Lilias Folan, known as the "First Lady of Yoga" since her groundbreaking 1972 Yoga series Lilias! Yoga and You, has been regarded as one of America's most knowledgeable and beloved Master Yoga teachers. Through her television shows, books, audio tapes, videos, dvds, workshops and seminars, Lilias has spent nearly forty years inspiring students and teachers throughout the USA with the benefits of yoga for the body, mind and spirit. Steeped in many different yoga traditions, in recent years Lilias relies strongly on her own personal experience and intuition to influence her teaching.
I am of the age that I grew up watching Lilias on PBS. She was my first image of what yoga is. As I have an aged body now I am thrilled to see that she is continuing to be active, and vital in the yoga community to offer a book that focuses on adapting exercises to one's bodily needs.
There are spiritual themes, and exercises in this book, however, that is a small portion. The physical hatha yoga takes center stage with good pictures, and written instructions to achieve the postures she shares.
Lilias is my s-hero and has been for many years. Her words never become stale. I will re-read this one again and again. Sage words. And yes, the JOY has been, and remains, in the journey.
I love this book. I haven't ever read it all the way through; I just pick it up every now and then and read a little bit. Lilias is like a wise mother giving good advice from her experience. I want to be like her "when I grow up."
I enjoyed the gentle wisdom of this seasoned teacher. Not all her approaches resonate with me, but that is the vastness of yoga. I do appreciate her openess and vulnerability. Lovely book to introduce yoga to anyone's life.
This is a sweet and wonderful book. I learned so much from it about the koshas! Lilias is very down to earth and insightful. She communicates well how the practice of yoga- not just the postures, but the priciples of philosophy make our lives better.
Lilias is known for making yoga easier for those who want to do it, but aren't acrobats. In this book she delves into the philosophy and how yoga connects you to the being within. This book takes yoga beyond mere exercise and helps you integrate it into your daily outlook on life.
Lilias Folan is unspeakably wonderful. Her spiritual knowledge will guide any yoga practitioner firmly, safely and decidedly in the right direction on the yogic path.
