“I don’t love him,” Nate said, head still bowed and gaze fixed between his spread knees. “I love you, Jasper. You are the only man I want to be with. What I once thought I wanted with him… it would not have worked. I know that. We were meant to be friends and nothing more. Hell, if he showed up on my doorstep tomorrow and confessed he preferred men and wanted to give it a go between us, I would still choose to be with you." — Nathaniel Travers
Warnings: roleplaying
I missed that this was a companion or sequel short story to His Client, that story looks appealing in its own right even if I did get a fair few spoilers in this. It continues Nathaniel Travers and Jasper Reed's story in Shere, Surrey in July 1823. They are in love and happy though there are societal issues that prevent them living openly. I appreciate these characters, Jasper is deeply human trying to prove himself in a society that would definitely see him as lesser and struggling to come to terms with how to be himself in public. Nate is a sweetheart. He wants Jasper happy, his selfish question was reasonable and also something that Jaasper needed to see. Their games a the start are perfectly spicy, physician and patient? Nate is just a perfect tease for where he takes that game. Honestly His Request is quite enjoyable maintaining a pleasing balance of character and spice. I'm glad I chose to read it even once I figured out that I was missing a puzzle piece. It is a free read on Amazon but for people who enjoyed His Client, this would be worth paying for.
