Himanshi Shelat is a significant name in the post-modern Gujarati short story. After having done a doctorate on Naipaul, she served as a Professor of English from 1968 to 1994 at Surat after which she concentrated on her constructive work for the social uplift. Platform Number Chaar, the memories of her work among the urchins loitering and living at Surat railway station, won her the prestigious Nanjangudu Theerumalamba Award among others.
These true stories will melt your heart. Salute to author's efforts for bringing some rays of light and hope in the lives of orphan children who spend their lives on railway platforms. A very short and soul stirring book. Must read.
