4.5 Handcuffed Stars

Lawful Overdose is a light, slightly steamy, adorable read where the girl pursues the guy.

Lawful Overdose reminded me a lot like Beautiful Broken Rules (which I loved). Tessa is a slutty girl. Sex is her defensive mechanism. Jaxon just moved into town to be closer to his brother. Jaxon’s brother is Tessa’s boss. Tessa wants Jaxon and doesn’t beat around the bush about it, but Jaxon wants to get to know Tessa first.

I make my way to my top dresser draw and pull it open, searching through my lingerie for my vibrator. I find it and pull it out. This will have to do. 'It's your job to remind me why I don't need a man. It's time to get to work'.

I think the storyline is adorable. I’m starting to like sluty Heroines. It’s just comical to me. Tessa works at a bar/restaurant and she’s pretty loose. In the first chapter, she lets the bartender finger her in the bathroom. When I read that part I had a big smile on my face. Justine painted me a nice picture of the type of girl Tessa is.

Jaxon is a hottie! I love the name Jaxon too. He’s this mysterious new guy that comes into town. Jaxon has the right mixture of sexy male / brute alpha. Jaxon and Tessa party a lot and there are plenty of almost steamy moments (remember he wants to get to know her).

The insta-connection is quick and Lawful Overdose is a fast pace novel. I did kind of figure out what was going to happen, BUT that happens a lot to me in books, so I again, kind of put that in the back of my mind. I also appreciate Tessa’s stance against drugs even though at times she seems hypocritical.

There were some confusing bits when a different person is referenced from what is originally referenced, it's hard to explain, but I mostly over looked this. Overall, Lawful Overdose is an adorable read with an adorable story line.

Wow! What a pleasant surprise! Once I hit the first page i just couldnt stop? Dont you love it when that happens?

So Tessa lost her sister to drugs and has become total anti drug. She doesnt do em, and wont be around anyone who does. Cant blame a girl for that. She's in college, works in a restaurant/bar and rooms with her bestie Piper. They go to school, work and play together. Piper gets Tessa and is really supportive. Tessa's parents suck and are so checked out when it comes to her. But she still makes effort with them (and they dont deserve it, you will hate them). She likes to party, doesnt do relationships and is a good girl. One night while working at Ryder's she spots a hottie, who happens to be a transfer student and the boss's brother. Did i mention hottie??

Jaxon is 22 (ahem) and moved into town with his buddy Ryan. Jaxon takes a liking to Tessa. Ryan and Piper hit it off instantly. Tessa's approach with men, is kinda like being the "man". Get in and get out. She doesnt mince words or mix signals. She doesnt get turned down. Jaxon isnt just any guy though. He's sweet, funny, sext and the fun part about Jaxon.. mysterious. He and Ryan and interns for a company and they take phone calls at weird hours, have to leave in the middle of dates. Things really look shady. Tessa starts to think he's into something bad.
Jaxon really makes Tessa slow down. He freaking holds out on her! He doesnt want to sleep with her right away and makes her wait! It was so funny how frustrated she was..
Anyway, the mystery starts to unfold regarding Jaxon. I had already had an idea so it was exciting for it to all play out. There was just something about this book that made me devour it in a few hours. The characters were great, the story was great and the writing was great.

This book was decent but had the potential to be so much better....

It was a little hard for me to believe that Tessa was so against drugs but she had no issues being promiscuous and drinking like a sailor or going to parties where known people would be with drugs....

 photo tumblr_m5xihubpwx1rnt4zt_zpsa02c288b.gif

With regard to Jaxon's job, Tessa was a moron. I mean duh you put two and two together and you don't wind up with 3, dumb ass.... Use your common sense to figure out what is going on.

idiot photo youre-an-idiot_zps3f7872fa.gif

Also with regard to Jaxon, he was hot but then he went a little stalker crazy

I will say the story kept my interest and I wanted to find out what happened so I continued reading. Plus a bonus is it is a short read. :)

4 Sexy as Sin Jaxon stars

*Warning* This book is for mature audiences. It contains drugs, sex, underage drinking, harsh language, and is panty melting hot! And handcuffs!! (Got to mention the handcuffs)

Since the death of her sister, Tessa Grayson is invisible at home. Her parents barely speak to her or show any affection, so Tessa seeks affection from men, it's her way of blocking the pain and feeling something if only for a few short moments in her life..

My mother lives inside her head, and my father works himself to death, no wonder I'm so fucked up..

To make money, Tessa waitresses at a local bar and grill, where she's worked for a few years..where she meets Jaxon Wyatt who is her bosses younger brother, Jaxon supposedly just transferred to Eastern for his senior year of college to be closer to his brother..

My eyes stop on the most gorgeous man I've ever seen, I mean ever..His dirty blond hair is short and messy on top, like he just woke up our of bed. He's rocking a five o'clock shadow, he's tall and muscular, lightly tanned skin and his smile is infectious..

This story was hot, kinky and left me wanting more, I was hooked from page 1 right till the end, and yep I knew that's what Jaxon's story was!!

Let me tell you Lawful Overdose did not disappoint. Thank you Justine Elvira for the arc of this book today. I could not put it down and I have a new book boyfriend, Jaxon Wyatt. He's so sexy and desirable. If you love hot sexy reads you'll have to read chapter 17- claim me. She set the bar high for my future sex scenes. I will be reading more from this author and I recommend Lawful Overdose to everyone.

Amazing story. Had me hooked from the beginning and couldn't put it down. Read it in one day. Beautiful love story. Jaxon is the man of every girls dreams. Tessa had never expected to be swept off her feet. Never had a real relationship before. Can she deal with the secret that Jaxon is hiding and can love and trust conquer all?

I highly recommend this book to anyone that loves a great story line and some hot steamy sex. You will fall head over heels in love with Jaxon.

I’m going to try and be as nice as possible and just say this really wasn’t for me. I’m all for sexual freedom and would never slut shame anyone but the heroine was just a big no for me. It wasn’t believable for her to have been such a big slut and do a 180. I don’t care how magic Jaxon’s stick was. Of course I was able to figure out what was going on the whole time. Basically nothing was believable with the story or these people. It’s a big no for me. I did finish the book and didn’t *hate* the characters so for that I gave it an extra star. That’s a stretch though. I do not recommend this one.

**A copy was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.**

I want to start by saying Thank You to the author for asking me to read and review her book. This was quite the GEM. I was intrigued when I read the blurb, but didn't really know what to expect, since I had never read anything by this author. I will say I was pleasantly surprised. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was so much more then just a NA love story, where a broken girl meets a boy and they get together. This time yes we have a broken girl, but she is also the player. Yes she meets a good looking bad boy, but there is so much more to him...he has a secret. Yes they get together but there is so much more to them and their relationship. This story was a great love story but with the element of suspense. I just knew that Jaxon was hiding something...I was thrilled to learn that I was right all along :). This book will bring out many different emotions in you will reading it, but to me that's what makes it a 5 star book.

Tessa and Jaxon were great characters in my opinion. Yes Tessa was a broken girl but she was still a strong little spitfire. I truly enjoyed that she had a specific belief when it came to who she associated with and she stuck to it. No matter what it cost her. There was one part that I wanted to throttle Tessa. She comes from a horrible family unit. After her family suffers a tragic loss her parents, who of course to NO blame whatsoever, pretty much shut her out. Plus there were other things that happened in Tessa's past that would make anyone not trust people, but at one point that lack if trust really screwed things up. You'll need to read this book to know what I'm talking about. Now....as for Jaxon. He was great!!! I know he was keeping something but he truly didn't want to but had no choice. Jaxon was such a sweet man and you could totally tell that he was completely in love with Tessa. I loved that he refused to have sex with her until it truly meant something to her and wasn't just another conquest. But let me tell you that when they do finally get together....it is HOT!!!! I also loved the pace that the author takes their relationship, it made it believable.

As for Piper and Ryan ( Tessa and Jaxon's bff's) I loved their characters as well. I would love to get their story because I really don't think it is finished.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a love story with a little bit of suspense and a story of learning how to trust and love again. I am excited to read more books by this author.

Part of my problem with this book is that it's too short. Everything happens so quickly and there is no time to fully flesh out the characters.

Tessa is a party girl and college student, who likes to have lots of sex with different guys. She is vehemently opposed to drugs since her sister died from a heroin overdose at age 14. She won't hang around with anyone using drugs. Her BFF Piper is also a partier/sex-a-holic, and she does drugs occasionally (but apparently Tessa is ok with this?). Piper is not a character that is fleshed out enough for me to really care

Jaxon comes to town to complete his senior year of college. He and Tessa fall in insta-love (more likely, insta-lust). Even though Tessa has never had a relationship (never wanted one), she and Jaxon are instantly serious and living together within a couple of months. This is minor, but the fact that they never use condoms or discuss birth control really bugged me.

Tessa is, frankly, stupid. There are a million red flags that Jaxon is lying/hiding something from her, I figured it out pretty quickly. They both act really stupid and when everything hits the fan. First Tessa is an idiot, then Jaxon (blaming the reason you can't do your job on relationship problems, come on!) . I didn't really even care if they worked it out. We actually miss the most intriguing part of the book, and I think in this case we would have been better served by a dual POV. I wanted to know what happened to Jaxon after Tessa found out he was lying.

I was given this book for an honest review (unedited version).....

Let me just tell you that you will FALL in love with the main hero, Jaxon and find him just loveable. It is hard to balance work and love but in the end love will conquer all and your work will be understood.

Tessa did have major issues bit for good reasons and I am happy to say she had a back bone and stuck to her beliefs regardless of the heartache she suffered.

I would to warn you that the sex scenes are "I need to try that" worthy. Justine did not let me down but I was a fan from when I first read about my "book husband "Sebastian". I can not wait until book 2 because there I will get Ryan and Piper story and more on Tessa and Jaxon.

Ugh OMG I just loved this book! I have love Justine Elvira's other books but this one is my favorite for sure. Tessa is a college student living with her best friend and working her way through college. Not wanting to deal with something from her past she decides to stay in her sleepy town were she goes to college and work for the summer in the bar she already works at. Anything is better then been at home. After something tragic happens when Tessa is 14 her home is never the same. She rarely see's her mam and her dad would rather work 80 hour weeks then be home. So why bother. All she wants to do is party when she's not working and get laid. This girl has a one track mind. Find a bloke, get what you need of them and part ways. Its not the best way of dealing with things going on in her life but hey, who's perfect right? All of this is blown out of the water though when her boss Ryder's brother Jaxon come's into town. After transferring to the towns college to be closer to his brother. Her boss Ryder ask's her to do him a favor, could she serve his brother? She looks over him and as she sees him and all she thinks is WOW. She thinks it's strange but it's Ryder and his brother is hot with a capital H.O.T so off she goes to serve him with pleasure ;). He has her all flustered from start to finish and that was just taking is drink order! This is just the start of there story though and as they story unravels a few weird things pop up. But Tessa thinks nothing of it. But there's only so much of things been shoved in her face she can take, And one night it all comes to a head. Read this book! You will not be sorry! I cannot wait for the authors next book,I know it will be amazing :)

Lawful Overdose is a fun, sexy book about a wild free-spirited girl who falls hard for the new guy in town. Tessa is a fun flirty girl who likes to party and hook up. She drinks, she goes wild, she has sex but she also has her limits. She does take drugs and refuses to be around anyone else who does. The loss of her sister deeply effected her in ways she couldn't begin to imagine. With all her pain, she's never been close with anyone since. That is, until Jaxon hits the scene.

Jaxson, the brother of her boss, recently transferred to her college to finish out his senior year. Tessa is immediately taken but him but tries to keep their relationship within her strict guidelines of hook ups only. But Jaxson is a man on a mission and refuses to share. But he has his own secrets and those rock Tessa's foundation.

I really enjoyed this story but I wasn't surprised by the twist. That's okay though because I don't need a twist to complete my stories. I like knowing the layout. It was fun. Jaxson was hot. Tessa was challenging. There was one part where Jaxson pissed me off and the Tessa's reaction pissed me off more. But alls well that ends well.

This book was disappointing. The idea was pretty good, but the story was flat and predictable. Not that much is to be expected from these types of books (we don’t exactly read them for the story), but I think maybe the author tried to have more story than there was time to develop well.

There were also a few things that I found distracting - like grammatical errors, or suggestions such as ‘hippies’ aren’t good parents. In the conflict at the end of the book, the main character reacted to something she saw in a very appropriate way, but was made to feel guilty and wrong for it later. That also took me away from the story.

2 stars for the sex scenes, which were pretty good

I loved this book and loved Jaxon Wyatt even more. I seriously had a Jaxon hangover when I was done reading. I even went back and read the "swoon worthy Jaxon moments" for a second time. Anyway I will move on to the rest of the story. Lawful Overdose was an awesome, sexy and quick read.

We first meet Tessa who lost her sister when she was 14 years old and still hasn't gotten over the loss. She is basically invisible to her parents, being that they blame her for her sister's death. When her sister died she found comfort in sex. She wasn't looking for love or a boyfriend but just sex. It gave her the comfort that she needed ev. Tessa is now going into en if for a short period of time. She is now in her junior of college and not much has changed. She is living with her best friend and room mate Piper, working at a bar to make ends meet. She doesn't date, doesn't get attached and doesn't do the whole love and boyfriend thing. It's only sex to her and nothing more. When she spots Jaxon Wyatt at the bar that she works at she calls dibs on him and basically tells her best friend that she wants him, which means he is off limits to Piper. Tessa's only interest in Jaxon is sex. He's hot and sexy and nothing more than a way to full her needs. But Jaxon has has other plans.

Jason is oh so sexy and also happens to be the brother of Tessa's boss and owner of the bar that she works at. There is no doubt that Jaxon wants Tessa and noticed her when he walked in his brother's bar. When they meet later that night at a party, Jaxon is quite the gentlemen turning Tressa down due to her drunken state. At some point they go on an actual date and things start to get hot and steamy but Jaxon has decided that he wants to get to know Tessa which is why he resists her advances and doesn't have sex with her. Jaxons sees beneath the hard surface that is Tessa. He sees more than she thinks and knows that he is probably the first guy who has ever said no to her. But he isn't going to sleep with her until she is really ready to be with him and until he gets to know her better. He wants to show her how she deserves to be treated. Sounds like an amazing guy right? Well that's because he is :) Can you tell how much I loved him?....lol

Tessa and Jaxon start dating and everything seems perfect and wonderful until Tessa finds out that Jaxon isn't who she thought he was. There was one thing that was off limits and a deal breaker for her. So what happens when the man that you are falling for is involved in the one thing that you despise? Jaxon and Tessa definitely had chemistry and started falling for each other quickly. But when trust becomes an issue for the both of them you have to ask is love enough to overcome those issues?

Jaxon and Tessa were so good and so hot together. Jaxon may have taken things a little slow but when they are finally together it is hot and steamy. Jaxon was sexy but also sweet and loving and adorable. You could see how much he loved Tessa. Tessa was a little spitfire and I loved her. I also loved the supporting characters and can't wait to see more of Piper and Ryan. Lawful Overdose is a hot, funny, quick read. It is one of those books that you devour in one sitting and cannot put down. Wonderful job by Justine Elvira. Lawful Overdose is a must read.

After losing her sister Tessa becomes a loner in her own family. She despises anything drug related and even with hippie parents and a carefree attitude Tessa is one chick who knows what she wants. Some would call her scandalous, others a tramp. I may have seen her that way in the beginning but her promiscuous ways just allow her to lose herself and find comfort in the arms of someone else, even if it’s just for a little while.

When Tessa meets Jaxon, brother of her boss, the last thing she wants is a relationship. He gets her motor running and Tessa tries all she can to get him into bed, or the utility closet. Jaxon wholeheartedly returns Tessa’s affections however he’s not willing to jump right into bed with her if that’s all he’s going to get. Jaxon sees more in Tessa and wants her to realize he doesn’t just see her as a warm body to lose himself in.

So starts the seduction of Tessa. Jaxon continues to flip all her switches and often times leaves her far beyond the normal reaches of sexually frustrated. Since Tessa never thinks to question Jaxon’s transferring his final year of college she never suspects anything out of the ordinary. I’m sure from the title like me you get an idea of what the story will entail and in some ways I wish the title was different since it gives such a big hint away.

I was upset by how fast everything went. I feel like much of the story could have been fleshed out more, it was interesting enough that I just wanted more and to see Tessa realize more for herself. When she catches Jaxon in a lie, I honestly can’t say I blame her decision. Some may see her as overreacting but I was behind her 100%. It’s rather funny because I was unsure if I would like the story at all in the beginning but it continually got better and I extremely happy about that.

Overall I really enjoyed this book. Sure I wish it was longer and there were things I wished were given more attention but overall I felt it was a very solid and interesting read. There are, as usual, more adult topics discussed and drugs play a role but nothing that will make you think less of any of the characters. The sex was hot, the drama was intense and I will look forward to more from recent and new author Justine Elvira.

Decent read. She's a college student working in a Hooter's type establishment. He's the boss's brother who transferred for his senior year. (So we're told!) There's lots of partying and drinking. Drugs are around but we don't find our main characters using- but they ARE a major theme in the book (if you hadn't guessed from the "overdose" part of the title!)

It is a bit predictable. The title pretty much gives everything away, but it's not a bad book.

I love Tessa's stance on drugs. I love her outgoing personality. However, I do wish she would have used that inner strength she has to set things straight with her family. Or to at least not let them make her feel like crap anymore. As she does a complete 180 when she's around her parents. I can see why, but I don't agree with it. It doesn't seem to really fit with her personality.

Jaxon- he's decent up until the end. What an ASS! I kinda wanted to smack him around. I did not agree with his actions AT ALL. If you ask me- he had absolutely NO reason to be pissed at Tessa and push her away at the end. YES- he had good reasons for doing what Tessa saw him do. BUT did he ever bother explaining them to her? NO! He didn't! But of course he's a typical male and gets mad at her when she's woman enough to walk away from what she sees as a bad situation. (I say you GO GIRL!)

Things, of course, work out in the end. But only because Tessa woman's up again and goes to get her man back. When really he just needed to get his head out of his ass.

It was a decent read. Enjoyable. Nothing epic or anything like that. But something to have on your TBR list for a rainy day!!

Tessa is a college girl who lost her sister back at the age of 14. SInce that time her parents treat her like she is invisible, that is when they aren’t berating her and blaming her for her sisters death. SHe has spent the last years getting what attention she can from guys since it is the only attention she gets. She is used to being wanted for one thing and one thing only. Which has really done a number on her self esteem.

Jaxon is the brother of Tessa’s boss at the bar where she works. He has just moved into town to finish up his last year of College and to be closer to his brother. He spots Tessa the first time he visits the bar and she waits on him. It is an instant attraction. They hit it off right away. However things are fishy where Jaxon is concerned. Even though he say’s he isn’t into the drug scene he is seen multiple times with the local dealer. Then there are the times when he is suddenly called away at weird hours for work.

Tessa despises drugs and won’t have anything to do with them or anyone who uses. After all they are the reason for her sisters death. So when the discrepancies about Jaxon start piling up she doesn’t know what to believe.

This is a great book with a little bit of mystery and a lot of great sexiness !!

review to come soon I was contacted by Justine to review this book. It sounded like it would be okay so I agreed. There wasn't really anything in the synopsis that grabbed me but it didn't sound horrible so I started it and it was really good. I was surprised at how much I liked it. There were some errors but it didn't take away from the story so I overlooked them. Now, there was no huge WOW! moment or anything but it was great and I loved it. Tessa is a messed up college girl who wants to feel loved just for a few minutes the only thing is she has forgotten what that even feels like. Basically her life is school, work, and partying with her best friend. One summer day when she is at work she meets her boss' brother Jaxon who has just transferred to her school and they are pulled to each other. Of course Tessa just wants a one nightstand. You learn why Tessa is the way she is and it is a little sad and pulls at your heart. It really is good and I think everyone should read it and find out what secrets Jaxon has and can Tessa get past them? Will they get their happily ever after or will they go their own ways?

I actually liked this book.

Tessa, a college student working at a bar/restaurant as a waitress. And parties a lot. Her parents sucks. She lost her sister to drugs. So she can't stand to be around or associate w ppl who does.
Jaxon, a "transferred senior", who seems to have weird working hours. Seems to always be around Jimmy the "dealer".

They both seem to gravitate to each other rt away, even if Tessa doesn't do relationships. She finds herself wanting Jaxon more. Everything moving too fast. Things happened. Lies, confusion, drugs (don't do drugs lesson), love etc

Nothing doesn't always seems to be what it is.

I've enjoyed reading all of Justine's books and I've just added another one. A great fast read. I couldn't put it down, to the point where I forgot to do some cleaning haha :)

I loved this book. I loved the writing. I loved the unique story line. I loved all of the characters. I loved the sex scenes, they weren't overdone, they were perfect for the book. I loved Tessa and Pipers friendship.
My only complaint, I wanted more. I wanted it to be a tad longer. I wanted to know what Jaxson was thinking when he first meet Tessa that made him so sure he wanted a relationship with her. I wanted to know what made Tessa change her mind about relationships. I wanted to know what Jaxson was going through after the last party at the motel and Tessa wouldn't talk to him. I wanted more about Ryan and Piper and their relationship. I wanted more of everything!!

Between 3-4 stars

I had to start this after reading the first chapter in changing his game... This book was a fast paced, catchy fun read! The first chapter kept me hooked and I took a liking to the heroine and her best friend straight away.

Only reason why it's not more stars is the fact I guessed early on what the deal was with Jaxon and Ryan as I've read a book like this before, the fact it was short didn't bother me as sometimes I don't want a really long story dragged out and filled with to much drama and angst, sometimes i just want a fun witty, quick, hot book that keeps me intrigued, and this did that for me :)

I will read more from this author for sure.

Based on the plot and characters, I'd give this 2 or 2.5 stars. Tessa was a complicated character that read very much like the YA that she is; she is street hardened and yet naive but in a less than endearing way that left me wanting to throw my Kindle at the wall. Likewise, Jaxon's back story isn't given, so we have no explanation for his emotional responses in the story, which are inconsistent. The "twist" is predictable and the resolution unsatisfying. And yet, the writing style was good enough to make me not want to put it down. I had to get to the end to figure out if all the annoyances were worth it (and I still haven't decided if they were or not).

3.5 Enthusiastic stars - Tessa and Jaxon have a hot relationship that had the ability to build into 5 star-come back and read this book as a go to type book, but it fell flat when she dumped him. Then her way to his heart had the story building back up again, and then the book ended. Just like that with a fairytale ending. Is it possible to ask that you go back and make the ending stronger? Beef up Jaxon side of the story maybe. I really did enjoy this one, and would say don't look past it, but there were some flat parts.
