Kristine is beautiful, smart, driven, and all set to have everything she wants in life. That is, until an ill-fated encounter alters the path she’s chosen in such a way that she’s forced to make the kind of life-altering decisions no woman should ever have to face. While waking up naked in a strange bed with a couple she barely knew wasn’t Kristine’s choice, how she deals with the consequences of that night creates a series of shocking choices that have a domino effect of turmoil to those close to her . Not everyone agrees with the direction Kristine’s life takes, but ultimately, she learns that strength and forgiveness can come from the most unfortunate of circumstances.
Consequences, Martha Kennerson Genre: Romance, Women's Fiction Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews I was in the mood for a straightforward romance so started this one. Kristine is a beautiful, hardworking student, two lovely parents and close family all round, and financially secure due to a future trust fund. Falls in love with Dennis – but...she’s got a kind of boyfriend and Dennis has a girlfriend. She chats to her man, Mitch and sorts things, and thinks Dennis has done the same with Colby, and for a while its happy, happy, happy. Then she finds out Dennis hasn’t exactly sorted things, he’s going to marry Colby, something arranged a long time back by the families. and he thinks that he can’t abandon their plans, however much he loves her, family duty and all that. Of course she’s heartbroken, the calls between them get increasingly acrimonious, and Dennis says some harsh things, and that sorrow leads to the events that end with her facing some huge, life changing decisions. Well, that’s the start and it sounds so promising but...for me there wasn’t really enough story. If this had been one of those short stories with a twist at the end, it would have been a good read – except of course I don’t read shorts as they just don’t have enough content. That's how I felt about this – its well written, but there’s so little real plot, just a series of what should Kristine do, and who she’ll end with questions and scenarios, that it just does nothing for me. I’m sorry about that but there it is. It just felt to me like we’re going over and over the same things, with some daily life bland scenes thrown in to lengthen the story. That’ how I feel but of course we’re back to that subjectivity and I can see this already has some huge fans. I guess if you like a story with meat and depth like me ( and I mean that in a nice way, I;m not being sarky) then this may not suit but if you want sweet and light with a sharp twist then this may well be right up your street. Stars: Two, sorry but this just didn’t cut it for me. ARC provided by Netgalley and publishers.
Kristine is a traumatized college student with PTSD with nightmares that haunt her every dream. She has an ex boyfriend Dennis, the only man she loved so completely and so passionately. Although Dennis had a girlfriend, Kristine still felt like he was something special. Their relationship was one of a kind, Dennis treated her like his queen and Kristine ate it up adoringly. He was passionate, unselfish, and always had Kristine on his mind.
Dennis chose Kristine initially instead of following his family's wishes for an arranged marriage to someone else. Eventually in the end, he gave in and accepted the arranged marriage, thus ending it with Kristine.
After the breakup, Kristine has an encounter at a party with two wild party animals who are into drugs and kinky sex. They are the ones responsible for Kristine's nightmares and her anxiety problems she endures every single day. Fortunately she had her roommate and friends nearby to help her through it, but this sort of thing doesn't go away quickly no matter how much support you have.
On her road down recovery, she gets even more devastating news that changes everything she had planned for her future. It doesn't help that she's attending the University of Texas and is a very good student.
She is an extremely likable character, everyone seems to like her, and wants to be around her. Even the boy she grew up across the street from. It's always good to see a character like Kristine, overcome her past while keeping her head up and focused on what she wants. I'm glad the book was written from her point of view, she's a strong and loving woman.
Wow! Consequences: Betrayal. Sacrifice. Passion by Martha Kennerson is a well-written novel. This novel’s title explains it all. The emotions and believability Kennerson bestowed in Kristine’s character moved me. It was as if I were one of Kristine’s closest friends experiencing it all: the happy times and the not so happy times. The novel Consequences tells the story of young Kristine’s life. A young privileged woman with nothing but good things professed in her future, Kristine for lack of better had the “good life.” As the saying goes “All Good things must come to an end,” tragedy strikes young Kristines life. Kennerson takes us, the readers, on a journey on how Kristine deals with the struggles of life. She learns about herself and she learns on whose shoulder she can lean on. This is a great coming of age story; growing up fast and taking full responsibility for one’s self.
Consequences: Betrayal. Sacrifice. Passion was a great read. The tight friendships Kennerson displayed within this novel gives hope to those who may be struggling through tough times. Yes, this novel was an emotional rollercoaster; but so is life. Great job Kennerson great job.
This was my first read by this author and let me tell you I was beyond please. Two people who because of the choices they make have spent years apart. They have never stopped loving each other. Their journey back to each other is well told in this story. I was really pleased with this book.
