When her daughter is abducted, Lacie Wagner is forced to relive the fiery tragedy that killed her father and maimed her long ago, as the kidnapper begins to stalk her while setting a series of blazes around the city. A first novel. Reprint.
4 out of 5 stars It kept me reading By Sherrie Miranda on September 5, 2018 Format: Kindle Edition I've had this book for a while. It's not what I usually read as I like to learn about other cultures and countries. But it was well written and kept you turning pages. I found the protagonist and antagonist to be over the the top though, not very realistic, same with Jack. He was a bit of a Superman. There is one surprise that I suspected all along, but I won't give it away for those who want to read it.
What starts out as a kidnapping evolved into a cat and mouse game with fire as the ultimate weapon. Lacie Wagner survived the fire that killed her father but not without damages. Now twenty years later she's the target of someone determined to destroy by fire first her daughter than anyone close to her. A review said if you're faint of heart skip this one. I'll add, if you're queasy about fires, pass this one by. It's genuinely disturbing. If you like tension, twists and suspense, this one will keep you up at night.
I was very surprised by this book. Kidnap stories usually are not my favourite thrillers. And hubby picked this one for me to read by closing his eyes and pointing. That method of choosing usually bombs. There were a few moments where I wanted this book to hurry up but for the most part it was well thought out with lots of cliffhanging moments. It was a tad predictable (and the love scene could have been gotten rid of) but an enjoyable read.
The rest of the book is pretty bad. A decent amount of suspense at first, but the author pretty quickly slips from suspenseful to silly in her increasingly ridiculous attempts to make the bad guy feel scary.
I was also not convinced that the MC's ex-husband was indeed a good father to their daughter when he's apparently incapable of keeping himself from sleeping around with younger and younger women. The story starts with his latest girlfriend being only 19 and him insisting that his 13 y/o daughter is "not a child". Creepy.

I almost put this book down early because of the story content but I decided to continue on. I’m glad I did. While the story line is a very difficult one for a parent this turned out to be a really good read with one of the most sinister villains I’ve come across. Really had difficulties putting this down and highly recommended.
Lacy, a news anchor was burned in a car accident that killed her father. She still has dreams of this unknown voice. Suddenly, Lacy's daughter disappears and Lacy begins to get phone calls with the same voice taunting her. Lacy must find the man who has her daughter.
I'm reading Burnout right now and it kinda scares me from time to time, yet I can't seem to put it down. I highly recommend it if you're into the murder-mystery stuff.
Lacie Wagner is a up and coming news anchor and single mom who lived through a terrible event in her childhood. The nightmares that have plagued her since that day seem to be coming to life.
I kept pushing this book to the back of the pile. Wish I did not wait so long to read. Excellent book. Too bad the synopsis does not do it justice. Will seek out more by author. 4 stars
