“However, you should prepare as it is likely you will meet a woman whose eyes will charm your senses and whose wit will bewitch your mind.”-Lord Matlock
“Does she have an interesting dowry, too?”- Colonel Fitzwilliam
The earl gulped his brandy and shook his head. “We shall see if you ask about her dowry tomorrow night.”
“On the other hand, Darcy knew Elizabeth did not dislike him. The earl was completely wrong about that! She smiled at him, teased him, and followed him with her eyes when they were together"

“Then, by all means, do introduce some witty subjects, ladies,” said Darcy severely. “I have long desired such an unusual event to occur.” His voice was as rude as his words."
-and just skirting the the bounds of propriety;“I heartily agree with you, Aunt, with regard to both matters. I have no doubt about Anne’s exquisite taste, and yes, Miss Bennet has a very good notion of fingering. She only has to practice more under the close guidance of a master.”![]()
How scandalous, Mr Darcy! How shall we punish him?
What I enjoyed:
-Very Gradual and realistic turn in affection for ODC“Third—among all the gentlemen at the party, Mr. Darcy was indeed the one whose clothes were most flattering to his figurere. It was fortunate that Lady Brightmore and Lady Selina had pointed out that feature to her; she had never paid close attention to it before with any gentleman.”
-Sleigh ride
-Lady Brightmore slayed Caro!
-Darcy advising Mr Bennet on Longbourne and their blossoming bromance
-Lady Selina
Lydia gets recovered from London before Wickhams demands need heading but she fancies herself in love![]()
What Displeased Me:
Unfocused structure. A good story, like a bow tied gift, when read feels akin to releasing the knot of a silk ribbon, sliding slowly until all sides of the box evenly fall and reveal the central theme inside.
This is the closest I can come to explaining what I felt kept this story from perfect.
With good characters, dialogue and ODC chemistry why have I cause to even repine?
Yes those are all integral to an entertaining story, but a tale has a central underlying narrative, something everything should be inching towards and there was an absence of that structure here.
Colonel Fitzwilliam is usually named Richard but is Robert here, and its confusing, but thats his name in all her stories.
Conclusion
I enjoyed it, and I will reread!
I measure the quality of a JAFF by three factors, as follows;
1. Did I feel the characters acted true to Austen's character framework (allowing for changed circumstance and scenario to offer some leeway)? YES
2. Was I engaged during the reading and not bored? YES
3. Was the writing compelling/ intelligent and was there sufficient interaction/dialogue between the main characters? YES
