".....compelling new novel!" " ..... fast becoming a cult classic." ***** 5 Stars Doctor Indira Birwana, “Indie” to her friends, is a bright, attractive doctor living in New York, traveling the world since she had left her native India. She is called home to attend her father’s funeral and suddenly her world changes when her sister and sister’s fiancé are attacked on a bus late one night. The police call it “Eve Teasing” and dismiss it. Indie is determined not to become a victim and plots revenge as she takes matters into her own hands. The hunt is on for the lone female vigilante called the Avenger who prowls the streets of New Delhi at night exacting her own brand of vengeance against rapists. Javed Khan, a handsome, unruly cop, and Armi Kas, an up-and-coming by-the-book detective, are competing in the investigation as to the identity of the vigilante. Javed’s dark past and his strong feelings for Indie collide with his sense of duty. They are both running out of time and must make a decision. She has only one choice to make and must act soon. Will she make the right one before it is too late?
I write stories that I feel strongly about and hope that my readers will feel touched by as well. I write in different genres because the stories I feel cross all barriers. *** Love Letters- If you found a love letter in an old book, would you read it? Love Letters is the story of what happens when a woman finds a series of love letters hidden in some books she bought at a flea market. She reads them and wishes she could find the doctor who wrote them to thank him. One day she does and her life is never the same.
A Second Chance - Ravenna Morgan, after losing the love of her life, does what everyone would love to do and gets away from the day to day hectic world. She retreats to the small secluded Greek island of Petros. She has it all, a comfortable life, warm sunshine and beautiufl beaches. Until one day that changes and she realizes she may get...A Second Chance.
Indie, a Female Vigilante, was an eye-opener for me. I immediately had to rush to the computer to read about “Eve Teasing,” and was appalled at what I found. For that reason alone, this book ought to be on everyone’s reading list. The story is haunting: Dr. Indie Birwana travels to her home country of India for her father’s funeral. While there, her beloved sister is brutally raped, like thousands of other women today in India. Unlike many of the others, this attack was so violent that it spurred an uprising in the country (I assume the uprising is fictional, even though the violence is not.) Indie is caught up in the aftermath of the violence, as is Javed Khan, a “bus cop,” as they try to find justice for the victims. The plot--though a little heavy-handed at times--is excellent, and this is definitely a page-turner. It gets a little graphic at times, but since women today are suffering such liberties and abuses, it seems totally appropriate. My only complaint was that I found too much exposition and description, when I really wanted to know what happened next, as well as a few quirks with the timeline.
A compelling novel!!! It takes you through the heartwrenching terror Indie faces after her sister and boyfriend are attacked on a bus in New Delhi. With her sister fighting for her life in a hospital she plots her revenge on the predators who lurk in the streets and in the markets. She strikes back with a vengance while being pursued by two cops. Love it!!!
This story describes Indie, a young doctor visiting her former home of India after her father dies. Her sister Nita is raped and mutilated, sparking a police investigation and political protests in India, where woman are molested everywhere they go by perverts. It was a bit of an emotional read.
This novel delivers a gripping blend of crime, suspense, and moral reckoning set against the charged streets of New Delhi. Through the journey of Indira “Indie” Birwana, the story confronts violence, injustice, and the limits of institutional protection, raising difficult questions about power and accountability. As the lines blur between victim, avenger, and law enforcer, the narrative builds emotional intensity and urgency. With its strong female lead, cross-cultural perspective, and escalating tension, this book is a compelling read for those drawn to thrillers that challenge the boundaries between justice and vengeance.
Name of the book - INDIE: A FEMALE VIGILANTE Author - Bryan Mooney Publisher - BME Publishing Date - 17 January 2014 Genre - Mystery Thriller Book Length - 197 pages
It is a five star rating book.
Indie is the story of Nirbhaya as told by American author, Bryan Mooney. It is the story of a young girl. It is the story of India. It is the story of eve teasing. It is the story of a woman being raped in the Rape Capital of the country, or maybe, world.
I absolutely love the book Indie and the way it was written. The author tried to make it a bit fictional. It is so detailed. It feels so terrible what she and her friend or boyfriend had to go through and people in power has only commented that she was asking for it!! I don't even know how to review this book. This is so good and so terrible to read, at the same time. I can so understand why this book must have been banned in India.
Delhi is still a big and populated city, but Chandigarh is considered peaceful and I cannot even tell you how many times in a day, people comment on me or my friends or just any woman. This world is so cruel. I was only 12 years old when the Nirbhaya incident happened and it still gives me goosebumps. She is a hero to all women in India.
Great book, tells a wonderful story. The author takes you inside the culture where rape is common everyday practice and women are expected to just put up with it. They can't hope to get any help from the government: women should not be out late at night (8 pm) and should never dress to invite such unwanted advances. This book tells the tale of one woman who wasn't going to put up with it any longer. You're rooting for the heroine the entire book. Well done.
