Can Catherine accept the consequences of a great-aunt's dying wish without losing her heart or independence?

CATHERINE MORNELLI, a veterinarian who’s occasional stray, injured, needy animal, has grown into Four Hooves and Paws Rescue. The four horses she rescued are located in South-central Minnesota and where she keeps them is for sale. A need to relocate is immanent and she calls her Great-Aunt Elaine to inquire about the possible use of her barn. Making plans to visit over the weekend means seeing her ex-boyfriend.

JOSEF GARRISON farms land that has been passed down through the family generations in Northeastern Minnesota, and he wants the land Elaine owns. His great-grandfather lost the land in a poker bet to Catherine’s great-grandfather.

Living her own romance story is what inspired Jody to write romance novels because it was never her dream to become a writer. Jody left a job opportunity in a different state because she met a man and fell in love. After losing her real-life law enforcement hero of nearly 30 years, she is finding her way back to the world of writing romance.

Based on her life’s experiences and journey, Jody lives by the belief, “We may not understand why something happens, but the higher power does. And he has plans for us that we don’t know about.” In short, this is Jody’s life—met a man and got engaged after knowing each other for three months, having to leave a job and become a stay at home mother, become a writer and published author, surprise four-year post-vasectomy baby, and the untimely loss of her beloved husband. It is after each event that she would learn the purpose as to why they happened. Although, Jody is waiting for the reason to present itself on the last loss.

Jody spends time at the soccer field watching her youngest and favorite MLS team, the Minnesota United FC, play. In her youth, Jody enjoyed reading V.C. Andrews' the Dollanganger series (starting with Flowers in the Attic), S.E. Hinton, and Stephen King to name a few. As an adult, her list of authors and choice in genres have broadened.

Jody and her husband were lucky enough to travel to the Bahamas and Florida, and drive through many states on their way to Quantico, Virginia. They took their three children on a Disney cruise to the Bahamas. She has also visited Montana and Cancun, Mexico. All of these experiences have inspired her stories.

Rescue Me is a semi short story about Catherine needing a barn to use, so she goes to her great aunts house to use hers. She hasn't been back to her great aunt's farm in ten years. She also hasn't seen her ex-boyfriend in that long either. As soon as she gets back she has some major problems. One her ex-boyfriend is trying to be in the picture. And two, tragedy strikes.

Now Catherine may lose her farm to her ex boyfriend Joe, if she doesn't marry with in ninety days. Catherine isn't sure what she should do now. She and Joe seem to be the perfect match because they have something they both want a part of the farm. The problem is there are some secrets being kept, and lies being told. Not only that but Catherine isn't sure if she should marry Joe, especially if he lied to her.

This book was a somewhat short story in my opinion. It has a nice story line. But I just didn't like either of the main characters. I felt like they were both sort of shallow. And I hated how they lied to each other, and did hurtful things. It really bothered me a lot. So over all the book was okay. It was a nice short read. And I loved the animals in the book, they made the story more interesting!

Catherine is a vet with a huge heart. Rescuing strays is not just a hobby for her. It's her life and her dream. Her past and her aunt's will leave her in a position to have part of what she wants. Josef has the other part. Rekindling the past could lead to the future that they both want. A great heartwarming book of second chances and forgiveness.

Minnesota author writes a romance set in Minnesota. Cat, a young veterinarian, visits her great-aunt, only to wake up mid-visit to find her aunt passed away in the night. In her will, Cat learns that her aunt left her and her former boyfriend (now a neighbor and renter of her aunt's) some things in her will. The story is quick moving. Characters are likeable.
