Addison Holmes is at it again. When priceless Russian gems are stolen on their way to Savannah and the courier is murdered, all the clues lead to back to an escort service that seems above reproach. But looks can be deceiving.
Throw in a sexy detective and a dangerous FBI agent, and Addison finds out very quickly that she's in way over her head. But nothing is going to stop her from getting her man.
Liliana Hart spent five years teaching music in the public education system. She molded America’s youth, busted kids for smoking pot in the restrooms, and broke up illicit affairs behind the stage on a regular basis. (Liliana’s Addison Holmes Mystery Series, about a small town teacher who gets into a whole lot of trouble, is somewhat autobiographical, but she won’t confess to which parts).
Liliana began reading romance novels with all her new found free time, and when she ran out of things to read, she decided to write her own novels. The result was a 150,000 word thriller—a dazzling adventure—where the heroine was a thirty-year-old virgin assassin (Yes, you read that right). She couldn’t imagine why people weren’t knocking down her door to read it, but she persevered and began writing a second book. She finally got the hang of things, and eventually learned that losing one’s virginity wasn’t all that romantic after all. All of her books involve some kind of suspense (she just can't help herself), laughter, and a lot of steamy sex.
Since the failure of her first attempt, Liliana’s books have won awards such as: The Daphne Du Maurier, The Suzannah, The Linda Howard Award of Excellence, The Maggie, and many others. Her affiliations include Romance Writers of America and Mystery Writers of America.
Liliana loves to cook, and is addicted to reading, Internet Boggle, kickboxing, and Bones. She lives in a big, rambling house in Texas with a couple of cats to keep her company. She loves to get emails from readers.
"I tried to keep watch on all the entrances to the backyard like Kate had told me to do , but I was too fascinated by the lock picking set in her nimble fingers. I wondered if they’d teach me to do that stuff in classes to become a private detective. Somehow, I was thinking that wasn’t a skill they wanted to teach to the general public. She had the door open in a matter of seconds, and when she gestured for me to join her, I ran to her side like the great loping gazelle I was— almost slipping on the edge of the pool and going in face first."
" “You’re up, Addison,” Savage called out quietly. I looked down the three stories below me and looked back at Savage with sheer terror in my eyes. There was no way I could kamikaze myself onto that branch. I shook my head no, even as he scooted further out onto the branch, holding out his hand. “I can’t do it ,” I said back. “Y’all go on without me. Save yourselves.” He rolled his eyes and said, “Get a grip. It’s twelve minutes until midnight. I don’t think you want to still be here when the alarms go back on. Now jump, dammit.” I chewed on my bottom lip and did a few stretches. Maybe I should have worn my Nikes instead of my Chuck’s. Not a lot of bounce in Chuck’s, but they were the only all black shoes I had. “This is going to have to go into my report,” Savage said. “It’ll say chicken in big red letters right next to your name.” I narrowed my eyes and made a flying leap for the branch, catching Savage by surprise. I wrapped my arms and legs around like I’d watched Kate do, but I ended up sliding sideways until I was hanging upside down like an opossum. “Christ,” Savage muttered as his strong arms pulled me from certain death. “It’s like going on a mission with Gomer Pyle.”“Excuse me,” I hissed. “Not all of us can be Green Berets. And I bet you looked really stupid in the hat.”
Addison Holmes #2....she is up to her usual bumbling tricks. This is a nice light story, quick read and you don't have to put a lot of energy into it. But like #1, the ending is just so out there...all these weird details come out of nowhere to wrap up the story in a hurry. Lots of romance that I could do without but I know there are lots of people who really like that sort of fluff. But since it's a quick read with no huge investment, it's an okay way to kill time when you are stuck at home!
The best thing about the Addison Holmes series is that it's an easy fun read. The pacing is excellent. The characters are brilliant. Addison is beyond likable. Everyone has or wants a friend like her. The mystery is always interesting even if a bit fluffy. It's definitely chick mystery, but the reveal is always satisfying. There is romance, but I wouldn't really call this romantic mystery. There needs to be more development on that front to warrant that description. Don't get me wrong, Addison and Nick are interesting and we're introduced to the hot FBI agent that throws a wrench into their relationship, but I almost feel like we've jumped two books into the series in their relationship. There's too much that is glossed over. I can't believe I'm saying it, but I think I'd have liked more sexual tension between them or I need more time exploring their connection. As it is, I don't know if I care as much about them as a couple as I do about Addison's PI future. That being said, I still totally dig this series.
The bad thing about the series though is it's paint by numbers. Seriously, this is a Stephanie Plum fill in the character blank. Addison kind of falls into the PI world as Stephanie fell into being a bounty hunter. They both have a cheating ex who coincidentally cheats on them with their arch nemesises. They are both in relationships with hot cops. The third in their love triangle is ethnic with a bit of mysterious danger. You have a sidekick with questionable fashion choices. Neither is particularly good at their new jobs, but Addison does seem to have potential on that front. Oh, I'm sure I can go on in their similarities, but I think you get the picture. You can however overlook that if you try hard enough. While they are insanely similar, there is just something delicious about Addison's world. It's less slapstick and more good, real fun.
It's not a perfect novel. There are some editing issues (just a few) and it does seem that there are some growing pains in this story, working out some character kinks and maybe a few direction questions, but it's still a great read. Pick it up. It's a real treat.
I don't remember the first book in the series, but I obviously liked it enough to put the second on my want to read list. I find this book just okay. I feel like the author was trying too hard to make the main character Addison like Stephanie Plum. She is kind of a mess, she has a friend Rosemarie who is similar to Stephanie's friend LuLu, and she has two very sexy men vying for her attention. Also, it did not make sense for a private detective to be hired to work on a case that the police and the FBI are already working. Overall, I felt like the book for was following a formula of other books it just wasn't original.
I abandoned this book after reading only 10 pages - I found the breezy style too fake and cheesy. Here's a few lines from those first few pages: "His muscles had muscles and I was pretty sure it wasn't his gun pressing into my belly..." "I waited for the sound of gunfire and for hot metal to rip through my skin, but there was nothing but tense silence..." "Just remember, that payback's a bitch, sweetheart..." "The air was thick with syrupy humidity..." I considered the ten minutes or so I spent on this book lost and gone forever - I'm not wasting another three or four hours trying to finish it. (When I looked at other people's reviews on Goodreads, I found many, many four and five star reviews for this book. After I'd tried, and failed, to find any rewards in reading it, I went back and noticed that nearly every review was written by a female and there were very few by other males. Normally, I've found that when I enjoy a book, the others who also enjoyed it are equally split by gender. However, perhaps this book is aimed only at a female audience, which may account for the skewed ratings.)
I have to be honest and say that when I read the first book I thought Addison was kind of a clueless ditz. Then the friend who recommended that I read the book pointed out that the reason she had thought I'd like it was that Addison is so much like me. I went back and thought about it, and darned if she isn't right! I would totally fall out of the tree and get stuck at the top of the fence. Totally. That being said....
This is book two in the series, and like book 1 it ended with lots of room for book 3 to start up. Matt Savage, a federal agent was introduced as a potential love interest for Addison, which formed a lively love triangle when you added in Nick. Nick and Matt are both pretty yummy.
So, I find myself wondering just how long it is going to be before book 3 of the series comes out.
I loved this book Liliana. I just love Addison. Sometimes she is so much like me when I was younger. She is such a clumsy person, but you have to love her. This book is about Addison and her work with the Detective agency. She gets fired from her teaching job and decides she wants to become an detective She also gets involved with a fellow worker Nick. They have been attracted to each other for some time and they finally enter into a relationship of sorts. Addison isn't sure how Nick feels about her. Meanwhile she meets Matt Savage and he likes Addison also, but Addison is faithful to Nick even though at times she is tempted. Matt and Addison are working on a case and as you read you will be entranced with this book. You are going to love it and I can't wait to read Whiskey Sour and finally her new book. This is really a great read
Whiskey Sour begins when Addison and Nick are talking again, but things may not be all that great, especially when Addison decides to help the FBI and get her private detective license. While she's having these issues, she's also having issues living with her mother and her mom's new boyfriend.
This book was actually very good. At first, I thought it was sort of slow to get into and I don't like when the prologue gives you more information, but I was happy with the outcome, and very happy with what happened between Nick and Addison. I really hope she finds someone else, because I don't like Nick.
Other than that, this one was really interesting, and I thought it was very good overall. I can't wait to read the next one now.
I adore Addison Holmes. She makes me laugh like no other heroine has in a while. I loved Whiskey Rebellion, but I think I enjoyed the second book even more. The secondary characters are well-drawn and likeable. Great chemistry between the two main characters. Adding a new potential love interest was a great twist and complication for poor Addison to stumble through. The mystery was such a minor subplot for me -- I just wanted to see what trouble Addison was going to get into next. Ms. Hart, I know it takes a lot of work and energy to write a book, but I am hoping not to have to wait too long to read the next in this series.
Another awesome novel in the Addison Holmes series! Addison while goofy and a little frustrating at times, is a very likable character that I felt I could relate to very easily (especially when it comes to her addiction to sweets). The action and romance in this book is off the scales and incredibly fun and funny to read. It's a quick and easy novel to sink your teeth into when you're feeling down and need a good laugh. While the love triangle gets a little irritating you can't help but enjoy both men since they're both exceedingly drool worthy. I'm going to need to get the next novel soon since this one leaves you on a bit of a romantic cliffhanger!
Liliana Hart writes a captivating mystery thriller with great characters and wonderful dialogue. More than once, her use of humorous phrases will have the reader laughing out loud!
Meh. The characters are engaging enough for me to want to keep reading to find out what happens, but the book is still very poorly edited/proofread - the kinds of errors that spellcheck wouldn't catch, but an actual person would - like when she said that a particular person's reaction was a "very good sigh" (meaning it boded well for the future).
I was disappointed in this book - it is so similar to Janet Evanovich's books about Stephanie Plum the bounty hunter - complete with similar characters, including two hot guys and a crazy side kick. It does not appear to be an original to me.
I love the Stephanie Plum books - the Addison Holmes characters and plots seem to me to be a poor copy of those books.
Not my kind of characters. Not enough mystery and too much ogling the opposite sex and jumping in bed then deciding it wouldn't work. The best friends didn't come off as a real relationship to me. I thought the main character was a very immature 30 year old. Perhaps it's a series for younger people.
DNF after 4%: Horrible magnolia blossom overstated southern accent by the narrator of the protagonist, lack of character development or plot development, and outrageous “sexy” comments and innuendo stopped me from going any further. It has good ratings but I could not get past my biases to plunder on.
I didn't understand the plot of this book, the whole FBI hiring private investigators but then everyone's in on it and it's all a conspiracy... Wha? And the sex scenes kept cutting away to the next morning. And I'm not attracted to men in funky socks.
Not sure how this managed to get tagged as the first book of the series in my ereader. Though knowing what happened in the first book might have helped, it wouldn't have addressed the fundamental problem: this book was not fun enough to make me ignore the complete implausibility.
Loved this book, accident prone Addison fumbles her way through yet another case and this time has two hunky cops to choose from. Funny, well written and good suspense.
I tried to finish this book as I loved the first one but I found it very hard going and to be honest quite boring. Sorry but it has nothing on the first book
The only good line in this book is: That is the third most asked question, the first is who killed JFK and how did Glenn Beck get on television?" Hilarious...that was it.
