For those who are not quite sure if Humpty Dumpty can be put together again or whether you have what it takes to reconstruct broken things, Nehemiah just might change your mind. Although he would never have volunteered for model status over the last several thousand years, his life has been just that. I think he would have argued that the spotlight should shine on another more deserving follower of God...but he would have been wrong. As you dust off the memoirs of this ordinary man, you likely will be inspired to serve the faithful God whom Nehemiah followed -- the One who led His obedient servant to attempt impossible, extraordinary things for His glory.

I really enjoy the books in the Wisdom Commentary Series by Stephen Davey. I like how he takes books of the Bible that are small and maybe not talked about too often, and is able to teach on so many different points. in this commentary on the book of Nehemiah, I learned that God will use an ordinary person to do extraordinary things. Also, when these extraordinary things are in the process of being completed, not everyone will be so happy for you. These people are critics and they will always be a thorn in the side of any person being called to do amazing things. I recommend this book to anyone looking to see if they have dreams or they feel God is calling them toward a certain vision.
I have read several of Stephen Davey's Bible studies. They are all well-researched and are full of practical application and are good resources for teaching. I highly recommend reading any of his books.
Really am enjoying every book he does of the bible as a commentary series. Helps me to dig deeper into what I'm supposed to be learning from the scripture as well as adding some humor to it. Big thing I learned from this is how Nehemiah prayed. A lot of us tend to wonder how we are supposed to pray, is God answering our prayers. I believe I was able to learn the answer to these 2 questions from reading this book.
This is a terrific book - it's a 4 1/2 star that I rolled up to a 5 based on how much I pulled from it.
I previously read ( see bookshelf ) 'Visioneering' a few years ago - it also used the O/T book of Nehemiah as source material; when you put it and Mr. Davey's book together in combination, you get a powerful testimony to true servant & replicative leadership principles, values, & the thinking behind it all.
Just finished this as my Bible study book. Please read it is an awesome book that brings what Nehemiah did into today's world. Awesome! http://www.life-leadership-home.com/S...
