Cutting Ties, Book 2 of the Piper Anderson Series:

Against all odds, Piper Anderson has managed to pick up the pieces of her life. She's holding tight to her budding romance with Officer Bobby Wright, anxious to have her moment with him. That is until reports of a brutal attack at the local college campus turn her dream of happily ever after into a nightmare. The unmistakably familiar details of the attack are an instant reminder of the chains tying her to people and places she so badly wants to escape.

With her life and friends in danger, Piper must confront her past in order to fight for her future. To make matters worse, Piper and Bobby once again find their moral compasses pointing them in opposite directions. But what Piper doesn't know is that Bobby has secrets of his own. How can their love survive when their pasts have shaped them so differently? Piper's choices could bring her the freedom she yearns for, but will cutting ties with the past sever her relationship with Bobby?

Writing is a way to make a lot of different people do exactly what you want them to do. When I can’t get my toddler to listen to me, I turn to my characters. They always cooperate!

I currently live in Charlotte, North Carolina with my husband and seven year old son. I have perfected the ability to write in a noisy house and create story lines while folding laundry.

Ten Things to know about me:

1. I have a fear of whales. All whales. The noise they make. The sight of them (even on tv). I don't think this phobia has a name and I've never met anyone else who feels this way. I blame it on the 3D movie when I was 7 at the Boston Museum of Science. (Thanks Dad.)

2. When I get hungry it brings out the worst in me. My friends and family know to keep me well fed. They pack snacks now.

3. I can cook but not bake. Not even a little. Not even a box of brownies.

4. If there is a song I like it is normal to hear me listening to it a hundred times (give or take) in a row.

5. I do not, under any circumstances, read directions. Who has time for that? Making mac & cheese by the seat of my pants for the last 25 years.

6. Like a black-out drunk, I have lost hours of my life mysteriously to Pinterest. If you haven't tried it yet... don't. Save your self.

7. Before I became a mother, lots of things grossed me out. Now nothing does.

8. My favorite food is food... my least favorite food is no food. I love food. (apply the same rule to wine)

9. I do not have a green thumb. I have the kind of thumb that kills any type of plant ever given to me. Whatever kind of thumb that is... I have it.

10. Writing has changed my life. Not just the career it's created but the way I feel when I write. If you have something you love to do I hope you get the opportunity to do it.

This is the second book in this series. After Chasing Justice I had to keep reading because I had to see what happened. Believe me I couldn't have written this book, because it didn't play out the way I thought it would. Danielle knows how to keep your interest as this book proves. this is a good read

I read with a passion and I expect the characters I read about to be written with passion, to have passion and to make me passionate about them. That is what this series has and does. I love the connection, the nurturing, the unconditional love Jules, Michael, Bobby, Betty and Piper have. Danielle Stewart has taken me on a journey from Chasing Justice into Cutting Ties and I'm impatiently waiting for the third book in the series. If you want/need to experience the making of a family, the truth about love, the discovery of self....you want Cutting Ties.

Cutting Ties is the perfect sequel to Chasing Justice. It picks up right where the first book left us all begging for more and delivers just as many twists and turns as the story unfolds. The reader is treated to further character development as we get to know the whole gang - Betty, Michael, Jules, and Bobby (and even a couple other unexpected guests from book one!) even better. Just like with book one, Cutting Ties is grounded mostly in suspense, but I think many readers will be happy to find that the romance is "amped up" a few notches. Relationships is a major theme in this book as we learn that Piper isn't the only one forced to confront a painful past. Danielle Stewart writes in a very REAL fashion where the characters face true ups and downs, and you'll find yourself experiencing all the emotions right along with them. Wonderful description, great dialogue, and, of course, some truly great one-liners from lovable Betty. I HIGHLY recommend this book! No cliff hanger this time - but a sneak peek at more to come!

Danielle Stewart has once again knocked my socks off with this book! I have been SO waiting for this book to be available AND Danielle didn't let this avid reader and book critic down! Way to go :-)

This is the 2nd book in the Piper Anderson series and if you loved or even just liked Book 1, I promise you're going to LOVE Cutting Ties. Also, you needn't have read Book 1 in order to read Book 2 but I would recommend doing so.

As I DID read Book 1, Chasing Justice, I was hooked then from the very beginning with not only the storyline but with the characters. In this book, Cutting Ties, you get a deeper sense and understanding of each character and why they "are who they are and what makes them tick"...Piper, Bobby, Michael, Jules and Betty. I absolutely LOVE each of them and feel like I know them personally (I wish). Again, I felt there in the story observing all going on.

Be ready for an emotional roller coaster ride. I found myself giggling, smiling, scared, sad and really truly wanting to cry at various points in the story. I suggest you hold on for quite the emotional ride!

I'm writing this review without being very explicit about the storyline because I've seen too many reviews written on books that give away too much detail. I don't like that.

Oh and I must mention that the cover of this book is incredible!

I am telling you, I have read so many books over the years and Danielle Stewart is an author who's going to go very far in the publishing world. Danielle has a true gifted talent for writing and delivers her stories in a well flowing manner. She delivers the perfect balance of description and dialogue. What happens in the events as they transpire in the story are delivered to us readers perfectly, in a manner fitting for the storyline.

I honestly can't recommend this book highly enough. Trust me, you won't want to put it down... you'll want to get totally "lost", uninterrupted in reading it. I want to be a billboard and shouting to the world to READ THIS , FOLLOW THE SERIES AND DANIELLE!!

Danielle, you are awesome...I can't thank you enough for delivering a truly amazing book series that I am completely hooked on. I absolutely love the connections between the characters in this series. Keep them coming. Can't wait for the next book :-)

Again all, HIGHLY RECOMMEND and tell all your friends about it! Can't rave enough about it. I'm in love with this series. and author's writing!! :) :)

Loved this book even more than book one. This was so unpredictable. It was loaded with suspense, romance, drama, humor, you name. We followed Bobby, Betty, Jules, Michael, Piper, Christian (Chris) and a few new we meet along the way. We have stranger danger. It left us with a real cliff hanger and and waiting for book three..Glad we don't have to wait too long. KUDOS Danielle!

I am loving this series. Not thrilled with some of the outcomes of this book though. There are moments that are heartbreaking and then there are moments that take your breath away (in a good way). Truly a roller coaster of emotions. I LOVE Betty and Jules. They welcomed Piper into their family no questions asked and despite any problem that arises. Michael seems to be a pretty good guy and I do hope one of the future books is about him, he has so much depth that hasn't been unleashed. Piper and Bobby's story is so complicated. I do hope we get more in the next book! I can't wait for more!

Congratulations Danielle Stewart on another brilliant release in Cutting Ties . Suspense, romance, humor!

Cutting Ties is the second book to Chasing Justice, Stewart's thrilling debut novel. It continues the story of Bobby and Piper, returning to Edenville, and their journey toward peace, justice and love. Piper and Bobby know they love each other, but can they thrive when their different experiences from their pasts, which have shaped their view of justice in particular, survive when confronted with the disastrous visit from Piper's former life?

Piper and Bobby were fundamentally very different. This wasn't glossed over, but explored perfectly. Their love for each other was realistic, convincing and heartfelt. Bobby of Piper -
"I love you in a way that petrifies me. I love you so much that I cut out the best parts of me to make room for you, and now I don't recognise myself."
Bobby's sense of duty was admirable. His finesse, or lack there of, not so much.

Piper on betrayal from someone you love-
"Then a boat came along, warm, welcoming and safe. But all of a sudden her boat was capsized by betrayal. The water is much colder, the darkness and loneliness more intense, the pain more acute."

It was this sort of depth, thought and poetic writing, that impressed me.

Once again, supporting characters leant strength, believability and (appropriately placed and funny!) humor to the tale. Written in third person, present tense worked well. This author writes with what feels like, years of experience. Betty-isms frequently provided perfect moments of levity. The whole gamut of emotions were covered: joy, love, fear, lust, anger, sadness. Cleverly done.

The conclusion was more than fabulous. It was devastating, yet it was apt. It wasn't a cliffhanger, but an ending that will possibly surprised you none-the-less.

Epilogues - being the greedy reader I am, I love Epilogues! In this one, there was the added bonus of being familiarized with Christian. Watch out girls: this man has bad boy written all over him and will cause you to swoon!

If you love the blend of romance and suspense, the perfectly mixed cocktail in Cutting Ties must not be missed. Grab it, enjoy, swoon, cry and gasp.

"Cutting Tie"s by Danielle Stewart is the second book in the Piper Anderson Series. The story continues from where it left off in the first book Chasing Justice. There has been a college student who has been murdered in the similar way that Piper's father had completed his killings. As time goes by Bobby feels the need to involve the FBI to help solve the cases believing this case a related to Piper's father. As Piper warned Bobby involving the FBI will change everything for Piper and her friends.

This story goes into more of Bobby and Piper's story. They finally have their moments together. Both Piper and Bobby struggle with the beliefs that have on how justice should be served. They both love each other but have their own views which tend to pull them apart. At times I couldn't wait for Piper and Bobby to be together. Other times I couldn't understand Bobby "by the book attitude". As you get deeper in the book you learn why Bobby always follows the rules. I understand Bobby's reasons I am still a big fan of Piper's ways. In the way Danielle Stewart writes about Piper and Bobby you can still feel their strong attraction. I enjoyed how she made them so in love with each but so different.

In this book it goes into a little of Michael and Jules and their relationship. In the first book Michael and Jules were able to quick begin their relationship. In this book there is some trying times for this couple. Michael and Jules in their own way know what they want from their relationship together. As with any couple this will take time for them to work out.

My favorite part of this book was the moment Piper and Jules share. I don't want to spoil that for anyone so you'll just have to read it for yourself.

Overall I loved the book! It was a great second book! I love how Danielle Stewart writes her character. For me each character draws me and I love find out new things about them.

I love the ending and can't wait to see where this next journey is going to lead us. Looking forward to "Changing Fate"

*Original review posted on Gin's Book Notes (http://ginsbooknotes.com)*

Cutting Ties is Book 2 in the Piper Anderson Series and it is just as wonderful as Book 1, Chasing Justice. Danielle has a gift for drawing you into her stories and making you care about the lives that she has created with her words.

Book 2 delivers more action, suspense, and romance while at the same time taking a deeper look at how a person's past can affect their current decisions and relationships. It also examines that invisible moral line that exists for most of us. That line where we know we won't cross and if we do that we can never be the same person again. For some that line might be small, like its okay to steal (aka: take home) a few office supplies but not okay to borrow money from the office petty cash. For others it might be big, like its okay to take a life as long as you are saving others. These are the issues that confront Piper, Bobby, and several other characters in Cutting Ties.

One thing I do want to make clear is that in no way is this book "preachy". It offers both sides of the coin. It shows you that everything is not always black and white; that most of the time things are in fact a muddy shade of gray. The characters are engaging, the action is high, and the suspense is killer. So, needless to say, I highly recommend this series not just as a great story to get lost in but as a chance to examine our views and discover where we might stand on our own invisible lines of morality.

Astounding

I wasn’t really sure what to expect when I started reading the second book in this series, but I’m very glad I started it! It’s full of twists and turns and suspense that kept me glued to my reader, gasping and growling at the characters and wanting to cheer on some of their actions! Without getting to into the dynamics of the book I will warn you, at the end you’ll need a tissue or two but it’s definitely worth the read! There were a few heart stopping moments when I had to set the book down for a moment to collect myself before diving back into the book, a few times when I was laughing into my hand so I wouldn’t wake anyone else in the house up (yes it kept me up most of the night!)

I was not paid to read this, I was given a free copy to read and give an honest review. I truly hope that you take a chance on reading a new author, sometimes it’s definitely worth it!

Another great book that kept me on edge and wanting to read more.. I am glad that Bobby set his limits with Piper, I hate them not working it out, but I love his strong character and him standing up for himself and not giving himself up entirely. I don't love Michael so much, when he was fighting with Jules and she ran off, he was so manipulative and emotionally abusive, that mind game nonsense... And they sort of left it like that and then really focused on Piper and Bobby... I wanted a tad more about Michael and Jules. I like how it ended, I might read the next book but I dont feel like I have to.

I read this book because I was intrigued to find out what happened between Piper and Bobby. I also wanted to find out what happened with Piper's dad.

I'm in two minds about this book. I liked the suspense of the story - will Bobby find her in time to save her from her dad? I really enjoyed that part but I have to admit, whilst I can't wait to find out what happens between Piper and Bobby as well as Jules and Michael, I'm a little annoyed that its been stretched out so much between a few books. I'm a little bored now with the on again off again love story. In every relationship there's an element of compromise but Bobby seems so inflexible. I really felt for Piper and her upbringing. How anybody can go through that and learn to love and enjoy life afterwards is amazing to me. It really explained why she is the way she is. Whilst Bobby's experience was awful, I didn't feel that it matched his reaction and behaviour; but I could see why he would struggle with the events and his job as a policeman.

I love Betty though. I would love to read a story based on her! She's so funny.

But after everything I've said, I will be reading the next in the series to find out how the stories end.

It is truly a shame the proofreader for this series slept through homonyms class, or someone just doesn't proofread carefully. And it gets worse as the series goes on.

This is a good set of stores (I'm on #5) that gets old after a few books, about incredibly complex characters who are all broken in some way. Not broken as in had-a-bad-few-months broken, but seriously having faced some unimaginable circumstances and come through stronger. While you know how they're going to end - it's a flaw of the genre - they illustrate family and friendship better than most. They're deep, under a shallow cover.
