Your Child Will Share With You
Perhaps the biggest joy of childhood reading is sharing. Kids share what they read. They share with their parents. They share with their siblings. And they share with their friends.
Not only that, parents share quality time with their kids when they read together.
Mayrose’s mixture of fun facts, photos and Silly Stuff is a combination that will keep your family engaged and sharing with each other. This makes reading a family experience. It’s why he loves writing animal books for kids.
Book is short and very high level, but seems inaccurate in several places. More than one picture is labeled "worker" but looks like a queen. It says there is a room in the colony where the queen mates with drones (other books say mating only happens on nuptial flights then queen eats her wings). Author does not provide references for presenting different information.
This was a quick, enjoyable read that children will enjoy. It has some cool pictures and fun facts, sprinkled with a bit of humor from the author. I did learn one new thing. I did not know there was an actual name for the person who stories ants. (Mymecologist). I thought entomologist covered it. Interesting fact for me.
I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Enjoyable book about ants. I learned something. I was amazed by how many ant species there are. I was freaked by the head on shots of ants. Kind of ugly. Great read though for children 4-8.
