Cute and fun second volume, with a bit of over-the-top silliness (what was up with Boyoyo?) and a few optimistic life lessons ("Your father loved you!!!"), as well as a bit of a beginning of a bigger arc about evil guilds, unless I'm mistaken.

I'm enjoying the translation notes at the end - I'd love to be able to do that on the books I work on (maybe I should ask people to let me do it...), as well as the author's notes at the end, about how he hopes he'll get to volume three and volume ten is a long way away - which are really funny when you know the series is already 63 volumes long and ongoing.

He also says he hasn't planned things out - and, to be honest, you can tell. There aren't any subtle hints, like the ones Hiromu Arakawa inserted from the very beginning of "Fullmetal Alchemist", nor do you get the feeling of a coherent story. Buuuut, this is only 2 volumes in, I'm sure he started figuring things out once he realized his series wouldn't be cancelled, haha.

The second volume in Fairy Tail was not as exciting as the first one but still pretty great in its own right. I feel like my rating is justified. For anyone who is familiar with the anime, it starts with the Everlue arc and ends with the hint of the Eisenwald arc. Or well, through part of it. The remaining will probably be touched in the third volume.

What I liked the most about this volume was how it kept the spirit of Fairy Tail alive and gave us a huge insight into how the various magics work. Lucy's celestial magic, for example. Or Natsu's fire magic. What's more is that this volume saw the formation of the guild's strongest team ever! Not the strongest wizards, per se (because anyone who knows the series well enough knows that Mystogan and Gildarts and Laxus are a lot stronger) but as a team, definitely! That is also something that scared Master Makarov but we'll come to that later (in the next volume, probably).

Overall, I think the arc concerning Duke Everlue was the highlight of the book. Yes, the Eisenwald situation was pretty deadly and frightening and scary, but it wasn't completed yet. And I think it would have been a lot better had it had an entire volume to its own self. Nonetheless, I hope to see more of Titania, Gray, Natsu, Lucy and Happy in the future as they fight against Eisenwald. I'd love to see how they end up defeating the lot. Because of course, they will, won't they?

I like how there is a strong female character introduced early in the series and is not a villain. Erza is the strongest and scariest woman of the guild. She isn't just kickass; she is also morally sound and admirable. Of course, as per manga laws, she must be dressed in a way that checks the fanservice box.

As much as I hate fan service, I must say that this manga caters to a variety of audience. Shonen fan service usually features scantily clad beautiful girls. What is different about Fairy Tail is that it also features a guy and some women who would not traditionally be called beautiful.

This volume took me forever to finish. I don’t really want to move onto volume 3, but I bought it as part of a bundle off Facebook marketplace so I guess I’ll see where it goes. I just don’t like the characters and their dialogue. Everything just feels clunky.

Unfortunately, Natsu good as its predecessor.

A notice has appeared on the board, the task, burn the novel daybreak, the one of a kind masterpiece. An easy enough objective, but for Natsu and company they manage to make even the easy tasks incredibly difficult. However, with Lucy in a maid costume destined to infiltrate the Everlue mansion they may be able to withstand the goddess of wheat and agriculture, and the master inside. Bo yo yo yo!

"Let's get one thing straight. You guy's aren't contributing partners in this mission... so we'll be splitting this 80%, 10%, 10%."
"Lucy! You'll be satsfied with just 10%?!"
"MINE IS THE 80% SHARE!!!"

We are introduced to many more Fairy Tail guild characters, Loke the VERY lovable wizard, Ms Scarlet the killer queen who's guaranteed to blow your mind and who can forget Gray's under garments... multiple times. Of course you can't have the guild demolishing entire villages without consequences, that is where the ten members of the magic council comes in, there to ensure the link in the chain is handled properly or else... the dark ones appear.

Going where the wind blows will lead you directly within reach of a lullaby set to lure anyone into an everlasting sleep. The only problem for Natsu and co ... transportation.

As Always...

A ton of fun. Fairy tail is very entertaining, and I love how weird all the characters are! I've watched the first season and a half before starting to read these, and this volume seemed significantly more disjointed than the corresponding episodes of the show. It was a little harder to follow, but still just flat out enjoyable all the way through. Can't wait to read volume 3 which my brother kindly bought for me!

DAYBREAK ARC
1. making other people regret their actions = hiding their shoes

2. it kind of irks me that the plan is "destroy the book and you get 2 million jewels" and then, when they have the book and can just EASILY burn it, lucy steps in to say no. this is....usually the recipe for disaster

3. also it says a lot about natsu that he explicitly doesn't want to lie. he doesn't want to hide anything about himself or what he thinks, he wears his heart on the sleeve (he is also cocky as hell)

4. i need those reading glasses of lucy's

EISENWALD ARC - PART 1
1. omg, the light pen is amazing, you can write into air with it!!! i love it

2. natsu and gray playing friends because of erza, im DEAD, she's got them by the throat (and rightfully so)

3. great black wizard zeref, eh?

3.5/5 Another solid volume. Not amazing but still good. Still fun. Lucy, Happy, and Natsu go on a job to steal a book. This covers the first half of the volume. This parts just another fun introductory Arc.

After returning we are introduced to Ezra. A powerful Fairy Tail mage and gorgeous Waifu. Our gang is then paired up with Ezra and Gray to go investigate a "Black Guild" a group of assassins who have obtained a powerful magic item.

The gang outside the guild building on the cover of volume 2.

Let's make like a certain YouTube gnome and get riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigt into the review! (Except it's not really a review it's mostly just my thoughts on a few things.)

If you've caught up to Fairy Tail 2014 you might've caught up enough to get to an arc that introduces the existance of "treasure hunter" guilds. Normally this is pretty bad storytelling--to go hundreds of episodes without ever mentioning the fact that there are other kinds of guilds and then expect viewers to just go along with it when poof all of a sudden there's a new type of guild. I know I myself was thrown off by it, but then again it is Fairy Tail which isn't exactly known for its impeccable storytelling, so I didn't question it too much. But now having read this second volume of the manga, I've learned that it wasn't actually Hiro Mashima's fault (the creator of Fairy Tail), but the anime adaptor's.

Now, I don't know if maybe I'm misremembering the anime or not, but I don't remember no "Vanishing Brothers", okay? These brothers are actually part of a "bodyguard" guild. So if the anime skipped these guys then that's where that particular bit of worldbuilding went. If they actually are in the anime and I actually just forgot about them then my point kind of goes out the window, but I do feel relatively secure in my memory of the beginning of the anime. There are also other times when characters mention trade guilds or other types of guilds, so yeah all this is established pretty early in the manga. Bad on you anime.

So yeah, this volume shows the entirety of "The Book of Secrets" arc, and starts up the "Lullaby" arc. The former going pretty much as expected. Except I don't remember that Kageyama guy. Whatever.

I strongly suggest listening to the Fairy Tail Original Soundtrack Volume 1 while reading this, especially the fight music during the fight scenes. It's quite enjoyable.

Fairy Tail takes place in a world that is a sort of schizo version of ours. It has a folks dressing in fashions from many different eras, trains exist, and other things so far that seem to place this at no specific era, but a purely fun, fantasy world.

In this world we have our hero and heroine. Well, our main hero and heroine, as this manga starts with loads of characters, and it wouldn't surprise me if it just got worse from there. Anyways, introduced in the first volume, we have our main hero Natsu and main heroine Lucy.

In the first volume they met when Natsu saved Lucy and inducted her into the guild of which he is a member, "Fairy Tail". Obviously, this is the reason of the manga's title. They had a few adventures which continue on into this one, basically two short, but rather simple, story arcs.

About midway through this volume is where the first truly serious arc appears to be starting. Erza, the most powerful member of Fairy Tail, whom everyone fears, come asking for help. She is onto a case of a "dark guild" that is out to cause serious trouble, though she doesn't know what that trouble would be yet. A "dark guild" is a guild that refuses to obey the laws by doing numerous evil activities including assassination. Because of this, they are banned and declared illegal.

Lucy is eventually roped into this to help mediate on the mission between Natsu and another wizard he fights with a lot, both of whom were chosen by Erza for the mission.

This manga so far is quite interesting. Some might dislike the fanservice, as the mangaka gives a lot of glimpses of the attractive garb of the characters. but then again, he also does the uber-muscular guys showing off pecs, so it is kinda fair in that department.

I hear that some think he goes too far in the future chapters/volumes with this, but we'll see. In general, I like the world-building, the magic systems he comes up with for characters, as well as the characters themselves. Erza, Natsu and Lucy are a hoot. And Happy, the talking-cat is funny in his interactions with Lucy.

Highly Recommended.

The first thing that struck me about “Fairy Tail” is its high-octane art style that serves up every comic expression like a bullet. Think “One Piece,” but with magic guilds, not pirates.
Each page of this steampunk fantasy series bursts with life, and there’s rarely a lull in the action or comedy, which makes these two volumes fast-paced reads. The characters are either instantly likeable or intriguing.
Lucy, a young wizard who’s not bashful about using her well-endowed, ahem, assets to get her way, desperately wants to join the Fairy Tail guild, famous for its powerful sorcerers and also for its overly enthusiastic response to dangerous criminals — i.e. extensive property damage.
Lucy runs into Natsu, who saves her from trouble and who then needs a rescue of his own. Little does she realize, Natsu is from Fairy Tail, and her good deed earns her a ticket to her dream.
Although “Fairy Tail” keeps the story light-hearted, there appears to be a lot of depth to our motley comic heroes just waiting to be explored.
Volumes 1 and 2 are out now, both of them sure bets.

The introduction of Erza and more, it's a fun one to go back to once finishing the series as there are so many nuances and art style choices that Mashima decides to drop later on that are on full display here. It's also the first team up between the later most prominent Fairy Tail group; Team Natsu. Honestly only a four because of Erza, it's not bad by any means, but it does come off better as a re-read.

I laughed out loud at Lucy's horror when she realized what the villain had been up to, but was still frequently annoyed by the fan service. *sigh* If Mashima would just tone it down a little...

I started reading The Way of Kings and Assassin's Apprentice so I wasn't able to read my graphic novels borrowed from Kindle Unlimited so I corrected that and finished 3 in a row. This would be the second one, this one was another adventure for Natsu, Happy, and Lucy and we meet another new member of the guild Erza. The book was fun and as the structure is one adventure is added and another story is started in each book. So let's go and keep on reading.

I have always loved comics, and I have I can. I love comics to bits, may the comics never leave my side. I loved reading this and love reading more, you should also read what you love and hope always to love them. Even though I grew up reading local Indian comics like Raj Comics, Diamond Comics, or even Manoj Comics, now's the time to catch up on international and classic comics and Graphic novels. I am on my quest to read as many comics as I just want to Keep on Reading.

Run art, clichéd story.

World: Art is growing on me, the large emotions make me giggle. The world building is solid, it's not to deep and heavy but you can tell that it's be thought about and there is some order to it. I like that the guild is slowly through visuals being built for the reader.

Story: Solid Shonen read with a new mission and a new story. Fairly episodic at this moment and we are still in the introductory part of the tale where new characters come quick. I like the banter and interaction. The stuff with dark guilds is also a good foil for fighting. Nothing super new but it's solid.

Characters: Ezra has cool armor and I love that. Her character is a trope of thw genre as is the ice dude so nothing new here. Good interaction they plays well on comedy.

Solid but tropey.

Onward to the next book!

Fairy Tail, Vol. 2 (My Kindle Review)

“FT” is really becoming a load of thrills that’s only getting more exciting. Lucy, Natsu and Happy go on a mission, with a lucrative pay, where they must retrieve and destroy a book from a egotistical duke and she learns of a sad family secret within its pages. We get to meet a couple more of the other FT members like tough Gray Fullbuster, who matches Natsu in attitude and personality, and red haired beauty Erza Scarlet who’s a real no-nonsense knight. They all accompany Erza on her mission involving a deadly sound that can kill, but Natsu ends up getting separated from them during their travels, but manage to meet up again and find the ones who plan to use the sound for their own evil plans. ⭐️

While I prefered volume one, this was still still yet exceptionally entertaining. I loved the additional characters being introduced however I didn't find the villains to be as good as volume one but it gives us some more depth into the world. It was fun to witness the mission which Erza, Natsu, Gray and Lucy were thrown into in the volume. Already started Volume three.
