I like adult erotica as much as the next person, but even this book was a bit much for me. Yet, I rated it highly and continued to read it even while shaking my head and complaining about it to my husband and my co-worker. And I can't figure out why.
The writing was good and the scenes were steamy. The part that bothered me was that it wasn't like I was reading erotica - it's like I was reading porn. At one point, I felt like Joey and Chandler did in the episode of 'Friends' when they got free porn and finally had to turn the TV off because it was affecting their day to day life so much. I finally had to put the book down and step away because it was too much.
I then talked to my co-worker to make sure I wasn't crazy. I asked her if it was physically possible for a woman to have sex three times a day every single day for a week and she agreed with me that it was not. Tuesday would be so sore she wouldn't be able to walk. Yet, here she was ready, willing, and able, every time she turned around. Towards the end of the book she says, "It never seems to end - my lust for this man." Well, not just Shepherd, but any man who even so much as looked at her.
I wasn't bothered by the fact that she wanted to fool around with three different men - to each their own prerogative, but different men, same day, in the berry orchards, in the kitchen for all to see, on her grandmother's bed - it all seemed way too skanky. Then she was shocked near the end when someone called her a slut. Well, she is sleeping with multiple men, jumping around between them, practically flaunting it, dropping her pants on every single page - so yes, even I can get on board with the word slut.
Her "bad ass" attitude, wearing leather, and always making sure she put on motorcycle boots - even if she was just cleaning the house (who does this?) drove me crazy. Her refusal to commit to anyone because one man had broken her heart was too in your face - over and over it was thrown at you to remember that poor Tuesday had been beaten by her ex boyfriend.
The Phil / Stan / Annie thing was more mentioned to give the effect of a plot. There was no plot. There is no plot. Just sex. And yet, I'm still rating it a 4. What does that say about me?
