I am a wife, a mother, a daughter, a sister, a friend,a reader, a writer, and a self proclaimed comedian. (Just not always in that order.)
I have loved reading ever since I was a little girl, in fact one of the first series I remember falling in love with was the Sweet Valley High series by Francine Pascal. Those books started my obsession with series/related books.
Writing has always been a passion of mine and I feel blessed to have the opportunity to put on paper the stories I've dreamed up in my head.
I can't wait for you to meet my "friends" in the Charistown series as well as in my other books. I have fallen in love with each and everyone of them and I think you will too.
Some fun facts about me....If I could only have one food for the rest of my life - it would be french fries! I love them! I also love Godiva Raspberry Truffles. Ok, enough about me.
I have to be honest, had I not committed to read this book for the blog, I wouldn’t have read it. Thursday Nights was such a disaster for me that I had no desire to continue on with this series. Well I am here to say, Storm Front far exceeded my expectations!
There was a lot that I loved about this book, and here are a few things:
1. I am partial to rock star heroes and “second chance at love” stories and Storm Front gave me both! Storm Front features a couple that has a significant history (and the author gives us a glimpse of this history)! Ryan and Ashley met when they were kids. Leo, Ashley’s older brother, and Ryan were best friends and members of the same band. This book opens and allows the reader to understand the initial spark, the taboo feelings that Ryan has about being interested in his best friends younger sister, and the love between Ryan and Ashley that would not be denied. By the time this book finally made its way to present day, I was invested in this couple and desperately wanted them to find their way back to one another. 2. The book is jam pack filled with emotion! With Thursday Nights, I felt detached emotionally, but with this book, I felt connected to the story as well as the characters. 3. Storm Front had the right balance of angst, humor, sweetness, and spice. 4. Secondary characters were a part of this book, but thankfully didn’t detract attention away from Ashley and Ryan’s story.
I didn’t give this book 5 stars because, although WAY better than Thursday Nights, I still struggled with the sex scenes and language in this book. It helped that I believed in this couple and the love they had for one another, but the sexual language was at times raunchy.
Despite this minor quibble, I can wholeheartedly recommend this book. I cared about these characters, and I will not soon forget the devotion and all-consuming love that Ryan had for Ashley. He was so incredibly attractive (in every way) and could’ve had any number of women, but he knew there was only ONE woman for him…and I loved that.
Storm Front is a very satisfying book that will tug on the heartstrings, set butterflies loose in the stomach, and will engage the reader from the very first page. A great read and a gazillion times better than it’s predecessor.
A big thank you to Lisa N. Paul and Super Dandy Publishing for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I decided to take another trip to Danny's on Main ... and what a trip it was! This is book 2 in the Charistown Series. I for one loved Thursday Nights and Max and Janie. But you get a taste of everyone in book one and This is Ryan and Ashley's story. I do not cry ~~ period ~~~ Ever !! I've cried maybe 3 times out of the thousands upon thousands of books i have read. The beginning of this book tore me to shreds. I cried my eyes out. I dont want to give you any spoilers, but what I will say is Lisa N. Paul did a fabulous job with what she wanted to portray and i for one lived it as the characters lived it, in my head, in my heart, in the tears that leaked out of my eyes. Ryan and Ashley are childhood sweethearts, finding their love early in life. But tragedy strikes, not to mention just a lot of mishap that teenagers arent ready to deal with in the areal of love, and though they love each other, they are definitely not ready for the all consuming love that has fallen on them, and they part ways. I like how the author was able to bring us the beginning of this story. The past, and how it all started. Im not usually a fan of books where half the book takes place in the past, and im definitely not a fan of teens playing back and forth when it comes to sex, but Lisa has portrayed this so well and was able to tell us, her readers, how it all began, and she does this in a fabulous was so we dont get stuck in the past like what happens to me so many times with books written this way. A lot of times i get lost in the transition from past to present, and it cant hold my interest. This book can and does hold my interest. I love the little bit of Rock and Roll thrown in there. I love Rockers I love that we got to meet Leo and the other members of the band that Ryan was in before that fateful night ..... I love that Ryan takes the time to see to his own issues and heartache and then goes and finds Ashley and trys to show her that she is the only one for him. Of course you get some angst, and of course Ashley is fighting it every step of the way, and she continues to run during most of the book, with a few sides orders of some steamy and sometimes angry sex. Ashley annoyed me a little with her running and not letting go of the past, but it fit right in the story and worked very well. Im not a major fan of the females in most books so this isnt really a surprise for me to not be fond of a female. I just have no patience for runners.... As the story comes to a close and Ashley finds herself, i do end up liking her she is just a tough nut to crack for me in the beginning. This doesnt take away from the story for me though. It adds to the story for me. Im supposed to be annoyed by her and i love that i am. Reading is an interpretation in ones own mind and my mind tells me this is how its supposed to be and for me that works and these characters totally work. The side characters in this book, which are pretty much the same as book one, as this is a group of friends and each book is telling the story of each couple, ... the side characters are fabulous. I adore them. This book is so well written and the story is so heart wrenching as well and heartfelt and will make you cry, yell, laugh and sigh. I really wish i could discuss Leo. he's amazing. I love him so much but i cant say too much because that would be telling and you are going to need to read it to find out what i mean There are a few minor errors in sentencing, but nothing major and it didnt take away from the read at all. I highly recommend this book. though it can be read as a stand alone, i highly recommend you read it as a series and start with Book 1 ~ Thursday Nights, as that is where you will get the most out of the story Im am so honored to have had the opportunity to read this book as well as the first, and to have gotten the chance to chat with the author and talk about characters and situations and who we love the most. I cant wait for more ..
As much as I'm dying to give this book 5 stars, I just can't. It hinders on one thing. Ryan has no respect for Ashley. Anyone who respected someone would never parade girls around in her house. Yes I know she pushed him away, and yes I know he was hurt. The fact remained that it was a pussy move. She owned the house. It wasn't even an apartment. I could over look the fact that he slept with other people while being in love with her (which is a HUGE pet peeve of mine, I DNF books for less), however the fact that he did it in her own home was a dumbass move and I couldn't get over it.
The rest of the book, I loved. I loved when they were together, I loved the crew, and I loved their sex scenes.
If not for that period of time that he was a douche, I would be 5 starring this and shouting from the roof how much I loved it.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This is a must read series, with Thursday Nights being the first book. However you can read this one as a stand alone. There are some repeats in this book, but they go along with the story.
I laughed, cried and got angry while reading this book. It is about first loves and losses and trying to find your way back and the importance of good friends.
Take a chance on this author, I doubt you will be sorry you did.
Storm Front, the second novel in Lisa N. Paul’s Charistown Series, is a thoroughly satisfying read from start to finish and one of my favorite novels in 2014. I’ve been in somewhat of a book rut lately, reading a lot of really good books, but nothing phenomenal enough to leave me with a book hangover. It doesn’t happen often, but sometimes you come across a novel that fits your mood perfectly. A novel whose story seeps into your soul, makes an impression on your heart, and leaves you in a state of bliss. For me, Storm Front is that novel.
The story line follows Ryan and Ashley, childhood friends whose relationship blossomed into love only to be destroyed in the wake of a hurricane. Years later, they find themselves thrown together again and must sort through the wreckage of the past to determine if they can salvage a future together. Written in both the past and present, the past chapters build the foundation of Ashley and Ryan’s connection and characters, while the present unveils how much has changed over time. The plot unfolds as past catches up to present, culminating in read that is captivating from cover to cover.
Ashley’s tragic adolescent past has broken her. As an adult she’s a fiery vixen who isn’t afraid to speak her mind. This is a stark contrast against the straight-laced teenager she once was. I loved her character’s depth. The guilt, anger, shame, passion, selflessness, and love – it’s both heartbreaking and encouraging. Ashley struggles against the weight of her past and adapts as best she can, but eventually she must face her demons.
Like Ashley, Ryan struggles with the burden of past choices. I loved his character for his resolve and determination. Not to mention his undeniable sex appeal and general hotness. Unlike Ashley, he has faced his demons and sought out closure to his past. It was interesting to see how their characters, despite sharing a tragic past, contrasted one another.
Lisa N. Paul has woven this sensational story of past and present that is addictive from the very first page to the very last line. The meticulous attention to detail, heart shattering plot twists, and heart warming redemption – you can tell this author has genuinely dedicated herself to perfecting her sophomore novel and crafting it into something all readers can truly appreciate. The beginning left me absolutely wrecked and sobbing. The middle patched me up momentarily until the end when I found myself crying again as I came to a scene later in the book that so perfectly captured the essence of the characters and story I couldn’t help but be in awe and read it several times with tears running down my face. I embraced every peak and valley of the story and found myself closing out the novel with a full heart and a smile on my face. This story is divine.
Storm Front is a roller coaster, but one that is definitely worth the ride.
I am thrilled to have had the opportunity to read Storm Front prior to release! I am a huge fan of Thursday Nights and love Lisa Paul's writing, so I was very excited to return to the Charistown series. This time we'd be focusing on Ryan and Ashley, and I was so curious about them. Wow, what a truly amazing story theirs is! Storm Front takes place around the same time frame as Thursday Nights, however we spend a good deal of time in the past, learning all about the origins of their relationship. I have such a better understanding of both Ryan and Ashley as characters, of why they act they way they do and how they've come to be where they are in life. I could never have imagined all that Ashley has gone through, nor could I have realized how Ryan fit into her life back then.
I really don't want to say too much about the plot, as I feel like you need to just jump in and read it for yourself. It's an incredibly emotional ride, I will say that. Get ready for tears, both happy and sad, as well as some anger and frustration. There may have been a point or two where I slightly wanted to kill Lisa Paul or at least throw my Kindle at her! But I love her so I refrained from violence and just kept on reading, and let me tell you she does not let her readers down. Lisa's writing is perfect. She knows just the right moment when to inject a little humor into a situation and there were many times throughout the story that I did actually laugh out loud. I think her writing greatly improved from her first book, although I loved it then too. And of course, the other characters from Thursday Nights are in here as well, and I still love them all.
And of course, a Lisa Paul novel comes with PLENTY of HOT STEAMY HOT SEX! Did I mention HOT? Lisa writes these scenes so perfectly you will definitely need a cold shower when you're through with them. (Thank you Lisa for those!) What I really liked is that she didn't overdo them. They are there when they fit best into the story, not just thrown into the plot as sex scenes for the sake of having them. This is something that I tend to pick up on and in Storm Front they are balanced perfectly within the storyline. And like I said they are yummy!
Storm Front did take a turn that made me cry hard but it is something that the Charistown characters can overcome and get past in due time, so I was okay with that. And then, of course there is an awesome HEA which I LOVED. I am so excited to read the next book in the Charistown series! I highly recommend Storm Front but I do recommend first reading Thursday Nights if you haven't already. It will give you better insight into all the characters and their relationships with one another. Thank you Lisa N. Paul for this truly wonderful journey into Charistown.
Storm Front, is the second novel in Lisa N. Paul’s Charistown Series. I read Thursday Nights a while ago, and I have to say, I enjoyed Storm Front’s plot synopsis even more than the first book. This book left me feeling so darn happy. With all of the sadness that happened in the story, and as angst filled as it was- I was so grateful for how it turned out.
The story is about Ryan and Ashley, childhood friends whose connection was first as friends, but then blossomed into love and then jealousy- and finally ended during a massive hurricane that tears both of their worlds apart.
Three years after tragedy strikes and Ashley left town- Ryan finally finds her in Charistown, Pennsylvania. And he is still so much in love with her, even though she has changed from sweet virginal Ashley, to rock chick personified, Ash! It flips from the past, and then covers a span of seven years after. The plot unfolds slowly, showing love and heartbreak in the past, then angst- SO MUCH ANGST, a couple years in the future.
Ashley’s tragic past has broken her. The only way to describe her as an adult, is Spicy, and that is her nickname when she starts her new job at Danny’s on Main. She carries so much guilt, anger, and shame for things that happened long ago. It is so heartbreaking to watch her go from a blooming flower, to shrinking inside herself. She struggles against her past and acclimates as best she can. But seeing Ryan is going to have her eventually face her demons. Granted- I feel like Ryan makes her better- but she just can’t get over what he did to her in the past.
Ryan struggles with the burden of past choices. I loved his character! Not only is he hot, but he is guarded. He keeps emotions pent up inside. It’s something that happened when his mother died.. Unlike Ashley, he faced his demons and took steps to find closure. Despite both of their unfortunate pasts, they seemed to belong to one another.
Lisa N. Paul has woven a beautiful story; of past and present. She puts forth such attention to detail and it seems so effortlessly done. Her crazy plot twists that had me guessing, and second guessing myself. And finally just a great heart felt story! I can appreciate how well written it was, how much growth there has been in her characters since the first book. The story of her past, was just so sad- its almost like- how could she come back from there? The middle was better, although I was still terribly upset but I got over it because in the end it was happy.
I can’t wait for the next book in this charming series. You will want it with such a feeling of anticipation-it will wreck you!
I was honored to get a advance copy of this book by Lisa! All I can say is.... I loved loved loved it! I was a huge fan of Thursday Nights. I really loved all the characters and I was intrigued to know more. As you know, Thursday Nights was Max and Janie's book, but we got a glimpse in the lives of their friends. I will admit... I'm dying to read Lyla and Gage's story. There is something about them that pulls at me. So I wasn't sure how Ryan and Ashley's story was gonna grasp me. When we saw them in Thursday Nights, I saw Ryan as a womanizer and maybe a few other mean words. Ashley seemed like this crazy rocker chick and we didn't know much about their back story.
Let me tell you now... I was so wrong. Their story is so heartbreaking but also filled with love. It takes place around the time the first book does and we see it from another side. Let me tell you... this book lets me see what the other didn't. I finally get to see the real Ryan and Ashley before they threw their masks on. There was a lot of thought put into this story. One thing I will say is... I didn't know I was craving this story until I read it. Thursday Nights was awesome but this book was even better. Lisa was a great author before but I feel this book shows her transformation into an amazing author! Way to tell a story! If you were a fan of Thursday Nights... then you will not be disappointed. This series just keeps getting better and better.
Ashley well, she knows how to do things to a man, "Jesus Christ," Ryan muttered as Ashley sauntered in her red bikini. The combination of her golden, sun-kissed skin and toned body had Ryan's di** so hard that it could have been used as a diving board." Years away from someone can well show you how much they can change, and I must say Ryan liked the changes Ashley has made, "I'm sorry, Princess, it's just every time you swear, well...it kind of turns me on." She narrowed her eyes at his statement and then watched as he chuckled in response. "I'm not kidding, it's hot." He doesn't like other men touching what's his, "Ryan's vision went red and fists clenched. The thought of Kyle even attempting to lay a hand on his woman had him wanting to rip Kyle's arms off and beat him with them." He knows he's good looking and he can't help but tease Ashley, "he watched out of the corner of his eyes as she pulled her bottom lip into her teeth, her gaze firmly on his a**. "Staring again, Princess?" He taunted." Ryan is really a caveman in disguise, "keep it up, Princess," he whispered huskily in her ear, "because I have no problem with lifting you over my shoulder nad leaving right now. I'll eff you in the car, in the snow, hell, in the goddamn street - anywhere just to see if you're still giggling when my co** is plunging in and out of your sweet cu**."
I LOVED "Storm Front" so if you're wondering whether to read it or not, I'm here to tell you stop wasting time and just READ IT! You can thank me later. :)
I was going to write a full review but the more I think about it the more I realize I don't need to as "Storm Front" is just as good as "Thursday Nights." This time it's Ryan and Ashley's story and it's definitely worth the read as it's a hot one. It's got all the passion, the romance, and best of all, all the members of the "family" that we loved in the first novel are back because, let's face it, it wouldn't be the same without them. And like the first, Ryan and Ashley burn up the sheets big time. If you haven't read Lisa N. Paul's "Charistown" novels, you're truly missing out on some beautiful and sexy reads. My only complaint - not enough of sexy Gage. I honestly cannot wait to read his story. Hopefully I don't combust when I do.
I have been looking forward to this book for so long, so I was really excited when it finally arrived on my kindle.
I loved the story of Ryan and Ashley and the author managed to evoke many different emotions from me while reading this book. I smiled, laughed, cried, even got nervous butterflies in my tummy, was angry and then finally finished with a big ol grin that I could not get rid of. You know you have read a good book, when you can say you felt so many different things.
I cannot say enough about how much I loved this story and I look forward to more awesome books.....As it was said in the book - they all have enough shit going on in their lives that they don't just need a book, they need a series....love it!!!
Throughout Thursday Nights, I knew there was something special between Ashley and Ryan. I thought I had it all figured out, but I was SO very wrong!
I love that this book doesn't start right where Thursday Nights left off. In order to appreciate what was going to happen, you have to know what happened in the past. Lisa did an amazing job of drawing me into the story of 17 year old Ashley and 19 year old Ryan. This is truly a feat because I find it difficult to get into stories about characters so young.
My favorite thing about the series remains the fact that I feel like I'm reading about a community, not just characters who have been mentioned in other books. Not only that, but I want to BE a part of the Danny's on Main family!
Such a heart wrenching but beautiful love story! Bring your tissues!! I loved Thursday Nights (book 1 in Charistown series) by Lisa N. Paul but book 2 Storm Front…. WOW! It tore my heart out, stomped on it and then ever so slowly started putting in back together until it was finally whole and beating strong again. OMG! What a journey! I will admit tears were streaming down my face at times, but I couldn't stop reading. I absolutely love her writing and how so invested I get in her characters!! A MUST READ series!!! -Heather
I totally totally luvd this book it was amazin the story characters everything was great I luv ashley it was so sad in some part I felt so sorry 4 her she had been through so much an Ryan OMG he is just gorgeous I luv him an he wanted 2 b with Ashley so much but there was so much in there way stoppin them gettin 2gether this series is brilliant can't wait 4 more xxx
I loved going thru the backstory of this couple. Could have been a 5 star read but Ashley got on my nerves and the resolution was kinda drug out too much. I mean 5 years come on!
I feel like it was forever before I was able to hang with the gang again at Danny’s on Main. That’s the popular hangout of a crazy group of friends. I first met them in Thursday Nights and it was story about Janie and the incredibly sexy, smoking hot Max. During my time with these two, I met Ryan and Ashley, The author left little teases throughout the book about these two so by the end of Thursday Nights you were itching for more of Ryan and Ashley and the crew.
All of our questions are answered in this story of Ryan and Ashley, the story takes us back in time to Ashley as a young girl and Ryan as a young boy. You will see Ashley as a different person than we know her now. Ryan on the other hand, to me, was the same now as he was then, with a few differences. Ryan is so sweet and loving and his love and devotion for her never wavered. Their story is one of beauty and heart break and moves through time to take us into the present.
I loved the concept of the story and how the author takes us on a journey of how life’s obstacles can change who we are, how people use different coping mechanisms to survive tragedy and heart break. The events of our childhood can shape who we become as adults, it can be good or bad. I took quite a few messages from that part of the story. Until we communicate with our loved ones and expunge our demons from ourselves, only then can we truly find who we are. Our pasts do not have to define us. Wearing a mask to hide who you are only hurts you and the people you love, even though you think you are protecting them. One of my favorite scenes in the book is when Lyla and Janie force Ashley’s mask off. It is an emotional but fun scene too. It also involves vodka and tequila at 10 a.m.
You might ask me which book I liked better, Thursday Nights or Storm Front; I can’t say I like one better than the other I loved them both so much. Storm Front takes us on a more emotional journey. It is still really hot and Ryan’s dirty mouth will leave you hot and bothered. He really likes using his mouth by the way. Thursday nights was a little funnier in comparison but the humor would be lost in the Storm Front storyline. There are still funny scenes with the gang and you get nuances of the previous story because some of the story parallels the first. The rest of the gang is there, Lyla is still the elusive mystery but again some teases are in there to have us squirming for her story. Kyle’s is the one that gets a bit more focus in this story because he is next, and I think it is going to be an intense book.
I felt the connection between Ryan and Ashley during the entire book, I was frustrated at times and wanted to throw a brick at her head to make her wake up and see what was right in front of her. I grew to love Ryan even more throughout; he is not like any man you will ever meet.
I am very impressed how the author weaves all of these stories together, like puzzle pieces fitting together but instead of one picture it makes multiple. The story has great dialog and flows effortlessly, I never felt like anything was missing. I was also almost satisfied with the ending and that is only because it ended and I wanted to spend more time with them. I know you will love this book, Thursday Nights was on my list for top 2013 favorite reads and Lisa Paul had another winner with Storm Front!! I hope to see you all soon at Danny’s on Main.
This type of series is my favorite, they are stand alone stories but I recommend you read them in order. My favorite type of read is an ensemble cast of characters because with each new book you always get to revisit the characters from the previous story and see how they are doing. I love how the book has a cliffhanger is a tease for the next story.
I am so excited about this book! My favorite friends from Charistown are reunited, but this time it is Ryan and Ashley’s story that we find ourselves in the middle of, I cannot get enough of these characters. Any of them. They are all flawed and none of them have bring glowing pasts, but they have all managed to find each other in Danny’s, the neighborhood bar. This one bar has proved to provide the best of friends and the biggest family of all.
Ashley moved to Charistown to escape from her life. She lost everything that was right in her life all in one day. But one thing that never left her when she left Florida was the love she had for Ryan. But that was one of the issues and one of the reasons she had to leave. She couldn’t stay where she was and be haunted by the loss of her brother and the loss of her one true love, which also happened to be her brother’s best friend. She need to escape, to go where she could start her own life on her own terms.
Ryan and Ashley parted ways on very depressing terms but no matter where she goes, she will always hold the top spot in his heart. But when push came to shove, he helped to shove her right into another life. That was never his intention, but here we are several years later in this small town. Ryan had finally found his one true love. This time though, he swore he was never going to let her go. She may have left once, but he wasn’t going to watch it happen again. He has put his life together and struggled through each and every day of it and now he wants one thing. Their happily ever after.
This book was a very emotional book for me to read. I found myself crying, laughing, cringing and just wondering what next. These two people care so much for each other, but seem to stop at nothing to avoid being together. This book really weighed heavy on my heart. It was sweet, romantic, tragic and happy all at once and there were a couple of times I was afraid to turn the page to see what else could possibly happen.
But you don’t just close books like this. They leave you with something deep inside. This book just melted my heart. Yes, it was hot. Yes, it was full of steam… but more than all of that it was filled with love. The love of a brother, the love of a sister, the love of the family they have given themselves inside of Danny’s and the love of one another. I just want more and more of these friends and after we left Max and Janie I was saddened because I felt like I was leaving friends behind in the pages of Thursday Nights. But here we are at the end of Storm Front and I just want more.
This was just such an amazing combination of characters and fates that I couldn’t get enough. I want more of these friends and their stories. Beautifully written and full of raw emotional pull and steam, Lisa N. Paul does an amazing job with Storm Front. A fabulous 5-star read!
*I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*
I actually ended up reading this one twice. Why, you ask? Well, because when I was offered the chance to read this one, I hadn’t read Thursday Nights yet. I went back and read that, to go back and re-read Storm Front. I must say, I got a much better understanding of it after reading book #1! To be completely honest, I have been in such a book depression lately (hence the lack of review post) & this book got me out of it!
Ashley & Ryan were childhood friends (LOVE these stories!). Just when they decided to test the waters and decide to see exactly what was between them, tragedy happens.. & we all know much too well how tragedy can tear two people apart. I completely LOVE how this is written in two different tenses. I love books that give us all the insight of the future, as well as a look into the past also. It literally drew me in and kept me captive from beginning to end!
Ashley, like most of us, has a troubled past. I love that she grew into her own and is a woman who isn’t afraid to go after what she wants and doesn’t hesitate to speak her mind. She has such a fire about her that I was instantly drawn to her character and actually related to her more than I thought I would. She had such emotion. Not just randomly here and there, but she OWNED her emotions. Every single one of them – from anger to passion to outright brutal honesty. She’s trying her hardest to overcome her past and face her future head-on – all while still finding herself and adapting.
Ryan.. Sweet baby Jesus Ryan. Lisa N. Paul wrote one amazing character when she wrote Ryan. Sex appeal out the yang just added to my attraction to him. I love how driven he is, that his determination is the main driving force of who he is as a man. Having faced his past and let go of all demons he held on to – he has turned into one amazing person. I think it’s such an act of fate that the two of them were thrown together once again. I don’t think she noticed it at first, or at all, but she needed him more than she ever though she would.
This was such a compelling story. The story line was flawless and flowed with what seemed like no effort at all. Storm Front is a romantic, firey, grab your heartstrings and take you for a ride kind of read. It was written with such detailed conviction that you couldn’t help but open your mind and let the characters run free. It was so vivid in my mind, just from reading the words, that I felt like there was a miniature movie playing in my head. Those are my favorite kind of books to read. You know, the ones where you can picture everything so clearly!
I would recommend this book to anyone who takes a chance on romances. It’s such a beautiful story that I think it should be given a chance by everyone.
Years ago Ryan and Ashley were best friends and first loves. Ashley's brother Leo was their other best friend. They were young and in love thinking nothing could tear them apart. Jealousy comes between them and stars the rift and a hurricane finishes their friendships off. Years later Ryan tracks Ashley down and tries to convince her for another chance. The Ashley he knew isn't the woman standing in front of him now. She is different but still the love of his life. They become friends again even when both want more the past is still keeping them apart. It will take Danny's on Main, friends and maybe another storm to show them they belong together.
Ashley starts off as the sweet girl everyone wants to protect and keep safe. She is a very caring person who will do anything for her brother and Ryan. Her brother has been all she has had her whole life and Ryan has been in her heart since she met him. As a woman she is independent who keeps things hid from others. She never wants to have her heart broke and she is far from the innocent girl years ago. Ryan is in a band and loves a few things in his life. He loves his dad, Leo and Ashley. He is a moody guy and has a lot of anger issues. He will do anything to show Ashley he loves her and wants only her. He can be a jerk at times but he is also one of the sweetest most caring guys there is. As a man Ryan is still much the same. He isn't as angry but he still cares deeply for Ashley. He does some stupid stuff trying to get her attention but no matter what he is there for her.
First thing I did when I finished this book was immediately add the first to my to buy list. I fell so much in love with these characters and the book. I didn't want this book to end. I read it in one sitting ignoring all those around me till I finished it. Both Ashley and Ryan crawl into your heart and don't leave. They go through so much together and apart. Ashley I will say I did get aggravated with and thought if you don't want Ryan I will take him. She has had a hard time and has to learn to let go and forgive. You see from the start how much they love each other and how much chemistry they have between them. I like Ashley when she was an innocent but when she grows up she is someone you would want to have as your friend. There is love for sure in this book. There is also quite a few tears, Not many books can make me cry but this one ad the power to do so. There is also the love of family. It may not be the family you are born into but the ones you create that are the best type and this book shows that. I recommend this to everyone as it is so wonderful. It is a must read.
Well where do I begin. Let me start by saying that Lisa Spivak-Paul is a truly amazing author. I feel so special to be one of those that got to read this early. I have been waiting what seem like forever for this book. I fell in love with this crew in Thursday Nights and I have missed them so much. When I started this book I was so nervous and anxious to dive back into there lives. I seriously felt like I was going to see family I haven't seen in for ever. Heart racing, & butterflies in my stomach is how I felt the entire time I read this book.
This book will take you on a complete journey of love, loss, tragedy , heartache, self destruction, acceptance and healing. I can promise you will need tissues there will be tears of pain and tears of happiness.
We get to see in to the past of Ashley and Ryan where they started. There connection from early on was just amazing. As we follow them on there path to forever. Heartache and tragedy strike (this is where you will need the tissues) well it's going to completely derail there journey. Just for awhile though. I feel they need this time apart to establish who they are with out the other. Ashely is on complete denial mode throughout most of this book. She's so lost and consumed by loss and failure she feels she doesn't deserve happiness. She been losing herself for so long. Ryan is for me the the definition of almost perfection. He screws up early on in there relationship. Which led to heartache which then led to loss. He spends the there time apart working on him fixing what he can. He wants to love her the way she deserves. Yea well there journey isn't all hearts and flowers. They are both stubborn as all get out. They spend years fighting for what is destined to be. What started there broken journey to happily ever after is what will heal there hearts and mends there should together.
I can say that this book is just as hot as Thursday Nights. The chemistry between Ashely and Ryan is crazy intense you can feel it radiate through the pages. There will be times when you want to choke and slap them both so there will wake up and see each other. Just keep going knowing that Lisa lives us all and wants us to be happy.
Oh Holy angst-fest. This book was painful and heartbreaking and un-put-downable! We first met Ashley and Ryan in book one, Thursday Nights. They live together, are very close, but aren't a couple. Their friends are trying to figure out the dynamics to their relationship, but to no avail.
Rewind seven or so years, and we learn that they pretty much grew up together. Ryan was Ashley's brother, Leo's, best friend, and hers. Leo and Ryan were part of a band called Storm Front. Ashley and Ryan wrote lyrics together and sparks were flying. With Leo's approval, and subsequent pain of death threat should Ryan hurt Ashley, the two get together and are very much in love. Then, as it does in many storylines, tragedy strikes. It devastates Ryan and Ashley beyond repair.
The book then takes you ahead three years to see a reunion (of sorts) that lays the ground work for events we know took place from book one. And then ahead four years and we are in the same timeline as the first book. Very neatly skirting the relative corresponding events.
I love when a book can evoke that chest gripping pain you get when you hurt for the people you're reading about. Not because I like the pain so much as I know I'm reading a great book. Well-written and perfectly mated to the first book I can't wait to see what happens next with Kyle (Breaking to Breathe), although I REALLY want Gage's story too. Him and Lyla from book one...Phew! Bring it on Mrs. Paul - Bring it on! (please :-D)
4.5 stars Oh Ryan and Ashley! I loved them in Thursday Nights and wanted to know their story. Well, I got what I wished for but it about broke my heart!
This is an epic story of love. They meet when she is 15, he is 17. Both fall but it takes two more years for them to admit it to each other. Oh and he is her brother Leo’s best friend. Awkward.
Leo- wow. Just amazing.
Once Ryan and Ashley get together the sparks fly! The passion was astounding. Their banter is hilarious and their friendship beautiful. Watching them find their way to each only to be torn apart was difficult. But things are said or left unsaid and a tragedy breaks them both. And made me SOB!
Fast forward three years. Ash has left Miami. Ryan walks into the bar where she works and to say she is shocked is putting it mildly. She is no longer the Ash he knew- well she is but she isn’t. But that is not a bad thing. Ryan has also changed. What hasn’t changed is their deep bond- even though she fights it. As well as their out of this world attraction.
Four more years pass. They are still friends but both want more, but don’t feel like they deserve it. This is where the dual POV confused me. Because it changes paragraph to paragraph it was sometimes difficult to follow the line of thinking.
The family they have both created in Charistown is a strong one. And is there for both of them when they are hurt or confused or just plain dumb- as when Max and Kyle give Ryan advice-REALLY? It was funny but came back to bite Ryan in the ass.
Once both of them were honest- about their love, fears and guilt- you started to see the way they were. Devoted and in love. But both being so stubborn there are still obstacles- which they have to work through if they are to have their fairytale HEA- or at least their version.
I loved this book, and can’t wait for the next book in the series.
First of all I wanted to say Thank You to The Author Lisa. N Paul for allowing me to read the ARCH before the book was released. I actually won the ARCH by default. Lucky Me!! I have read and loved the first book of the Charistown Series Thursday Nights. I just couldn't wait for the second book Storm Front to be released. Let me start by saying the story has only gotten better. I will not give any spoilers so I have to be very careful in this review. Believe Me when I say I want to shout it to the Moon so that you will Love it as much as I do. Ryan and Ashley have such a history. They are both crippled emotionally. You want to fix them You want to tell them to open their eyes. Oh the Angst !!!! You feel your heart and theirs cracking into a 100 pieces. It is a story of love, loss, grow up and learning to move forward instead if looking back. All of the Characters are here Janie, Lyla,Max, Julia, Danny, Kyle and through out the story little pieces of there scars scratch the surface giving you just enough to make you want more. Last but not least did I tell you the sex in the story was so blistering hot that I had to set the iPad down and shake my head a few times to clear the thoughts from my mind. When I say Hot ! I mean the Best kind of Hot. Tender, Heart in a Vise, Lust Driven Love not just Sex. The kind that you bare your soul to the other person. Lisa N Paul has made us wait for the second story but my goodness it was worth it. She totally did this story Justice. You can tell she poured her heart and soul in to it. Lisa made you feel that you are part of the Danny's on Main Family. I can't wait for Book 3. I will be more than honored to ARC for her any day.
What can I say about Storm Front, OMG it blew me away.
I loved Thursday Nights and was so happy that Lisa N. Paul decided to write more about this group of friends who met at a bar, their interlinking lives and dramas was so well written, the pain, laughter and love these friends feel for each other is like no other.
Ashley and Ryan in this book have gone through so much in their lives, to finally connect with each other again after 3 years apart was very turbulent but so emotional.
I don't mind admitting that I ugly cried in this book for over 3 chapters in this book, and no book recently has affected me so much to cry so long as this book. The pain Ry and Ash go through is so real and heartbreaking well written that I cannot imagine anyone would not cry at this. The emotions in this whole story is beyond words
The Darker the Storm, The Deeper the Pain… Love knows no bounds when two people are destined to be together. One fights to maintain the distance; while the other battles to close the gap. The Brighter the Light at the End…
this phrase to me was one of the most powerful written, the depth of the feelings in these words goes to show you how much feeling went into the book.
Lisa has written another great book full of connection, love, pain, laughter and real feelings and I loved every bit of it.
I can't wait to read about Kyle, that one I think will make me ugly cry again.
Ashley has all she really needed, her brother Leo and the one person who stole her heart at the age of 15, Ryan. Ryan and Leo are best friends you could say they are so close they feel like brothers. They have been friend early on in age and both loved music so the started a band named Storm Front. Ashley and Leo's parents are absentee parents they provide their needs and wants but not love. RYAN can't hide his feeling for Ash any longer he talks with Leo he is fine as long as he doesn't hurt Ash. Things were going good till trust is tested and a tragedy tears Ryan and Ashley apart. Ashley feels so alone and when she makes 18 she leaves everything behind even the one person that owns her heart . Years pass and Ryan is ready to get back what he lets go all those years ago but will Ashley open her arms and Heart for Ryan can they both get pass the shame and guilt they both have piled on their shoulders. This is a heartfelt story of friendships, LOVE and loss and feeling lost. I recommend this STORY.
I had been waiting for Storm Front since I had finished Thursday Nights, and was lucky to receive an ARC front the author on FB. I read Thursday Nights and was intrigued to find out their individual stories.
We were introduced to Ashley and Ryan and was excited to see more of them and their background. We see how they met, their heartbreaking past and how they ended up working at Danny's On Main. We got to the know them be through their heartbreak, loss, how their characters grew, and their love.
I did have tear jerking moments, but the story is beautiful. Danny's on Main family is awesome. They care and love each other unconditionally, which makes The Charistown Series great and well put together.
I love how we get glimpses about each character and their story to be told. Can't wait for the next books in the series and what Lisa writes next! Definitely an author I will be looking forward to reading in the future.
Being back in Charistown over the holiday was fabulous. Lisa N Paul's cast of characters are fleshed out so flawlessly you feel as if you are with family, which you are. Danny's On Main is one bar I wish I could frequent. This book goes on to tell us Ryan and Ashley's story. Everyone at Danny's On Main certainly has their own stortry to tell, and Ryan and Ashley are no exception. This is an absolutely beautifully written story full of compassion, love and lust. Yes, I said lust. Weaving throughout their story, once you can see through your tears are so many hot, sexy, steamy, again beautifully written, sex scenes that it is difficult to put this book down. So don't ,read and read and read until you cannot read any longer, rest your eye, and pick the book back up to finish !
This book is a MUST read and I cannot wait for the next book in this captivating series !!
I loved Thursday Nights but I experienced a whole new level of love for these characters in Storm Front. This book can be read as a standalone but I think Thursday Nights acts as an amazing foundation to Ashley and Ryan's story.
In Thursday Nights I was so curious about them. I wanted to know why they acted the way they did with each other? What had happened in their clearly shared past?
Storm Front does not disappoint. The answers to all of my questions are there and my heart broke at times reading it. I just need to say, Leo. You'll know what I mean once you read it. I'll just say it again, Leo.
Amazing story full of plenty of steam. Loved this book and can't wait for more from this talented author.
