It's no surprise that I love reading romance books. This particular one fell more into the mystery genre. I would say it is 90% mystery and 10% romance.

Aurora finds her brother's journal. With the help of Donovan they head on a road trip to piece together what happened to their brothers.





Set in 1978, you can imagine the lack of technology available. There was no mobiles and hence no google so it wasn't going to be easy.

So our brothers were involved with something...

I found the story a bit slow moving for my personal liking but it is one of those books where you have to know what happened.

It was a 3 star book for me until the last 30%. I think there was potential for more romance, in which case I would have enjoyed it more. The few romance moments were lovely.

I'm putting my heart in your hands tonight...Be gentle with it

Overall if you enjoy mystery type book with a dash of romance, give it a go x

Similar to Jane Austen, Aurora Grey is a great studier of character, and she uses this to her advantage on her journey. She can read those she meets, understand their stories, and decipher their feelings just by momentarily observing them—everyone except Donnovan, that is. It is this intrigue along with the aura surrounding them that make the tension, both sexual and emotional, between the two tangible.

From the dark wood paneling, muscle cars, classic rock, pay phones, and TV antennas, Brant captured the tone and mood of the late 70s in such a way that I thought I truly was transported back in time. Couple this with the amount of research conducted to write such a realistic story, and I was wishing this were a true story, one I didn’t want to end.

As with any historical novel I read, I enjoy comparing that time to present day. I love seeing how things have changed. As I read The Road to You, I enjoyed comparing the differences between 1978 and now: gas was only $0.61 per gallon, a Chicago theater played 4 movies—and that was a lot!—and it only took a dime to make a call on the pay phone…a payphone! (are they even around anymore?) My how times have changed!

There are several attributes I have encountered with each Marilyn Brant book I have read: true-to-life characters—perfectly flawed and dynamic—descriptions that easily transport readers to the present setting, a gamut of feelings felt, analogies and other figurative language that connect to the plot on several levels, all woven together so masterfully it creates a remarkable web, sure to trap any reader.


Every facet of The Road to You was meticulously executed. If you enjoy reading about days of old, self-discovery, travel, romance, mystery, or the new adult genre, I can’t recommend The Road to You enough.

To say that I loved this book would be a vast understatement. The Road to You truly captivated me, and I did not want to put it down until the final page. Even after the final page, the story has stuck with me in the best of ways. This is a true genre-bender--a book that is always suspenseful and smart, and sometimes romantic, that should appeal to adults and teens alike, with twists that are anything but predictable and a conclusion that will satisfy in unanticipated ways. You'll come to care about Aurora and her quest, and care for Gideon too, whether or not you ever meet him. I hope that Marilyn Brant writes more stories in the vein of The Road to You. It's truly wonderful.

A perfect book to read while on the road or traveling! The mystery was thrilling and riveting! I was spellbound! Marilyn Brant has such a way with details and descriptions - I felt like I was a virtual passenger on this road trip with Aurora and Donavan! But now I want to take my own tour of Route 66 and see all the sights they did for real! Loved the twists, the suspense, and the journey! The only thing I'd like would be for a little more romance at times. Because of the mystery and dangerous situations, the love story between Aurora and Donavan kind of took the backseat sometimes...(horrible pun intended!) Another fabulous and exquisite story by Marilyn Brant!

I almost gave up on The Road to You with all the violence surrounding our children's schools and the national events. I thought it would be too much in addition to all the drama hovering around my own daughter. It started to ring a little too close to home ; alas I'm glad I didn't give up on it.

While mysteries normally aren't my cup of tea unless it's heavily cloaked in romance. I'm woman enough to admit to admit I was completely drawn into the search for the two friend who vanished without a trace. While you can read between the lines of the budding relationship between Aurora and Donavan; the search for their missing brothers always remained the goal. And the mystery surrounding the circumstances is as much a character as the character themselves.

When the journal that Aurora brother was always writing in made a sudden appearance two years after the boys disappear . Aura can't help but know it's a plea from her brother to come find him. 17-year-old Aurora then enlist the older brother of Jeremy (her brothers best friend) Donavan (who she has crushed on forever and a day) to help her search. Reluctantly Donavan accompanies Aurora on a short trip to put an end to Aurora delusions only to discover more in 24-hours than the police did in two years. Thus begins Aurora and Donavan's road trip down Rt. 66 to uncovering the truth behind the brother's sudden an mysterious disappearance moments where they are afraid to hope and moments where they desperate to know the truth. Though as the reader towards the end it was clear who the bad cops were, still the mystery of what happened to the missing friends wasn't. However, when things come to a head and everything is out in the open- it was an ending I never expected. And one you will have to read to know for yourself. Sorry NO SPOILERS here!!

What an emotional journey both Aurora and Donavan themselves on. My only grumble of a complaint isn't much of one at all. I was just a little disappointed that the author after the big reveal continued to wrap things up in a nice tightly bow assuring the reader of this being a single. I for one could smell a trilogy had it ended at a certain point- such as a second book as a possible follow up on the events of the missing friends that lead to the siblings search and beyond. Can't say too much or I will give up the goods. As well as a third book that follows up on all the characters and relations that put the tight bow back in place.

On a side note I read I read The Road to You from my kindle and it was very difficult to see the inserts from the journal entries. I had to stop and expand the lettering height and it was still difficult. Though I'm not sure anything can be done about this.

All and all you can see and read that my mystery reviews are lacking. But please don't let this stop you. I did enjoy the book. If you enjoy realistic mysteries with some coy romance between the lines you can't pass this up.

One final thing.... I agree with Donavan, "Disco is a Fad!"

It started when she found the key to the tool shed and Gideon’s journal with it. Gideon and his best friend, Jeremy had been missing, or presumed dead for more than two years, but after reading the contents of her journal, suddenly Aurora found herself hoping that everything she was led to believe for is a lie.


The journal is filled with numbers and coded messages. Aurora decided to follow the lead that Gideon has left on his journal. She asked help from the person who had suffered the same lost as she did, Jeremy’s older brother, Donovan. A guy she had been crushing on for quite a while.


Donovan already accepted Jeremy’s demise, and didn’t want to stir trouble. But he also didn’t want Aurora to go alone. So against better judgment, they set out on a road trip, bumping into danger, hoping to discover more than what the police did in the past, and finally answer some questions they’d been dying to ask…


What started out to be a road trip and a simple quest to know the truth



– turned out to be something dangerous… it was more than what they bargained for.


I have never known a more perceptive and insightful person as Aurora. Her talent in observation is commendable, and she’d made a good detective once she’s out of the uni. She didn’t need super powers to know your thoughts or which team do you belong. I love her determination to find out the truth. On the other hand, I admire Donovan’s determination to wait until she was eighteen . He promised her father he would take care of her, and he did. His judgment might have failed a couple of times, but he didn’t fail to protect her. I like the fact that he waited patiently, before he acted on his attraction. He’s a total gentleman.


I fell in love with the plot, the clues, the suspense, the thrill, the car chase, and not to mention – the twist. It may have started out slow, but when it the story finally picked up, I was HOOKED. It wasn’t just a love story, it was an adventure that had me on the edge of my bed, with my pulse way beyond normal, and my brain working overtime – what will happen? Are Gideon and Jeremy alive? Will the bad guys catch up on them?


It may have been set on somewhere in the past but Marilyn Brant will take you on the ride of your lives.

I really enjoyed reading The Road to You! It was a pleasure for me to step back in time and take a trip down Route 66 in this coming-of-age romantic mystery!

When Aurora finds her brother’s journal (her brother and his best friend, Jeremy have been missing and presumed dead for two years now) she turns to the only other person whom she can trust to help her on her quest to find out what happen to them... Donovan. The thing is... Donovan, who is Jeremy’s older brother, is also the last person she wants to be around. He makes her nervous, every nerve in her body comes alive just thinking about him. Together they set off on an adventure with the hope of finding their brothers alive.

I love the chemistry between Aurora and Donovan! Aurora has always been attracted to Donovan, and he’s always felt there was something special about Aurora, but in the past she was too young. Spending so much time on the road together only intensify these feelings, but they need to put them aside to concentrate on the task at hand; finding Gideon and Jeremy.

Donovan, who Aurora calls Mr. Tall, Dark and Intense, is really very sweet and protective of Aurora - even though he’s a tough guy on the outside.

I liked Aurora’s intuition; her ability to read people. She can see much deeper into people than what’s on the surface. (It’s a quality that appeals to Donovan too.) Aurora always felt everyone might be wrong about Gideon; that maybe he was still alive. After all his body was never found, and the investigation ended all-too-soon to Aurora's way of thinking.

I also loved that The Road to You is set in the late 70’s. Aurora and Donovan are without many of the conveniences we have today, like cell phones, internet and GPS. To do research, they would have to find a library in whatever town they were in and study old newspapers that were stored on microfiche.

It was fun trying to figure out the mystery with the clues in the journal and the information Aurora and Donovan picked up along the way. The Road to You kept me guessing all the way to the end!

I loved The Road to You! I found myself wanting to listen to some of my favorite bands from the 70’s! I definitely would recommend this one!

But it was too late. My world had already tilted and, suddenly, I knew I was playing a very different game.

The Road to You was my first experience with this author and let me tell you, it kept me riveted from the very first page until the last. If you came hoping for romance, you will get a taste, but it most certainly isn’t in the forefront, and you won’t see it until the end. This is a story of right and wrong, of friendship, of loyalty. Get ready to take a trip down memory lane, to a time long forgotten, yet still in the hearts of many.

The problem was my overwhelming helplessness in facing my true self. I didn’t know how to stop myself from understanding too much. From perceiving too many signals. From being so aware that it hurt.

Aurora’s brother Gideon and Donovan’s brother Jeremy disappeared without a trace almost two years ago. No one saw this coming, and for both families, life has ceased to exist. In the summer of ’78 Aurora randomly finds a key to a box that had long since disappeared, leading her to her brothers’ journal. Aurora, already suspicious that the journal would show up after all this time, notices that there are new entries. Holding onto the hope that their brothers could still be alive, she and Donovan take off for parts unknown.

But I never felt any such fear within these four walls. In a library, there was always hope, a sense of fresh discovery and the comfort or being surrounded by the wisdom of the world’s brightest minds.

Even with the absence of heavy romance and sex, I found myself not even missing it! The depths and layers this story takes you to will have you guessing the outcome until the very end. I loved that I wasn’t able to guess from the beginning how it would all end. There was nothing predictable about The Road to You at all! 4.5 star read for me!

I've never thought of myself as a big fan of fictional intrigue and mystery until I recalled how much I loved reading Nancy Drew as a child and Encyclopedia Brown. I think I just got caught up in the hype surrounding them. When Marilyn Brant first informed her readers her upcoming book was a YA/NA mystery novel, I was certainly interested, but a little worried about whether or not I was going to enjoy it. I shouldn't have.

The story is really very interesting. I had no idea some of the things that happened in this book could happen or even may have happened in the past. It all seemed surreal. The story started off with Aurora finding the journal in a place she knew it hadn't been before and noticing things in it that were suspicious. I love how determined she was to get to the bottom of her brother Gideon's disappearance. Everyone else may have written him off as a runaway or dead, but Aurora knew something didn't add up. The clues were all there but watching Aurora and Donovan piece them together was amazing.

I really enjoyed both Aurora and Donovan's characters. Aurora is uber intelligent and well versed in reading people. I did feel like that skill was one that most teenagers wouldn't have, but then Aurora isn't exactly your typical teen. I liked Donovan for accompanying her and believing in her...for the most part. I can see how he thought the journey was a waste of time and then later on too dangerous for them. There were moments when my heart was in my throat because I was worried about what was going to happen, and others where I was horrified by what had been revealed. There were some tears too.

Marilyn Brant has written a story that both impresses and captures the imagination. I love how the story is set in the past, making the events believable and exciting. The journey Aurora and Donovan take is one fraught with perils, but it's a journey nonetheless that opens both their eyes. I loved being able to go on that trip with them. I shouldn't have doubted Marilyn's ability to capture not just my interest, but other reader's as well. I do hope to read more about Aurora and Donovan in the future.

It has been two years since Gideon Gray and Jeremy McCafferty disappeared on July 4th. It happened in the year 1976. They are declared dead until the day Aurora, Gideon's sister notices the key to a wooden box were she used to keep her diary. She goes outside and notices her brother's diary and it has recent entries in it.

Aurora knows it was put there for her to find it and she knows that she has to be careful with who she tells. She goes to Donovan who was Jeremy's older brother and they head out on a journey to figure out what happened and if they are still alive. Aurora knows that her brother wanted her to find it and she will stop at nothing until she finds out the secrets.

This book was one of the best I have read. It has Aurora who loves to solve puzzles and I could connect with her on that. I love puzzles, she's just smarter than me. I just want to say that if I ate as much as Donovan does in this book I would be bigger than a house. I loved the music in this book because it was music I grew up listening to it. So it would bring back memories for me. The Route 66 thing reminded me of the movie Cars that I watch with my son. So as soon as I read that in the book that is what came to my mind.

This book was one that kept me guessing and I just wanted to hurry up and read it so I could get to the end to see what was going to happen. I couldn't do that because if I did I would've missed a great adventure and it would be like bypassing Route 66 and driving the interstate. When you take your time to visit great places then you get a better meaning of everything around you. Yes there were some sad times and times that really got my heart to racing but there were those moments that caused me to just sit back and enjoy the story.

This is the first book that I have read by this author. I just want to say what a great job she did writing this book and I really loved the characters.

While reading this book I felt like I was on a major scavenger hunt along with Aurora and Donovan. Trying to decode little hints to always figure out what the mystery is and be one step ahead in the game.

Gideon is Aurora's older brother and Jeremy is Donovan's younger brother. They have both been missing for two years and noone knew exactly what happened to them. The cops told the families that the guys must be dead and pretty much closed the investigation and left it at that. After a key to the cedar box appeared in Aurora's desk she unlocked it and found her Gideon's journal.

Aurora is known for her puzzle solving skills and thinks that Gideon has left her hints and clues in the journal to tell her exactly what happened to them. She doesn't understand some of the things written and involves Donovan who volunteers himself to join her on this journey. Little did either one of them know they would get in deeper than they expected.

This book will definitely keep you on your toes and guessing until the very end exactly what happened to the guys and whether or not they are truely still alive. You find yourself trying to figure it out with Aurora and Donovan too. You get pulled into their journey. Everything isn't butterflies and rainbows though. They come across people they should be able to trust but turn out to be bad. They have to learn who they can and can't trust. What information can be shared with their families?

Overall this was an excellent read! I don't usually read mysteries but it had enough of a romance aspect that I fell in love with the story! The author did an amazing job taking us on this journey!

Wonderful book...Loved. Exciting. Amazing...
When Aurora Gray finds a journal that belonged to her bother she doesn't know what to do with it. It's as if he left it there for her to find. Strange notes in it. And a message in it...The date made her think maybe there both still alive..He wrote something in there that lead her to believe it. Leaving her with un-answered questions after his disappearance along with his best friend. There is one person that can maybe help her.
So Making a decision to see Donovan who is Jeremy's older brother. Jeremy and her brother Gideon both disappeared together. Why she doesn't know. She shows Donovan what she's found. He just wants nothing to do with it. Well Aurora is going with or without him. Donovan can't let that happen. On there journey they find some interesting things about there brothers. Some are good, some are bad. It's there hope they could still be alive. The notes are start to make sense.

The Road they travel leads them to more questions. Some answers are given, but it's getting dangerous at one point. Who can they trust? If anyone.

Making a decision to let it go maybe. But being together with Donovan she feels some powerful attraction and can't let it go.

So what will they find out? Will the questions they have be answered?

Highly recommend this book. So much excitement. Touching moments. Laughing, crying. Just beautifully written.

I have to say, that once I started this book, I couldn't seem to put it down. I found myself trying to figure out what the clues were and what they meant. I truly enjoyed reading this well written book and I'm sure you will too.Aurora, our heroine, is pulled into the mystery of what happened to her brother, Gideon, and his best friend, Jeremy. She is very good at solving puzzles, but needs help and it comes in the form of Donovan. She has always had a thing for Donovan. Together they follow the trail of “breadcrumbs” Aurora finds in her brother’s journal.The book keeps you wondering right up to the end about where the brothers/best friends are. The relationship between Aurora and Donovan is complex and heartwarming. It renews your hope in justice, which has suffered several blows throughout the book.

I would recommend this to everyone and know they will enjoy the journey.The Road to You is a satisfying YA/NA mystery with a touch of romance.

I loved this book so very much. Aurora is a smart, fearless, determined young heroine - someone I admired from the second I met her. I was right there on the journey with her and was *dying* for her to solve the mystery of her brother's disappearance. And Donovan McCafferty? Gosh, how I loved him. Loved watching his relationship with Aurora unfold. Their friendship and romance put a huge smile on my face and the ending is just perfect! Swoon-worthy and gorgeous. I want more Aurora and Donovan, Ms. Brant!

Had read a book years ago and was happy to get a review copy for this one as the description fascinated me and I knew the author would write an incredible story.
Started out with visiting the author's site where the pictures that go along with the journey are shown. Talk about first hand knowledge of the path they took!
Book starts with table of contents and soundtrack of the story.
A note to the reader is included.
Starts out with Aurora and she's found a journal from her dead brother Gideon. He and his friend Jeremy, Donovan's brother had died two years ago and the families had no understanding as to what happened. Love how Gideon knew his sister so well he could leave her clues that only she'd understand.
Aurora and Donovan head out together to solve some of the hidden meanings.
They start a journey 3 hours away and ask the right questions of other and find out things they didn't even know the boys were interested in.
They then follow it to Chicago where they find a women, Amy Lynn who knew them.
So much danger as they are given so much more information and are able to see them both on film.
Love how the clues lead them to other places. Aurora has a feeling the boys are still alive but everybody has said they are dead and they had funerals for them years ago.
Love how they get tidbits of information from others and just piece them all together, leading to what they don't know what they will find at the end...
Love how the author does her homework on the subject. Love Aurora's choice of study-perfect fit.
WOW a book hasn't touched me like this in a long time. I still have tears in my eyes as I finish this story.
There is so much to it: undercover, FBI, corrupt cops, disappearances, killings, puzzles, travel, love, fireworks, Rt. 66, high profile crimes, adventure, mystery, bond Aurora and Donovan have as they spend a lot of time together and so much more!

“Road To You” by Marilyn Brant was a unique mature YA story that was filled with suspense, twists and turns, heartache, loss, love and learning to accept oneself.

The story is set in the 70s and it is so well-researched and so well-written that within the first few pages you will travel back in time and be emerged into a different world. A time full of contradictions – disco & rock, sexual revolution & old-fashioned values, emancipation & traditional expectations, peace & war. Definitely not an easy time to grow up.

Especially not for Aurora, a young girl with extraordinary perceptive & intuitive abilities. Those make it hard for her to form a real connection with others as she can more often than she’d like to read between the lines and therefore know what people are really thinking and if they are being honest. Having thought her brother Gideon and his friend Jeremy to be dead, she is surprised to find Gideon’s journal with a recent entry. Resolved to find out the truth, she sets out on a journey. On her journey she is accompanies by Donovan, Jeremy’s brother.

The trip turns out to be a challenge for both of them as their opinions and approach to things clash at times. While Aurora likes to follow her intuition, Donovan likes to follow rules and logic. But he soon has to learn that logic can’t solve this mystery and that both him and Aurora have to learn to compromise. The trip is not made easier by the fact that Aurora has had feelings for Donovan since she can remember and being this close to him isn’t helping with the rollercoaster of emotions she is on. The underlying sexual tension and suppressed attraction between those two, with a hint of jealousy, makes me wonder how Aurora survived the road trip without losing her sanity.

As the trip becomes more dangerous and adventurous, Aurora and Donovan need to learn to work well together and it helps them to get closer. Throughout the trip, drama and heartache are just a step away. People they thought they could trust turn out to be a fraud. The truth they find out isn’t always easy to digest. And in the end, their own lives are in danger.

The characters were very well-developed and felt real, while being very unique. Aurora felt alone and lost due to her ability. She did not feel like she can get close to people. She was deprived of her youth and dreams due to her brother’s disappearance. Not wanting to hurt her parents even more, she put her dreams on hold. The trip allows her to learn how to take her life back and with Donovan’s help she learns that it is okay to feel and show those emotions.

Donovan is an ex-soldier, that gave up his dreams a long time ago as well. He is closed-off especially around Aurora and does not let anyone close – at least not emotionally. Physically it is a whole different story. His world view is being shaken to its core by the experiences during the road trip and has to learn that some rules need to be broken. With Aurora by his side, he has someone that is always there for him with understanding and sympathy.

I loved how this story kept me guessing and kept me at the edge of my seat. I tried to solve the puzzle myself, trying to learn as much as possible. Though I might have guessed correctly a few times, the book never allowed me to get ahead of Aurora and Donovan, therefore making me experience the twists and turns through the characters. I loved that. Often you’ll know at the beginning of the book who has done what. Not so here. There was also no way for me to guess if Aurora and Donovan will end up together or not.

The romance in this book is there but it is not the main focus and therefore does not take away from the mystery that Aurora and Donovan have to solve. And though there are no explicit sex scnees there were moments that made the room temperature rise.

Overall it is a wonderful, unique and captivating story.

This is the story of how Aurora and Donovan set out on a cross-country trip to search for clues that will lead to solving the mystery of Gideon and Jeremy. Gideon, Aurora’s brother, and Jeremy, Gideon’s brother, both disappeared two years ago without leaving a trace. Now, Aurora finds a journal, which may prove that her brother isn’t really dead. With Gideon’s reluctant help, they’ll set out to find out what really happened. Will what they find out be truly what they wanted to hear?

I absolutely enjoyed this! The pacing was a bit slow for me, but once it gets going, it’s a truly addicting story.

Aurora is such a refreshing character! She didn’t let romance and angst get in the way of what she truly wanted: to find out what happened to her brother. Aurora put aside her feelings for Donovan so she could actually get her head in the game. I loved how Aurora was always trying to decipher the puzzles that were left in the journals; it was fun to try and guess them with her. There’s also a lot of character growth from her, and also some self-discovery.

Donovan is a different story. From the very beginning he’s closed off and unreadable. Since the book is told from Aurora’s POV, we can only interpret Donovan like Aurora does. Nevertheless, Donovan proved to be a multi-dimensional hero. I totally fell for him.

The best of this book is the mystery. This book branches out from the typical New Adult contemporary romance genre and gives us a New Adult Mystery. The mystery here was so… UNEXPECTED. Your inner Sherlock won’t work here, because it’s like the author structured this book in a way that you’d only find out what was happening when the author wanted you to find out. Each little mysterious aspect was amazing when discovered and overall I liked the mystery in this book, although it wasn’t exactly “thrilling”.

For all of those romance fans, I will tell you that romance takes a backseat to everything else. The romance is mild, and sparse, but there IS romance present in the story. I found that the romance was always present, but never actually played with until it was absolutely necessary. I enjoyed this a lot because it showed that the most important aspect of this book was actually the mystery.

This book is set in 1978, and it was a nice change in setting. There wasn’t as much technology as there is nowadays, so the mystery is easily believable for the time it was set in. There are also great references to that time, so it actually feels genuine (I’m a 90’s child, but my mom read this book also and she says it actually is pretty accurate).



Overall, this was a great New Adult/Young Adult read and a very believable and complex mystery. I recommend this book to anyone who loves books about road-trips. Definitely a great read if you’re feeling adventurous. I can't wait to read more from this author.

I need to say that this book is one of the best books I read this year. And after I read the synopsis I hoped that would be good, that just not the synopsis is good but the book itself, cause I bumped into books that appeared to be nice and interesting and weren’t. But this is not like that, this book was up to my expectations and kept me glued to the story from the first page to the last.

The first aspect that I liked are the characters. Aurora and Donovan are, let’s say, two teenagers like others, but in the same time they are different. They lost their brothers. That and the fact that they are cute, sincere, they fight for what they want and think, they won’t go down and struggle to find the truth. I liked them both, equaly, and the friendship that is between them is so nice. Aurora is the kind of girl that I like, I mean she’s smart, strong, she loves so much her brother, she wants to know the truth no matter what and she doesn’t loses her head, even she likes D. Donovan is kind of a bad guy, but just in appearance. Inside he’s nice and gentle and strong and he helps Aurora to find out the truth, to know what really happens with their brothers. I liked that he doesn’t try to be bad or I don’t know, to make things just to be in the lights. He’s a good guy and I really liked how he and Aurora traveled and put the pieces together.

I won’t talk about their relationship, but I liked that wasn’t the big thing of the book, that even when they knew there’s something between them they didn’t made a drama. I mean they focused ot the trip and the clues and the bad guys. And this made the book feel real and not forced and the things went right.

I liked the idea with the clues hidden in the journal, but in the same time I saw that like that was more hard to figure it out and know were to go. And it was hard to know who to trust and how things happened. But Aurora did a good job and they went right every time, even Donovan wasn’t so sure and too protective. But just a little bit.

The whole truth that is behind the journal and what’s happend to their brothers is… I wasn’t expecting it. The whole thing was so big and complexe, like a spider web, and… whew… like ever I could though about it. How their brothers get into that story and how things go… i don’t know what to say, but it was good. So good. The book, the characters, the idea, how it was written. I mean every page, every clue and every step drive you on a road full of suspense and the more you read, the more you want to read and to know. Is a book that you can’t put down. I couldn’t. And I was so much in the story, I wanted so much to know what happened, like Donovan and Aurora.

Guys, I don’t think that in this review I convinced you to read the book, but is so good. I have no words to describe it and you have to try it. Read it, cause is good, is interesting, is different, is full of good stuff, good characters, and the ending. And a huge plus: it has no love triangle. For me that counted. So read it, and I’m sure you’ll love it, and you will think, at the end that this people, this characters are like friends. For me they are, and somehow I’m sad that it ended.

I can without a doubt say that I thoroughly enjoyed this book and was hooked on their mystery and their road trip to finding out the truth, Nancy Drew watch out (just don't let Aurora hear me calling her that lol). This book was definitely more mystery than anything else, yes there was a little romance thrown in there and it helped the story on an additional level but it really didn’t even need it. This book was exciting and adventurous and I’ve never read a mystery before so it was definitely something new for m and I enjoyed it.


We meet Aurora who just discovered a journal from her brother who went missing two years previously with his best friend, but there are new entries in it from the week before. This surprises her and she joins forces with Donavan who is the older brother of Jeremy the one who went missing with her brother. They set off on a road trip and discover so many weird things that make them question who their brothers really were and what they could possibly have been doing. But one thing leads to another and they are off on another longer road trip, one full of discoveries.


This book contains a fabulous mystery with a great ending, there are car chases, motorcycle duded, explosives, fireworks, corrupt police men and possible mob ties thrown in for good measure. There is so much adventure in this book with a side of romance that is really quite adorable because Donavan being the older of the two holds back his feelings, at least until she turns 18 then it’s free reign.


I really loved the different places they visited and the addition of having route 66 which has always been a mystery on itself was an added bonus. Hitting all the small towns from the mid-west to the south west they go about discovering crazy corruption through several states all while trying to find their brothers who were alive in their minds because they were in contact with them, or at least they were with Aurora’s brother Gideon. All roads lead to finding out the truth and their brothers.


There were a few moments in the book well I really felt for the characters because their journey is long and frustrating and who knew there were so few people you could actually trust in this world. I loved the different settings from this book, and the time as well because it happened before I was born, before there was so much technology, when things were both harder and simpler at the same time. If they had the technology we have now none of this would have even transpired in my mind and I love that it really was nostalgic. Especially when they were talking about Grease coming out in the theater for the first time and their reactions to the movie, I thought that was adorable.


Overall I really enjoyed this book and am happy I had the chance to review it. If you love a good mystery with a lot of excitement and a little bit of romance then you will definitely have to read this book. I couldn’t put it down and was mad when I had to go to sleep and I wanted to know what was going to happen next, very addicting.

This was a bit of a departure for me from my usual genres; I'd classify it as a new adult coming of age mystery. Best friends Gideon and Jeremy disappeared two years ago when they were aged 18. They are assumed to be dead, but no bodies have ever been found, and not even the car they were travelling in. Life for their families has been put on hold to an extent, they don't know what happened to the boys and they are unable to move on - just existing rather than living.

The story opens with Aurora, Gideon's teenaged sister, opening a box. The key has recently been placed amongst her items and she finds Gideon's diary. But this is the thing; it's been updated in the last two weeks in Gideon's handwriting. Gideon and his sister Aurora shared a love of puzzles and codes, and she feels that he's sent her a number of coded messages, so she sets about piecing together the clues of just what happened to Gideon and Jeremy with the help of Jeremy's older brother Donovan.

Aurora is an interesting character; she's obviously intelligent but more of an observer of life than an active participant. She's very much alone in her small town existence but this mystery hanging over her family has stopped her from moving on with her life. Donovan firmly believes that his brother has died, but he wants to know what happened to Jeremy and he also wants to make sure Aurora doesn't get in over her head. Aurora and Donovan have to travel to a number of locations, trying to trace their brothers' paths. This helps both of them find closure in relation to their brothers' disappearances and Aurora particularly also has an emotional journey, coming to know herself better, a real coming of age journey.

One thing that I particularly liked about this book was the fact that it was set in the late 70s. We are so spoilt with the internet and the availability of information these days and it really gave the book a different feel from something set in contemporary times, with the characters having to look in phonebooks, go to libraries to look at microfiche and make physical visits to places rather than just ask Google. There are a number of references to Nancy Drew in this book, and I felt it was an apt comparison, it was very like a Nancy Drew, but for an older audience. If you were buying this for a younger reader you'd be ok - there are a very few references to sex and no bad language that I can recall. I enjoyed exercising my mind trying to work out what had happened. It wasn't too easy to work out what had happened (for me at least!), I generally came to conclusions at about the same time that Aurora did, so it got my mind working. I really enjoyed this book and I'd recommend it.

It’s a heartrending tale of loss and of love, a masterful mix of mystery and romance with a good dose of a coming of age tale thrown in. Her meticulous and descriptive narrative paints a perfect picture of landscapes and scenes and gives a realistic look at a crime drama from the 70s, which just happens to be my personal hey-day and a road-trip on the historic Route 66 that will keep readers on the nail-biting edge of their seats until she decides to solve the puzzle and let her audience breathe again. Her characters are all superb but none better than her stars Aurora and Donovan who play their roles perfectly. Those of us who know her well will also see very personal qualities inside these pages and we will be yet again amazed at her talent, her storytelling and her knowledge of the human condition.
Marilyn we’ve been on many novelistic trips together and I’ll remember each of them but this one will resonate especially because of its emotion and passion. Thank you for this story and I can’t wait to see where you lead me next.

I actually liked this so much more than I thought I was going to. I went into it expecting a typical New Adult novel, and got something completely different – a book with a lot of heart and a good mystery, too.

The mystery behind this whole story was incredible – I mean, I loved the clues that Gideon left for Aurora to figure out, and how it inevitably led them on a road trip down Route 66. The clues were placed so well and I stayed just a half-step ahead of them, piecing together the puzzle as it was laid out.

Having the story set in the 70′s was groovy (haha) – I enjoyed it because it was a little different from the norm and made the mystery that much harder to figure out. Many times I’d catch myself thinking “duh, just go on the internet” and then realize that “duh” – they couldn’t. How easily I forgot that the world wasn’t as connected then as it is now! No cell phones, GPS, or computers – they had to do this the “old-fashioned” way.

Aurora’s character was really likeable – she was super smart, liked to read (yay!), and was really, really perceptive to how people around her were feeling and acting. I didn’t like Donovan at first, he just seemed too grumpy and full of himself, but eventually I came to like him, as well – especially once he stopped fighting with Aurora every second and started protecting her. There were a few moments where he surprised me and melted my heart just a little bit. I loved that the relationship between Aurora and Donovan was slow-paced and not at all like most New Adult relationships – hot and heavy without much thought going into it. In fact, it wasn’t really the focus of the book like I thought it was going to be, which was nice in itself.

I was a little sad when this story wrapped up…I was so engrossed in the mystery that when they finally had it solved, I wanted it to keep going. And then it was over – just like that. Everything finished up with a tidy little bow, but I wanted something else. I can’t say what, exactly, but something more. I’ll hold out hope that there will be a sequel or something to this one!

I was surprised by how much I liked this book. If you’re looking for something a little different from the norm in the New Adult genre, you should definitely pick this one up! I know I, for one, will be looking for more of Marilyn Brant’s work!

I have to say, that once I started this book, I couldn't seem to put it down. I found myself trying to figure out what the clues were and what they meant. I truly enjoyed reading this well written book and I'm sure you will too.

When a key for a toolbox mysteriously appeared in Aurora's desk, she was able to find her brother, Gideon's, journal in the tool shed after he disappeared 2 years ago. Hidden within the "how to maintain a car" scribblings, lies the clues to his and his best friend, Jeremy's, sudden disappearance. Although officially considered so, Aurora never believed her brother was dead. She held on to the hope that he was out there somewhere. Finding the journal was all it took to convince her, especially since there was an entry dated AFTER he disappeared. All the entry said was "Start Here. G."

It took a little convincing, but she was able to get Jeremy's brother, Donovan to follow what she thinks is the first clue and help her. After that first, overnight trip, she convinces him they need to go further, so they plan a week long mid-west tour, following what they think is their brothers' last days. As they go, they uncover the manufacturing and sale of illegal explosives, murder, crocked cops, and even mob ties.

The setting brought back a lot of memories. It's set in the 70's, which added to the complexity of figuring things out. "Look it up on Google" just couldn't happen. So many things were mentioned that I had totally forgotten about. It brought back many memories for me, seeing as I grew up in the 70's.

Given the cover of this book, I was expecting a lot more romance. Since I tend to read mostly romance novels, I jumped to that conclusion. After all, Aurora and Donovan are working together to solve the mystery of their brothers' disappearance and spend many nights together in various hotels. Aurora has had feelings for Donovan for years, but he doesn't seem to see her that way. Donovan was a perfect gentleman, treating Aurora with respect and never crossing that line.This wonderful book held my interest that I barely noticed they weren't developing a relationship, although I really hoped they would. They seem to work so well together and seem to understand each other so well.

I love a good mystery and The Road To You is one of the better mysteries that I have encountered in a long time. This book will really keep you guessing. This book takes place in the 1970s and Aurora and Donovan's older brothers have been missing for over two years. Aurora finds her brothers journal out of the blue and as she starts to go through it she noticed that there are clues hidden throughout. I love that concept. Puzzles and scavenger hunt type mysteries are always really fun for me to read about. And this is a very intricate mystery. I was trying to solve it right along with Aurora and Donovan and I couldn't crack it before they did. Marilyn Brant did a really great job with this book.

Aurora is so determined. I really wanted everything to work out for her because she wanted it so badly. And nothing was easy for her. You have to remember that this book takes place in the 70s so there was no internet, no cell phones and CSI/ police forensics are nothing like they are today. There is almost no researching that Aurora could have done. If she wants to find her brother she has to literally go to all the places that they went and do some major footwork. Talk to the people they talked to, try and figure out what they were doing at each place and look for leads that way. And because of that sometimes the book seems a little long. It wasn't really slow pe se, it is just a long process that the two of them had to go through just to advance one step. But it was really interesting. Aurora was my favorite character. I liked Donovan too, but Aurora just seemed to be the driving force behind everything and her determination and can do spirit impressed me.

There is a little bit of a romance but it is very secondary to the main mystery. I liked it that way. Normally, I like more romance in my stories, but here it worked as a secondary aspect because this book really was about finding their brothers. I really liked the mystery that Marylin came up with. It was interesting and well thought out. I was really impressed with The Road to You overall. It was my first time reading one of her books and I can really see that she is a very detail oriented writer. Everything is so well described and the story seemed very fleshed out. It was an enjoyable read.

3.75, rounded up to 4 Route 66 stars. I'd say this book is 90% mystery (which was fun to solve along with Aurora and Donovan) and 10% YA romance. I connected with this book in a way I hadn't expected. Much of it was set in places that I know very well.

Growing up in the Midwest along Route 66 I knew places Marilyn Brant brought to life. In fact, I have sat in the Ariston Cafe more times than I can count, I know the owners, they are family friends. I'm also pretty sure that even though she didn't name the motel/cafe/gas station that Aurora and Donovan stayed in, I know exactly where it is. My brothers still go there for breakfast before starting work and I go there when I'm home. It was fun to travel that road, back in the 70s, with Aurora and Donovan.

Aurora finds a long lost key to a box that she used to keep her diary in out their shed. When she opens the box she finds Gideon's journal instead of her diary. Gideon has been gone for two years, at first everyone thought he and his best friend, Jeremy, were simply missing. It was later discovered that they were dead. Until that day when Gideon's journal was discovered. By Aurora. In the shed. And she discovers it has recently been written in. By Gideon. Now all she has to do is find a way to follow Gideon's clues without creating false hope for her parents. She also knows that she'll need help. She looks to Donovan, Jeremy's older brother, for that help. One of her biggest hurdles will be convincing him that it was truly Gideon that left the journal, the clues are real, and that this isn't a wild goose chase. Not an easy task. But, convince him she does. She also manages to get her parents' blessing for a trip with Donovan to go on extended "college visits." Her excuse for leaving town for the time she needs.

Clues are given and solved from day one. The reader easily becomes involved in trying to figure out the clues right along with Aurora and Donovan. It's all much bigger than anyone thought it would be and many discoveries are made. This is a quick and fun read that keeps you interested from page one, but it doesn't really get moving until Chicago. Once there, you won't want to stop reading until you solve the mystery.

This story begins in a small town, where 2 years prior, 2 friends, Gideon and Jeremy, disappeared at age 18 and were presumed dead. Aurora unexpectedly finds a journal that belonged to her brother and she begins to believe he isn't dead. She shows the journal to Jeremy's brother, Donovan and the 2 decide to investigate what happened to their brothers 2 years ago. The journey takes them down historic Route 66. I especially loved the journey through Illinois, as I actually live on Route 66 and have traveled this section many times.

The story takes place in the late 70's. It was so fun reading and remembering how "non-electronic" that period of time was. Aurora and Donovan had to find libraries to look up information, there was no internet from your smart phone! The card catalog was mentioned, as well. My kids would think that was a catalogue full of greeting cards you could order. Phone booths and phone books needed to be found. The price of gas was mentioned, and it was under a dollar a gallon! The movie "Grease" had just come out and the tv line up was exactly as I remembered. I loved the trip down memory lane.

Aurora and Donovan are soon involved in a very suspenseful situation. The attraction between them grows and at a very reasonable pace. Unlike some romances, where the couple has to get together quickly so the reader isn't bored, this story was so entertaining, the romance could progress quietly. The pace in no way deadened the romance. It was so, well the only word I have is, romantic! I was in tears in parts of the story.

The characters showed real feelings, real reactions, had real conversations. I completely lost myself while reading this. Donovan was a protective male, which I love, but he showed real emotions and made good and bad choices along the journey. Aurora was a smart girl, more of an observer, who loved to learn. She reminded me of me. The clues and puzzles along the way were so fun to try and figure out along with her. This couple and their suspense filled journey will suck you in and stay with you awhile.

I would recommend this book to young adults and older. There are instances of romantic love, but no graphic sex.

The Road to You is part mystery, part suspense; a coming of age story of self-discovery with a bit of romance. It takes place in 1978 which I found to be interesting since it's not a time period I've read about often. Ms. Brant delivers a well-paced adventure as Aurora and Donovan follow a trail of clues in the hopes of unraveling the mystery behind the disappearance of their brothers two years ago.

Aurora's life was put on hold two years ago when her brother, Gideon, disappeared with his best friend, Jeremy. The local police did a shoddy investigation, and her parents held a funeral under the assumption he was dead. I don't think Aurora even realized that she was simply existing until she found Gideon's journal with a recent date marked on the page in Gideon's handwriting. She is convinced that not only is Gideon alive, but he left her a book full of clues to find him and solve the mystery of his disappearance. Aurora is extremely intelligent and a puzzle fanatic, so she's eager to begin the hunt.

Donovan left the Army and moved home when his brother, Jeremy, disappeared with Gideon. Like Aurora, he's merely existing in this small town, living with the uncertainty that comes from an unsolved mystery. He's reluctant to investigate with Aurora, worried that she'll get hurt. When he finally agrees, they're both embroiled in the mystery from the very first stop.

I loved the way Ms. Brant included handwritten pictures of the journal entry pages; seeing them helped draw me deeper into the mystery. This novel is full of intrigue and suspense, making it a real page turner. Aurora and Donovan travel along Route 66, unraveling the mystery bit by bit from pieces they discover in each town. In some ways it reminds me of a treasure hunt, the map being Gideon's journal. The ending was quite satisfying, wrapping everything up as neatly as possible.

I recommend The Road to You to everyone high school and up looking for an adventure/mystery with a touch of romance. There are references to sexual situations and some mature content in the form of crime, murder and death.

What an awesome adventure. The Road To You by Marilyn Brant is a phenomenal young adult mystery set in the 70's and I haven't read anything like it before. I was trying to describe this book to my family shortly after I read it and found I couldn't do it justice but kept telling them they should just read it. That is what I am telling you. Read it!

As I mentioned above, the book is set in the 70's. I was born in the mid-70's but know enough about the time period to be able to appreciate the 70's tidbits such as the movie Grease coming out and some of the music referenced. Marilyn does a fantastic job with descriptions of the locations and the overall setting of the book. You feel like you are in the 70's while reading this story. I love that the town I grew up in was mentioned in the book! I have yet to read another book that mentions it. I really, truly, enjoyed the entire road trip that Marilyn takes you on in The Road To You.

The story itself and characters are very well done. Seventeen year old Aurora is wise beyond her years but that knowledge is not always appreciated. She does manage to use her maturity to convince Donovan who is five years older than her to help find out what happened to both of their brothers, Gideon and Jeremy. She uncovers a journal that Gideon led her to with clues to figure out why the boys disappeared two years prior. It is a very complicated plot and I can't even imagine how Marilyn came up with all of it. Reading it is easy though. I'm not very good at solving mysteries but I love reading them and following along with the characters as they figure them out.

Donovan and Aurora's relationship changed along the way and not in a cheesy typical way, so it fit the book, the adventure and the characters perfectly. The Road To You is a mystery that will have you thinking about things as if the story were real. I went on a road trip shortly after I finished reading it and found myself thinking about the story as I passed landmarks or other travelers. If you like a good mystery, young adult books or road trips, I highly recommend The Road To You.

The Road To You by Marilyn Brant was a surprise of wonderful delights from the first turn of the page.
Already and avid fan of Marilyn and many of her wonderful tales that she has spun for us to read, I was more set back and then happily surprised as she reached outside her normal genre to enter a new era and format for this, her newest literary gift to us.
After setting us back into the 70’s and the years of my youth, where I was able to identify very well with the heroine and her trials and tribulations of being almost an adult. Throw in the added trauma of a family in the midst of a great mysterious tragedy and add a generous allotment of a brilliant teenage mind that won’t let things rest, and you have the setting for an action-filled, mystery, that is filled with fast turns, a lot of brain puzzlers, and not a lot of sleep for you, the reader, till you get to the last page.
But, Marilyn didn’t let us romantics down, either. She threw in the gorgeous dark, handsome hunk to stir up the story and keep the heart pumping and wondering if she would get her man with the turn of the next page. Or would he be the gallant knight in shining armor and protect her innocent youthful virtue and be the gentleman while escorting her through the tire screeching, blood-pumping storyline that has you dodging bullets and bad guys. By halfway through the book I was beginning to wonder if there was really a good guy out there to be found….
The topping to the whole piece that provided a wonderful scenic back drop and was a lot of fun was watching the storyline follow the old Route 66 from Chicago to out west…. But how far, I’m not going to say, that would almost ruin it. Being from the area and having travelled most of the route, I thoroughly enjoyed the attention to detail and accuracy that Marilyn paid to the locales and establishments along the way. Yup, they really are there and really do exist. And they were really the BIG thing back in the days…..
All the way around, The Road To You was a fun, exciting, and enjoyable book that kept me guessing the “whodunit” all the way to the last page. Marilyn, you batted this one out of the park!!!!
