The Serendipitous Curse - Reborn

In the heart of Savannah Georgia, up an oak-lined drive, lies Solomon Brandt Plantation, a spanking piece of suburban sprawl with a sordid past.

When an amnesiac bearing this cursed name stumbles into town, he’s immediately drawn to the haunted antebellum, and also to a Hoodoo practitioner who converses with spirits, and her gorgeous green-eyed niece.

Desiree McClinton, a descendent of the Brandt slaves, sparks emotions in Solomon, the likes of which he's never known. But curses run deep, and Solomon's crippling nightmares, seeping into real life, soon threaten their budding love.

Will Solomon be able to save Desiree from the evil that has followed him through time? Can a tainted soul truly be redeemed?

This book was written well enough, ignoring a few editing mistakes. I actually liked the writing, even if it felt a little too fast-paced for the story at times. I have to be completely honestly here. Reading this not only as a woman of color, but a southern woman of color makes me a bit more thoughtful about books like these when they're written by non-POC writers. I'm more critical, more suspicious, more likely to call out bullshit. I don't mean to be that way.

However, as I mentioned in a review of another book that tried to take on the racial aspects of its society, I find that many times authors end up sounding like apologists for a group of people who "don't know any better" or write something that reeks of white guilt or they show they just can't grasp the complex dynamics of racism in their writing.

This is a very charged topic for anyone to write about, but I am trying my best to be fair to the writers because I don't want to believe that anyone who decides to tackle these issues in their book plans to do so lightly.

I promise not to review these books completely until I've read the second and the third book, though, and I promise I will be as fair as I can when I do review them, if I decide to review them in the end. I already have thoughts formulating in my mind, but I'm only noting them right now. I'll save them for when I've finished the other two books (again, if I decide to review them).

This could turn into an essay. Beware.

This new, updated version of Reborn is a classic example of a Southern ghost story. I loved that our first glimpse of Solomon Brandt, he was naked on a horse amongst construction workers. That definitely made me want to find out what was going on. The characters in this story are well developed and I felt invested in seeing how their lives turned out. The setting was so descriptive that I felt like I was on a plantation in Savannah, complete with moss and humidity. The story does end on a cliff-hanger, so I will be anxiously awaiting the release of the updated version of Book 2!

When a strange young man suddenly appears on a white horse...naked...the story begins. Who is he and where did he come from? No one knows...not even him. He sees a sign with the name "Solomon Brandt" and tells people that is his name but people know that can't be possible because the real Solomon Brandt has been dead for hundreds of years with no descendents. Discovered by Melba, the owner of the land he is hiding on, deep in the woods...the story unfolds and the mystery of who this man is and where he came from comes to light. It is also the beginning of the terror from his past that is haunting him and those who are trying to help him discover who he is. With the talented writing team of Aiden James and Lisa Collicutt collaborating on this story it is sure to drag you in as it did me and immense you in detail and history with a story that will keep you interested. This is the first book in a series so the ending does leave you hanging and saying "No!" when you turn the last page on a cliffhanger but...it also leaves you eagerly awaiting the next book. I do not hesitate in recommending this to my friends and family and all who would like a well written and enjoyable story.

This was not my genre, I liked The Gathering Darkness much more.
I gave 3 stars because I can understand that people love this story.
But it was not for me, sorry.

I'm so sorry ...
But I must be honest.

Suspenseful

The book kept me changing theories as to the what, when, and why of the story. The plot twists and turns, changing direction, keeping up the suspence. I am anxious to read the next one.

Summary

The plot of the story was intriguing, it told a story of good versus evil. Cliffhanger. Must read the entire collection.

Aiden James does it again! He really knows how to weave a great story. All of his books involve the paranormal in some fashion; I've read several and loved them all.

n the heart of Savannah, Georgia, lies the Solomon Brandt Plantation, a spanking piece of suburban sprawl with a sordid past.

When an amnesiac bearing this cursed name stumbles into town, he’s immediately drawn to the haunted antebellum and also to a Hoodoo practitioner who converses with spirits—and to her gorgeous green-eyed niece, Desiree McClinton. A descendant of the Brandt slaves, Desiree sparks emotions in Solomon—the likes of which he’s never known.

On the one hand, Solomon wants to know his hidden secrets—but curses run deep, and he’s not entirely sure he’s prepared for the horrid truth.

But when crippling night terrors begin seeping into real life, threatening his budding relationship with Desiree, Solomon is determined to save the hearts―and lives―of the women he cherishes most.

But will the bloodthirsty Solomon of ages past reign once more in the modern era? Can a tainted soul truly be redeemed?

I can't wait to read the second book.

Another nothing burger of a book stretched into a trilogy when there isn't even enough plot for a single good book.

Very clever and entertaining!!

Aiden James and Lisa Collicut did an excellent job with this book!! Together, they wrote a great page turner that leaves me wanting more!!

The story begins with a strange naked man appearing from nowhere on a beautiful white horse. He's very disoriented and is clueless as to who he Is, how he got there, and why all these people have gathered around him yelling and wanting answers. He sees a sign for "Solomon Brandt" estate and something about the name seems familiar....it feels right. He tells the townspeople that's what his name is and they respond by laughing. He hears people yelling at him about how "they've called the cops" but, Solomon doesn't understand what that means. He hears a noise in the distance and sees red and blue flashing lights. His instincts tell him to get out of there and that's exactly what he does!

You'll follow along with this mysterious man as he tries to figure out who he is, where he's from, what he's doing here, etc....

Will he ever get the answers he seeks? You'll have to read about his amazing adventure to find out! Download, The Serendipitous Curse of Solomon Brandt. You won't be disappointed at all!

Terrific job to both Aiden and Lisa on this clever and intriguing book! I look forward to reading more work from each of you!!

The Serendipitous Curse of Solomon Brandt,I have to say this was a book you can't put down. You feel every sense of feeling they are feeling. The excitement, the fear. When Solomon meets with the evil Solomon you can feel his fear, his hate. Also his confusion trying to understand who he actually is. Melba, the Lady who took him in, you can feel the great fear she has for her niece. All the way through you feel your heart beating fast. I never wanted to put the book down. yes I read it all in one day. I actually found myself on the edge of my seat as I read it off of my computer. It was a wonderful book to read. The authors did an awesome job with giving you a true picture what was happening, like you were right there. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading. I can't wait to read the next book. Well done, well done. All the people who have put it on there list to read. Do yourself a favor and read it now.

“No one saves us but ourselves. No one can and no one may. We ourselves must walk the path.” ― Gautama Buddha

Solomon finds himself thrust into an unfamiliar future and is helped by descendants of his former slaves. He braves the confusing world for a forbidden love and faces his worst enemy, himself.

The story explodes into action from the very first page, and it keeps you entertained through the very last page. The writing is solid and the concept is brilliant. This would make a cool miniseries. The way the story ends is really cruel, so do yourself a favor and grab the second in the series,Reviled , now.

when I first read the descriptipn of this book I wasn't sure whether I'd like it or not, but it was free so I figured I'd give it a go. I loved it, minus the fact it ends in a cliffhanger and I don't have the next book in the series,I really enjoyed the story in this book and can't wait to see what happens next.

Good, fun, quick read. Decent story, but writing stilted and did not flow naturally. Characters almost believable but just not enough depth to actually have me believe the characters.

Good read

The Serendipitous Curse is detailed in its characters but not so much as you would loose interest in the plot which takes you along on a trip you won't soon forget.

Great begining to series!

I was sucked into this book right from the beginning, I love when that happens! As a matter of fact, I liked it so much that I went ahead and bought the other two books after finishing the first chapter. I'm pleased to say that the book remained just as engaging all the way through.
Which brings me to the end of the book, not that there was anything wrong with the ending per se. What I didn't like was the fact that it was a cliffhanger, I really dislike cliffhangers. So instead of giving the book the 5 stars that I wanted to, my rating was dropped down to 4 stars.
