Romance and adventure...and a trip to where an American tradition began…
Libby Edwards, a gifted horsewoman, unwittingly wishes herself back in time to Louisville, Kentucky just before Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby become a reality. During Libby’s journey in the past, she stumbles upon her destiny. Unfortunately, he’s in the wrong century. In 1874, there’s no electricity, no internet, no modern medicine, no antibiotics—no Starbucks! And even worse than that, women have no rights. Libby has no desire to stay.
Widower, Colin Thorpe, a renaissance man of his time, has big dreams. He is a horse breeder who names his thoroughbreds after Mythological Gods because he has a reverence for past cultures and an appreciation for the unexplainable.
Libby and Colin can’t resist falling in love with each other. After all, Colin accepts Libby for who she is and she understands Colin’s dreams better than his deceased wife ever did. Yet he grasps early on that Libby doesn't belong in 1874. And because his wife never adapted to the move from Virginia to Kentucky, becoming bitter and unhappy in the process, he won’t take the chance of the same thing happening to Libby. Can these two lovers find a way to be together despite their challenges?
Sandy Loyd is a Western girl through and through. Born and raised in Salt Lake City, she's worked and lived in some fabulous places in the US,including South Florida. She now resides in Kentucky and writes full time. As much as she loves her current hometown, she misses the mountains and has to go back to her roots to get her mountain fix at least once a year.
She spent her single years in San Francisco and considers that city one of America's treasures, comparable to no other city in the world. Her California Series, starting out with Winter Interlude, are all set in the Bay Area. Her series consists of fun, heartwarming stories about crazy friends who, like single people everywhere, are seeking that someone special to share their lives with among thousands of eligible candidates.
I really enjoyed this fun emotional read. It took me away to a different time full of growing romance and knowlede of thoroughbred raising. Libby Edwards, went after her dream and her love of working with horses. Her fiance,Dave, didn't understand her and wouldn't even try. He only looked at the suface of people and not taking the time to look inside at who they really were and wanted.Elizebeth went searching for happiness and to help save the horse ranch. What she found was Colin Thorpe, the orginal owner of the ranch, who she couldn't stop falling in love with. This book is a page turner that you can't put down. I was sorry to see it end. Looking forward to reading, Games, the next book in this series.
This story is very well developed. The characters are amazing. Libby is the girl that everyone loves, she's loving, giving, funny and next door type. Colin is the sexy outdoorsman. The kind of guy every woman is looking for but very few women find! I loved the history included with the story and the interaction with the horses. Having been raised with horses all my life and all my family loving horses this book was very special to me. For those who love time travel I highly recommend this book. The history concerning horse racing and Churchhill Downs is also very interesting.
I generally like time travel books. This one started off good, and I learned a lot about horses. The fact that Libby was a 23 year old woman with a short haircut trying to pass as a young boy in 1874 was a stretch. As she settled into life back in time, there was too much angst (should I go or should I stay) and too many love scenes between her and Colin! I thought people were more restrained in those days. Anyway, not to give away the plot, she has to make a decision about which century to stay in. On one side she goes into elaborate and emotional good byes, but on the other side she leaves letters. The fact that these letters are buried doesn’t make sense; nor does it seem right that she doesn’t face these people to say goodbye. It was a fast and simplistic ending that was weak. Overall, I kept hoping the story would pick up and become more satisfying, but it didn’t. I do not recommend this one, and I will not pursue the series.
I did enjoy this book. I loved the fact that someone has written a time travel book not set in Scotland, trying to copy Diana Gabaldon's series. I found it enjoyable to read about the thoroughbreds and how they were an important part of the story. If you are looking for a love story in a great setting that is light and will transport you, this is worth the read.
I found this story to be a refreshing change to the normal time travel romance. This is only the second book that I have read where the girl travels back into the past in her own country not Scotland! I also liked the realism, the fact that she missed our modern conveniences. I'm sure that most of us would not like no electricity, no proper indoor plumbing; no cars, phones, e-books or computers; and most of all the freedom to wear what we want and to work in a field that was traditionally male! This book makes you think. I loved the characters too! Libby was given a hard choice and her journey was a difficult one but well worth it in the end. The romance is natural without being erotic. Loved it!
This is one of the best romantic time travel books I have read in quite a while. A wonderful story that takes the reader back to 1874 Louisville, KY. I laughed and I cried. The romance worked and the time travel worked. Very happy to find this book and author and I'll be looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
When I first read this book's description, I thought it sounded kind of corny - but it worked. I enjoyed Libby's search for self and was happy to 'meet' those who influenced her. I had tears in my eyes several times - just shows my romantic side. This was an entertaining story to pass the time.
I've really enjoyed reading this story. Very easy to read as the story flows. I would sit down to read and next thing I knew I had read 50 pages. It has characters that you would like to meet. It makes me want to know what happens to everyone else in the book.
A SAD BUT LOVELY TIME TRAVEL ROMANCE ABOUT A WOMAN WHO IS SEEKING ACCEPTANCE FROM HER FIANCE HAS UNEXPECTEDLY FOUND TRUE LOVE FROM THE MAN LIVING ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY EIGHT YEARS FROM HER TIME. THIS WAS AN EASY AND FAST PACING BOOK TO READ. IT CAME SMOOTH THE FIRST FEW PAGES OF THE BOOK BUT WENT A LITTLE BIT DULL IN THE MIDDLE AND EXCITEMENT FLARES AGAIN AS YOU READ ALONG.
I HAD A HARD TIME SUMMARIZING THE STORY REALLY BECAUSE IT IS NOT EASY TO TELL THE STORY WITHOUT MENTIONING SOME PARTS THAT WILL SPOIL THE BOOK. THERE ARE NO TRIGGER WARNINGS OR ANY SENSITIVE PART IN THE STORY. ALTHOUGH THERE ARE BED SCENES BUT THEY ARE NOT GRAHIC SEX OR STEAMY FOR THAT MATTER.
ANYWAYS, CHARACTERS ON BOTH TIMELINE WERE LOVABLE AND RELATABLE, FOR EXAMPLE DAVE'S ATTITUDE MAY BE DISAGREEABLE BUT TRUE BECAUSE THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO SHARE SAME CHARACTERISTICS AS DAVIDS, RIGHT? CHARACTERS HAS FLAWS AND ALL. AND AS FOR CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT, WE SEE HOW LIBBY HAS TRANSFORMED FROM A WOMAN WHO IS ALWAYS AGREEING WITH HER FIANCEE EVEN IF IT HURTS HER INTO SOMEONE WHO WILL STAND UP FOR WHAT SHE TRULY WANTS AND NOT ALLOWING ANYONE TO MANIPULATE HER.
ONE THING I ENJOYED WHILE READING THE BOOK IS HOW YOU ARE BEING TRANSPORTED BACK TO 1874, THERE IS SOMETHING IN DESCRIBING THE PLACE THAT YOU WILL EASILY FEEL THAT ERA AS IF YOU ARE THERE. THE ENDING IS PREDICTABLY GOOD IF NOT THAT GREAT.

This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I have to admit, I’m on Dave’s side. Libby doesn’t know if she can be happy with her fiancé Dave because he just doesn’t “get her”. Well she hides who she really is and instead holds a grudge. Not his fault. Then she quits her job, and goes to work at a horse farm that she worked at 4 years prior. Dave gets upset because she didn’t tell him she was doing this and she says “well this is what I love and if you can’t accept that then we can’t be together”. Um, poor Dave who is blindsided by Libby’s impulsive move and he should rightfully be upset that his fiancé didn’t bother to tell him she was changing jobs. Libby made a huge deal about leaving Collin and then returned minutes later not even bothering to SEE her best friend. Also not one mention of her interacting with his kids until one sentence at the very end. Why even put them in the story? Obviously Libby was not a likable character.
This book had a promising start but ultimately I found it to be just OK. There wasn't enough of the fish-out-of-water element that I enjoy in time travel stories. Also, the sex scenes were mediocre. In my opinion, if the sex scene is not going to be steamy, then keep the author should close the bedroom door and fade to black. The lovemaking in this book was described in flowery euphemisms, reminiscent of something I would have read back in the 1980s.
Despite the faults I found with this book, I was willing to try the next book in the series but it appears that the other two books in the trilogy do not involve time travel. I guess I'll take a pass.
I don’t usually read time travel books but I liked the horse theme with the beginning of the Kentucky Derby,
I enjoyed the beginning of the book which made me give the book 3 stars, But the internal struggle of the heroine going back snd forth became too long. The internal struggle of the hero was overdone too. The hero was manipulating in getting her to stay and she cried too much.
I just felt like the book was too long, The drama got old. And the three children were almost non existent.
Word vomit, unnecessary storylines and unrealistic behaviors, responses and actions. I understand that this fantasy because it’s time travel but even so the author needs to draw the reader in and make them believe it could be real or that they can relate. The author failed miserably. Also you can’t go back in time to the Antebellum South and make it seem ok. She makes no reference to slaves or servants but provides other historical details. That pretty much ruined it for me. SEX SCENES - Yes, vanilla, missionary, very tame; no explicit details.
I enjoyed the time travel, the horses and the romance. All the bedroom encounters were a bit much. Every time they made love it was explained. I was flipping past all their touching and kissing. I loved the overall story but it was so long. I had to start flipping pages. Libby ends up traveling to the past and all the wonderful sights she was seeking was explained. The training of the horses and everything to do with ranch was explained. Which is fine, but it got to long for me. When Libby attended the ballroom dance I did enjoy reading that part.
I never read the 'back page summary' as this often gives away the book's surprises, and in this case, what an unexpected and surprising twist. The story is so well written I can understand the dilemma Libby experiences having to make a life changing decision. All the way through I tried to guess the ending and was pleasantly surprised how things turned out. You need to read this book and see if your thoughts are the same as the ending. An excellent read.
A time travel story between the present and 1874 Louisville, KY, and the beginnings of the Kentucky Derby.
How do you cope with not fitting in, especially with those who love you anyway? When you follow your heart and yet it disappoints those who love you? How do you help a good employer who might lose his horse farm? How do you leave the love of your life, especially if he lives in a very different time?
Cute story. I will read some of the others in the Timeless series.
The was ok. I liked the basic story line but there was way to much sex in it. Romance is good but leave the bedroom stuff to me to fill in. There were some miss spelling but not bad. But what really makes me mad is not getting the gender right on the horses. The writer refers to one horse as a mare then in the next paragraph it's a stallion. First the writer calls it a he then calls it a she. Make up you mind.
The characters were wonderfully interesting and believable. The time travelling aspect was enthralling and left me wanting more. I ran through the gamut of emotions as I read about Libby and her adventures in another time. I enjoyed reading about the horses, who were characters in their own right. A truly moving book.
I was slightly disappointed in this to be honest - on the face of it, this series sounds like everything I love in a good time travel book, but the narrative became annoying after a while and Libby just seemed like she didn't know what she wanted through most of it. I probably won't read the other books in this series!
Honestly? I really enjoyed this story, to me it was a coming of age story, getting to know who she really was and going for it instead of letting other people judgements affecting her. Of course, getting used to no modern conveniences, I think I would struggle with that myself, but meeting her love in another century, acceptance by all but a few
I enjoyed this book. Very hard to out down! This was first Sandy Loyd's book, I have ever read. The story was regarding time travel through the theme of love and adventure. It of course had a lot of intense, especially the beginning of the book...But I would have enjoyed it more with less inappropriate parts. The story is very good without it so why trash it with inappropriate parts...
This was and entertaining and interesting read. It definitely gets you to think and brings the complications/situations to life. Good characters that have you thinking and maybe some self-reflection. Strong emotions, some tense moments, intriguing personalities, some steaminess and a happy/sad ending. Could be a tear-jerker. Great for the lazy-day, snuggle-in kinda book. Good luck.
This was a wonderful read that let's the reader into another world. To find a love like Libby and Colin's is every girls dream. What would you give up for the perfect love, me everything and more, just like Libby. Thank you for weaving a timeless tale of love, family and friendship. I can't wait to read the next in the series.
This was an unusual time travel book and rated 5 stars right up there with my favorite time travel book by Rita Mae Brown, Riding Shotgun. Libby accidentally travels from 2013 to 1874 and takes on the guide of a boy to work on a horse 🐎ranch after meeting a 10 year old boy who sees her arrive from the future.
I enjoy time travel stories and add a great romance on top of it, you have Time Will Tell. I was pulled into the story and felt like I was right there with Libby. I'm only sorry the story had to end. But, it was a great ending. It was a complete ending that wrapped everything up very nicely. I'm looking forward to the next book of Sandy Loyd's.
I'm not usually into time travel stories. I hate to suspend credulity, but somehow this one hits the mark. I could so closely relate to Libby I felt her frustrations, her affections, her connections to the horses... I'm so glad she was able to follow the path to happiness.
I love time travel stories. This book was really well written. With a romance novel, one always assumes the main couple will end up together. I honestly wasn’t exactly sure how it was going to turn out. That’s good writing. I also love that the author included the letters at the end. It was a nice way to wrap it all up.
