Transplanted Tales #1.5

Grimm Consequences

Rate this book
You reap what you sow...

Saying Nate Grimm has a dark past is an understatement. Fortunately, no one's bothered to look too closely at the Fairytale Management Authority's lead detective and part-time Reaper. And that's the way Nate wants to keep it. For after centuries of torment and loneliness, he's finally found happiness with the hot and hard-charging love of his life, Tess "Red" Little.

Of course, his love for Tess is the reason there's a posse of Reaper judges after him, led by a sadistic bastard acquainted with Nate from once upon a time. Now, Tess will pay the price for Nate's transgressions unless Nate severs his ties to the transplanted Tales--and Tess--forever. His enemy has the advantage in speed, malice and brutality. But the Reapers have underestimated the depth of Nate's love and devotion. And the fury of his wrath. . .

Kate SeRine (pronounced “serene”) is a hopeless romantic who firmly believes in true love that lasts forever. So it's no surprise that when she began writing her own stories, Kate vowed her characters would always have a happily ever after. She's the author of the award-winning TRANSPLANTED TALES series, the PROTECT AND SERVE series, and the DARK ALLIANCE series.

Kate has been a finalist in the Fire and Ice Contest (2010), the Finally a Bride Contest (2010), the Gayle Wilson Award of Excellence (2013), and the Booksellers Best Award (2017); and is the recipient of The Emily (2012), the National Readers Choice Award (2012), and the National Excellence in Story Telling Award (2022). This review was originally posted on Books of My Heart

Review copy was received from NetGalley. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

My favorite novellas have tended to be set in series where I've already read multiple books.  It is a great way to tell a story about a side character or expand on some details of some of the current main characters that maybe are only in the author's head. The Transplanted Tales series takes characters from Fairy Tales and some other literature and throws them into real life here in the real world.  It is a little like a show I loved when it came out Once Upon a Time, except they are scattered all over the place and you are just as likely to have characters from Shakespeare as you are to have Little Red Riding Hood.

Grimm Consequences happens a few months after Red in the Transplanted Tales series and is told solely from Nate's PoV.  He has loved Red from afar for so long, now that they are finally together he might have to pay for some of the rules he has broken as a Reaper to save her.

Nate saved Red from dying in the land of Fairy Tales and gave her to Gram to heal.  That was so long ago and that moment changed him.  It saved him from the heartless unfeeling existence he was living.  But he paid a price for that day and has the flames burning into his soul to prove it.  He has paid that price a few times since then as he broke rules to interfere and affect Tess Little's life.  But now he knows the Judges are waiting and biding their time to punish him for saving the love of his life; it is just a matter of time.

Someone from Nate's past is stalking him, waiting in the shadows to strike and Nate needs to be ready to protect not only himself this time but Tess too.  He will pay any price for the woman he loves.  But, what is it going to cost Tess?

This was a great novella that delved a bit into the world of the Reapers.  It gives us a look at Nate's co-reapers and how one man's twisted jealousy against Nate might cost him dearly.  He is going to have to think quickly and pull out all the Reaper tricks if he is going to save Tess.  I liked seeing a bit more of what Reapers can do and meeting a few good and bad to see how Nate's life became entangled with our Tess Little's life.  Really good expansion into the series.

So I got to admit first up- I did the unthinkable and read a sequel as my first book.
A thing I am actually quite happy to do, though I know quite a few of my reading buddies will be appalled and shake their heads at my nerve. How could I ever? Well, frankly I like the idea of reading a novella by an author I don't know. It gives you an insight to their reading style, which as you all know by now, is the making or breaking of a book for me.

Before I go on though, I should admit after reading this, I did wonder for a minute about my wisdom in ignoring the reading order of a series- because let's face it, many novellas in a series never do live up to the actual books. So I ended up rounding my rating up- because to be honest this was kinda between good and ok for me- which would be 2,5 Stars... and usually I round my half stars down.

Then again I got to say my biggest issue with the book was the writing style. It wasn't bad. No! It was just not for me. I sadly can't even point out what it was, just that it was somewhat to simple maybe? But honestly all I can say; I didn't enjoy it much, which in turn means I probably won't be reading the series despite the fact that there are many good points to this- and in here lays the other reason for the 3Stars as well.

The plot was fun to say the least. Action to my hearts content! Non stop excitement, never a dull moment kinda of a plot. So right up my alley.

The world building is awesome! Despite not having read the first novel I was never lost. I really like the idea of this, seriously it's fabulous. So so very clever! There are so many cool details, SeRine took the putting a spin on the fairytale to a totally new level! I am always a bit weary about the retelling of my beloved fairytales- but SeRine leans on things we all know, and spins them to a totally new and exciting tale. Just inspiring!

The character building was alright. But here comes my call to caution, I am not sure if I am the best judge for this one. There were 300pages of book before this- which I graciously skipped- so I got to say please take my view with a pinch of salt. It might be a totally different experience if you actually follow the known procedure by reading book 1 first. But having just read Grimm Consequences; the character building was just alright. I found it hard to connect to the two MCs, though I kinda like them. I am sure the writing style was one of the reasons for that as well. I did care for them and wanted things to work out, but I don't feel like I actually know much about them after reading this or felt connected to them and I couldn't relate to them.

After doing the unthinkable will I read the series? I don't think so, because I didn't enjoy the prose. But I loved the world building, so I might one day give it a try, just in case I changed my mind... you never know.
Would I recommend this to my friends? YES! If you like PNR, give this a try! The world building and storyline is fabulous! SeRine is one of the most innovative authors I've read in a while. Hopefully you will like her writing style better than I did.
A word of caution.. maybe start with book 1?

Well, the action in near the end was pretty good. AND I kinda liked the thought of . But the whole "I only lie to protect you" stance from Nate annoyed the hell out of me.

Nate made me love him more (didn’t think it was possible) with his POV in GRIMM CONSEQUENCES!

GRIMM CONSEQUENCES takes place shortly after the first book in the series, RED and gives us a glimpse into Nate Grimm’s past and his relationship with Tess (Red). We learn more about his character, including his life as a Reaper and the sacrifices he’s made and continues to make out of love for Tess. I usually expect the male POV to be a bit more rushed when it comes to love and relationships but was pleasantly surprised by Nate’s passionate voice.

In my opinion, Detective/Reaper Nate Grimm was the break out star of RED. His charisma and easy going personality won me over in just a couple of pages so I was thrilled to learn more about him in this novella. I love a hero who is not afraid to show his vulnerability and Nate does that without losing his alpha status. Nate’s dark past as a Reaper could have turned him into a broken, tortured hero, but he manages to hold on to some of his humanity when he first meets Tess, which in turn saves him from that path. When his newfound happiness with Tess is threatened, Nate must face his Reaper past in order to save the woman he loves. The intense love and devotion he has for Tess is unfaltering and that’s what makes him a swoon worthy hero for me.

Kate SeRine’s fairy tale world with a touch of the dark side just keeps getting better! GRIMM CONSEQUENCES is the perfect follow up to the first installment and pulls you right in with plenty of action and suspense. The phenomenal character development and creative word building are just two of the many reasons SeRine’s Transplanted Tales has become one of my top ten favorite UF series. I love Nate’s character and this this novella was a great way to get to reacquainted with my latest book boyfriend!

*I highly recommend reading this series in order to avoid spoilers and any confusion.

Grimm Consequences is a novella in the Transplanted Tales series by Kate SeRine.

It’s not secret I love this series. Book after book Kate SeRine’s imagination has awed me. Every time she announces a new book a countdown to release day starts in my head. When I heard she was writing a novella from Nate’s point of view that countdown was accompanied by lights and whistles. That’s how much I wanted Nate’s novella.

I knew Nate love Tess (Little Red Riding Hood); it was easy to see every time they were together. What I didn’t know was the depth of Nate’s love. Actually love is such a small word to encompass his adoration and dedication to Tess.
For Nate Tess has been his salvation, his breath, and his reason to live. When he thought everything was lost he found her and she became the light in his life.
Nate’s job as a reaper is not an easy job; dealing with death every day can darken and harden the nicest soul and that’s exactly what happens to reapers. Their job turns them into uncaring and in some cases sadistic beings. That’s precisely what was happening to Nate when he met Tess, but she changed everything for him, she saw him as a man and not a reaper and filled his life with hope. He knew he wanted her, but also knew to have her he needed to change, to be better to deserve her *swoon* and that’s exactly what he did.
Nate and Tess relationship is new but is going strong, the only problem is Nate is hiding things from his past and that past has come to his door and it’s threatening his newfound happiness with Tess.

Nate is a character I have loved since I first met him in Red (first book in the series) and my love for him grew with each installment. What I didn’t thought possible was that I could love him more, and that was exactly what happened in Grimm Consequences. OMFG! Nate is simply M-A-G-N-I-F-I-C-E-N-T.

One thing that amazed me is how Kate SeRine was able to awaken in me unreasonable fear.Grimm Consequences is set between Red and The Better to See You (second book), I have read every single book in this series, so I knew Tess and Nate will be ok at the end of this novella, but Kate SeRine has a gift with words and she made me worry for them; even thought in my brain I knew they will be ok there were moments where I really despaired and thought everything was lost for them. That’s how talented Kate SeRine is.

Another thing I admire about Kate SeRine is how she takes the fairy tales we know since childhood and twist them making the new and completely original. In every one of her books she surprises me with the originality and uniqueness of her characters and Grimm Consequences was not an exception.

Grimm Consequences is a novella that reads like a full-length novel. It’s incredible how much emotion, suspense, action and character growth Kate SeRine was able to pack into this novella.

Grimm Consequences can be read as a standalone, but to get the full effect I recommend you to read Red before, and if you haven’t read this series can I ask you what are you waiting for? Transplanted Tales series is one of the best urban fantasy series in the market. If you like your fairy tales with a twist this novella and this series are for you.
Next book in this series, Ever After, will be release on August 21st and as you can imagine I have a countdown going on in my head… 4 months, 3 days and counting.

I love Nate Grimm :)

Kate Serine’s Transplanted Tales have delighted me, and I was so excited for Grimm Consequences. This is a novella that takes place between Red and the Better to See You. It shares the back-story of Nate Grimm the sexy reaper who won Tess’s heart. Serine brought him to life and made me swoon, shed a tear and fall deeper in love with this reaper. Mini review: Fans of the series will be deeply satisfied with Nate’s tale.

Nate Grimm is the lead detective at the Fairytale Management Authority and a part-time reaper. He is also romantically involved with kick-ass detective Tess “Red” Little. Nate has secrets, and a dark past, and all of it is about to put those he loves in danger. The tale that unfolds is suspenseful, emotionally engaging and completely swoon-worthy.
Call me crazy but I love Reapers and Nate Grimm is one of favorites. I imagine him as old-fashioned, sexy and debonair. In my mind, he resembles Neal Caffrey, from the hit television show White Collar. Now imagine tattoos and beautifully defined abs..yep. Swoon-worthy from the way, he walks to his sharp attire and finger worthy hair. From the beginning of the Transplanted Tales series, Nate’s love, respect and need to protect Tess has been evident. In Grimm Consequences SeRine reveals just how long Nate has had these feelings. She shares details about his past and I loved learning how and why he became a reaper.

Grimm Consequences was action-packed, suspenseful and had my heart racing as Nate and Tess’s fate was tested. SeRine gives us characters to loath and fear all while exposing Nate, placing Tess in danger and keeping my heart in my throat. It was brilliant and completely satisfying.

If you haven’t tried the Transplanted Tales yet I urge you to do so. SeRine takes urban fantasy, crime thrillers and fairy tale characters and creates magic. The tales currently available are Red, Grimm Consequences, The Better to See You, and Along Came a Spider. The fourth book, Ever After, will be released in August of 2014. All of the books deal with one Tale, a case and their romance.

These stories are just so creative and exciting. There are not many stories that I carry so much love for the entire character line. Not only the main characters, but absolutely everyone I have encountered in Red's life has a kindred appeal that makes you instantly love them. Red was such a breathe of fresh air with its unique paranormal story line, and the powerful emotional ties. Grimm Consequences is a short story that follows up with the Red and Nate path Red started. I will give us answers to the mysteries behind Nate's story, and give us a ton of chaos followed by a bit of happily ever after. I am so excited for the possibilities that each story opens for some of the other characters, and I can't wait to see what will happen with some of them. This mixture of kick ass action and fairy tales is just the right amount of naughty and nice. Kate Serine definitely crossed the start line in a dead sprint. This series is such a great way to be introduced to the paranormal fans, and it will ensure her abundance of fans from the get go. She is strong writer with extra attention to detail. The new world that she has created can be easily imagined, and her detail to this alternate reality will allow readers to effortlessly escape in seek of an adventure. There will be more to come from this author here.

Grimm's Fairy Tale Ending.

Still my favourite couple from this series, Grimm Consequences is dedicated to the fans who cried for more of Nate and Tess's story. And not only do we get another sweet slice of Tale/Reaper life in this good-sized novella, but we get it from Nate's perspective!

And what a perspective! If you were ever in any doubt whatsoever just how much Nate Grimm worships the very ground Tess Little (Red) walks on, then this book will set aside those doubts forever. It was achingly adorable. Not only can he not believe his luck that she's now his lady, and has been for two months, but he's also torturing himself about the secrets he's still keeping from her about himself and his past. He knows it's past time he told her everything, but after the way the last revelatory conversation went? Well, you can't blame him for being nervous. Unfortunately, before such a conversation can take place, an old adversary shows up with heart-stopping consequences for our fairytale couple.

Fave line: "Regenerate from that, mother fucker!"

A terrific follow-up story not to be missed! - 5 Stars ★★★★★

After meeting Nate in the first book there was no way in heck I was going to pass by the chance to read more about him and hopefully learn more about his past. I fell in love with his character and was fascinated by him. I needed more and oh boy did I get more. I think I very well might be more in love with him now than I was in Red. In fact, move over Red, you have competition.

On a more serious note, this gave me everything I was missing in Red and then some. It answered so many questions, gave me so much more Nate and Red time and really focused on other characters as well, characters I can't wait to learn more about in the next installments. And even though I am sad book two won't be about Nate and Red, I am really hoping we still get glimpses of them because I love them as a couple.

I can see now why this series is getting such great reviews and I for one, want more and will be continuing on with it. It is amazing how much one novella can really add to a storyline and make you fall in love with a series.

Fairytales remade for adults complete with violence, murder, swearing and sex.

This is a novella that falls after the first of the series, Red. It touches upon Red's (Tess Little) and Nate's relationship and goes back to the beginning of how they met and subsequently fell in love.

I thought despite this being a remake of fairytales for adults, it was rather cute. I liked many of the secondary characters - Al Addin, Trish Muffet, Nicky Blue - all of the names are a little different, but are still reminiscent of the classic fairytale characters.

I really enjoyed this little novella and was so intrigued by the fairytale element that I went and purchased several books in the series. If the novella is anything to judge by, I think I will really like this "adult fairytale" series.

It's no secret I love Kate SeRine and her Transplanted Tales, but Nate has been my favorite from the beginning. Kate delivered all the feels with this one and made my heart feel so full I thought it might burst. Adore, adore, adore.

Do read Red first, though. While you'd still get the benefit of Nate's unf-iness in Grimm Consequences, why would you deny yourself the back story that intensifies and sweetens that unf?

I enjoyed this as a great followup to Red. It didn't seem too organized. While Nate and Red had skills they didn't seem to strategize or work together very well. There were some lovely romantic thoughts Nate had. This is from his POV.

Oh my! I love Nate, always have. But after reading this. Dang, that man! Boy do we learn his secret, the Reaper part and before. Wow.

Nate's words, his story, bleed the feeling & emotions felt. I felt them. The prologue sets it all with the first time he ever saw Tess. The story follows suit splendidly.

***FULL REVIEW***
Years ago when Grimm first saw Red, he did what he'd never done before. What he never thought he'd do. He broke a law. An important Reaper law and granted reprieve to Tess by not taking her soul in death. Nate has once again disregarded his calling for another along with taking a life before it's time. Nate hasn't received his visit from the judges yet. They always come to discipline him. But the delay now has him scared for Tess. He won't let her out of his sight, especially not on their case trying to apprehend the dangerous escapee from the Asylum. Nate's past and Reaper background has caught up with him, and the woman he loves.

Kate and her prologues. Such a needed view of an important past event to set the stage of our main character. Nate's words, his story, bleed the feeling and emotions felt. I felt them. The prologue sets it all with the first time he ever saw Tess. The story follows suit splendidly. Nate's first sight of Tess is so romantic and yet has a twinge of tragic to it.

This whole novella is through Nate's eyes. Dang, that man! Oh my! I love Nate, always have. But after reading this... We learn the secrets that Nate holds near and dear to him. The secrets he fears losing Tess for if she ever knew the whole truth, the Reaper part and before. Wow. We learn the meaning of his "tattoos" and for what he paid penance for to receive them. Nate has been guilty time and again for what Reapers aren't to do. Then he took a life before it's time, even though she was cruel and evil it was still before her time.

Kate has once again crafted a mystery story and weaved it through with romance. She is amazing at this creation. The escape from the Asylum. The story behind Nate and his worry for Tess's safety. So much depth to the story!

This story takes place just months after the first book Red. But, I like that it didn't come out until after the third book. There are hints here that reference what happens in the third book, Along Came a Spider. So to keep that feeling and the feel of "aaah" here, I would say read the first three books before this. But, definitely wait until after reading Red before this one, it won't make as much sense or hit the cord with Red and Tess in your heart otherwise.

There are little answers to things we didn't see in the books with the POVs we were seeing through. One is the Tribunal coming to their decision over a mysteriously disappearing body. We see Nicky asking his favor of Nate.

This novella ties together all the books and their happenings smoothly. A must read if you are loving Kate's Transplanted Tales series as much as I am.

Nate Grimm has a dark tormented past but hides it well using his magic and some misdirection. Now the lead detective for the Fairytale Management Authority and dating Tess Little, Nate wants to keep his past hidden. But someone from his past wants Nate to suffer and will use who ever they can to do it. When Tess is used to being Nate to heel he will need to make a choice. Give up Fairytale and Tess forever or Tess will suffer for his transgressions. But even his enemy’s speed and brutality can’t win against the power of true love… or the extent of Nate’s fury.

I first fell in love with Kate SeRine’s wonderful fairy tale based paranormal when I was offered Along Came A Spider for review. The book impressed me so much I went back and read her backlist. SeRine’s Transplanted series offers a unique outlook on the mythology of fairytales; twisting it all into a sexy dark funny world that kept me hooked. She has brought the stories of old into the 21st century and made them one hundred percent hers and hers alone.

Grimm Consequences picks up right where Red, book one, ends. I wouldn’t recommend reading this as a stand alone as it expands upon the relationship of the protagonists from Red and introduces the premise of book three, Along Came A Spider. Well-plotted and cast with strong and personable characters, Grimm Circumstances is filled with taut suspense, delicious betrayal, dangerous antagonists, and a healthy dose of humor and romance.

Extremely character drive, Grimm Consequences gives us the backstory of Nate Grimm and how he came to be a reaper of souls. Entirely from his POV, we get a front row seat to the all pain he has endured and the sacrifices he’s made to ensure Tess stays safe. Everything Nate has ever done was for Tess and if you had any doubts about his feelings for her…this novella puts them to rest.

Action packed and conclusive, Nate uses his amazing abilities to make sure no one messes with what’s his ever again. Grimm Consequences was a wonderful endeavor to keep fans primed for the release of book four-Ever After-set to release August 1, 2014.

I am one of those Transplanted Tales fans that totally fell in love and rooted for Nate Grimm and Tess "Red" Little from the get-go as these two can never be more perfect for each other. And since Red was obviously told in Tess' POV, GRIMM CONSEQUENCES is something I've been anticipating because I love male POV stories and reading Nate's take on his relationship with Red is definitely a treat.

Now Transplanted Tales is an urban fantasy/paranormal romance series so GRIMM CONSEQUENCES isn't a boring after-the-HEA tale nor is it lined with white picket fences. Ha! I'm sure Red and Nate wouldn't mind a little "boring" in their life considering all the excitement they've been part of since the series started. Anyways, Nate's dark past caught up with him and as expected, his fellow "co-workers" used Red as leverage against him. And I promise you, these people Nate used to work with are sick mofos! I don't know how he managed not to get corrupted by them, huh!

Aside from the glowing love these two have for each other, there are a few intense and pumped up scenes in GRIMM CONSEQUENCES much to my delight. My favorite is the part where Nate basically sacrificed himself for Red's safety proving that his love is truly unconditional. It was a little over the top but it sure fit the scene. My heart was aching during the climax, my only consolation is that I know they'll live through it because I've read the books following this novella and Nate and Tess were alive and kicking in those. Still this interlude is definitely one for the books (intentional pun) and I'm glad Kate SeRine decided to write it and share this with us. On the flip side, this experience made their bond stronger plus it uncovered some curious connections and interesting backstories regarding these two. Humpty Dumpty? Who knew!

So if you're a fan of this series, go ahead and treat yourself to a copy of GRIMM CONSEQUENCES, you don't want to miss this!

It is no secret that I like a good fairy tale retelling - hello, look at the blog name. I'll wait ... ;-) SeRine's Transplanted Tales has been one of my favorites since I first read Red about a year ago. I was extremely excited to get back into Red and Nate's relationship in Grimm Consequences after having spent some time with some other couples.

This story takes us back to just a couple months after the events in Red, and is from Nate's point of view. He made it abundantly clear to Red just how much he cares for her, but now we get the insight and whoa momma - the love he feels for her is nearly overwhelming! He loves her so much he is terrified of losing her to the secrets of his past. So of course those secrets come out in the most inopportune way.

What I enjoyed most of all was seeing Tess Little "Red" through Nate's eyes. After getting to know her so well, and all her insecurities, it was adorable to see her in a new light. I fell more in love with him, her, and them as a couple in Consequences than I even thought possible.

I don't know where SeRine gets the ideas to put such unique spins on such classic stories, but I really hope she keeps it up. With each new story she confirms me as a fan for life.

I LOVED IT! Kate writes the most awesome fractured fairy tales!

First of all, I would highly recommend that this series be read in order. You can read each of Kate's books as a stand-alone, but your enjoyment will be magnified if you read them in order. In each installment, favorite characters are welcomed back and the reader is updated on the happenings in Happy Ever After.

I first fell in love with Nate and Tess in Red, Book #1. This novella, Grimm Consequences, takes the reader back in time to fill in the history of Nate before Tess and of Nate and Tess from the very beginning of their relationship. After reading Grimm Consequences, I swear Nate is beyond awesome! It unbelievable how much Nate has evolved over time and to read what he has endured and given up for Tess will pull at your heartstrings. We learn that loyal and strong don't even begin to describe both Nate and Tess. Tess has the same wonderful attitude-in-your-face that she had in book 1. This time it's even more endearing as she stands up for Nate against unimaginable odds.

Happy Ever After is a place that I never tire of returning to courtesy of Kate's imagination. The Tales rock!

Happy Release Day!

This is a novella that adds a bit to the story of Red (Transplanted Tales #1). There are already three books in the series, with another to come later this year. I haven't read the first one, but I had no problem getting caught up with Red and Nate's story.

He has secrets. Lots of them! And he keeps thinking that when Tess Little "Red" hears them all, she's going to clock him one. She really should have! That boy had piles of secrets. BUT she just kept taking them in stride. She's one tough cookie.

Nate's job as a Reaper is seriously difficult. While he kept thinking he was a bad guy, I could see just why Red stayed with him. She sees what we do. He really is a good man...reaper...whatever. There is a bad guy here...and he was total loony tunes. My guess is that Ms. Serine had a blast writing him...and the Jaberwocky, too!

Lots of great supporting characters in this one. And I'm sure they have, or will have, their own Transplanted Tale at some point. This is the series that you want to read if you like snark, adventure, romance, and a twisted view of fairy tales.

There is something about the twisting of the childhood fairy tales into a adult story that contains swearing, sex and riveting suspense that just sucks me in. I'm a Transplanted Tales fan and this novella Grimm Consequences gives us more back ground insight into a fabulous couple of Nate and Tess. SeRine had me from the start and kept me till Humpty's deep dark secrets are revealed.

SeRine's imagination is astounding. She makes stories that are suspense-filled, sexy as heck, but still keeps that charm of witty and engaging characters. Although the focus is on Nate and Tess, you can't help but be utterly enthralled by all the side characters as well.

The big question: do you read this first before Red? Each story helps build the other, so no matter how you tackle these two books, you get more by reading them both.

Don't miss Grimm Consequences!

I received this ARC copy of Grimm Consequences from Kensington Books in exchange for an honest review. This book is set for publication on April 17, 2014.

No secret I love this series, so I had high hopes for more of Nate and Red. Grimm Consequences lived up to my hope! So great to get more of what Nate has been through, not only in his mortal life but also as a Reaper, what he went through himself and for Red, how long he's loved her. And unf, the sacrifices he made and continues to make for her. This one had so much emotion, the feels, sacrifices, decisions made and actions taken with no thought to himself, but all for her. Pulled me right in and kept me in the amazing and rich world Kate has created right up until the great ending. I love knowing this is a series I can recommend without reservation. Not many get better as they go, but I think each Transplanted Tale does and Grimm Consequences is the strongest yet. The depths Nate shows propelled him into the top five of my top fictional heroes, which, for as much as I read (and it's a TON) has been lingering at only four for years.

Sooooo. This is the novella that accompanies the first book in this series about Red & Nate Grimm. Nate is a reaper & did not reap Red's soul in the first book, so he is to be punished. This is a novella, so I will just say that I love Nate. He's just a cool guy who will do anything for the love of his life. The only thing I didn't catch was how Red started out with blue eyes & then they were brown?

Also, this is first person, but it works! Sometimes there is so much inner dialog that I cannot handle first person, but the writing style to me is like the narration in a "film noir".

This was yet again another great addition to this original series of transplanted fairytale characters!

I cannot wait for more!!

I really enjoyed this book and seeing things from Nate's POV. It's been a little while since I read Red, but most things came back to me. I liked that the story didn't repeat events that already happened, but picked up shortly after Red ended. I loved Nate and Tess and I was really excited when I saw this book in the series. We got to know all of Nate's history as it was revealed to Tess. Definitely an interesting twist on the old stories and I look forward to reading about the other characters we met.

A Perfect Follow-up to an Already Wonderful Story...

"Grimm Consequences" is the second book and only novella of Kate Serine's, Transplanted Tales series, and it is glorious!

It continues to focus on Red and Nate, who we find neck-deep in the aftermath of the events occurring in book one. It is a brilliant follow-up, bringing you through an arc of highly charged, adrenaline pumping events in the months following the end of the first book, "Red".

Here, Serine continues to showcase her writing talents with another quirky, emotionally intense, suspense filled story, saturated with sharp-tongued dialogue and creative wit. It also continues to broaden and deepen an already remarkable story landscape, beautifully illustrating prose that is not only vibrant and multifaceted, but emotionally intelligent, with outrageous, larger than life characters.  This story is over-the-top and exhilarating.

And unlike the first installment, which I found rather tame in the chemistry department, this one brings a fierce heat to the two main characters that will almost blind you with its brilliance. An absolutely perfect follow-up to an already wonderful story.

I didn’t like this one quite as much as the first. It was interesting to see things from Nate’s perspective, but most of the book was a fight scene and those are kind of boring, especially when you’re reading them.

I liked that Trish Muffet was an important part of the story, but I missed Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy, and nothing about Vlad Dracula gets resolved.

It’s only 1/3 the size of the first book, so it was much quicker to read and I didn’t have to stay up as late.

I enjoy this series. It's creative, clever and innovative as a paranormal world.

This was a short story but it really packed a lot in and there was all the action, suspense, danger, drama and romance the longer novels deliver.

Tess is a great character, and Nate is a good partner for her. It was tough watching them have to fight for their HEA, but we got there in the end.

This was a fun read and I enjoyed it for what it is.
