REVIEW As I read, I couldn’t help but feel I was missing a huge chunk of Vlad’s life. It seemed that Vlad was abandoned by his family/pack because he was the runt, yet he talks about his (adoptive?) siblings and being thrown out of a pack AFTER the fact. While there was exposition provided in his internal monologue, it didn’t fully explain what I was missing from past to present.
BUT in defense of the book, it did have a suggested reading order. This is my first read by the author, so obviously, there’s lore that I don’t know that would help my confusion.
I thought the initial meeting between the characters was really sweet. It unfortunately fizzled out for me after that. I didn’t care about them or their relationship, and while the novel is fast-paced, it feels so slow. The prose, especially during sex scenes, was too flowery for me personally. It was still well-written, and I can respect the beauty of it, but
I’m curious to see where the story goes later on, and honestly, if I read book one and then read this, I’d be FUMING. Usually, at the end of a romance book, you can be content knowing that they’re going to be together forever until they’re old and then pass on the same day in their sleep (I’m delusional, okay?). Without giving anything away, I will say it doesn’t feel like a guarantee, considering a character from a previous book—
Although, the author’s note at the end does suggest a rectification, so there’s hope.

I loved every page of this book! The writing was fantastic and gave me cozy reading vibes. It’s an omegaverse which is one of my favorite but the tone was such a refreshing take. I truly enjoyed reading about Vlad and Anya, the character development and just all around story line. This can be read with the series or if your like me as a standalone that makes you want to read the entire series.
This is a very action packed book cloaked in mystery. The first half of the book you get glimpses of the backstory but just enough to keep you wanting more. I loved the two MCs and their chemistry and pull to each other. As the story unfolds you find out there are a lot more sinister things than just a runaway lone wolf and an injured alpha. It’s a quick read and very rich in world building and detail. It also has a beautiful blooming romance woven throughout the book. Definitely worth a read!!!

Shifter books are one of my go-to-books since forever. There is something about the whole "fated mate" and "the true one" for you that is just alluring. and when the plot is done right, when there are intricate themes woven with realities and drama, these books tend to be amazing.
I thought Runt of the Pack was much better than book 1 "Branded in Love" which I thought was somehow rushed, illogical, had no development and the writing was somehow childish.
But Vlad intrigued me and I wanted to read his book
The story was typical Boy goes into a fight without plan Boy gets injured Girl find boy nurse him back to health discover they are fated have some drama along the way
There were many plotholes and events that keep you wondering, and a lot of questions in book 1 were not answered here. Who is this Grisha? why did he go rogue? why is he intent on destroying the Ursa clan? what was his vendetta against Gavriil??? many questions should have been at least explained here.
Vlad leaving his pack to go fight and rescue his brother alone did not make sense He talks about shifter's super sense but fails to recognize that Anya is a wolf? and later he identifies wolf intruders just by smell???
I liked Anya at the beginning. She was in a dire situation, took charge, left and made a life out of herself. But then, she was reduced to a helpless damsel in distress
I was going to rage against what has been done to Gavriil, but apparently, his story will continue. So hopefully he'll get the HEA he deserves.
I loved the writing style, yes there were many monologues, but I did not mind that because the sentences and wording were beautiful.
My wolf stirs restlessly, longing to answer winter's violent song with our own ululating cry
Back again with book #2 of the Bad Boy Shifters of the Unnatural Brethren series, "Runt of the Pack" by Silvana G. Sánchez immerses us in the wild and violent world of the Ursa Clan shifters once again. This time, the story follows Vladimir Volkov, the adopted older brother to Gavriil and leader of the Roman wolf pack we met in the previous book, who helped Gavriil save Luciana.
With this book, Sánchez proves that not only is she a master of the PNR genre, but she’s also unafraid to throw us into a world of tragedy, pain, and despair, where the HEA is not always guaranteed or as everlasting as we might hope.
Vlad is once again trying to save his family, ending up nearly dead in the cold of his brother's Russian dominions, only to be saved by a mysterious wolf and rescued by the woman of his dreams. Little do the Fates know that they have magically intertwined these fated mates into a strange destiny. Anya is a lone wolf, living on her own and hiding from her terrible, painful past. But when the past comes back with a vengeance, there is only one way out: fight or die. In a whirlwind of action, love, passion, and tragedy, Vlad's story won't leave anyone untouched.
Prepare yourself with a good stack of tissues and immerse yourself in this emotional novel. You won't regret it.

Vladimir Volkov (“Vlad”) was Alpha of a wolf pack in Rome but left to try to rescue his brother Gavriil. He gets badly injured in a fight and is left to die. Anya Sokolov is an Omega who has run away to escape her pack and has been living alone pursuing her artistic talents. Anya finds Vlad and takes him to her cabin to try to heal him. The two find themselves drawn together and perhaps they can find happiness and love together. But her sadistic pack Alpha Roan tracks her down. Can Vlad and Anya protect their love? Or have they lost everything as her old pack comes to violently reclaim her and she is dragged off to suffer her new fate as Roan’s branded “broodmare” while Vlad’s inert body bleeds out into the snow?
Vlad and Anya's story is an intense story that pulls you in as follow the dangers, threats, drama, love and passion. Vlad went to help his brother and is injured in an attack. Left for dead, Anya helps and heals.
Good story that kept me on the edge of the seat.

Wow.
It's been a bit since a shifter romace gripped me so strongly, but Vlad and Anya's story is definitely a really good introduction to the clans in Russia this alternate universe holds!
The MCs: I think the nature of this being a rather short story makes it you either love them or hate them fast. And I love them both, because both are wounded, but more importantly, there is no will they-won't they once they realize they're mates.
The SCs: open up worlds of opportunity, especially Gavriil! Very well supported.
The shifter system: needs a smidgen more BUT the promise of that is with all other books in this universe, for sure.
The world: listen, Russia is a go-to for this stuff, okay? Nuff said.
The romance: it's a shifters/fated mates one. Of course it won't take forever. As soon as you recognize that? You're golden to love it.
All in all, I really like what the author's trying to do here, and will absolutely be picking up more books from her. 10/10 recommend.
Anya and Vlad are so sweet. They both have been, and will go through, so much together and apart. More than 1 bad guy that keeps things filled with tension. I absolutely love Vlad’s brother’s coat at the end!
Vlad and Anya are a troubled and dark couple. I really like this story. It is well written . This is the first story I've read from this author. I can't wait to read more from her.

I was so excited to be offered the chance to receive a copy of this novel, for free!
Have you ever read a book that was so badly written, that it left a bad taste in your mouth? This book FIXED that!
It's interesting to think of bear shifters and wolf shifters in the same pack, but it really works! It was very easy to imagine that I was part of the story, and not just reading about it from the outside. It's packed full of action, adventure, love, lust… Everything I look for in a novel! There was only one issue that I had, but it had no affect on the story itself. It seemed strange to me that although it is set in Russia, several of the names are Spanish. But that was so minor and inconsequential, that is didn't affect anything.
If you believe in true love, this story is a must!
OMG this was a amazing book I couldn't put it down not even for a second. It was a steamy page turner and the suspense was highly intense of forbidden romance. I was on the edge of my seat and I was hooked. Vlad was an Alpha as he was walking in the beautiful world of Rome, Italy they were from two different world apart but Anya knew he was the one in the rain. Anya was from Russia. When they meet it was love at first sight and it was magical. Their relationship was steamy and risky but their love was undeniable and it was meant to be. Will danger be their downfall or will love overcome the obstacles until the end as they were physical attracted and the chemistry was off the charts and they knew that they was post to be together it was a romance in heaven. I loved it and I highly recommend this book and you won't be disappointed. I can't wait for the next book. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. It had a good story plot, and just enough spice to keep me happy. I would definitely read books from this author again. Devoured this book without pausing. Couldn’t put it down. Definitely recommend!
I really liked this book. Vlad and Anya are two broken souls with troubled past, she saves him after he’s injured and feels a strong pull towards him but fights it and he does the same until they can’t resist anymore and discover they’re fated mates. This story has redemption and brothers coming together and creating a family out of lone wolves to give others the home the need.

A fast read that moved very quickly. Vlad and Anya are both outcast in different ways. When Anya finds Vlad injured she brings him home and nurses him back to health and love blossoms. When Anya past finally comes back to hurt her Vlad stops at nothing to bring her back. it ends HEA but left me wanting a bit more. Can’t wait to see what happens next in this series

REVIEW New to me author and holy cow I want more... This book has so much heart, action, loyalty, and love. We not only get wolf shifters in this story but bear, and others as well.
Vlad always thought himself the runt... He failed in his duty to his clan... Well, he refuses to fail again not when they need him. Only...Her... Anya is an unexpected light in Vlad's world. She is strong, beautiful, and smart. He would have died without her. Now can he protect her? I want to say you will want to grab book one in this series but honestly, I haven't yet and this story reads clearly as a standalone. I got lost in this story, and hope to read more.
I'm giving this a 3 because I'm really not sure about this book. The story was good. I think it was the type of writing that i struggled with. And that some of the book just didn't work and had me thinking WTAF I love shifter books and I read through books at ridiculous speeds but this book took me 4 days to finish because I really just couldn't get into it. I don't think the story and the style went together.

This story follows the adopted brother of Gavriil, the leader of the Roman wolf pack, we met him in the previous book. After all, it was Gavriil who saved Luciana.
Sánchez with Runt of the Pack has proven in this book that she knows what she is doing when writing the PNR genre but she also knows how to twist in a world of tragedy, pain, despair, hurt, and tears. And Sánchez never promises us a HEA or that it is going to be everlasting.

There are multiple shifter clans in this story, and it can be a little bit of a challenge to keep them straight, but suffice it to say that Vlad is the Alpha of a "good" pack of Russian wolves, and his brother Gavriil is the Alpha of a "good" bear (Ursa) clan. Vlad became gravely injured while trying to track down Gavriil, who he feared was killed by a very "bad" bear shifter, Grisha, and his pack of rogue bears.
Anya was a packless, rogue wolf who was living in a cabin in the remote forest outside of Sestroretsk Russia. She made her living as an artist and was fulfilling several commissioned pieces for her patron, who owned several high-end hotels in Russia (think Ritz-Carlton or Hyatt). One evening, after delivering her most recently completed paintings to Yulia, she returned home and heard a mournful wolf howl in the distance. She shifted and went out to investigate. She found Vlad, bloody and unconscious, and took him back to her cabin. In the beginning, neither of them revealed the other was a wolf shifter, although from what I have learned about shifters, there seemed to be a lot of clues that were missed. As Vlad healed, they became emotionally entangled (lovers), and eventually he confessed who he was, although Anya was still secretive about her background and history. But her past....her very bad and violent past...caught up to her, and she was kidnapped by her former Alpha, Roan, while Vlad was, again, badly injured in a very one-sided struggle trying to protect her. He was badly outnumbered and left for dead.
I will not divulge any more details of the story, as to do so would spoil it for new readers. Suffice it to say that it is an emotional telling, and done in quite formal language (except for the verbal exchanges between the characters, which doesn't seem to match in style to the rest of the story). It's quite well written overall, even though it occasionally lacks consistency in writing style. Russian bears, Russian wolves. Italian villas, Russian dachas. Heroes and villains. Bloodshed and lovemaking. This story has it all. I enjoyed it, and I think you will, too.
This book was intriguing, if a little uneven. Anya and Vlad’s slow-building connection carried promise; however, how the author portrayed their awareness of wolves at times - heightened senses, awareness of others - seemed in stark contrast of their awareness of each other. The first half felt drawn out, though the story gained momentum once their bond came into focus.
The narrative lives mostly inside the characters’ heads, which offers intimacy but limits immersion. I found myself wanting more dialogue, more shared experiences, to feel the heat of their connection on the page. Still, the author’s rendering of wolf spirits — primal, sentient, quietly powerful — added a depth I haven’t often seen in shifter romances.
The tenderness between Vlad and Anya was where the story shone. Their vulnerability, their willingness to reveal truths in their own time, gave the romance a sultry authenticity. Vlad’s restraint and Anya’s self-possession created a reciprocity that felt as alluring as it was real.
There were gaps and moments of confusion — characters introduced without clarity, threads that begged for just a few sentences more. A series can expand a world, but even a standalone needs enough grounding to keep the reader fully inside the story.
Still, I admired how Vlad’s history as a runt informed his journey as an alpha, making him more complex and less invincible. And the conclusion was rewarding: a reminder that strength is magnified in partnership, how community can literally help you with your battles, and that passion, melded with trust, carries us farther than even our juiciest of dreams.
Spice: 3.5/5 — sensual more than explicit, with scenes that smoldered.
HEA: 5/5 — a closing note of satisfaction and warmth.
Overall: 4/5 — a thoughtful, primal, and tender werewolf romance that balances vulnerability with heat.

Anya finds Vlad in the wilderness dying from his wounds. Her wolf is inexplicably drawn to him and insists they care for him.
While they have instant chemistry, neither is prepared to give in straight away because they are both harbouring secrets from the other.
They are stuck in Anya’s cabin due to a snowstorm and there is only one bed…
It takes a few nights of building trust between them before passions soar. It’s super steamy when it happens, complete with knotting and mid coital mating bond. 🥵🥵🥵
It’s gone from 0 to 100 pretty quickly, Anya gets her heat and the results are amazing 🔥🔥🔥the mating bond is solidified with the customary bite. if you have a praise k ink you are going to love Vlad, I know I do! 💦
Anya’s past catches up to her and she finally tells Vlad her story. To be honest, the snippet we get is still quite vague but I assume it will be expanded on later. She is kidnapped and Vlad is gravely injured.
Anya was held captive as a ‘broodmare’ and both physically and sexually assaulted by Roan which is what caused her to flee her pack, now back in his clutches she holds on to the tiniest sliver of hope that her mate has survived his wounds and will come for her.
It takes some time but eventually with help from his packs, both past and present, Vlad find his way to Anya. The discovery of a surprise addition tying the story off nicely.
I’ve absolutely loved this one. The storyline and world were interesting, the smexy times were great and I really love Vlad. 😍 I will definitely be reading more from Silvana.

I really loved reading this book I was hooked from the start until the very end, the story was written well and the characters were amazing. This book was about Vladimir Volkov (Vlad) and Anya, Vlad has been wanting to find a certain shifter “Grisha Vorobyev" when Vlad's Enforcer Enrico, has been looking for the snake the monster who killed his brothers mate, Vlad vowed he won’t stop looking for the monster that tried to kill his brother. Vlad is now flying to "Sestroretsk" where his brother is on holidays and that's where they spotted Grisha. When Vlad rolled up to his brothers holiday house his brother was already gone, the monster was now after Graviil, Vlad is following, running through the woods he found a female being attacked so Vlad tried to help, he was winning the fight until the monster threw her and that killed her, then the monster turned on him and left him for dead. Anya is a wolf shifter that was kicked out of her pack she is quiet and is also an artist, she was on her way home when she heard a moan, her wolf wanted to go to them. Anya was fighting with herself her wolf wanted to lay next to him but could she trust him. Vlad was recovering really quickly Anya thought it could be her doing it. When Vlad was back on his feet he had a lot of shifters wanting to join his pack, Vlad and Anya were getting closer and closer and the chemistry was hot and electrified, then she went in heat she thought she was sick and he told her she is in heat that they are fated mates. Things were going really well until her past came back kidnapped her after they stabbed Vlad. Will he survive to get his mate back.
My oh my! This is a fantastic installment in the Bad Boys series by Mrs. Sanchéz. This is Vlad and Anya's story.
I shed sad tears, happy tears and towards the end, with what happened to Grisha, I laughed so hard I cried some more. I couldn't put it down.
It turns out that Vlad is actually Garviil's brother. Now if you've read about Gavriil before, you know he's a bear shifter yet Vlad is a wolf. It does explain how they are brothers and it is a sad yet heartwarming story. Vlad is the Alpha of a Roman pack.
Anya is a lone wolf in Russia with no pack. She lives a solitary life making a living as a painter and though it's lonely, she's comfortable with it. Her horrific backstory comes to the forefront around an Alpha named Roan. He's a ba$tard by the way.
Vlad heads to Russia for a family matter that quickly turns to an emergency. A family enemy, Grisha, has been on a killing spree and Vlad narrowly escapes. He is beaten near death. Anya is strolling the forest enjoying the night when her inner wolf tugs and pulls her in Vlad's direction. Then in wolf form she finds him and consoles him and licks his wounds. She even nuzzles against him because the pull is so strong. She ends up taking him to her home to nurse him back to health. Little did she know what would become of that act of kindness. It affects her and Vlad's life so profoundly.
This book has everything. Two villains, brutality, pure love, loyalty, two battles (1 small, 1 big), spice, spice (yes, I said it twice) and a fantastic HEA.
ONE CLICK WORTHY IN EVERY WAY, TWO THUMBS UP & 5 STARS!!!
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS AND ALL SILVANA SANCHÉZ BOOKS. YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED.
Some love stories feel like destiny. This one feels like war—a brutal, breathtaking fight for survival, redemption, and a love that refuses to die. Runt of the Pack isn’t just another fated mates romance; it’s a visceral, pulse-pounding tale of two wolves who have spent their lives on the outskirts—one cast out, one clawing his way back in.
Vladimir Volkov should be the strongest of them all. An Alpha. A leader. But after one savage night, he’s stripped of everything—his power, his status, his pack. Left for dead, fate delivers him a second chance in the form of Anya Sokolov, the rogue omega who saves him. An artist who paints her loneliness in colors no one sees. A woman who’s spent her life in the shadows, unseen and unclaimed—until him.
Anya and Vlad’s connection is primal, undeniable, but fate doesn’t care about happy endings. Their bond is forbidden, their enemies are many, and pack law doesn’t forgive weakness. As the past comes back to haunt them both, they’re forced to make a choice—bow to the pack or burn the rules to the ground.
This book is pure fire. The forced proximity crackles with tension, the forbidden romance is deliciously dangerous, and every stolen moment between Vlad and Anya simmers with the kind of heat that could melt the snow around them. Silvana G. Sánchez doesn’t write safe love—she writes love that bleeds for its right to exist.
If you crave fated mates with teeth, a broken Alpha who will fight until his last breath, and an omega who refuses to be anyone’s prey, Runt of the Pack will own you from page one. Prepare to feel this one. 🔥🐺.
I received an advanced review copy of this book, and these are my honest opinions.
Themes: Only one bed Forced proximity Hurt/comfort/healing Omegaverse
Thoughts: This was a really gentle book about two lonely souls finding comfort and belonging together. Both MCs had their trauma and things they were hiding from, but it was so lovely to watch them find some peace.
Vlad, our MMC, was alpha of his pack in Rome but left them behind to go and help his brother who was in danger. He failed and, in the aftermath of a brutal fight, he is left severely wounded and feeling like he could never return to his pack. I occasionally became a little confused by this reasoning but I suppose it's a pride thing?
He's rescued by Anya, our FMC, who is a lone omega after running from her old pack. She takes him back to her little cabin to heal him and as the days pass they are drawn to each other more and more until the tension is too much to bear.
Speaking of, the romantic tension was really well written and the spice, when it happened, was wonderful. The relationship felt very natural - this isn't a "normal" omegaverse book because designations can't be scented and fated mates are not instantly spotted, so there was more build up and time spent getting to know each other, which I felt really worked.
The writing throughout was lyrical and washed over you - unusual but very pleasant. Overall this was a cosy read perfect for a winter's evening and I really enjoyed it.
Quick and spicy wolf shifter romance with violence and battles for the protection of the pack.
Vlad is an Alpha wolf shifter with a pack in Rome but he left the Ursa Bear Shifter pack where he was raised (after he was discharged as the runt of the litter). He received news that his brother, the Alpha of the Ursa Bear Shifter pack, may be endanger and flies back to Russian to redeem his honor and protect his Bear family. However, he is seriously wounded trying to protect his brother's mate -- and a beautiful white wolf (Anya) rescues him. After a few days in close proximity to each other, they realize that they are fated mates. But Anya has dangers that she is running from that could end their lives. Can their love withstand the dangers?
While this book is part of a series, I read it as a standalone and really enjoyed it. I may try to read some of the series now that I have a brief introduction to the world via this book.
My only strike against this book is that a few times it is unclear if Vlad is in his human or wolf form. It's not a big thing but it could bother your reading experience.
