This is a short story Eve Rowan encounters Sam Fletcher six years after the event that changed her life, an event that he witnessed, an event that tore them apart. Can Sam convince Eve to believe in their future or is what they shared destined to remain in the past?

OMG! Found this gem on Wattpad and devoured it! Such a sweet/angsty story. Kind of reminds me of why I fell in love with Penny's books in the first place. I'm greedy! I want more of these!!!
This is a sweet fast friends to lover read with emotional depth and great characters. Our hero has always loved our heroine and our heroine has always loved our hero? So, what is the problem. Read this short and find out! Good stuff!
A few typos and we don't get to the bedroom which is a bummer because with a storyline like this where the couple works overtime to overcome trauma the bedroom is a always a compelling and healing place.
However, the make out scene and love declarations is off the hook fun! Reid is one of my favorite finds of this year. I am glad she put some short stories out while we are waiting for the second book in her series to be published.
You know the signs of an amazing romance writer? When they can capture intense sexual chemistry in 60 pages. Chemistry that makes you desire more. Chemistry that is so good, you find yourself breathing heavily and your head moving closer to your Kindle in its own attempt to see more. Also, when a writer can capture the complexities of her characters in 60 pages. In this short story, I ‘knew’ who these characters were. I felt their desires. I fell in love with them. 60 pages!
❝His eyes said, ‘Trust me.' The meaning was as clear as though he’d whispers the words in her ear.❞
Penny Reid can write the hell out of a book, a novella and probably a telephone book.
Sam has loved Eve for years. Yet, he never told her. As they grew older they moved on with their own lives. Now, Sam no longer wants to hide his feelings - he wants Eve. He knows he needs to be careful with her because of her past, but he is determined to pursue her all-the-same. When the opportunity at a party presents itself, Sam takes it and talks Eve into playing. Three Slips. One - the pair. Two - the location. Three - the forfeit. Whose names will be paired? Where will they end up? What will they have to do?
This short friends to lovers story made me wish for more. More of Eve and Sam’s story.
Sweet NA short story featuring a typical Reid hero who is compassionate and kind to a heroine recovering from trauma. The underlying trauma of rape/date rape (?) years before the events in this story could have been developed as the details are blurry, as is the role the hero plays in helping the heroine get to safety. This story takes place at a party years later and focuses on how Sam can convince Eve that she is capable of love and romance after years of shutting herself off. There isn't anything in the story that is particularly original. Courtney Milan's The Governess Affair tackles the issue of post-traumatic romance much better, but the story has Reid's trademark humor and sweetness and is worth the time.
This is a wonderful short story about a love that began between two people when they were both practically children. After a horrible event it stopped its development. But at a party it finally has a chance. Excellent story! I would love to see it grow into a novel.
Easy, quick, reminded me of fan-fiction in a way because of a storytelling, but I didn't mind it this time. I didn't expect much, didn't get much, but didn't get disappointed either.
Short story about Eve and Sam who have loved each other since childhood. They just never told each other. This shortie story is intense and gripping as expected from Penny Reid. Sam is similar to her hero Quinn from Neanderthal Seeks Human. I love Quinn and I loved Sam...
This needs to be a full length book! Penny Reid, you are blessed with an amazing talent for telling great stories. Please grace us with your writing prowess and awesomeness in the form of this book. I need Sam and Eve! (Well more Sam and Eve.) :)
Penny Reid is an amazing writer, her words flow over the pages and always pull me into the story I’m reading. She really does write smart romances. Most of the time I leave learning some new fact or something new to think about. Her characters have depth and flaws and most of the time baggage from their past. Which is how characters should be written because every person comes from a past riddled with issues and problems that have caused some sort of damage. When characters are written well, is when readers connect. I might not have experienced what Eve when through her sophomore year, but I still connected with her brokenness. We are all flawed and broken in some way, that’s just part of living. It’s how we’ve moved on from our past that makes us what we are today. With that said, I liked this short story, but I felt what happened to Eve six years earlier was a big one. I think This short story would be a great one to turn into an actual novel if the issue was handled delicately. I’d love to see Eve conquer her fears and move on from it, because a kiss from Sam definitely isn’t going to do it. Hence, my four stars instead of five. I think Eve’s past was too big to be put into a short story. You can’t be healed just from a kiss.
- friends turned lovers - great chemistry - quick read - i love “the three slips” game idea - 3 stars because it’s too short for my taste - i would love to discover more about the main characters
This was very sweet short story. Although there wasn't much space for a big plot, the past between two characters was explained very thoroughly. I admit I was expecting to read only about their present, that those gaps about their past will be left more or less to our imagination. I was pleasantly surprised about that.
A sweet tale. I'm not sure if I like H very much. I understand that he was young, but if he was really in love with the h, he wouldn't have accepted that they would date other people in college as long as they were each other's last SO. It seemed like he loved the idea of the h, but wasn't willing to give up anything for her. This was an engaging short nonetheless.
I read this as a Penny Reid fan. I found for free on Wattpad. It was about 4 chapters long and was a cute story. The chemistry between the guy and gal reminded me a little of the Chemistry series.
4 stars because it's so short, I swallowed it in one bite. wondrrful. Can we have this as a full book next? I like this group of friends and eant more ;)
