An advertising copywriter whose specialty was direct-mail campaigns, Mr. Schwartz was the author of 10 books, including “Breakthrough Advertising” and “The Brilliance Breakthrough.” He wrote some of the most celebrated lines in direct-mail advertising, such as “Give Me 15 Minutes and I’ll Give You a Super-Power Memory,” which launched the first book of the memory expert Harry Lorraine.
He was born on March 18, 1927, in Butte, Mont., and studied at the University of Washington. He moved to New York City in 1949, joining the advertising firm of Huber Hoge & Sons as a messenger boy and working his way up to copy chief. In 1954 he went into business on his own.
Read it in a week, worked through it with a pen and notebook in front of my computer. This is a work book about rhetoric— the nitty gritty details of the details about the english language. It entirely changed my view and understanding of english.
Got recommended it through a Learning How to Learn email by Barbara Oakley. Since I've read it, I've written 77 short stories and gotten great comments on them. I'm simply not the same person I was before I read this book.
It uses a technique called 'cloze deletion.' If you've ever done Mad Libs, or fill in the blank, that's cloze deletion. The first half of the book is pure foundational techniques, the basic logic of english understanding and clear communication. The rest of the book is a guide on how to advance to the heights of style and beyond.
Any english writer who isn't familiar with rhetoric should work through this book, you will learn secrets that will benefit you for the rest of your life.
Hello my friends I am new to the world of digital marketing entrepreneurship, I am Brazilian and here it is impossible to find the book The Brilliance Breakthrough. I looked for a summary written by some reader, but I couldn't find it. I really want to read this book, as if my life depends on it. Would any noble person have the PDF or a summary that I can really understand and apply, that they send me by email? I really need help, please! "Whoever teaches learns twice". Thanks.
Breakthrough Brilliance is a wonderful book on improving your projection of your thoughts to others. I found the simplification method which was reiterated many times through this book the most powerful, as well as finding contrast to add wit and significance to your words. Eugene Schwartz is simply one of the most underappreciated geniuses ever.
Before reading this book, I was the walking personification of 'Ignorance is bliss'. With no real understanding of how poor my grammar was, or knowledge of how much that lack affected my speech. In my mind, writing was an unattainable skill not available easily to those with Dyslexia, ADHD, or Autism. Nor, all three. But, this book is a practical spellbook worth your time. You paint in your mind, and then you share that portrait with other's. You forget the rules, definitions, and the constructs to focus on creating images and connecting them in ways people can easily follow and understand. What happens is a transformation in thought more than one in writing. Thus, the order and manner in which you think becomes the canvas and your words become your brushes and colors. I wish you the same freedom this book has given me. At 40, the gift of articulation is unimaginable. And, while the world will celebrate Eugene Schwartz for his incredible insights into marketing, I will always cherish him for allowing me to believe in my writing and in my communication. Read this book, unlock your mind's voice.
