Luna Werewolves #1

Captured with His Pregnant Mate

Rate this book
Roarke O’Neil is an alpha Luna Werewolf who has just been captured for wandering into a pack’s territory. This is nothing new, and he’s not afraid, until he catches the scent of his mate being held in a cage nearby. His mate who is pregnant by someone else.

Westley Moore has lost all hope of surviving after multiple escape attempts, and he feels he is dying along with the pup he is carrying, but then he catches the scent of something that is like breathing in strength itself, and he knows he’s found his mate in the oddest of places.

They must work together to escape the pack that wants them dead, made all the more difficult by Westley’s pregnancy and their constant need to mate. But there is no nearby pack for Luna Werewolves where they can run to for protection, so Roarke decides to make one of his own and stand his ground.

Definitely not your average shifter story, and that is aside from the male pregnancy, this first book of a new series set off the storyline for however many books will follow with a major bang. I have to admit I'm a real fan of male pregnancy - I think because it's just so far removed from our reality that there's no doubt we're talking fantasy. But this book adds another potential obstacle that made it a really interesting read: Westley, the omega wolf, is already pregnant with someone else's child when Roarke, the alpha luna wolf finds him. Most humans cannot even deal with that situation (see all the stories about evil stepmothers and stepfathers!), how the heck is a super-possessive alpha werewolf going to handle it? I loved this extra twist and couldn't wait to find out.

Westley has been captured and abused by a pack of cruel werewolves out to kill all luna wolves, and my heart went out to him. On top of being tortured he is pregnant and worried about his baby being as malnourished as he is. When Roarke unexpectedly saves him, he knows the man/wolf is his mate, but cannot imagine him accepting his baby as well. I cannot blame Westley for doubting Roarke, not after everything he's already been through.

Roarke, however, shows more maturity than most humans are capable of, and includes the unborn child in his love. Good for him! He fights for Westley and their unborn child and remains determined to make their own pack. Several twists, turns, and setbacks follow, but the one thing that remains is his determination to make a home for the both of them - as well as assorted other wolves they pick up on the way.

If you like paranormal stories that challenge your ability to suspend disbelief, if you enjoy reading about mates who are truly meant for each other, and if you're looking for a read with lots, and lots, and lots of hot shifter-on-shifter action, then you will probably like this novella.

I've read two entire series by Marcy Jacks already: The Pregnant Mate Series and I Want to Bite on Your Ears and I liked both of them (Especially the latter mini-series which was something new and refreshing to me as the subject of defects in wolf shifter world is not a common ABO books topic.)

Both series have the common, typical wolf shifter trope: a big bad Alpha wolf saving/finding his abused/enslaved/generally scr*wed Omega mate. And I liked those books, I read them when I needed something sexy, growl-y, not very complicated that worked well as a stress-reliever. And all those 15-or-so books were sweet and pleasant (although predictable) and they didn't bore me at all.

That's why I've reached for Captured with His Pregnant Mate which is Book 1 of Luna Werewolves series by Marcy. And... what a disappointment! :(
It's true that the first 2 series I've mentioned were not plot-heavy but at least they were nice to read. Captured with His Pregnant Mate was nothing more than a PWP with a lot of sex, a not-very-clever Alpha, captured and recaptured pregnant Omega and the same kidnapping thing happening twice... nope..., thrice!
So, thank you very much, but NO! I will definitely NOT be reading any more parts of this series.

I enjoyed this beginning of a new series. I really enjoy werewolf stories and this is the first time I am reading one from this author.

This story has a different twist to the general stories about werewolves. In this story there are special wolves known as Luna wolves who are able to take a stronger and bigger form in comparison to other wolves. As a result they are hated and feared by some wolves and used for hunting.

This is how Roarke meets Westley, they have both been captured. They realise that they are mates and the story tells about their struggle to escape and survive, especially since Westly is pregnant with a pup from his former partner who was killed.

Altogether this is nice read which fits in between my usual longer, heavier reads. I enjoyed reading about the challenges that confront Westley and Roarke and how they overcome them. I also enjoyed the struggles to escape and to remain free, these provided a nice element of tension to the story and just the right amount. I skipped through the sex scenes. To be honest if you read a lot of m/m stories they become very 'same old, same old', but they don't detract from the story.

My only complaint is that Westley hadnt given birth to the pup by the end of the story. Of course I shall be buying the next one.

I enjoyed this and will definitely buy the next one. A great start to the series.

Besides the questionable beginning of having a mate already pregnant with another man's baby... I kinda liked this. I am willing to get more into the series before completely tossing it.

Really want to experience the labor (next book.. cameo maybe?) And have a nice setup on the next couple.. should be interesting with a half breed. Some parts of almost every sex scene are a bit awkward for me.. excessive use of the word asshole to me. That's not the only word in the dictionary.. and frankly it detracted from the sexiness of the scene for me.

This was a interesting story. The whole Male pregnancy thing wasn't really explained well and I did have some issues with keeping my head wrapped around a pregnant male mate although one question was answered (how was it coming out). Westley was an omega luna wolf who held captive in a cage pregnant when he meets his mate Roarke. This was a short story that was not short on the sex scenes. This was a good beginning to a new series for me I can't wait to see how the pack grows.

1.5 stars - This was my first time reading a book by this author, and I must say that I wasn't impressed. I have no issues with Mpreg books, in fact I enjoy them immensely when they're written well, so that wasn't a deterrent for me. It was really just the fact that the plot wasn't a solid one and the characters did nothing for me. There were so many questions left unanswered regarding the history of the werewolves in this story. The differences between them (lunar vs. regular) were also confusing and never really clarified (except for the omega Mpreg factor I guess). And I understand the whole 'you're my mate and I want to screw you constantly' angle very well, but while in some books they add to the story and fortify the love between the characters, I found it here to be nothing but an excuse to unload needless smut on the reader and was annoyed to no end by it. So yeah, not my cup of tea. I was interested in reading Jacks's 'The Vampire District' series at some point, but I'm not sure if I'll enjoy it if it follows the same pattern of this book. Guess time will only tell if I gather enough courage to take a chance on it.

Different mates with male pregnancy story. I enjoyed it overall. I thought the writing was well done with suspense and drama. I was disappointed by the characters and their lack of depth. I felt they could have been a little better information on their background and the background of the world. World building was near zil so it was a little hard to get into the world.

I did enjoy it and hope to read more of the series. On a sidenote I am beginning to wonder about the publisher. I hold nothing against the author since they do not set the price but it is high for a book of this length. I tend to enjoy Siren's books as "comfort" reads but they are getting a little to involved and pricy to keep up if Siren isn't going to conform more to the markets usual price for these reads. PLEASE remember this is not a reflection on the author or work but the publisher.

Captured With His Pregnant Mate
By Marcy Jacks

Rourke is captured while wandering in a wolves pack territory. The problem is he's a feared and hated Luna Wolf. When they take him back to camp he discovers an omega luna wolf they captured and caged is his fated mate. With a little help from an unknown friend in the pack Rourke might just get to rescue Westley and get them both to safety.

This was a good book though I did have issues at times with how careless Rourke was with their safety. (Mainly doing things anyone with half a brain on the run would never do.) I liked both Rourke and Westley. They were good together, but it needed more storyline and less sex. (Shocking for me to complain about that I know. LOL) The angst level is low.

I was going to rate this one a 3. But since I plan to read the next one I am thinking it's closer to 3.5.
I have a soft spot for shifter mating stories.
Some how the instant love in a mating story works for me.

I really hope the next story containers to give us bits and pieces from this one. I want to know what happens to these guys! It totally ended without the giving birth part! It's the Mpreg that drew me into this adding this story to my TBR in the first place.

I think I needed another 100 pages.

I started reading it despite the hideous title, and it surprised me with quite interesting plot. Obviously mpreg is a big part of it as luna wolf is a male only race. What I like about is that their building a pack together, fighting together, accepting each other. I would very much like to see the pack growing, the baby born, Jason mating. Looking forward to the next one!

Very pleasant book, easy and quick reading. Characters are simple and pure in a way. I like the intensity of alpha-omega bond here, no needles hard-gender-related issue. I felt relax reading it.
I love Westley character, as he was sincere, vulnerable and open, but Roarke was also cool!
I like MPREG, so it was something for my taste!
Definitely I add this author to my follow list. :)

Since this was the first in the series, I kind of wanted more of a background about the Luna wolves. Why did regular wolves hate them? Is it really only because of their luna form? Was there a war between Luna wolves and regular wolves in the past? How long have they been hunted?

Now comes the pregnancy part, is it only luna omegas that can become pregnant or can regular omega wolves? I wanted to know more about it since this was different than anything I've read--since in the past I've read that Omegas could only become pregnant by their mates.

I did like this story, but I wanted to know more of a background. If there are so many lone luna Alpha wolves out there then why didn't they form a pack before? Why risk being captured when they didn't have to be?

I liked how the energy aspect of it too. I liked how omegas could heal and give the Alpha their energy.

Overall, it was good, but I needed more info. I liked Roarke and Westley :) I will be continuing on with this series.

3.5 but not really sure.
I love the concept of male pregnancy. These are new kind of weres than the usual--stronger and they can share strength being near and definitely by having sex. So you can see where this will lead.

So I kinda want to read about the birth--hopefully the next novella will feature that. But I think the price of the novella is quite high for the length of the story. So on the fence I sit.

I was intrigued by this one due to the reviews. In general I stay away from Siren as a publisher because their stuff tends to just not work for me - but I make exceptions where appropriate. This is actually fairly interesting and engaging story of a different type of shifter. I thought the pack dynamics and where Luna wolves fit in gave it a viewpoint that I haven't seen much of before. The whole Mpreg thing wasn't really explained well - and I did have some issues with keeping my head wrapped around a pregnant male mate - but mostly in relation to all the sex. It's obviously a TBC. I'll read the next one.

I'm not usually a huge fan of shifter books but for some reason I've had a desire to read some this week. With a title like this one, I didn't know what I was in for but it was a pleasant surprise.

I enjoyed this story of an special type of werewolf breed, living in a world where they are hunted by 'standard' werewolf. The alpha male Luna Werewolf meets his already pregnant mate who is being held captive, when he himself is caught.

Sex helps the werewolves recover when they are injured or exhausted and with all running and fighting, this means the book has lots of sex. :)

It finishes on a lead in to the next book. I'm definitely tempted to check it out.

This was a little different, Luna werewolves who can change into an alternate form. There really wasn't much about the mpreg aspect of the book, kind of wondering if it will continue into the next book since it wasn't resolved in this book. Besides there being a lot of sex in this book, more sex than plot, it was a different take on shifters so slightly interesting. I will most likely read the next in the series to see if there is more plot related story and less sex to decide if I will continue.

I liked the unique aspect of westley being pregnant another werewolf. Roarke handled it well.. sometimes I felt a bit too well. Like he had no feeling of disappointment whatsoever which I thought was slightly unrealistic.
But this is a great start to a new unique series by Ms. Jacks :)

Shame, I would have totally bought this if the one MC was pregnant by his mate...not some other guy. I love mpregs!

I just don't know what to really think of this one. The writing was really awkward for me to read, some of the sentences seemed out of place or just not quite in context. I don't know. It just made for an odd flow to me. I think I have more unanswered questions now I've finished it.

Things I liked:

1. Roarke's acceptance of Westley's pregnancy.

2. The idea that Luna shifters were different from other wolf shifters.

Umm...that's all I can think of.

Things I didn't like so much:

1. The ending. Yeah, it's nice that Josh, a minor character, found his mate, but I was more interested in finding out how Westley was going to have the baby. Not that I wanted to read a gory birth scene (Roarke said he'd have to tear open his mate's stomach in order for the baby to be born), but I did want to see how the two would react to the birth and to the baby.

2. Why did they base their new pack in the same town as the other wolf pack that had tortured and held Westley captive for a year? Yeah, they killed off most of the alphas in that pack, but why stick around? I just didn't understand that. No matter how cheap the land was, there was no way I'd stay in an area where I was kidnapped and tortured and call it home.

3. Roarke being so vague and uneducated about his own kind. Because he didn't know important things, I didn't know important things, so I felt very I unsatisfied, as if it was a cop out by the author. I guess I felt a bit cheated out of things that I should have known or learned while the story progressed.

4. This seems silly, but I was annoyed toward the end about the descriptions of the house being built. I am not a builder, but I hope I know enough to know that there is a certain order you go through when building a house. You can't have the floors going down inside when you haven't finished framing the house. Ugh.

5. The writing style, as I said earlier, was not one I enjoy reading. It didn't read like a book, more like a proposal for a book, if that makes sense.

6. The characters had potential, but I was disappointed that they were not more developed. I didn't feel as if I got to know them very much, so I didn't feel very attached or sympathetic.

I'm not sure if I will continue the series or not. This is the first book by this author or this publishing house that I've read. I don't think this has completely turned me off of either, but it wasn't the best start for me.

I didn't dislike this book. Not the fact that Westley was already pregnant when he met his mate and not the fact that they had sex almost immediately.

What I didn't like was being dropped into the middle of a story and in fact the entirety felt that way. Westley's impriosonment felt like a minor plot point. Simply a necessity to get the story moving. I didn't feel sympathy for his plight or relief when he escaped. Who he was never materialized either. You know he was wandering, but you don't know why. Roarke was a cardboard cutout, very two dimensional. I felt he would be the best character to truly explain what a Luna werewolf was, but other than taking a second shifted form, you really don't know much about them.

Jason is briefly mentioned and then shows up with a new mate, and the two feel like unknown entities. Their entire story is unknown other than they met shortly after Jason and Roarke's brief assignation. Josh was the only character that felt truly rooted in the story. His obscurity within the pack and his reasons for helping both Westley and Roarke were believable in their explanations. In the end, there was more sex than plot and despite the explanation of them gaining strength through the contact, Westley was a malnourished, pregnant omega. A little more care and a safe place to recover would seem to be the most pressing concern and not endless rounds of sex.

It shows future promise however, and I'll at least give this series a second read.

I'm used to the quick insta-love/lets have sex nature of most shifter books but this one was in a class all its own. There was a little action, then some sex, a little more action, and then some sex, Oh hey! They made it to a motel! SEX, SEX, SEX, SEX, SEX. Seriously, I think I may be sexed out and I don't think that's ever happened to me before. Aside from the copious amounts of copulation, you do get a little bit of story, too.

There are two kinds of shifter in this book, regular shifters and Luna shifters. From what little information that's given in this book, regular shifters fear the Luna ones because the Luna Alpha's are so much stronger and there's the fear that they'll wipe everyone else out. This leads to the Luna wolves being hunted down for sport, basically. Also, there's the fact that the Luna Omegas can get pregnant but apparently can't give birth without the help of Luna Alpha.

I hate to say that that's all there is to this book but, well, aside from some fighting and lots of killing, that really is all there is. -.- This was an introductory book plain and simple. What little plot/story there is was interesting enough for me to want to read the next book in the hope that there will be more story development but anyone looking into this book should be aware there isn't much plot to go on in this volume. Short quick read, good for a bit of guilty mpreg pleasure.

I can't believe I'm reading this.

This is why I hate mpreg: other than that during sex he has to prep the ass and the other guy beats off, there is nothing that makes this stand out as being man on man. This is really heteronormative not to mention utterly ridiculous. Even with magic, what is the baby growing in? Did he develop a uterus that's attached to his ass? Ah, well that's good. At least he's not having the kid by shoving it out like a giant poop.

How are five people building a house big enough for six people and without electricity? How can they do it without power tools like saws and hammers? The Amish have entire villages erect them together and they have generations of teaching and learning how to do it. Plus, their houses are small. I would think running an electric line in would be the first thing they would do.

Aw man. They were having this really hot outside sex scene where others were nearby and could almost see but then they had to ruin it by getting up and going inside. And here I thought the sex was finally taking an interesting turn.

Laying on your back and stretching your own ass while pregnant is not an easy nor erotic thing.

Ok, they can hear the other guys having sex so that's different.

Well that was a mighty convenient ending.

Well the world building was different and interesting. Good set up for future books in the series. The story had decent peril. But somehow the story was just average for me.
