Seven Days to TexasWith a name like Nick Dartmouth, and the fortune it comes with, it's hard not to have a reputation for getting everything you want. So when his former secretary steps onto his foundation's charity auction block, Nick has the perfect opportunity to woo the stunning beauty from Texas. But aggressive counterbids force him to make an extreme proposition. Except money itself doesn't guarantee a blissful ride off into the sunset, especially when being won goes against the willful nature of McCall Johnson. Intent on showing Nick they come from two very different--and incompatible--worlds, she's surprised by how well he can handle a horse. For a girl from Texas, that speaks volumes about a man's value. Maybe there's more to this playboy than she expected. . .66,000 Words
The Tycoon And The Texan is such a fun-steamy romance. It's pure pleasure. But don't let Phyliss Miranda fool you, she's a much deeper author than just romance, the mystery incorporated was intriguing. Nick Dartmouth and McCall Johnson are two of the most hilarious individuals I've ever met and their personalities are combustible. Halfway through this book Ms. Miranda threw some twist that absolutely stunned me and had me reading and turning pages so fast. I was so thoroughly engrossed in this fabulous story and with the shock, I had to see what was about to happen next. This is truly a special romance between Nick & McCall that just warmed my heart. The conclusion is spectacular and heartfelt..
I tried really hard to read this but "the salty liquid" reminding her of his kiss did me in. this was awful the characters are awkward and unlikeable with baggage the author takes far too long to flesh out. the writing is atrocious with cliches even I've never seen in all my years of romance reading. it was completely laughable and not in a good way. the dialogue was so hokey and was more a bad stereotype of a texan than what texas is really like. literally no redeeming qualities about this book...so glad I didn't pay for it
I would consider this book a beach/vacation read. A light, read & take in the story as it comes type of book. It was a quick, predictable light romance with a nice sweet story to go along with it.
This was a semi-original storyline about a rich man who was already in love with a girl & he spent the entire book trying to convince her that he was the one for her. He was rich & she wasn't. If I analyze the story too much,I find myself nit-picking silly points, so I quit absorbing the book & took it as it came. The addition to a past trauma in McCall's (female lead) life seemed to be written in as an attempt at making this book a deeper read. It did not do that for me..
I did like this book, but I wasn't a lover... But at times I hunt for this type of quick read if I'm looking for something I don't want to invest my soul in. I'm not sure if that makes sense. But... the best way I can describe a soul investing book, is one that you're still thinking about the characters like they are real, long after you finish the book... This one didn't leave me that way at all!
I am giving The Tycoon and the Texan a three star because there were a number if good qualitues in the story. I really want to like it but it just doesn't feel right. It is hard to explain ... the premise is good but I kept getting confused.
The transitions were choppy and I kept lossing track of what was happening and why. Nick would walk into the office, say something then walk out without any purpose the back in again. A conversation would be started then conflict itself before it ended. The characters were interesting but not fully developed.
It was almost like the storyteller was on a mind altering drug at the time. Not inferring any disrespect to Ms. Miranda, as I don't beieve it was deliberate. When a person is depressed or on some meds, what appears to make perfect sense to you doesn't to anyone else.
There were an abundance of ciche's.
If you are looking for a good storyline and can overlook and see past the issues above, I could recommend it. I would love to see a rewrite of the story published.
I'm not rating this because it's a DNF read for me. I gave up at 42%.
Obviously I'm not the target reader fan for this read which features a disillusioned billionaire who has worked alongside his personal assistant McCall without noticing her. At a charity bachlorette auction the interest is peaked and a sweet romantic tale ensues where Nico finally sees what's been under his nose all the time.
I feel like this book was all over the place. There were ghosts which didn't contribute anything to the story, a troubled past, secrets, miscommunication that was solved incredibly quickly, and insta love. The romance was cute, but the book felt like it wasn't fulled flushed out. Also, I love nicknames in books but I couldn't stand that he called her Angel Eyes. There was a big focus on doing things the Texas way. A lot of it was very true and quite funny, but it was overdone.
3 stars I received this book for free in return for an honest review.
Thid rbppk hsd been in my Nook library since March 2014 when I downloaded it for free frrom Barnes and Noble. It was an entertaining romance, iIf you enjoy that genre, I would recommend it.
“THE TYCOON & THE TEXAN“, by Phyliss Miranda, is almost 200 pages of pure sass & Texas twang! I received a copy of this novel in exchange for this honest review, via NetGalley, and thought it was a really fun little book. It releases on September 5th and is currently on pre-order for $4.99.
Nick, the Tycoon, is from a wealthy family and always gets what he wants. McCall, the Texan, is his former secretary and now works for his mother. At a charity auction, Nick sees his chance and bids on McCall – and then has 7 days to prove to her that he is more than just a tycoon. However much they like/lust/love each other, they are both holding back information… and there can be no relationship without true honesty & communication.
I was actually surprised to see that this book was published by eKensington; it really smacked of a Harlequin to me. Lots of drama… rich vs. poor… the male character becoming more “human”… etc… The “high drama” (read: emotional outbursts that equaled me in a menopausal hormonal rage) got to be a bit annoying and I don’t know if it was just my “mood” at the time I started to read the book or not, but I actually ended up setting it aside for a few weeks then picking it back up to finish. Once I got past those first few chapters I did start to get drawn into the story – but for some reason it just didn’t grab ME (might be different for YOU!) at first. There are some really cute portions of Nick learning McCall’s Texas traditions & slang, and a few chuckles can be had with a fishing hook.
Just a nice little summer afternoon read if you want to escape!

Nick Dartmouth is a rich man who works hard at his construction company and his mothers foundation, but he has a bit of an attitude and is always fighting with his mother. He doesn't do commitment and the only time he proposed to someone his mother ran her off.
McCall Johnson is a shy girl who is working to pay for her mothers tombstone and has paid for all the medical bills. Both her father and mother are dead leaving her with just her grandma.
McCall is forced into helping the charity foundation by being one of the girls that they auctioneer off. When Nick bids an obscene amount for her she is angry at him for embarrassing her as she does not feel that she deserves such a price.
Nick has paid three thousand pounds for a week of her time and makes sure that he gets his week with her trying to prove that they are not all that different from each other.
Forced into close proximity with each other sparks fly and they find that they do like each other and get on very well indeed. He shows her what he likes and she shows him what she likes, and together they find things that work.
You can tell right from the beginning that his mother and Josie another employee have plotted to put these two together and the sparks do indeed say that they plan was a good idea.
My favourite part? When she accidentally hooks Nick in the butt with a fishing hook!! :)
A light-hearted romance, perfect for a sunny day reading on the beach and a fairly quick read.
This ARC was provided by Kensington Books via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Initially I was intrigued by the plot but the more I read of the book, the more I became disinterested. Nick has had the hots for his assistant McCall since they began working together years ago, and vice versa. However, it took a ridiculous charity auction for him to finally put the moves on her. Not sure why exactly. Nick is used to always getting his way with women for the most part but somehow McCall throws him for a loop because she doesn't fall for his typical playboy maneuvers. McCall has her own problems, including the recent passing of her mother and financial woes.
The summary of the book made it seem like there would be more cohesive drama but it turned out not be the case. Throw in a random trip to an island, meddling relatives, a secret inheritance, a sexually abusive past, a ghost on a couch, and McCall's constant whining about how the she and Nick come from completely different worlds, and I ended up rushing through the book just to mark it as "read." I couldn't relate to the characters because they ended up both whining about trivial "first world problems" and fighting their romance for no apparent reason. Also, if McCall was the only one from Texas, why was almost every character speaking in Southernisms? And McCall's incessant use of the nickname "slugger" for Nick grated my nerves. Quick read but not convinced it was worth the time and energy.
The Tycoon and The Texan was a fun modern yet old fashion western romance. Let me explain. It had all the modern conveniences of today, cell phones, Lear jets, and other gadgets. But McCall Johnson was anything but a modern girl, she was a born and raised Texas born girl from out on the range. Where Nick Dartmouth her boss or should I say her old boss and the son or her current boss, Madeline, is the polar opposite. He is a California born Millionaire several times over from old mine who is used to getting whatever he wants. McCall has always wished it would be her and well that has never been in the cards. It was sealed when he transferred her to work for her mother after years of working for him. On this day though it is the night of the big charity event where they are to have the Charity Auction of Bachelorettes and they were short one bachelorette. Nick’s mom comes up with the idea to auction off McCall. All seem good with that idea until that night when Nick sees her arrive with an Adonis that has his paws all over her and is leering at her like a piece of meat. The stakes of the action have now changed. Maybe there is a reason for him to be at his mother’s awful charity event when he usually seeks off. This is a fun easy read that makes you want to read more. The characters have heart and values. There is a part that the characters share their past that is gut wrenching. I totally enjoyed this story. Provided by netgalley.com
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in place of an honest review.
McCall has been working for Nick for years and they have had a great time being friends. When Nick started having feelings for McCall he sent her to work for his mom. Everything goes according to plan until the night of the fundraiser and McCall has to take the place of the sick bachelorette. It is for charity but she doesn't want to be embarrassed and not bring any money in.
This book was very entertaining. When I heard Nick's last night it made me think of star wars. Just the name of Dartmouth makes me laugh and that is something this book had a lot of. Laughter is something I like when I am reading a book, along with the romance. Both Nick and McCall are hiding things and they are quiet surprising.
This is a story about learning to trust others and your feelings. One character is used to having everything he wants and this time he has to take things slow and just hang on for the ride. In this story you will have a mom that is always looking out for her son and sometimes taking it too far, a grandma who will do what she can for her granddaughter, and a little old ghost. I couldn't ask for a better story than I got with this one.
Nick Dartmouth is used to getting everything he wants; He is very wealthy and works for his fortune. McCall seems like a small town girl, quiet and shy at first. She is the secretary to Nick’s mother; she is working to save money trying to pay for her mother’s tombstone. McCall has some deep scars.
Nick is super sexy and completely out of McCall’s league. McCall is forced into helping out a charity fundraising even, and that is when the story gets interesting. McCall is determined to show Nick they are way to different and Nick is determined to show McCall they really re not different at all.
This story was beautiful, funny, sexy it was really a little bit of everything. I found the plot progressively got better and better right until the end of the book. The story takes you on a journey, and lessons can easily be learned in this story. Thought it was extremely well written and easy to follow. This is a romance book you will want to read in one sitting. I couldn’t put it down!! Enjoy!!
This was a sweet little romance. A few things annoyed me, parts of the story that did nothing except fill space, there was no need for it. Like the whole Agnes ghost thing. It was entirely unnecessary. But all in all it's cute. A rich playboy who falls for his assistant. She doesn't want to be another toy to him. I found myself rolling my eyes at some of their conversations. They were so unbelievable that you could tell it was made up. It was definitely forced and didn't feel natural in a story like this. I did laugh a few times, but all in all, there's nothing in this story that gripped me or made me say wow. If you just want something sickly sweet to indulge an afternoon then read this. If you want a more fulfilling love story, find something else.
The Tycoon and the Texan is a sweet, fun, light, satisfying romance. Ms. Miranda has offered us an interesting premise and laughter inducing situations that make this novel a great afternoon's diversion. Sometimes I just want to read something light, predictable in that I know there will be a happy ending and no cliff hanger; and this certainly fit my needs. The dialogue was witty, the lead couple's journey to the realization that they fit together was well plotted, the meddlesome secondary characters were strong, and the ending quite satisfying. *I received my copy from NetGalley.com in exchange for an honest review.
This was a good story. McCall has been Nick's personal assistant for a number of years. She has always been able to keep her attraction to him under control. Nick's mother puts McCall in a auction for charity. Nick bids on her and wins a week with McCall, now what will she do. You have to read this one as they go to different places and do several things along their journey to each other. this is a good read
The Tycoon and the Texan is a lighthearted read due to release in early September. This book is reminiscent of an Entangled read. I really liked the short and to the point romance.
The Tycoon and the Texan by Phyliss Miranda I just couldn't put this one down. It is a modern western romance with Nick the tycoon and McCall the texan. When McCall is forced into a Bachelorette auction, Nick bids on her to win. And the sparks start to fly when they get together. They find that they have a lot in common with each other. This is a great read. Nice job Phyliss.
I had fun reading this. I liked the characters. However, I did kind of feel like there were just too many "misunderstandings" in the plot, particularly the last one which really seemed to have no purpose except to get McCall to go to Texas first. The connection at the end was obvious, but the characters made the read worthwhile.
This book was a mix between interesting and ridiculous. There was a lot of pointless content, which made it unbelievably silly. The funny thing is that once I had invested in reading it, I felt compelled to complete it. I just knew something good had to come. I was rooting for this couple, but come on. In the end, I'll say that it was a likable story but just too much.
I agree with Jessica about the hokey dialogue. It completely ruined any chance I might have had to enjoy the story. As a native Texan, I was shocked to read that the author is a native Texan. I'm glad I got this one free.
I almost didn't read the book because it had several not so great reviews. I guess those that rated it low probably like other styles of book instead of this. I did find McCall to be irritating at times but overall liked the book.
As a native Texan, I am down right offended by the generalizations and characterizations in this book. Top it off with an unrealistic story, unbelievable characters, and too many misunderstandings to keep straight and this book is just plain bad.
This was a fast simple read. Lot's of misunderstanding between the H/h. Neither one seems to understand that communication is the key to building a relationship. Book was just short on plot and character building.
