“Where on God's green earth am I going to raise that sort of money? I’m a pensioner!” thought Betty. Then her eyes fell on her daughter’s copy of Fifty Shades of Grey.

65-year-old Betty had given up on her life’s ambition to write a bestselling novel. However, after walking in on her husband with a lady of the night, she finds herself single and with mounting debts. In need of a ‘get rich quick’ scheme, straight-laced Betty decides to try her hand at writing an erotic novel.

With little experience in matters of the libido, Betty finds herself ill-equipped to pursue her goal. So she sets out to acquire carnal knowledge without arousing the suspicions of her prudish friends and uptight family.

When her embittered mother-in-law finds a butt plug in the slow cooker, it seems like the game is up. Will Betty be able to prevent bankruptcy with her salacious prose before her source of income is exposed?

I downloaded this when it was free. It's definitely not an erotic story but more a mickey take of the Fifty Shades phenomenon. As someone who didn't buy into that phenomenon, I did find all references to that book amusing. It also takes the mickey out of the boom in erotic sales although I imagine this author would be ecstatic if she saw what Betty sees every morning when she logs in to see her book sales?!

This is a far fetched, slapstick style story. Betty is very naive for her 65 years and I'm not sure I believed she could be quite that naive considering she was computer savvy and changed within days from a weak to a strong woman! However, it has obviously been written by the author with her tongue firmly in cheek!

I laughed at how Betty typed a question into the search engine saying 'please'! Muriel the dreaded mother in law was funny! I would have liked to have Betty's husband feature a bit more and read what he thought of Betty's success! I feel there is scope for another edition to this story catching up with Betty...maybe her finding her very own Richmond/Ricardo?!

If you want a laugh, download this book.

Witty, filthy and outrageous comedy hits the spot!

For anyone who's ever found erotic fiction funny, My Granny Writes Erotica will have you rocking back and forth in open-mouthed pleasure.

Pensioner Betty needs to make a lot of money quick, to support her family without letting them realise just how bad things are financially. A life-long frustrated writer who's been working on the same romantic novel for 20 years, she can't rely on her book sales. Unless she's selling the sort of filthy, pornographic smut that everyone - even her own daughter - seems compelled to read these days...

There's an enormous amount to enjoy in watching an elderly, naive woman struggle to cope with the full-on perversions that are so acceptable in erotica. Betty's scenes with the appropriately-named Scarlett are especially good, where she gains an education in titillation. And I'll be amazed if Google doesn't start getting searches for My Ickle Pony Tail™ from more than a few readers...

Personally, if this novella had been twice as long I would have continued to enjoy it, and if anything its brevity is my only complaint. As Scarlett would no doubt tell us, bigger and thicker is always better. Especially with Rosen Trevithick's books!

I've read a few of this author's books before and they have always entertained, she does humour very well, but this latest title from her is the best yet. It even had me laughing out loud, which is rare for me!

The story concerns a grandmother called Betty, she has been writing her romance book for many years and has been constantly rejected. At the same time her marriage crumbles leaving her in severe debt with her mother-in-law, her daughter and her granddaughter to look after. She needs money desperately and hits upon the idea of writing an erotic novel for some quick money.

Naturally things don't go quite as expected and from that premise hilarity ensues. This is a very funny book, Betty's exploration in to hardcore BDSM is brilliantly done. The mother-in-law's occasional appearance also spices things up and the early scene with her and a bruiser was my first big chuckle of the story.

As with some of the author's other stories it pokes some fun at writers and publishing, although there's humour throughout it's also a solid story. As ever the writing is well constructed and flows nicely, making this a quick, but excellent read.

I'm pleased to hear that there will be a sequel, so I'll be looking out for that.

This was a surprise for me, once again a writer who I am not familiar with, but what a pleasure to read. Plenty of humour throughout the book, but not overdone. Wonderful characters, a couple of who I am sure that I might know, or have met.
This novella follows a 65 year old pensioner, Betty Berry, as her world slowly falls apart around her ears. All she really wants to do is continue to write her romance novel, which she has been working on for 20 years. Unfortunately circumstances mean her writing has to take a different direction, even though at 65 she is still rather naive.
A nice tongue in cheek parody on the erotica genre, with some surprising results.

I read this book on holiday, which is exactly where you should read it. It's a fun quick light read which will have you laughing out loud in places. Great fun, guaranteed to raise a chuckle. I particularly enjoyed the things our heroine types into google to research her writing.

A delightful bit of light whimsy, well worth your time.

Saw this book and was intrigued by the title - didn't think I'd enjoy it -but it was a laugh out loud book and the main character, Betty, was brilliant.

There are very few books that have made me truly laugh out loud, this novella is one of them. The premise is that Betty finds herself in debt, big debt, her husband neglected to say he had been made redundant a year ago and their savings were gone, and their bank account severely overdrawn and a loan shark was knocking on their door, but that was not the worst of it following her errant husband she finds where he has been spending his days, with a lady of the night in a somewhat compromised position.

Betty put me in mind of a Hyacinth Bucket type middle-class well to do status conscious middle aged lady, living in a leafy suburban four bedroomed house with her mother-in-law and estate agent husband, days are spent caring for the household, attending the local country club, and meeting with the ladies of the literarily group. She is 'proper' and thus moaned and criticised by her nearest and [almost] dearest.

As Betty throws out her husband and their daughter arrives stating she has left her boring partner, daughter brings with her to read the latest smash "50 shades of grey", just a few captured sentences sends Betty's blush level to scarlet. Needing money and fast Betty talks herself into writing a story and it seems alternate bedroom acrobatics are the dish de jour. But there is a flaw in her plot, namely she knows very little about sex, let alone anything remotely kinking connected to rumpy pumpy; she types into the internet "Show me a free pornographic film, please" [I did say she was proper]. Where her mouse takes her is a journey of hilarity and misdirection.

The chaos that ensues is worthy of any TV situation comedy. Her innocent and naive writing goes viral and she suddenly there are thousands of fans desperately waiting for the next chapter.

I found this really so enjoyable and comfortable that I will definitely be buying the sequel!

'My Granny Writes Erotica' is the very funny title of this very funny novella. Betty, at a late stage of her life, finds herself alone after her husband is unfaithful with a prostitute. Poor Betty is left behind with a load of debts and a wickedly funny mother-in-law. Betty’s reluctant solution is to turn her hand to writing erotic fiction in the hope that it will become a bestseller like 'Fifty Shades of Grey'.

I raced through this book and found it terribly funny. The characterisation is excellent. Leading the cast, Betty is a lovely comic creation; she grabs the sympathy of the reader while still remaining wildly funny. She constantly strives for middle to upper class values and this makes her getting to grips with all manner of sex toys and the art of writing erotica all the more funny. For me, Muriel, the mother-in-law, was possibly even funnier than Betty herself, always sticking her nose in and putting her daughter-in-law down. The scenes featuring both Betty and Muriel are comic bliss.

I also enjoyed the knowing commentary on self-publishing. I recognised and chuckled at Betty's frustrations and experience in going it alone in the publishing world. Does Betty triumph? As if I'd say here; you’ll have to read it for yourself! The book does contain brief descriptions of sexual acts but it is always laced with humour. Betty’s disbelief that such things are possible are a joy to watch unfold! As long as you’re not a total prude, you’ll love this entertaining book. I believe a sequel is to be written following its success. Great!

65 year old Betty Berry discovers her husband has got them into a lot of debt, after she kicks him out a debt collector turns up at her door demanding money. Betty realises she needs to make money fast and after finding her daughters copy of Fifty Shades of Grey decides to write an Erotic novel.

This story had me roaring laughing from beginning to end! It’s hilarious to the point where I had to put the book down because I couldn’t see the screen for my tears and this happened a few times. The incident in the kitchen with the My Ickle Pony Tail had me curled up so I didn’t wet myself.
It’s one of the best page turners I’ve read so far and I would definitely recommend to others.
I loved it so much I’ve bought my friend a copy for her to read 
When I read the synopsis I knew I had to buy the book and I was certainly not disappointed it’s worth every penny. From the first chapter this book will have you hooked :D

This is the first book I’ve read by Rosen Trevithick but it definitely won’t be the last. Her characters are amazing as is her writing. It’s impossible not to love Betty her reactions to situations are so funny and extremely realistic. This story is fast paced and I loved the British humour in particular Betty’s phrases such as Gordon Bennett and Flaming Nora to mention a few.
Thank you Rosen for sharing your fantastic story I loved, loved, loved it!!!

I was so intrigued by the basis of the story that I decided to give it a go whilst making dinner over the weekend. Well this was a bad idea, because I managed to overcook the pasta and burn the sauce! The story was a gut-splitting, fantastically silly and hilariously good read you will want to keep going to the end. If your hoping for some really good erotica, this is not for you. However if you are looking for some fun, some really good laughs and this satirical look at just who is behind the writing of erotica romance you will most certainly enjoy this.

The writing itself is very nicely done and paints a great picture of the each of the eccentric characters. The main protagonist, Betty immediately reminded me of Hyacinth Bucket pronounced "Bouquet" of course. Those of you who are fans of BBC britcoms will recognise Patricia Routeledge's character from Keeping Up Appearances television show from the 1990's. Just try to imagine the middle-aged, middle-class, appearances conscious British housewife trying her hand at writing Erotica.
I'm hoping she will bring all the characters back for future books!

Five stars!

My Granny Writes Erotica Threesome
By Rosen Trevithick

I received this book as a giveaway from Goodreads. The story begins with Betty, a grandmother, whose mother-in-law lives with her, finding out that her husband has been lying to her. He has lost his job, run up a lot of debt and been visiting a prostitute. What Betty does and the way she tries to rebuild her life is the basis of this story.
This is a well written book which had me laughing as I read it. If you are looking for a book to read on holiday this is a winner. It is light hearted, funny and definitely different. It certainly surprised me, not being what I was expecting.
The characters are well described often quirky and always entertaining. The situations are sometimes unusual but always vividly described bringing them to life with a superb use of language.
I look forward to more from Rosen as her writing is a breath of fresh air.

I admit, I purchased a copy of this book because it was free, and a friend had recommended it on Facebook. After hearing how funny said friend found it, I put down my current read to start this. This first thing I learned was that this is not a book to read on the bus, mainly because of all the times I caught myself laughing like an idiot every five minutes. The second thing I learned was just how great this book is. Immediately I fell in love with Betty and Muriel (I loved the banter between the two), and found that the main character and her reasoning for moving genre was great.

With some of the situations this little housewife, mother and grandmother was getting herself into, I thought I knew whats was coming, only for the author to surprise me or have me laughing a little more than I had expected.

I really hope the author is planning on revisiting Betty, because I would love to see how she reacts with fame and penning a new book. If there is a sequel, I am happy to pay :-)

I've been looking forward to reading this for ages and when it was available to download, I clicked on buy immediately. This has Rosen's brand of affectionate humour with some great set pieces that had me laughing out loud. It is also a funny parody for the current fashion of erotic fiction; and of My Little Pony ...

Betsy has financial worries and must turn her hand to writing erotic fiction in order to pay the bills. Some of the characters were suitably annoying; the demanding mother in law and spoilt daughter were great fun. I loved the character of Scarlett, she should appear more often!

I read this in one sitting and I didn't want to stop until I'd got to the end. I do wonder if there was scope to make this longer, but even so, I enjoyed it. I fun read and definitely worth downloading.

This is the first book by Rosen that I have read, and what a read it was!

Betty finds herself having to make a lot of money. She thought her life was simple and uncomplicated. Little does she know that her life is about to change and take a totally different direction.

In order to make this money she decides to have a go at writing erotic fiction. However, she has been working on her novel for 21 years and her book group are less than enthusiastic about it.

Will she be able to write about a subject she knows practically nothing about? Will she be able to keep the wolves from her door? What will her family think and what will her book group think?

This is a great short read and there are plenty of laugh out loud moments.

I look forward to reading more of Rosen's work, although I don't think they will be as racy.

What can I say - absolutely the best novella called 'My Granny Writes Erotica' of 2013!

No seriously, I wrote this book and apparently reviewing your own books on Goodreads is the new black.

Is it arrogant to give my own book five stars? Perhaps. But I'm a firm believer that if the author doesn't feel a book is worth readying, it shouldn't be out there.

I thoroughly enjoyed writing this tale. I must have edited it at least three times and could never get through the slow cooker scene without bursting into laughter. I do most of my writing in cafes - customers must have thought I was insane.

Q. Will Betty me back in a sequel or longer adaptation of the story?
A. I'm giving it some thought. I certainly enjoy working with these characters.

A cracking little novella that can be read in a couple of hours, ideal for anyone who has ever wondered just who writes those erotic novels on Amazon. Betty, who would certainly class herself as a Lady with a capital L, has been writing and rewriting a novel for the past 20 years but when needs dictate, she decides to revamp her "baby" as an erotic serial a la 50 Shades. The fun starts when she has to try and keep it a secret from her mother in law and daughter, as well as try to work out what these strange sex toys that arrive in the post are used for, and how she can incorporate them into her book.

This is a story definitely for adults, not offensive in any way, despite the subject matter, just a very well written, smashing little read which is smuttily funny.

Betty’s life suddenly collapses when she finds out that she and her husband, Rodney, are in debt and that he has been deceiving her. For twenty years Betty has been working on a novel which looks as though it will never be finished and has already been rejected by many publishers. The crisis in her life galvanises Betty into action and she turns to – erotica.

I loved this book and I read it in one sitting (maybe not the best choice of words in this context!) It’s funny and feel good and makes gentle fun of stereotypes and prejudices. It wasn’t the book I had it in mind to read last night but I’m glad I did read it. Once I’d started reading I had to know how the indomitable Betty was going to solve her problems. This is a marvellously entertaining read and I recommend it.

Could help but laugh (and cringe)

Worst thing is my mum (nearly 60) saw how much I enjoyed this book and wants to read it next, just hope she doesn't want to discuss butt plugs and 'exotic' hotels with me afterwards

Loved parts 1 & 3, but didn't warm to Betty in the middle she came across as a snob, but such funny situation she finds herself in

There are so many dull books about middle age couples divorcing or seeking comfort elsewhere, but this was anything but dull and was such light relief

I will be looking out for the next instalment of Betty's life. I would love to see Muriel go internet dating next such as tinder or plenty of fish - loved her character

If your looking for a giggle this is a must read book

When I first saw the title of this book I thought "No way, this book isn't for me" .... but since it was being offered for free on Amazon I decided I would try it - I mean I wouldn't be out anything if I didn't like it, right? Well, I am glad I gave it a shot .... because as they say "never judge a book by it's cover"!!! It was a fun read & I absolutely fell in love with the characters!! Which is why I immediately BOUGHT the second book!! I sure hope the author writes a third - so I can find out what happens .... does Betty finally have a happily ever after?? Good work & I would recommend to anyone who enjoys a light funny read!!

Who needs a feather duster? This book tickled my fancy from start to finish!
The premise of Betty (think Hyacinth Bucket) writing erotica to earn some much needed cash to enable her to continue living her (Keeping Up Appearances) lifestyle had me in stitches. The vivid descriptions of various scenes conjured up such lurid images in my mind I am still smiling days after finishing the book. I hope we see more of this unique character.
In truth this work is such a tonic it should be available on prescription!

I spotted this when it was being offered as free on Amazon.

OMG! It is brilliantly hilarious! I seriously couldn't stop laughing out loud.

Betty discovers her husband has not only lied about losing his job, but also that he has a penchant for visiting prostitutes in suburbia.

To try and ease her debt worries, she not only decides to write an erotic novel, but to also become a sex toy reviewer to help with her research. The results are so funny, I snorted. Also, I won't be making lamb stew in a while!

Definitely worth a read even if it isn't free!

I was lucky enough to win a copy of the threesome edition of this book and thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I think that Betty Berry has become my all time favourite literary heroine. Poor Betty tries so hard to be respectable and sophisticated but everything she does goes horribly wrong. I particularly liked the ever increasing catalogue of disasters at her garden party, culminating in the pretty rose bunting turning into 'luminous willies' as soon as it began to get dark. I'd recommend this to anyone who'd like a good laugh and doesn't mind that it's a bit 'naughty'.

Well that was certainly interesting, and had me laughing in spots. Definately a funny shrt read. Can't imagine a 65 year old woman writing anal erotica, then teaming up with the hooker the husband cheater in her with, and her 83 year old mother in law hitting the loan shark over the head with a glass butt plug. HA HA HA, oh the slow cooker scene was hillarious, I will always laugh now when I use my slow cooker.

Hilarious !
I really enjoyed this funny short story of how a woman of a certain age deals with a sea change in her circumstances and attitude ! The characters were good, especially Muriel the mother in law,and it made me chuckle. I liked the way the author 'took the mick' out of the explosion in the sales of erotic novels and 'fifty shades' in particular. And, as another reviewer said, I will never look at Lamb Stew the same way again!

I won a copy of the 'Threesome' edition (containing 3 novellas) in a Goodreads giveaway.

This was one of the funniest books I've read, and found myself laughing out loud at some of the situations 'Granny' found herself in. Although there are 3 separate novellas the story does follow on and it fits together well as a complete book.

Would thoroughly recommend this book to anyone who wants an easy read and a good laugh!

I had a great time reading this installment of the series. It was witty, surprising and incredibly funny. Ms. Trevithick turns what could have been a very depressing situation into one that is full of laughter, surprise and empowerment. The characters were well-developed with personalities that come across quite well.

I would certainly recommend this book to anyone looking for a good laugh that isn't concerned about the erotic content.

This novella is VERY funny!
Betty needs to raise money, but has not made a success of her writing career thus far. She finds a copy of her daughter's '50 shades' book and embarks on a voyage of discovery resulting in hilarious scenes leading to literary success at last.
This book is suitable for Adults only and made me laugh out loud a lot!

Not my normal sort of read (I bet lots have said or thought that) but I've heard Rosen T is a good writer. And she is. She's inventive, funny, and the book is well produced. Characters become real and I started to wonder if there were any grannies who'd really turned to writing erotica or porn to cover debts! A talented writer (not the granny).

The laughing off of one's ass does not often come along with the frequency we would hope. So, if your ass is in need of an all-too-infrequent laugh off, read this book. I am, at present, currently ass-less.
