Making Soap from Scratch: Complete Beginner's Guide to Natural Handmade Soaps by Summer Vautierc is a well-organized and clearly written handbook. The author walks the reader through each step of the process while providing background and safety information. The experience of reading this book was equivalent to having the writer available to demonstrate the process in a workshop setting. This guide would likely benefit those who have never attempted to make soap as well as veteran crafters. The treasure trove of recipes included adds great value to this resource.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in order to provide a review. The author was able to communicate her knowledge and expertise to this novice in a pleasant manner while pointing out potential dangers and pitfalls of the process. A great find for adult crafters and gift makers.

A TRIP TO THE CRAFT STORE IS IN MY FUTURE!
Edit

Why, you might ask? Well it would be because I recently read the book below in order to review it!

“MAKING SOAP FROM SCRATCH – THE COMPLETE BEGINNER’S GUIDE” is just that – a COMPLETE guide for BEGINNERS. I’ve always seen all the soap making supplies at Michaels and thought it would be cool, but I’ve just never known enough about it to try it out. Now I think I can! Summer Vautier gives concise, Mom Brain-proof instructions, along with pictures (yay!) that are easy to read & understand… and most importantly, FOLLOW. If you are thinking of trying out soap making, this is a great guide for those new to the craft & process!

As someone who is interested in soap-making, but has not actually made any soap yet, this book seems like a good place to get started. It emphasizes safety in the beginning, which was something I worried about. The materials needed were also spelled out and tips on where to purchase certain hard-to-find items were included. The process of soap-making was presented in steps that were easy to understand and beginner recipes were included.
