Click on Banner to enter! TEN eCopies of LIGHT are up for grabs!

The magic and power of light, bright, shimmering, sparkling in a world filled with war, deceit, uncertainty and love. Perhaps it was the brightness of love that brought Lucy into the land of fairies, into a realm she has dreamed about and never understood. Is it possible she is not human? Could she be the reason fairies are dying? Light by Karla Corona is more than one more fantasy tale for young teens on up, I was completely impressed with the directions this new author has taken her readers on.

Lucy, her fairy name being Alyna, is brought into the fairy realm to meet the mother she never knew existed and to learn of the great sacrifices her Fairy father made in order to have her. But why did she grow up in the human world? Why must she come to the fairy realm now? Who can she trust?
Ray is assigned to be her personal guard, his duty is to protect her no matter what and for the most part, his does his job well, almost mechanically, but there is something about him that sparks something in Alyna. Alyna is royalty and the classes do not mix, ever and she is being forced to marry another for political reasons. Let’s just say she is NOT going down without a fight! This smart and down to earth girl turns her back on as many traditions as possible, much to the delight of some and the dismay of others. Will Alyna be the fairy to save her realm from evil forces? Who will stand with her when the time comes? What of her heart? Overwhelmed, lost, but determined, she is a force to be reckoned with as good vs evil meets head on.

Karla Corona’s writing is magical, like the fairytales of my youth, complete with elements of awe, including magical flowers that mimic cellphones and much more! A delightfully imaginative style and ability to weave great detail into scene in her world seems to be a strong point for Ms. Corona! With strong characters, a sense of intrigue and several new twists popping up throughout, I think Ms. Corona is on her way to being a wonderful addition to teen/YA reading! Looking for a magical tale that will keep even the most reluctant young reader enthralled? You can’t beat a fairytale and Light is an excellent contemporary twist on the genre that is both well written and well-paced!

I received this copy from Karla Corona in exchange for my honest review.

So many thank you's to the author, Karla Corona, for allowing me to read this in exchange for an honest review!

I can honestly say I loved this book. This book is by a younger author and she did extremely well for her first book. It made me cry! That is some feels right there! I'll admit, I was slightly apprehensive when I started this book just because I've read so many fantasy books about fairies and such that I was worried it would just be a copycat book. It was quite the opposite. The plot was so far off the beaten path (at least that I've read) which I thoroughly enjoyed.

So the characters. As I read the book, I definitely saw growth in Alyna's character (Lucy). She's 16 and definitely acts exactly as one would. The only thing I have to say is that sometimes, the writing (especially the dialogue) was a little stiff and formal and not really in a conversational tone. Other than that, I absolutely loved all the characters! Especially Ray *blushes*.

As I already mentioned, the plot was so different than any other fantasy book I've read which was such a nice change. Ms. Corona wrote a fairytale that we all dreamed of as children but gave up on as adults. But no fairytale is all happiness and she perfectly integrated the elements of evil (namely faymons) into the story. Some things were left out, and then explained (or half-explained) later which sometimes worked and sometimes didn't. Also, there were a crazy amount of plot twists that had me going on an emotional rollercoaster. I won't say anything or I'll ruin the surprise so I'll just tell you that it definitely keeps you guessing! The ending was fabulous. There's an ongoing theme/message throughout the book but it becomes clear at the end in case you missed it. Ms. Corona perfectly gathered up loose ends and sewed together the seams of the story, allowing the message to make it's way to the reader.

4 stars for this book! I love love loved it but there were a few things that took away from it's overall awesomeness. Ms. Corona has so much potential and I dearly hope she writes another book - you can be sure I'll read it!

EDIT to add: I'm definitely not in the target demographic (10- to 15-year-olds), which does influence my opinion.

Sumup: This felt like trying to read a very rough first draft, and I gave up.

The writing style is off-putting enough that after three attempts at reading this, I still haven't made it past the fourth chapter. I think a little editing would have gone a long way.

Specific issues:
- Minor grammar issues that should have been easily caught.
- A little less minor: The main character narrates almost entirely in a single breath. If it's not a run-on, it's probably still missing commas badly enough to make reading difficult.
- The main character seems to be a complete idiot. This is partly due to her high-speed rambling, but also because she's completely late to the game on everything so far. I think this was meant to come off as her being incredulous and/or in shock, but instead it just sounds like she is incapable of critical thought. (This after spending so much time establishing that she is a thoughtful loner.)
- Mary Sue? I think so, aside from the "sounds like an idiot" bit. A lot of time is spent talking about how special she is--well before it's established that she's secretly a fairy princess.
- Not an issue for everyone, but there's this dialogue (paraphrased, since I don't have the book with me): "I'm your mother! I created you!" "God made me!" "Yes he did!" /headdesk.

I realize that a lot of my complaints may seem minor to some people. My advice is to find a preview of the book, if possible, before buying.

If you have ever felt out of place this is the book to read. Light transports you to a place with wars, lies, and secrets. Where the slightest decision can change a whole world's future. There are some minor mistakes but you do have to take in consideration that it was self published. (Major props to the author for her first book.) There is more to Light than meets the eye. All you need is a bit of imagination.

I guess it's good if you let yourself have an imagination. It's an easy read.It starts kind of slow. Basic background. This book is about believing in yourself.
I read this with my little cousin and she made me rate it 5 stars. She's 10. She said she wants to go Hadas. (The fairy land where the book takes place.)
I enjoyed it.

First of all, I'm not much of a reader, but this book totally caught my attention. I like the design of the book. I loved the story from the beginning to the end. Such a wonderful imagination. Oh, how beautiful would Earth be if more people had an excellent amount of imagination. A good thumbs up to you Karla Corona. Head up. Never give up. I encourage you to write more!!! XOXO, Saira

This is the best fiction book I have ever encountered. I recommend it. Ignoring the fact of the few mistakes, the story transported me to a different world. I felt very connected to the main character (Lucy/ Alyna). Even though the story was made for younger readers, I think anyone with an imagination can read it !!
