I'm Haley Whitfield, and I recently had the ingenious idea to enlist my mother, Allison, as my kick*ss sidekick and set out on a road trip. This road trip wasn't to be just any road trip, but a very special one indeed. An adventure with an acutely specific purpose - to find our other halves. The peanut butter to our jelly. The i to our Phone. The stripper to our pole.

If our romantic desires were a personal ad, they would read something like this:
** Two sassy women (Ages twenty-seven and forty-nine respectively - Ouch. Okay, ages twenty-seven and thirty - with nineteen years experience - respectively) seeking Alpha Males to love us with zeal and kiss us with skill. Gorgeous face and sexy, tattooed, hard body a must. If you aren't a dangerous bad*ss with the x-rated skills and virility to match, don't bother. Must be willing to protect us from danger, value our quirkiness, and keep your mouth shut when said quirkiness is what leads to said danger. Momma's boys named Dan Smith need not apply.**

I know. It's a bit wordy. In fact, it would probably cost a fortune. Luckily, we're not ready for the personal ad. We're not that desperate... yet. This is my story.

Warning: Some explicit language and sexual content.

A is for All Over the Place.

Talk about a complete flip from the last book that I read. With the last book, I delved into the first couple of chapters assuming that I'd love the book and ended up not really liking it. With this book, I was a couple of chapters in and ready to DNF the thing. I figured if I kept reading, I'd end up giving out a big fat 1 star rating. The first few chapters were embarrassingly awful. It took me a while to warm up to the story because of it.

There were two immediate "uh oh" flags :

1. Kristen Ashley fangirling. Uh...is this really worth basing a book on? I don't think so.

2. A mother effing "perfect guy" list. This is one of the biggest flaws with romance novel expectations in general - the idea that these "larger than life" heroes are going to somehow transfer well to the real world. Newsflash : in real life, most of the leading book men would be HORRIBLE partners.

Anyway, back to the book...to my surprise, after I got past my frustration with the list, I realized that I had started laughing. The humor is very spazzy and all over the place, similar to The Unidentified Redhead. But I liked how the characters eventually started to discount the list that they'd made for themselves. Idiocy gave way to common sense. And hijinx ensued.
"You jedi-alpha-mind-tricked me!"

Sure, there were several eye rolling moments...why anyone would add "uses nicknames" to their list as a GOOD thing, I don't know. A cute term of endearment is fine, but I actually hate the use of terms like baby and daddy (yeah, KA actually used daddy in a book *shudder*). I guess to each his own. But it's not for me. I'd rather a couple have a term of endearment which comes from their own personal story (and not overuse the darn nickname) than throw out a generic 'babe' all over the place. While I think "Hales" and "Danno" were kind of dumb nicknames, at least it was personal, so I'm only halfway weirded out by those.

I couldn't get over the main character referring to her mom as Allison instead of mom. When she was speaking to her mom, it was mommalicious or mammajamma (again, ridiculously unnecessary), but when she was narrating in her head, she switched to the name Allison. At first, it was almost confusing, as if her mom were two different characters. When I think of my mom, she's mom, not her name. If I were to narrate a book with her in it, I would assume my audience would be okay with me calling her mom.
Moms before Doms.

But for what it was...the story was cute, if sort of one-note (the road trip was almost pointless because the only good part of the story involved Hayley and Dan). Danny was a great guy and the pairing was a fun one.
"Listen, nobody out smartass-es me, so you're going to have to turn it down a few fucking notches."

It's nothing to write home about, but..if you're looking for a simple love story with several cute (if spazzy) and laughable moments, you might find yourself having fun with this book.
I wasn't exactly an employee of Small Plastic Penis Paraphernalia Enterprises.

Although, I don't think I'm going to read Allison's (the mom) book. While I found Hayley to be a comical firecracker, her mom was kind of spacey and odd.

4--Fun--Stars!!!

Loved the concept of this book--mom and daughter set out on a road trip in search of their own Kristen Ashley alpha males....alphabetically listing out the traits they are looking for.

A is for alpha male
B is for badass
C is for cool name

And my personal favorite...

J is for junk--as in he's got good junk!!!

Mom--Allison and daughter--Haley set off with no plan in place and no direction in sight...just wherever the road leads them. With their game plan in place

“Chicks before dicks.
Hos before Bros.
Moms before Doms.”

they embark on the Kristen Ashley Exprience.

First stop: Gulf View, Alabama where Allison and Haley meet Danny and Tim McGraw lookalike Wade.

They spend a view days here and Allison and Danny really take a liking to each other. But before long the adventures must continue and Allison and Haley continue their journey leaving with promises to keep in touch along the way.

If I am being completely honest, I found the first half of the book to be a bit boring and on the slow side. Yes, Allison and Haley were fun and crazy but it was almost too much. I got lost in all of the over the top antics and details.

Allison and Haley continue their journey making stops in Denver, the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas and California. During which, they embark on fun adventures, blind dates, and some gambling.

The longer Allison and Haley are gone the more Haley starts to question her feelings for Gulf View Danny. They talk throughout the trip but it's always at a friendly level. Both Allison and Haley learn a lot about themselves along the way...about what they want out of life and their relationships, etc.

There was a nice twist thrown in--that I really didn't see coming--which made for a sweet ending.

So...do Allsion and Haley find their alpha males along the way?

This was a quick fun read ....a little over the top maybe but enjoyable just the same! I felt like there were some loose ends with some of the other characters.......so hopefully we will get some other books on the secondary characters.

Just an FYI, for my sex loving friends, this was more on the YA side. There is cussing but the sex is pretty limited and fade to black. But still a fun read!

Allison and Haley‘s Great Adventure

(‘The Kristen Ashley Experience’.)

Haley and Allison embark on an epic road trip (one I think we should all do once in our lives) their goal… to find their very own Kristen Ashley Alpha Males. Tired of the losers from their past, a mother daughter road trip is exactly what they need to find their dream men...I mean, they have to be out there, right? They’re not asking for much just as long as the men they meet have everything they need in a man, refusing to settle for anything less. Based on some of their favorite books they set off on a trip of a lifetime, with their kindles in hand and their alpha men guiding their way...

“I’m telling you, badasses have cool names. Tatum Jackson. Raiden Miller. Kane Allen. This is what we need. If I meet another Dan Smith, I might kill myself.”

From Alabama to Denver to the Grand Canyon to Vegas and Malibu, their crazy mother daughter adventure was something she needed, her mom is her best friend and nothing could ever take this experience away from them. A friend who unfortunately, didn't really have a cool name and wasn't interested in her the way she was in him, guides her along the way making sure she stays safe and doesn't settle for less than she deserves.
“I want to understand your list, Hales. I want to know the reasons behind it, the men you dream about. I want to live the worlds you lived when you read these books and know what you felt when you read them. I want to know you. And your mother daughter road trip proves that your books are the perfect place to start.”

I abso-freaking-lutely loved this book, it had me cracking up and swooning, sometimes at the same time. Haley was overly-dramatic, sarcastic and totally in your face, she was quirky and needed a man to accept and understand her. Allison was the coolest mom ever, and I’m super excited for her book. There were unexpected twists in the book that I wasn’t expecting, but it added just a touch of drama. There was a lil steam in the book, love the position by the way, lol. But what I loved most was Haley and her crazy self plus the banter between Haley and her friend, it was just too damn cute. This book was an awesome tribute to Kristen Ashley, can’t wait to read the next one!

This was cute. Not exactly what I expected but a fun read. Lovers of Kristen Ashley will most definitely get more out of it than people who have never experienced her level of awesome. I'm going to just go out on a limb and assume that this will encourage a few non-believers to give KA's books a shot. And they will likely bow down to Laurel Ulen Curtis for pointing them in the right direction. I applaud her just for that. But she also had a great idea for her characters.

I suppose with three stars, most people will think that I didn't like it, and that's not the case. I was pretty engaged the whole time. I just think my expectations colored my thoughts. With a title like this, I expected the male lead to me more...KA like and...well, more alpha. And this guy was a great guy, but he really wasn't all that alpha. He lets his woman continue on her road trip and date other guys. That's not alpha. That's almost a pushover. Also, the road trip aspect consisted of Alabama and Vegas and that's just about it. I guess I just wanted something different. But I'm still glad I read it. Anyone this big a KA fan is good people ;D

I really, really wanted Allison to get a man as well, but the focus was really just on Haley's love life, with Allison along for the ride. Which I suppose was another expectation that I set for myself and didn't get.

There were a lot of funny moments, and Haley and Danny were a great couple together. I loved how he just sort of rolled with her quirky, goofy behavior and always wanted to make her happy.

There's a bit of a twist that I think most readers will be able to spot from a mile away. Problem is, the twist is never really explained very well. This part was very glossed over and just felt weird to me...totally under-explored as a plot device.

A few fave quotes, Sharon style:
** "Of course I wanted to embarrass my children one day. Isn't that why people had kids? Besides free labor."

** "God, that was nice. I wanted him to use that finger to touch me other places. Dirty, dirty places. Well, not dirty literally, I'm not dirty or anything. I'm clean. Very clean. illicit places. But illicit. Illicit doesn't sound as good. Whatever. I wanted him to touch me. Like immediately."

** "Chicks before dicks. Hos before bros. Moms before Doms..."

** "I was in love with him. With Dan Fucking Smith. And I hadn't even seen his penis."

This book is one of pure joy and love.

As soon as I saw the blurb for it I knew I would have to read it as soon as I got my dirty little hands on it and I was so not disappointed. I honestly think everyone around me was considering having me committed after I spent the day hysterically laughing at my kobo and muttering to myself.

 photo joy_zps271df5bd.jpg

So if you have read the blurb you know the basis of the book is that done with dating the losers who are local, mother and daughter set off on a road trip to find the perfect Kristen Ashley Alpha males. They sit down and come up with an alphabetized list of traits they feel embody the perfect KA alpha. As a KA fan I have to admit this alone had me half sold on the book. I mean how can you go wrong if your looking for a man like any one of KA's alphas?

 photo men_zpsf31950b5.jpg

The relationship between Haley and her mum was awesome I can only hope as my daughter matures we can stay that close and I love that the brother was as well written as everyone else even if he did only have a few brief telephone appearances.

 photo PicMonkeyCollage_zps48c4ab58.jpg

I had such a hard time finding the right picture for my idea of Haley as I kept getting hung up on her crazy, unique, strong, wonderful character and I kept coming back to actresses I know who had similar traits so althought I don't think she would look like Jennifer Lawrence that was who I was thinking of as her personality as I read the book. She was the sort of girl I would say to my teenage daughter see how she is just nuts and doesn't care or apologise, I hope you grow up to have her strength of character.

 photo REDLOVE_zps53334a64.png

There were so many points in this book I laughed out loud and got finger cramps highlighting that it's hard to explain what I loved about this book without just saying EVERYTHING I loved EVERYTHING but I think this gif is probably the best place to start.

 photo elaine-dancing-o_zpsf52f82e3.gif

Ok I don't want to give away any of the story so I am not going to tell you about Tim McGraw or Danny or how amazing the road trip ws but we all need a little eye candy to help us so I will include this picture of Dano (your welcome) enjoy.

 photo dan_zps190a4c84.jpg

So needless to say I loved this book it wasn't my normal smutty read but it didn't lose any points for that mainly because I was too busy laughing my ass off at everything that came out of Haley's mouth. You absolutely have to go read it now with a glass (ok ok a bottle) of wine.

4.5 Dan "f$*king" Smith stars

description

This is a Mum and daughter road trip in search of their ultimate ideal alpha male. Hayley and Allison are driven by their obsession with all things romance and Kristen Ashley style, so they create an alphabet menu of must have traits, which they frequently reference as they travel across America.

I have only read a few KA books, but can still appreciate the references made in this fabulous feel good story.

Written from Hayley Whitfield’s POV, we are ingrained in her life (& mind) very quickly. Standing alongside the sassy, sharp talking girl, with her swanky Mum and best friend, we trawl the country for their quintessential match. We are party to their authentic antics and Hayley’s playful banter.

description

The lighter side of the story is offset against the life of Dan Smith, who they meet at their first port of call. He injects his own unique qualities, as well as messing with our hearts.

An absolute gem, that has definitely accelerated my KA reading, as well as ensuring I read any future work from this new author to me. Looking forward to meeting her in London in April 2015 <3

Okay this one did not fail to make me laugh!!! Seriously hilarious!!!
description

This story is about an outrageously funny smartass 27-year-old named Haley Whitfield and her Mamalicious/Mamajamma, still hot as hell at 49, Allison Whitfield. These two partners-in-crime are set out on a ridiculous roadtrip on which they call "Allison and Hayley's Great Adventure (The Kristen Ashley Experience)". And why are they set out on this road trip, you ask? Well... It's because they are out to snatch the perfect alpha male!!!
description

Pumped up and determined, they pursue this road trip!
BUT WAIT! Let's not forget their "A-Z List of the Perfect Alpha Male"
description
description

AND TA-DA!!!! YOUR PERF ALPHA MALE
description

So the uber funny and weirdo mother and daughter leave for their road trip. They drive for miles and miles, set out to find their alpha males they read in their favorite Kristen Ashley books!! Let me tell you, their driving moments were one of the best! Just super duper funny!!
description

But even though they are the craziest mother and daughter on the face of the earth, their relationship with each other is really inspiring!! They were just so sweet and caring to each other. They actually reminded me of my own Mamalicious and I. But srsly, I loved these two girls!
description

I don't want to go into the further details so as not to spoil all the good stuff!! But......

HOLY DAN EFFING SMITH (i immediately thought of Chris McHottiePants Evans esp cos of the cap, sorry not sorry)
description

description

description

Anyway, looks like Haley might have found her alpha male? Maybe? HAHAHA READ TO FIND OUT!!!!!!

And you won't regret the steamy scenes!!!! LIKE Y-U-M
description

Over-all, I loved Haley's foul-mouthed but smartass mouth!
description

And her ridiculousness
description

I also loved Allison's fun and bubbly personality, even as a 49-year-old mother!
description

And THE ALPHA MALE
description

description

AND EVERYTHING ELSE
description

BUT THEN.....

PLOT TWIST, PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!
description

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHA JUST READ IT EVERYONE!!!

Some of my favorite lines:

If love were a location, it would be a paradoxical mixture of the safest place on earth and the most vulnerable. Like an airplane. It’s not quite the safest place on earth, but it’s pretty damn safe. But people are seriously scared of it. And when you fall, it’s a hell of a long way and the landing is really, really shitty. Same as love.

Chicks before dicks.
Hos before Bros.
Moms before Doms.

There in his arms, a place in which I had spent remarkably little time, felt amazingly like home.
Like it was right.
Like it fit, and it was meant to be.
Like it was made just for me.
Intimate, present, aware.
Perfect.

Anyway, super duper amazing job Ms. Laurel Ulen Curtis

This is a difficult book to rate… until about 75% I have had several times where I just wanted to DNF but something made me keep going.

This is the story of 27 year old Haley and her 49 year old mother Allison. They go on a road trip together to find their own Alpha Males using an alphabetical list of traits based on Kristen Ashley’s Alpha Males. Will she find her own Alpha Male using the list or does she just have to open her eyes?

If you don’t know Kristen Ashley yet… Give her books a chance! She’s an amazing author and I love her books. Therefor I liked the references to her books and Alpha Males.

I initially picked this book as my next read because it was categorized as Funny and I was looking forward to LMAO but, for me personally, there was nothing funny about it!

Also right from the start I was extremely annoyed with Haley calling her mother Allison! To me that is very disrespectful. I really liked the strong bond they have and they really are alike but calling her Allison is just wrong to me!

I’m glad I continued reading because the last quarter was worth it!

At 84% I was doing a little happy dance because one single word made me aware where this book was going and I’m glad I was right. It was a welcome twist in this book.

At the end there was finally a part that made me laugh but it’s a little spoiler so skip if you don’t want to know …

I would have loved to have read Dan’s POV here and there to get to know more about his thoughts but it seems book 2 will give those. I’m not sure yet if I will read that book. Book 3 will be Allison’s story.

A is for Alpha Male is the author’s self- described version of a fangirl love letter to fellow author Kristen Ashley. I really enjoyed the first book that I read by Laurel Ulen Curtis called Impossible and I adore KA’s books, so it was a no-brainer that I wanted to get my grubby little paws on this book. AND I FLOVED IT- ladies, if you love KA as much as I do, you HAVE to read this book! And if you have not read any of KA’s books yet, it’s not a problem. The story is more about the journey shared between a daughter and a mom rather than the KA references. If you love a strong sassy heroine who knows what she wants and is determined to find it with some pretty funny situations and mishaps thrown in along the way, you will love this book too.

Too often lately I find that the heroines of the books that I have been reading just over-the-top annoy me, and I was delighted to find that I didn't feel that way once throughout this story. Haley and Allison are a hoot! Haley has the trademark sass you would expect from a Rock Chick, and although Allison has had horrible luck in the love department lately with some real pieces of work, that buried side of her personality really emerges as well as they get deeper into their road trip. The relationship between the two women was heartfelt, loving, supportive, and almost sister-like at times. I loved one of the book’s opening scenes where Haley is just 6 years old and complaining to Allison that boys are dumb after her brother wouldn't let her ride a four-wheeler with him. Allison agrees with her but goes on explain that she will still want one someday.

“No. Dumb or not, you’re still going to want one. […] One that makes your heart race with anticipation, your skin tingle with awareness and your veins sing with excitement. One that accepts you for who you are and brings out the best in you.” The fingers of her slim hand tensed, and then she told me the most important quality of all. “One that shows you the kind of love you never dreamed existed.”

Years later, after striking out one too many times on the dating scene, Haley decides they should go on a road trip to find their very own Kristen Ashley alpha males, calling it the “Kristen Ashley Experience”. They assign a desired attribute to every letter of the alphabet that they want in their ideal man, starting with “A is for Alpha Male”, and set out the very next day to start their journey.

“Where were the Kristen Ashley alpha males? I wanted one. […] They say you write what you know, and if that was the truth, I wanted a shot at Kristen’s inspiration. Good God, she could write one hell of a man.”

At their first stop along the way in Alabama, enter one Dan Smith- yes, that is really his name. Since “C is for Cool Name” he really didn't fit the mold in that respect. But Danny is definitely yummilicious (yes I just made that up but it fits), sending lots of mixed signals Haley’s way, and you just know there is more to him than meets the eye. Haley is struck by how comfortable she is with him and decides to test the waters with him, only to have Danny push her toward the “friends” route, offering to help her sort through the guys lining up in order to find one that fits her badass requirements.

“I feel like I've been waiting for someone like you… foul mouthed, brutally honest, and downright genuine… frustrating. God, you can be frustrating, but… well, I feel like I have been waiting for your friendship for most of my life.”

After spending a few days there, the girls decide to move on to their next destination, but Danny makes Haley agree to keep in touch as they drive cross country- just to help her weed out the undesirables of course. They visit Las Vegas, Denver and the West Coast as their quest continues. Through it all, Haley’s brother Hunter keeps in touch with them from home as well, letting them have their adventure but doing the big brother/ protective son routine that fits so well with his real-life hero status as a cop. This was his advice to Haley at the beginning of the trip:

“Have fun, and look out for Mom. Don’t let her get too Cougar-y, and try to reset her compass so it points somewhere other than asshole.”

He embodies all of the qualities that the ladies are looking for, and I hope he gets a story of his own down the road (hint-hint- nudge-nudge Laurel!).

I have so many quotes highlighted throughout this book that it borders on the ridiculous. I alternated between grinning, flat out laughing and fanning myself all the way through the story. Some of the most memorable moments come from Haley’s slightly wacky commentary in her own internal thoughts and in her conversations with Danny, and especially a scene between Haley and Allison at the Grand Canyon that becomes a YouTube sensation much to the amusement of Hunter and Danny who both see it within hours of posting. One of my other personal favorites was the first time that Allison gets a look at Danny’s uncle Wade who is a dead ringer for the new, improved and ripped version of Tim McGraw- check out the “Truck Yeah” video if you need a visual.

So, did either of the ladies find their badass alpha male? Well you have to read it to find out for sure, but I promise it will be a wonderfully enjoyable ride! I have already re-read it twice in the few weeks since I received the ARC from the author. The references to KA’s books and characters were fantastic and fans of all her series will love them, covering everything from the Rock Chicks to the Colorado Mountain men to the Burg series and the Dream Man series. It made it even more special somehow when I read in the Acknowledgments that KA herself read the story and assisted in making everything spot-on; I can only hope she loved it as much as I did and that you will too!

Notable quotes:
“You Jedi- mind- tricked me! No, it’s worse than that, you Jedi-alpha-mind-tricked me!”

I also had a great body, a perfect mixture of soft bountiful curves and a flat stomach. That I knew for sure. These things alone would make a guy go for it, even if I was a “Butterface” (everything is hot but her face). Hunter had filled me in on that fun little term. Seriously, guys were animals.

“If you get to the bush that looks like a set of balls with elephantiasis, you've gone too far.” I wasn't sure, but I was considering going too far just so that I could see such a bush.

“Jesus, Hales. You scare me, you know that?” Danny remarked, shaking his head in disbelief. I just nodded. This was nothing new. I scared most people. Hell, I scared myself most of the time.

Five Fucking Fantastic Stars

Holy Shitballs Batman! I Fucking loved this book! Haley was quite possibly the best female character I've ever read. I want to be her when I grow up! Her relationship with her mom, Allison is one that I really loved reading about. It's one of those relationships all girls should have with their mothers. Hell, even the relationship she had with her older brother, Hunter was freaking cool. I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I started this, other than knowing it would be a cute lighthearted read from the blurb. And while it was those things, it was also so much more. It was freaking hilarious! I seriously couldn't stop laughing! There was also a small (ish) seriousness to the plot that gave it just that much more greatness. I tend to use profanity a lot so when I read it it doesn't bother me. It seems like it makes the book more real in a way. Haley and her 'dirty mouth' felt about as real as it gets and I freaking loved it. I know, it's weird to like that a book used profanity, but there it is. I did. Sue me. Dan-O was an alpha male in disguise. Sort of anyway. I liked him from the moment he opened his mouth and said "“Tsk, tsk. Only one night in and you’re already lowering your standards and straying from the list? I expected more backbone from you.” Yeah it's pretty safe to say, he just got better and better. As did this book. And let me just clarify something, those who know me know I love a good steamy book. And while this book had some steam, it was more PG-15 than my preferred NC-69 ;) And even still I freaking loved it! That alone should tell you, its a great fucking book. Go read it! I'm not gonna recap the story, as there is way too much to go over and you just have to read it to get the full benefits of its greatness, but I will say this, #1: I love KA as well and I loved how the author wrote that in. #2: There is a twist that does have some foreshadowing, but I didn't see it coming till it was right in my face! (that could also be due to my lack of intuition) #3: Go read this book! Oh, I would be remiss if I didn't also mention the great editing and easy flow of the story as well! :D

3.5 stars. A cute, quick read. I’m a huge Kristen Ashley fan and loved seeing her characters and their stories referenced - and loved that idea of Haley and her mom , Allison, going in search of the KA perfect Alpha. Funny book with a quirky female lead. The mystery embedded in the story was pretty predictable, but regardless I enjoyed Danny and Hale's love story. It took a very long time for these two to get “busy”, but when they did, it was steamy. I would have liked more interaction between these two love birds and more answers involving Danny's situation.

4-4.5 stars

This was a really good story. I loved Haley and Allison and enjoyed their mother/daughter relationship. Danny was pretty kickass as well and I was rooting for him from the begining. This is the first book I've read by this author and based on this, I'll be trying more of her work in the future. The story is good enough that you don't have to be a fan of Kristen Ashley books (as they're referenced frequently in the story) to enjoy the story but it has special meaning to those of us that are already KA fans and have read her books.

Haley is a freelance writer that lives in Knoxville, TN. Haley is smart, spunky and snarky. She's very honest about her feelings and has a very "in your face" attitude. I liked Haley and while she might be a little over-dramatic at times, she seems to be fun and have a kindness that makes me feel that I'd wish for a friend like her in real life. Unfortunately, her love life isn't that great and she keeps meeting lame guys that are no where near what she's looking for. Haley and her mother have both read Kristen Ashley's books and love the Alpha male heroes described in the books. When they decide to go on a road-trip, they decide to find themselves KA-type Alpha males. Before leaving on their trip, Haley and Allison made an alphabetical list of desirable attributes in the men they are trying to attract to be their guide, starting with "A is for Alpha Male" and on from there.

Dan Smith is a bartender in a beach-side town in Alabama. He's had a hard life (although we don't get a lot of background until the end) and hasn't had a lot of luck. That changes when Haley walks in to his bar. He know right off that she's the one for him but also realizes that things can't be rushed and so, like any Alpha male, he aims to maneuver things the way they need to go.

Haley and Dan hit it off from the beginning. Dan seems to "get" Haley and likes her unusual behavior that puts off most men. There's an instant connection between them that has Haley very interested in Dan but when she give him the "green light" he doesn't cross the street (so to speak). Haley's disappointed but still likes Dan and decides he'll still be a good friend. Dan overheard Haley and Allison discussing their list of what they want in a man and Dan tells Haley he's going to help her find the perfect man for her, since they're now BFFs. They spend some time together but just as friends (although Haley is confused by some mixed signals Dan's sending) and after a few days, Haley and Allison decide to move on with their road trip. Dan makes Haley promise to keep in touch after she leaves, promising to help her with man advice while she's on the road.

Haley and Allison continue on their trip, heading for Colorado next (the state that many KA books take place in) and they meet some more men but no one that's good enough to make Haley forget Dan. Especially since their phone conversations make it hard to forget how great he is. Knowing that she's well and truly falling for Dan and it's pointless to try finding a man when she's hung up on one already, she gives up the man hunt and concentrates on enjoying the trip and quality time with her Mom as they move on to Las Vegas and then on to the west coast to visit the pacific ocean. By this time, Haley and Dan's phone convos aren't quite as platonic as they should have been and Dan asks her to come back to see him and stay for a few days so they can have time together. When she gets back, Dan's attempt to keep things platonic goes out the window and they spend a few glorious days together, at the end of which, Haley is going home but Dan agreed to settle up his life and move to be with her soon after. Unfortunately, things don't go as planned and Haley sees something that hurts her and causes her to doubt Dan and their relationship. There's some drama and truths that have to come out before it's all settled but with some time they get things worked out. In the end, Haley and Dan are together and starting their well deserved HEA.

I really enjoyed this story. The characters are great and I'm so happy that Haley and Dan found each other and worked things out. the story was humorous and light in some parts and strongly emotional and touching in others but overall was well balanced. I noticed a few typos but other than that I thought it was well written. I'd recommend this book. Thumbs up!

This book begins when Haley and her mother Allison decide to go on a road trip to find their "alpha men." So the next day the hit the road with no destination in site, and just plan on touring around until they feel like going home. They have a whole lot of miles to cover but neither one of them realized what or who they would find a long the way, and it is a huge surprise for everyone especially Haley.

This book was so so so so so good. I could continue on with this but I won't. Just know it is good! Heck it's better than good its freaking RIGHTEOUS! Seriously it was almost like a tribute to the one and only Kristen Ashley! And that made me love it all the more. But what I liked about it the most was Haley, and Allison. They have a beautiful mother daughter best friend type of relationship that sets them apart from most mother and daughters. And not only that they are each uniquely crazy. They made this story uproariously funny! Seriously I laughed so hard I cried through out the whole book. Not just the start or finish but literally the whole book! Then not only is it funny, and have an awesome two female characters it has a kick butt alpha male who I adored! He was different than some but he was still a sexy alpha. I loved this story, and the writing was just perfect. Kudos to the author for such an awesome book. I do look forward to more now! But I will say I don't really think Danny needs more to his story. I would rather just have his hea not is sadness.

Even with the bad language and crude conversations this tale could have been as good as The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants with a zest of lust and angst at the end. Unfortunately, the mom and daughter duo as a whole failed me. It was the chunks of monotonous "in your own head" conversations that say nothing but take up space on the page. It’s what drives my readers mind crazy!

Throwing my head forward, bending in half at the waist, and sending my hair up and over my head, I used both of my hands to bunch it together, making sure to get all of the hair that had a tendency to stick to the back of my neck. Straightening back to full height, I held the bunch of hair with my right hand, pulled the hair tie off of that wrist with my left hand, and secured my hair at the crown of my head..... Sorry, but that's just ridiculous detail.

There were 4 pages of Haley and Allison going through a McDonald's, it was just over exaggerated nonsense that wasn't even trying to be funny..

I understand this author is a fan of Kristen Ashley (KA). I very much understand that as KA was my first author crush. I only gave up on KA since she became a published author, and started adding ridiculous amounts of unnecessary nonsensical detail in her latter published books.

I’m just sorry Ms. Curtis didn’t take up the writing style of KA’s books from her self-published days.….
This could have been a great story, and a great read.

Lindsay: So... I know you read this forever and a day ago, but what did you think?

Nikki: Five Fucking Fantastic Stars! I Fucking loved this book!

Lindsay: LOL. I shouldn't be surprised. I think anything KA related is an automatic 5 stars for you. ;)

Nikki: Hey! I can't help that I love KA. She's amazeballs!

Lindsay: LOL. So you've said...many times.

Nikki: Ok miss smarty pants....what did you think?

Lindsay: Geeze. Put a girl on the spot why don't you?!

Nikki: *raised eyebrow* That didn't answer my question....

Lindsay: LOL. No need to get testy!

Nikki: *waiting with squinty eyed look*

Lindsay: Well...I can't say I loved it.

Nikki:

Lindsay: In true KA fashion, I had a love hate relationship with it.

Nikki: *rolling eyes* You and your KA issues!

Lindsay: LOL. Hey. That doesn't stop me from reading KA. And it didn't stop me from reading this.

Nikki: *blushing* I did wonder if you'd have issues. Was there anything you liked?

Lindsay: Yeah, I liked Haley. She was funny and outrageous.

Nikki: Haley was quite possibly the best female character I've ever read. I want to be her when I grow up!

Lindsay: LOL. I hate to break it to you but you are in fact older than Haley. :P

Nikki: :| You had to go and bring that up!? And may I remind you that you are too!

Lindsay: Lol. I know. But you're still older.

Nikki: Anyway...as I was saying, Haley and her 'dirty mouth' felt about as real as it gets and I freaking loved it.

Lindsay: LOL. It was good. She had me in stitches. And I actually have a friend that's like that, so Haley reminded me of her.

Nikki: Her relationship with her mom, Allison is one that I really loved reading about. It's one of those relationships all girls should have with their mothers. Hell, even the relationship she had with her older brother, Hunter was freaking cool.

Lindsay: See, the relationship with her mom was something that bugged me. It wasn't bad. It was really good. I'm really close to my mom and spend a lot of time with her, but Haley and her mom had a...weird...WTMI relationship. There were a lot of things I wouldn't have done or said with my mom around. It was just a little weird to me. Especially with Haley calling her mom Allison. I would forget that they were mother/daughter until Haley would go back to calling her mom or mommie.

Nikki: LOL. Ok, so they had a weirdly close relationship that included talking about having sex and a guy's junk...and I couldn't do that with my mom, but I still thought it was great.

Lindsay: Yeah, I can agree on that. It was a nice change of pace to read about a great relationship between the main character and their parent vs. all the bad relationships in other books.

Nikki: You know, when I started this, I wasn't quite sure what to expect. Other than knowing it would be a cute lighthearted read from the blurb. And while it was those things, it was also so much more. It was freaking hilarious! I seriously couldn't stop laughing!

Lindsay: I have to agree. I did love the banter between the characters. I have quite of few laugh out loud moments.

Nikki: I know we hate giving away spoilers, but we should probably discuss the small (ish) seriousness to the plot that gave it just that much more greatness.

Lindsay: I agree. I found that to be a nice little, albeit unexpected, treat.

Nikki: We've got to talk about Danny "Dan-o" Smith.

Lindsay: LOL. I loved him. From the first time he was introduced, I was hooked.

Nikki: I agree. Dan-O was an alpha male in disguise. Sort of anyway. I liked him from the moment he opened his mouth and said:

“Tsk, tsk. Only one night in and you’re already lowering your standards and straying from the list? I expected more backbone from you.”

Yeah it's pretty safe to say, he just got better and better. As did this book.

Lindsay: I agree. And the banter between him and Haley just made the book for me.

This book was hilarious. And sweet. I loved the relationship between Haley and her mother Allison. Who wouldn't want a relationship like that?!

“I just want you to know how proud of you I am, Haley. You have your crazy moments...well, a lot of crazy moments. But you are such a strong woman. Confident and classy, despite your sailor mouth, and you always but always choose honesty over a lie. Whether that be when it comes to others or even just being honest with yourself. Fiercely protective of the people you love and loyal to a fault. I am so proud of the woman you are. I just wanted to make sure you knew that.”

I just loved them. Her mom was just so amazing and their dynamic was sweet to witness.

Haley actually reminded me of a KA heroine. Go figure with all the KA references in this book lol. Good thing I'm a huge KA fan. I fan-girled at the mention of Joe Callahan myself. He's still my favourite hero hands down!! Honestly though, Haley cracked me up!!

“AS I CAME down from my star demolishing, Earth and Mars shattering, fire breathing, sword swallowing orgasm, lying cradled sweetly against the heat of Danny’s comfortable chest, it hit me.
What? It was a really good orgasm. That description seemed appropriate. Breathing fire and swallowing swords required talent, as did producing a truly mind blowing orgasm for your female partner.
Danny could swallow my sword anytime.
Wait.
That didn’t sound right.
Right. Getting back on track.”

As for Dan Smith. There was just something so appealing about this man. But I needed more. I needed his POV to flesh out his character. He was pretty one-dimensional although I could tell he really wasn't. I'm thankful in knowing that there's a book from his POV out there. That will be my next read. I'm not sure I want explicit details about his past but I would like to pick his brain regarding his journey to developing feelings for Haley.

All in all this was a great book. If you like crazy antics, gut-busting laughs, and a friends to lovers story, this book is for you!

This was a rare five star read for me. This was a fun , quick read , that was a homage to author Kristen Ashley's Alpha males from her books. This was a fresh idea, paying homage to a fellow author's characters from their book.

Haley and her mother set off on a road trip in search of "Kristen Ashley "like alpha males from her books. Haley and her mother comprise a "A to Z" list of qualities for these alpha males they are looking for. They set off on their journey and the fun begins. Their trip starts off well, gets bumpy and in the end twisted around. This was a fun ride and Haley finds her man in the end, but he is not what she expected. Haley and her mothers antics are hilarious at times and I wish I could have been along for that ride!

Smart and funny!!

A is for Alpha Male begins with Hailey and get mom making an alphabetical list of make traits they'd want in a man all referenced from Kristen Ashley books and then depart on a road trip in pursuit of said Alpha male. What happens is a hilarious road mother daughter road trip spanning several states and featuring more than a few Kristen Ashley references.

All in all I absolutely adored this story. Haley and her mom Allison are hilarious and I love their witty banner. Dan was so great too. I really want my own Dan Smith someday. Having read all books out so far in this series I'd highly recommend not only this one but the whole series

I absolutley bloody LOVED LOVED LOVED this book. By 6% I was giggling, then belly laughing then snorting. Seriously, do not read this book in a public place (like I did in the doctors waiting room - they thought I was a total loon sniggering and snorting to myself).

I adored the style of writing, loved the characters and the story (even the twist). A brilliant, brilliant read and I am a fan of Laurel Ulen Curtis for life.

I loved this book! It was so freaking funny! Haley was such a fun leading lady!! The things that came out of her mouth had me laughing out loud. I loved all the Kristen Ashley references and the relationship Haley shared with her mom! This book just had a good feel to it that had me smiling all the way through. Not to mention there's one hot alpha male! Great job writing this one Laurel!

Haley and Allison are out for adventure and to find the ultimate Alpha. That is what they do, but not without some twists and turns and lots of laughs. Things are not always what they seem but you have to see the whole picture and be willing to listen to the truth before you can completely give in with your heart.

L-O-V-E-D this book! I was skeptical at first but I fell in love with Haley and Allison. Oh and Danny. I kinda figured the whole secret plot line in the beginning but was not disappointed regardless. I think what makes this book so good is that she hit the quintessential qualities of a true KA (Kristen Ashley for those who don't know) book. I'm excited to read more from this author!
