England, 1677

The last of three sisters to marry, Lady Rose Ashcroft is determined to land a wealthy, titled husband--a marquess perhaps, or even a duke. Having had her heart broken in the past, she's decided the key to enticing a man lies in hiding her intelligence and academic interests while flaunting her more feminine qualities. Matchmaking mother in tow and strategy firmly in place, Rose heads off to Charles II's court to find love...

And runs smack dab into Christopher "Kit" Martyn, the one man who could ruin all her plans. Kit is a dashing, successful commoner with his sights set on landing the post of official Royal Architect--and he's the only man Rose feels she can honestly talk to about anything. Kit knows the true Rose, and he wants her, but she thinks of him as a family friend. Can he convince her that a title is unimportant compared to the passion he knows they're destined to share?

This review is from: Rose (Flower Trilogy, Book 3) (Kindle Edition)
Rose bk 3 in the Flower trilogy had the potential to be the best in the Flower series. It starts out very good, but than it crashes and burns. Rose goes off to court to find a title husband escorted by her mother. kit the hero of the story is not titled but very very rich. Rose is very attracted to him physically but he doesn't have a title so she wants them to just be good friends. Of course her physical attraction to Kit out weights her mind. Their lays the conflict in the story.

My problem with the story is Rose decides to kiss every unmarried titled man at court. This didn't work in a Historical setting, if the story was taking place in the present time it would work. Young unmarried virginal women did not go around tongue kissing every man they saw in public in the Kings court. She would have been labeled a whore. What was worse her mother let her do it. The other problem I had with the story was Ellen Kits sister, this whole scenario should not have been put in the book. Ellen is very spoiled and selfless. In the end; so Ellen will speak to her brother Kit and come to their wedding Rose gives Ellen her entire 10 thousand pound inheritance, to make up with her brother and come to their wedding BULL CRAP!!!!. I suspect LR just wanted a higher word count. I found in reading L. Royals books that she is her own worst enemy!! She gets very long winded. She does a very good job of setting the Historical period, but than she writes her characters as 21st century people. L. Royal also, has a bad habit of putting secondary stories like Ellen's that have no real connection to the basic storyline. Which was Kits work being sabotaged and Rose not wanting to marry an non titled man like Kit. I would like to ask the author does she really believe someone would give up their entire inheritance for a selfless foolish girl to come to their wedding? Ellen didn't deserve a penny of Rose money or her brothers money. Ellen felt she was entitled to her brothers money but she wasn't. I gave it 3 stars becasue I liked Kit an even came to like Rose a little. I also, liked some of the previous characters from the others books in the series and it was good to see how they were getting on!!

Rose, the middle Ashcroft sister, has been a determined title-chaser since we first met her in Violet. She was hot for Ford, Viscount Lakefield, until Violet caught him. She actually went into a pout when the next man she set her cap for—Rand, who was only a courtesy "Lord" at the time—preferred her younger sister Lily.

Now her Mum (yes, Violet, Rose, Lily and Mum—I did tell you these people all have plant names) is taking her to court where she can meet all kinds of titled men and maybe catch a husband.

Kit Martyn, an architect and friend of Ford and Rand, has been attracted to Rose since he first met her, but he knows she's determined to land a title, and he's a commoner. He might get a knighthood if he can win the position of Deputy Surveyor under Christopher Wren, but he's afraid to bank on it, and meanwhile Rose is snogging every Lord in Court. In fact, she's getting a bit of a slutty reputation—and this is in the licentious court of Charles II, where the king himself openly plays musical mistresses

…and marriage doesn't seem to stop anyone else from sleeping around either.

Meanwhile, things keep going wrong on Kit's architectural projects. And while he's been working his arse off to put together a tidy fortune so he can buy his sister Ellen a titled husband, she's gone and fallen in love with a pawnbroker.

A pawnbroker!

Yeah, that's about it in terms of the plot arc. I'll give it 3.5 stars but then drop a half star because I was annoyed with the too-pat denouement.

Three stars.

Unintentionally funny Line: "She pliéd and stepped forward with her right foot at the same time she finally found her tongue. "(Oops! Where did this come from? Almost stepped on it!)

Lady Rose Ashcroft is determined to marry a wealthy, titled husband. Pretending by flaunting her feminine qualities and hiding her intelligence she went alongside her matchmaking mother to Charles II's court to find love. Yet she meet a successful commoner architect whose sight on the post of official Royal Architect, Christopher "Kit" Martyn. Their relationship began in ease of friendship - or that was on part of Rose because Kit wants her yet she was oblivious to it - firm in her decision to marry a titled husband. Read more to find out!

I gave this book a 4 stars out of 5 stars.

I like the overall all plot though not very much. I liked other Flower series better than Rose's one. But I must applaud the author. Because of her well-researched story and how she wonderfully weaves fictional tales while vividly describing the eccentricity and gaiety of society in the Charles II's court. It is truly realistically written that I cannot help but intrigued, awed and astonished at the goings of the court in that era.

Even if I know this character existed in every of her daughters' story, I cannot help but liked her and she definitely a scene-stealer here! Lady Chrystabel is indeed my favorite fictional mother figure. The characters Rose and Kit were both perfect yet flawed and I liked them as well! Even if at times I cannot bear to stomach Rose's perception of commoners because she seemed snobby when saying or thinking that, I still liked how outspoken she is. That and her generosity and oh well, except when she well yet am I glad that she learned her lesson for that behavior? Indeed. As for Kit, I do not know what to feel about him. He's a lovable person but at times, I did wonder, did he cared or am I just imagining it? You'll understand if you read it.

Even if this only a character that not fully on this book but she had played a major point in this book. I meant for Ellen Martyn. I don't care enough for her because of her attitude towards Kit. I fear I do not understand her at all. She just appear to me as headaching character. I won't lessen a star if it's not related to the story, but she is. This is terribly a spoiler so don't read if you haven't read the book.

Overall, I enjoy the book even finish reading it in less than 24 hours.

Lady Rose Ashcroft is the last of her sisters to get married- and she’s not too pleased with it. Rose doesn’t think that she has unrealistic expectations. After all, she wants to marry a titled peer that she can be happy with and love. Determined to find a husband once and for all, Rose and her mother attend King Charles’ court. When she meets a handsome Duke, she thinks that everything is finally going to go her way.
Kit Martyn has worked his entire life for the position of Deputy Surveyor. Currently working on 3 projects for His Majesty, Kit doesn’t have time for the present. His only thoughts are for the future of his younger sister and himself. When he meets Rose Ashcroft, Kit can’t help but be captivated. But he is not a titled peer, and so Rose only considers him a friend. But the Deputy Surveyor position comes with a knighthood, and Kit is determined to not only win the position but win Roses heart as well.
-Dual POV
-Historical romance
-He falls first
-Open door- mild to moderate detail
-Friends to lovers

This final book in the Chase family series ended it all in such a perfect way. I honestly loved having the Ashcroft family break all the traditional molds of stories told in the 17th century. All the women were independent and well-educated, with parents that not only supported but encouraged them to find a man they loved. To my mind, Kit Martyn was the perfect hero for our Rose. It was such a treat reading a story where the characters were friends before they were anything else. I feel like in most historical romances they become friends once married, so this was such a good switch-up.

Another historical romance done right. At this point I’m just keeping my fingers crossed for a Rowan and Jewel story. Now that has the potential to be EPIC.

Lady Rose Ashcroft knows what is important, a man with a title. She knows she wants a wealthy, titled husband and nothing is going to stand in her way.
Rose also knows that her academic interests, the languages that she speaks, her intelligence and general interest in life must be masked, if she is to bag such a man. She must let her beauty and flirtatious nature shine instead.
But her plans did not include the very handsome and dashing, successful Christoper 'Kit' Martyn.
Kit is a very close friend of her younger sister's husband and he is not only honourable and honest, but he has a wonderful sense of humour and ambition. But he is not titled, he is a commoner, a self-made man, an extremely talented surveyor, but nevertheless untitled, therefore he is not what Rose wants.
But no-one kisses her like he does, he admires her frankness, enjoys her speaking her mind and she has never felt so relaxed and free as she does with Kit.
And so this love story begins. As usual Lauren writes this romance beautifully, capturing the era, life at the Court of King Charles II and all the emotion that surrounds this deliciously humorous and passionate story. Lauren's characters are so entertaining, their conversations enchanting, Lauren is a master at her craft, and I absolutely loved this tale!

I’ve enjoyed all of the books in this “Flower” series and even though Rose was my least favorite of the Ashcroft sisters, in the end, her story turned out to be my favorite of all them!

Rose has always been determined to marry a wealthy man with a title, and now that her other two sisters are happily married, she’s feeling a little desperate to find that perfect husband. Her mother takes her to King Charles II’s court to try and meet someone and even though she tries to fall in love with practically every man there, the only one who really does anything for her is a family friend she happens to run into: Kit Martyn, a friend of her brother-in-law, Rand. Kit is a hard-working and successful architect who has always had sort of a thing for Rose, but, alas, he’s just a “commoner” :).

I thought Royal did a great job of making Rose a sympathetic character when she could have come across as just snobby. Any time she’s with Kit, we get to see what she’s really like, which is a quite likeable person. Kit is awesome, too—so sweet and down-to-earth. I loved the two of them together and will probably read this story again sometime (although probably the “sweet and clean” version, now that I know it exists).

I honestly didn’t think I would enjoy this as Rose demonstrated poor character in the past couple of books in the Chase family series. She’s been conniving, petty, and annoying where her sisters were involved so I was sure I wouldn’t enjoy reading something from her point of view. However, as much as those things were true before - and to some extent true again in this book, I actually found myself rooting for her.

Rose is bound and determined to marry a nobleman. That is what she wants. After all, her older sister and younger sister are deeply in love with their noble husbands and Rose is a lady. She should marry a nobleman. Kit Martyn is her brother in law Lord Nesbitt’s best friend and architect to the king. He’s wealthy and values intelligence and hard work. Whereas Lady Rose has always played the flirtatious fool in front of men, in front of Kit she is just herself. She feels no need to hide because he is just a friend. Until he kisses her and she questions everything.

Surely going to King Charles’ Court will help her land a titled man for a husband, except none of them measure up to the commoner Kit. It’s refreshing reading about Rose learning what truly matters in finding her own happiness.

Contrary to some reviews here, I really enjoyed this book. This was Rose and Kit's love story. Kit loved Rose and had been attracted to her for four long years. Rose thought of Kit as a friend. However, Rose had determined it was just as easy to fall in love with a titled man as a pauper and she wanted a title. That way of thinking did make me a bit crazy from time to time. It was revealed quite early that Rose dislikes kissing. But after Kit kisses her, she becomes determined to find a member of the court who can kiss like him. That gets her into some hot water as she gains a reputation after asking several men to kiss her. The Duke is enamored of Rose but his kisses aren't good. Still, to be a duchess might be worth it. There were some truly hysterical scenes involving some very racy reading material (with diagrams!) that virginal Rose offered to translate from Italian to English for Kit's sister, Ellen. When Rose takes the book to court and accidentally leaves it with her cloak in the ladies retiring room, the other ladies discover it. Word soon spreads that Rose has this book and she becomes more popular than ever.

There was so much more to this story and I recommend it if you like historical romance. Personally, I loved it.

This is another book of Lauren Royal's set in the restoration, and one of the interesting parts of this book is the lurid and colorful descriptions of the Court of King Charles II. Royal creates a bright and vivid atmosphere in her setting which adds to the overall feeling of the book. As in her other books, Royal creates two very living characters. Kit, the talented commoner-architect who has struggled to save enough money that his sister will be able to marry a title - and Rose, an intelligent woman who has hidden her intelligence in the hope of attracting a titled man. Kit and Rose almost instantly feel an attraction, but Rose forces it aside - Kit is a commoner, and she desperately wants a title, so there is no chance of anything happening there. But as Rose finds herself hobnobbing among the elite - and debauched - members of Charles II's Court, she comes to discover that perhaps true nobility is not found in a title after all. This is a charming and well written book.

A lowering of expectations

Rose is and has always been determined to wed a lord. Her father is an earl and she is beautiful so there should be no impediment. After turning 21, with both of her sisters happily wed, she is frustrated. Though she has a brilliant mind, she tries never to let the men of the ton be aware of the fact. Her mother sets about to give her a chance to be presented at court and attend the Court's entertainments.
As the old saying goes, Rose is soon to find that, "All that glitters is not gold!" Nowhere does that prove to be more true than her time at court. You'll continue to enjoy Rose's race to the alter as she puts a new twist on getting v to know the court's lords.

I enjoyed reading not only this Book but the "Chase Family Series"
Albeit the Series was Great, Rose's Story was Wonderful, Rose's Character was not. I felt that She was a Spoiled Immature & Extremely disappointing. Her Character at Court was appalling to say the least. She was constantly upset when the Men tried to touch her especially after She had been asking these Men for a Kiss. Not just a couple of them but almost every Man that wasn't married.
Other than that, Rose, the Story, Scenes & Characters were Absolutely Wonderful.

What a Story

I absolutely loved this series and Rose was the perfect end... I was excited to read Rose’s journey to finding the perfect match, I loved her character and I’m so happy Kit finally won her over.

The Flowers books are probably my favorite Chase Family series. Beautifully written with so much detail you feel as though you stepped back in time. I can’t wait to see if Rowan and Jewell marry.

An amazing continuation of the series

This is another amazing story in a brilliant series. The plot is full of emotional twists and turns, with a wonderful surprise at the end. The characters are beautifully portrayed with the required strength to overcome their obstacles. This is a great book that will suit all those who love steamy historical romances, that have a bit of suspense.

The love story of Lady Rose and Christopher "Kit". Kit is a architect, want to be the Royal Architect and he want his sister to marry a noble man but she has other plans. Rose always dream of marry a duke or an earl so her mother take her to court to meet her future husband. Will she find him, will his sister marry a noble man and will Kit get his dream? Great story.

An enjoyable book. I liked the way the story developed, the nuances that foreshadowed things to come, the satisfying resolution. Only four stars because there was some "fat" in the story, things that made it longer than it needed to be, not to mention ten percent of the book was back matter. Does that affect the story as a whole? No, but it was annoying enough for me to downgrade one star.

Phew! Back to what I expect. This might rival Ford and Violet’s story. I love how Rose comes to love Kit as a friend first. She learned a lot about herself and her values in this book. It was a good character journey and Kit comes across as a genuine and steadfast lover for her. Mum’s machinations in this book went well beyond her previous dealings, providing some fun comic relief.

Humorous with great characters

Rose found that marriage was to a man, not a title. Kindness , honesty, and love won her heart and her hand in marriage. This book was full of humor and kept the reader guessing all the way to the end. A great read.

A broadminded mother

at least in sexual matters if that will advance her matchmaking, although not so open-minded when the potential groom lacks a title.
