Introduces the society and culture of the Middle Ages, describes the way of life of the various classes and the factors that led to the end of the epoch, and details the training, equipment, beliefs, and activities of medieval knights.
Richard Lawrence Tames, born 30 January 1946, lectures on history at Syracuse University London and is a Blue Badge guide.
Tames is also a Lecturer on London’s history for the Institute of Tourist Guiding. He has written over twenty books on different aspects of English history, including Shakespeare’s London on 5 Groats a Day.
I learned quite a bit and really enjoyed the various interactive bits such as pulls, flaps, small books, acetate, and wheel turns. The information was well-organized and the illustrations were helpful. I was hoping to include this book in my fifth grade classroom, but the first half, which is about medieval history, required a lot of background knowledge since the information is in tiny snippets rather than well-developed explanations. The first half was also a bit dull. The second half focused on knights and would have been perfect by itself. A terrific book for those in middle or high school who already have some background knowledge on this time period.
