A sad yet uplifting story starting with what a father will do for their dying daughter.
When her family finds out she is dying just after her 12th birthday, her father who is a lawyer starts a process to be allowed to be a donor.......one problem......no doctor wants to take his heart and be charged with murder.
So her father kills himself.in the emergency room on her 14th birthday.
13 years later she's still trying to understand so she takes a break from her life and rents a cabin in the middle of nowhere to try and write.a book about it all. There she meets Matt and his sister Amy who has her own horrific father/daughter story. She slowly falls for Matt. But does he live up the expectations she's put on a man.......to be just like her dad. In the end he is willing to die for her......and he does.
It made me laugh and cry and I felt angry at Heather Meyer for finally making this character realise she loved Matt, then taking him away. A nice feel good read with a bit of sadness thrown in for good measure

Contains spoilers I don't know what rating to give this book now. By default I usually give books that end sadly for the most part a bad rating cause I hate sad endings we have too much of that in reality and I read books to escape that kind of thing. I think why did Matt have to die why couldn't be that stupid doobie guy that I had no emotional investment in. It was nice that heather had conceived a child which left a part of Matt with her. The story was so sad and mournful yet inspiring. Losing a parent at any age is hard but when if happens when your a child is worse. I really felt all the emotions the main characters went through. Also I so hate guns and bad cops so many innocent people did daily because of people misusing them or going crazy and causing mass panic with them. I will never own one because they cause to much destruction and heartache when they get into the wrong hands.

Amy comes to a small South Carolina town to come to terms with her father's memory. He deserted her when she was 14. She meets Matt Porter and they come together through the tune on a music box. Will they stay together or will Matt leave or will Amy leave? Amy decides to write a book about her experiences so that her daughter Mattie will understand later.

This was free on Amazon and a great story. I can't wait to see her next book. I loved the many taboo subjects it touched on. Society becomes more empathetic as a result of exploring these topics, making them real for others. She added everything! Pets, family dynamics, search for self, parental love, neighbors, property, cooking, tough life choices and their value. Mystery and small Enjoyed it so much!

This story was sad but very sweet. Heather was lost and trying to find herself after her father's death. It was nice to see how Matt helped her to find love. I really liked Amy's character also. The mystery part was a little predictable but well written. Overall I loved and would recommend the book, but I would encourage you to have tissue around when you do.

This is a tearjerker. I wasn't expecting the sad ending. I thought it was a romance, and a romance by definition has a happy-ever-after (or at least a happy-for-now) ending. The entire book was high on emotion, but it wasn't depressing until the end. Ironically, there were some editing issues, while the heroine is a writer and a grammar nerd.

Grab a tissue, your going to need it...

I honestly thought they would have their happily ever after. Was totally shocked with how things ended for this lady, but I guess that's what makes for a wonderful book. Can't wait to read more of her writing......Loved it !!!!

Good book

Overall good read. Not to long, another love story. With a twist ending. Noticed a few misspelled words. Not sure if from my devise or from book. Either way, kinda bothered me. A little unprofessional.

Didn't enjoy reading it.

This was choppy and poorly written. I like a story that lets me be a part of it. This book didn't do that.

Short Sweet Story

The Music Box by Heather Meyer is short, sweet story about Heather, a young woman who has taken time off work to stay in a cabin on a lake in small town South Carolina to write a book, her father’s story, fourteen years after his great sacrifice for her. Instead of just finding the words for her book she finds something far greater, something she avoided for so long.

Heather went for seclusion and met two people within her first 24 hours. One of those two people is Matt, the handyman for the property rental management. At first she appears to have little time to write. It seems they see each other everyday, even when she is just out running errands in town. But perhaps it was just the way the story was written. The development of their relationship, something Heather is slow to accept and at first pushes back against, turns out to be what she needs to help her write her story. It also helps Matt by having a fresh voice and outside point of few of his current state and dreams of his future. Matt’s sister Amy also plays an important role in the story.

From the beginning is a daily play by play; I woke up, took my meds, watched the sun rise, took a jog, but then developed from there. instead of starting the book with Heather renting the cabin, how about the drive to the cabin, and what lead her to that point? Although I enjoyed the characters, some of the side characters could have played more of a role in the story; added more depth. I struggled with some of the choppy scene transition, and at times the transition between chapters. There were numerous grammatical errors, even though the main character is a writer and stickler on grammar. I felt Meyer wrote a beautiful story and the setting was lovely, however it felt unfinished by the things I noted above. I would be willing to give this author another try, hopefully Matt’s story.

OMG. Nothing prepared me to what I was about to get into while, and after, reading this book!
And I was told that it was an "easy read" love story novel (it is!), but never did I expect that it was so an emotional ride of a story. It hit me and I was unprepared (I didn't have tissues with me!). Love and loss.....the most heartbreaking experience in life. But life is no loss when the one you love may live. It is a bitter pain that breaks you. But it is in pain, bitter-sweet at the same time, could you understand what sacrifice is and uplifts you in time. That Sacrifice cannot be in vain. That it is indeed "far better to die for something, than to die for nothing." The greatest love of all.

I wanted to give this 2.5 stars, since 2 seems a little low but 3 is definitely too many, at least for my tastes. There were moments that were good, but the overall story, while original in its general premise, was full of clichéd and trite moments and dialogue. The pace of the story was also not really believable. Finally, the author could have used another pass or two from an editor to catch all spelling and grammar errors.

I've definitely read worse, but was disappointed that this book didn't really live up to its potential.

Author needs to take a grammar class. Acknowledgements in the front thank person for pointing out a lot of errors. Apparently author didn't bother to correct them or the book was unreadable at that time. There are so many missing words, misspelled/misused words, and bad punctuation; it's hard to read.

Sacrifices for Love

This is a story of love that makes heroes. It is sad that so many people are affected by the bad circumstances in life that never can be forgotten. Love can raise people to a level of triumph that gets them through the hard times. As well as cause others to become heroes through the sacrifices of love.

The story itself is very good, though the conflict between Doobie and Mike is not fleshed out well. It feels like an afterthought to provide a reason for Mikes death. The big problem I have with the book is the large amount of grammatical errors in every chapter. Proofreading has been around as long the written word, make use of it.
