Another book recommended to me because of my writing, this is a favorite. Stylish and more than slightly self-aware, this book anticipates her next work, "Then, Suddenly" in that self-consciousness. Still, I prefer this harder-edged, harsher world of Emanuel's keyholes and linoleum floors. This work is "all teeth, all boat."

Gorgeous. I think I preferred The Dig poems to the Hotel Fiesta book, but on the whole, these knocked me over in a huge way, which was exactly what I needed poetry to do for me his week.

How has it taken me so long to find Lynn Emanuel? This book is Gorgeous with language and spilling over with the grittiness of life. I couldn't put it down and have already started reading it again. I didn't want it to end.

I learned how words work in this book. "Black square white square goes the linoleum."
