Daelynn Quinn was born and raised in southern Maryland where she spent her youth exploring and falling in love with nature in the woods behind her house. Daelynn’s writing is fast-paced and laced with current issues that concern her. Her first dystopian trilogy, Fall of Venus, focused on climate change and the biochemical industries. Her recently-released YA novel, Neverland Academy, delves into child abuse and negligence. Daelynn is excited to be commencing a new series, which will tear into the animal exploitation industries. While she is not reading or writing, Daelynn enjoys brainstorming while mowing her lawn, cooking healthy meals her kids refuse to eat, and watching old episodes of Mr. Bean with her three boys.

*I received a copy of this book for free from the author (from YAholics Anonymous on Goodreads) in exchange for an honest review.*

Let me first say, I have never read a Dystopian novel before..so I didn't really know what to expect. I LOVED this! The author just sucks you in to her story. Her writing style flowed so smoothly. The characters are well developed, the plot had many twists and turns, word building was awesome and it kept me on my toes. I really liked Pollen, the main character. She starts out weak and kind of discouraged but by the end of the book, she is strong and determined. I hated Glenn from the very beginning, at first I couldn't really put my finger on it but as the story and plot thickened, my disdain for him just grew. Towards the end he did gain a few sympathy points from me, but not enough to get me to like him. Marcus and Evie also have a soft spot in my heart. I'm eager to learn more about Evie and what makes her so "peculiar." The ending left me frustrated...not because it was poorly written but just for the simple fact that now I have more questions than answers. I can NOT wait until book 2 comes out! I MUST find out what happens next! A must read for anyone who likes dystopian, fantasy type books.

OHHHHH so that's what an infinity fly looks like. It was described pretty well in the book, I was just trying to figure out how the eyes form the infinity symbol, but yeah, it makes sense now.

Pollen and Marcus
I knew this was going to happen. Regardless of the fact that Pollen is engaged. I knew it. I am quite happy with the fact that although Pollen feels as though she knows Marcus, they don't just start being all couple-y. I extremely liked the fact that for a little while Marcus refused to become involved with her because he didn't want to be used an thrown away.

Glenn
Oh Glenn, such mixed feelings I have about you. One minute he is doing something completely stupid and betraying people, the next minute he's like:
"Oh Pollen! I know I crossed the line (Again) but I want you to know that I will always care about you."
Alright cool Glenn, you know what you should do, pick a side and stick to it. Thanks.

Crimson
I loved learning about Crimson it was really interesting. Also, while you are learning about Crimson, the author makes everything relatively easy to follow, which is always good.

Conclusion
I really liked the concept of this book, and the story is easy to follow and really interesting to read .

I was given a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

In a situation very reminiscent of The Maze Runner the story starts off with our heroine, Pollen McRae, awakening in a forest with no short term memories and unsure of where she is and who she can trust. To say that this book starts with a bang would be an understatement! Daelynn wastes no time at all in getting right into the action and having Pollen pursued by bounty hunters straight off the bat and the pace doesn't really let up from that moment. There was a point midway through the book where I apprehensively thought that things may start to slow down and lose momentum, however I was very relived to find that this didn't happen. In fact this particular part in the book was used to go back over lost memories so that we could get a clearer picture as to what happened prior to Pollen waking up in the forest.

The pace of the story is what really drew me in, it was action-packed from the start and never let you feel at ease that Pollen and her newly found companion, Marcus Stygma, would have any respite from what was happening around them.

With the age of the main characters being slightly older than normal in a YA novel there were some adult themes that you wouldn't normally see in a book from this genre. But as these weren't very detailed it didn't spoil the story but rather made it more believable. You would expect this from people in their late teens/early twenties.

One thing that was lacking, in my own opinion, was the absence of any explanation as to who was behind the release of the virus and the main 'Big Bad' that would be the focus of Pollen and Marcuis' efforts. This will, I expect, be covered in the future books but a little more information would have been nice to see.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will be adding Crimson Return to my list of books to read in the near future.

I finished reading this trilogy a few days ago and needed to think about what I would write. This story deserves a good and honest review.

I've read a lot of dystopian and post-apocalypse stories and this one, Fall of Venus, set itself appart from all the ones I've read.
For one it's a story about hope where fiction sort of meets reality.
It's a clever story. Daelynn used a good doze of imagination. You won't see the end coming unless you read all 3 books. It's worth it.

Normally when I'm done reading a story, I move on to another one.
Even though the story was an amazing one and I was happy I read it, I take it for it is, a story and I don't think to much about it after.
Daelynn's story is different as I felt I had to stop reading for a few days and think about it.

I normally read every day and now I think I'm going through withdrawal *lol*.

The story has a lot of action and a lot of other elements that make the story an amazing one. But one thing it has is it makes you thing about our own planet, humanity and beliefs.

I have an awful feeling that within the next 100 years we will have a war triggered by earth resources decreasing, price of food, global warming, the richer getting richer, the middle class thinning out, power hungry people and governments, greed, overpopulating, etc.
At the same time we will be colonising Mars.
I hope we don't make the same mistakes we are doing with Earth.

I don't know if Daelynn ment to send us a message through her story or just try, with her story, to spark conversions around coffee stations or at kitchen tables but that story is definitely the kind of story that makes you talk about all that and maybe change your thoughts on humanity and/or beliefs.

What if the story becomes a reality for Earth and humanity?

Thank you Daelynn for an amazing story.

4.5 stars ** Excellent debut novel **

*I was given a free e copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review*

My first thought when I read the last paragraph was "Oh my gosh, I get it now!" I love that!!! This was the first time I've ever had that kind of a revelation at the end of a story. What a fantasic way to end part 1. I'm glad I didn't read any reviews before I read this book. I think some of the reviews would have ruined the ending for me. If you're thinking about reading this (and I highly recommend that you do), then please try not to read anymore reviews. Trust me, its so much more fun to figure it out on your own!

Intriguing, fast paced and an absolutely awesome story with wonderful characters! I can't wait to read the next book!!

Also, I need to mention this - I love the variety of vocabulary in this story. A great many YA books lately have had such limited vocabulary and/or repeat the same descriptive words, sometimes several times on just one page, that it diverts my attention from the plot. Yes, I'm anal like that. Mrs Quinn uses words like perculating, delectable, imputed, disconcerting, impish and discombobulation, to name a few. I was pleasantly suprised. Thank you, Mrs Quinn, for believing your readers are smart enough to understand. =}

Fall of Venus by Daelynn Quinn : "In the aftermath of a virus that has obliterated ninety-three percent of the population, Pollen McRae, a young woman finds herself scarred and abandoned in the wilderness, unable to remember the previous weeks." As you read along you learn about each of the characters; Pollen, Marcus, Evie, Glenn, you begin to love and hate them.

I enjoyed this book because it wasn't the stereotypical boy meets girl, boy falls for girl, the end. You really go on a rollercoaster with these people and feel for them. The only down side I've found is the ending, it was a little lacking for my taste. There is all this action and then... plop, the end of book 1. Other than that I found it was an enjoyable read.

Fall of Venus is a novel unlike any I've ever read before. This book is absolutely action packed. The characters are amazing, the storyline is so clever and so unique. I was fully invested in Pollen and Marcus and little Evie. I followed them throughout their journey. I felt every emotion. I cried and I cheered. I do however have one small complaint. The ending! Why?! I know that the author did this on purpose so that I would need to go out and buy the second book in order to learn what happens next and it worked! I will definitely be going out to get the next book because there's no way I will be able to rest until I figure out what happens to our little family of survivors! Great book :) Horrible ending!

A fabulous dystopian story set in a future where the planet has been ravaged by climate change and a killer virus that has virtually annihilated the population. The characters all mesh so well that you feel like you know them personally! Super characters - strong, secure, but with pasts of heartbreak... It is an adventurous, emotional roller coaster traveling through on a track away from reality to another society where the human flaw is genetics and one time lovers are separated into prisoners and enforcers. I couldn't put it down and can't wait to see what happens in the continuance. I look forward to see where Pollen, Marcus and little Evie end up. Will their future become bright or will the plight of the world take its toll? A wonderful read!

4.5 STARS

Reads like a horror flick: fast-paced, non-stop action, with twists around every corner. Dystopian societies are some of my favorite reads, and this one does not disappoint. I think this could really rival some of the hot reads like The Hunger Games. Characters are believable and easy to relate to, never taking any actions that don't make sense, always following instincts. There's a lot of intense foreshadowing and it never disappoints. I didn't understand the title until the end, and then it blew my mind. There is a lot of novel material in this book and I truly look forward to reading the sequel. I would add this to your TBR and Must Read lists!

I bought this book after watching the trailer on YouTube. The trailer was brought to my attention while entering a giveaway for a copy of the book(which I had never heard of before,) but after seeing it I just had to buy it before the giveaway even ended. I couldn't put this book down! I read it all in one day! The story really sucked me in, very well written. A few typos, but it was no big deal in the scheme of things. I fell in love with the characters, was taken away from reality on a wild ride through a dystopian world, wonderfully built by the author. I can't wait for the next book in this series! I will definitely be buying it as soon as its available!

I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review. And I loved this book it was such a refreshing change from what i normally read. The author wrote with such detail i felt like a was there in the book. It doesnt take long to get into this book which is why i couldnt put it down. The only thing I didnt like about this book was the ending because it leaves you hanging. But I know the author did the ending like that so you have to get the next book to find out what happens. It is a wonderful cross between sci/fic, romance, and action all in all it was a wonderful read and I will recommend it to all my friends.

This book was so intense! It was very well-written and I had trouble putting it down. It had a bit of a love triangle, but the main focus was on figuring out what had happened and doing something about it. Very action packed with a lot of layers. I loved it!
The characters developed nicely and it had a solid ending. (Although I did immediately purchase the ebook for the sequel as soon as I finished.) This story is captivating. Easily one of the best dystopians that I've read this year.

I started the book not knowing what to expect, but I finished the book excited, impatient for the next one to come out. I have never read the final paragraph of a story and been more sorry to have it end. With a few words at the close of the book, Daelynn brought the whole of her novel to an exciting resolution, one that is poised to launch what promises to be an epic saga. I could never have guessed at the ending, but I gasped with recognition, marveling at the tale she created.

My actual rating is 4.5

The end of part 1 was really really interesting. I can't wait to read part 2. What I like about this story is that it started vaguely then ends up with a tease. The author reveals sensible twists and turns at the right time. I was really indulged in reading this; my heart pounds when she's hiding, I felt that I was her at times, and I felt her anger, frustration, reasons. The novel has flaws but it was a really good read. Fall of Venus, A1D3, Desmond Earth, wow. They are coming!

Wow. My mind was completely blown after reading Fall of Venus. This book opened a new door and genre of fiction for me and I can never go back! No regrets though. Quinn's writing style is well practiced and relatable and gets me on my toes after every page. The plot is flawless, the characters raw and relatable...but the cliff hanger at the end.. Waiting eagerly for the next book! I just love love love sequels & trilogies.

3.5 stars - my review got taken down for some reason... so I put it back up. I don't see what's wrong with it.

Ignore the terrible cover. Stop frowning at the unusual choice of title. Give up trying to pronounce the author's name. Listen up 'cause this story is a lot better than it looks.

I found Fall of Venus to be a decent blend of clichés and originality. There were parts that kept me on my toes and there were parts that I couldn't stop smiling, but there were also times that I wanted to tear my hair out with frustration. I will say that I quite enjoyed the story... when I wasn't rolling my eyes, of course.

The beginning was suspenseful and captivating, pulling you into the story straight away. I couldn't stop wondering what put Pollen where she was and what was happening to the world around her. Unfortunately we then met Marcus and that's where my main problem began - the romance. There's a love triangle. And cheating - kind of. There's a hot guy. There's an ex whose arrogant. The new guy makes the protagonist "feel things she's never felt before". You know the drill. It's not my cup of tea.

I stop and hold my hand out in front of Marcus. His firm chest bounces back against my hand and I can feel lumpy protrusion of his abdominal muscles press against my outstretched fingers. I miss Glenn. His abs aren't as solid as Marcus's and he did start to develop some love handles last summer. But he loves burgers and fries, so it was bound to happen at some point.

Yeah, that sort of romance doesn't work for me. Or anyone really, I hope. Luckily, it did evolve past the silliness. The bulk of the book centers around action and suspense, enough that I could block out some of my irritation. I did enjoy the character of Pollen as much as her stupidity at the beginning was irritating, and in the end I would have to say I enjoy it

So... I've officially cleared out another book from my Kindle. Yippee, but there's plenty more to go.

Fall of Venus is a really interesting story, though certainly not my favorite by all means.

According to the title and the end (which I thought didn't make sense at first), I'm assuming the planet the story is set in is the planet Venus, which I find extremely cool. On this planet though, the planet has been getting hotter every year and people have to stay underground every summer just to keep themselves cooler. Sounds like actual Venus with it's 90+ times the atmosphere of Earth, right?

Well, that's just the basic premise. Eventually a virus wipes out most of the people on the planet, and Pollen McRae, our main character, is one of the survivors who manages to escape a refugee camp that isn't exactly what they say they are.

I find Pollen a really interesting character, but I really didn't like how she's so chatty. She's extremely random and babbles about everything, which I personally find some of it unnecessary because no one needs to know about bladders. That's just too much information and it's like tweeting that you're using the restroom. Does anyone need to know that? Noooo. I certainly don't, because why are you bringing your phone into the restroom of all places? No wonder said phone falls into the toilet.

But, despite the fact she babbles a lot, I found it interesting enough to continue reading. Plus, it just shows how much she changes from before the virus wipes out most of the world – from someone who wouldn't let go of an aggressive boyfriend just because of because and quite whiny to someone who was strong enough to stand up for herself and cleverly plots to leave the refugee camp... twice. Can you imagine the guts to do that? Escaping a tightly secured camp! o_o Plus, she's not exactly whiny anymore, which is a huge plus.

The ending did feel a little abrupt though. It felt like it was more of a "oh, well, let's just toss this random cliffhanger in and hope for the best." At least until it made sense... while I was outside and turning the ending around and around because something about it was nagging me.

Interesting plot/storyline, quite a lot of errors, lots of flashbacks – there didn't seem to be much going on. However, it did make sense since – that was not an error of homonyms – Pollen did have to regain her memories back. But... it was more meh. On the bright side, it does seem that the sequel will be less focused on flashbacks – I hope.

The first in a new sci-fi series by Daelynn Quinn, Fall of Venus is a futuristic interplanetary yarn set on a planet with problems (not to mention plants and animals) very much like our own. Over-consumption and human apathy have left the planet in dire straits with most of the population forced to live underground during the blistering summer months. But carbon footprints become the least of her problems when Pollen McRae, a quiet, mousy, twenty-year-old, wakes up in the middle of the woods with no idea how she got there. Soon she meets up with Marcus, a young man with similar memory problems, and together they try to discover what's going on, what's the meaning behind their mysterious new tattoos, why all the animals are dead, and just who exactly are the people chasing after them.

Action-packed with cliffhanger chapter endings, Fall of Venus is a deft blend of environmentalism and sci-fi, all packaged around one young woman's determination to survive. As someone who cares about the health and viability of our planet I did enjoy reading Ms Quinn's interpretation of a world in which nothing was done in time and how the characters live with the consequences of their actions. And since it's not done in a preachy manner, readers who may not be so environmentally inclined will be able to enjoy it as well.

For a science fiction novel, Fall of Venus kind of creeps up on readers with the sci-fi elements; it's not a book that can be immediately categorized. I actually mistook it for general adult fiction and then survival fiction, but when the sci-fi bits do appear they certainly pack a wallop. I did wish for more of an indication in the beginning that the story was set on a planet far away. I probably would have been a little less confused.

This is another book that I got to read over Thanksgiving break. I have sat on this book for a long time and I am not sure why. The cover didn’t draw me in at first glance but the synopsis did! I apparently went on a dystopian kick over that weekend too. Between this book, Sanctuary, The World of Ash, and Red Hill, I was in dystopian heaven. I am always surprised when an author finds an original idea in the dystopian market and Daelynn Quinn does just that!

Fall of Venus is an interesting take on the dystopian tale and I was very intrigued by the story line. Being that Pollen doesn’t remember anything there are lots of twists and turns in the plot. She meets Marcus along the way and he doesn’t seem to remember much either. I always find amnesic symptoms to be extremely frustrating for the characters and for me as a reader. I always want to know more about them and their back story but that can’t happen when they don’t remember anything.

This is an definitely an adult paranormal book and I would recommend to all adult fiction readers.

Rounded up from a 3.5 - this feels like it could have potential, and I may seek out the sequels, but it rambled aimlessly a little much for me, even in the context of the "amnesia" of characters. Also a bit distracted by the names, since there is no explanation as to why such unusual names were used (Pollen, Clover, Sage), especially in conjunction with more "mainstream" names (Marcus, Glenn, Evie).
