When Miranda discovers the ultimate consequences of her egg donations, she organizes a rebellion, enlisting fellow donors in her cause. But soon she realizes the mysterious headmaster, Dimas, knows of her plot. And there’s something about him that bothers Miranda, though she can’t describe it. The fate of humanity hangs in the balance, so she can’t back down. But will Dimas expose her defiance?

OMG!

Such a great sci-fi/fantasy novel. From start to finish I was completely hooked on Miranda and what the Eslites were doing on Earth. It was pretty cool at first learning that the Eslites were hot alien men that looked human.

So, the Eslites race is falling and they come to Earth to make an agreement in which they take girls ages 16 to 24 and do no more than 3 egg extractions to produce offspring in return to give America cures for cancer and many other diseases. Miranda, the protagonist, is one of the many girls taken to Nidus, the alien "camp" for the extractions.

Thousands of girls have been through many tests and some end up dead. Why? The Eslites are doing more than egg extractions. They are killing a few females with their genetic modifications and hormones all to make the offspring as close to Eslite as possible.

The girls end up feeling like they are in prison and want a way out. Miranda decides to be the one to help them. She and a few other girls devise a plan to get their freedom back as humans. When she is allowed to go home for 4 weeks with her friend Kate they take action.

In the mist of this Dimas, the headmaster, falls for Miranda and tells her he is the one "mating" with her eggs to produce offspring. What killed me...these girls seeing hundreds of their fetuses die at various stages of gestation. I honestly love the bond between Miranda and Dimas, but feel bad for Bryce (Miranda's ex).

Things happen that I would not have thought would and boy was I shocked. The ending was just perfect to a T. Completely ready to read book 2!

The Eslite Chronicles is an amazing series so far.

First, I want to say that I was never a big fan of Sci-Fi, but when I read Doporto's The Eslites short story I changed my mind. Doporto delivers an action packed/ emotional roller coaster in her latest novel. There were characters that I either loved or truly despised. Everyone who knows me, knows that if you can get a reaction like that out of me, then it's a good read.

Miranda is a strong, intelligent character. Her sidekick, Kate, was not as strong as Miranda but did want to help (which made her the perfect companion for Miranda). I liked how the book displayed plausible scenarios if the world were taken over by aliens (but let's hope it doesn't!!). For the most part, I was able to see Miranda's reasoning and would have loved to see more of Bryce. Her dynamics with Dimas were very interesting and am very curious about how the rest of the series will play out. As for her family dynamics, I was saddened that her relationship was strained with her brother and I wanted to strangle her father. He had me questioning whether he was a true jerk or if he was an Eslite himself because he was so cold.

I really REALLY enjoyed reading this book and I cannot wait until the next book comes out! If you like action and strong female characters, then you should check it out.

This book was book of the week for a book club I am in and the author was kind enough to gift me an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review, which also included the prequel and that was cool and I will also review that one on goodreads so look for that :) I really enjoyed them both.
A few of the others in the book club chose not to read this one because it was Sci-fi and about Aliens, now I'm not calling them out I just say that to bring up my opinion, I enjoy Sci-fi for the most part but I am also very picky about it, I have been let down by a few books in this genre so I tend to tread carefully, this book however was not one that let me down and I believe the main reason for that was because the main focus is not really the Aliens but more about the adventure the main character, Miranda, embarked on and her determination to save not only girls on Nidus but so many others. I feel like it had more of a Dystopian feel than Sci-fi and since I love Dystopian I was just fine with that.
I am a big fan of a strong bad ass heroine and Miranda was one I became very interested in. She was very strong and in my eyes she had many set backs yet she found a way to power through and bounce back a bit:
"Mays are leaders. We never show weakness."
I am rooting for things to work out for her, I was from the start and with that insane ending I can not wait to find out more, I am very interested in what will happen in the next leg of her journey. Bryce was okay for me I liked him but I did not love him, he was sweet and he helped Miranda through a lot but I found him a little blah, However I do believe he is essential and I am glad Miranda has him for support, I just could not connect with him. Now I want to talk about Miranda's Dad but not to much cause the jerk face does not deserve it. I have heard of emotionally constipated but this guy takes the cake, I hate him!
I must add that I love this beautiful cover, It would have definitely drawn me in if I came across it and I like that in a cover.
I enjoyed many things about this book and I would like to continue the series and learn more.

Note: I was given this for review from the author and my opinions are all honest.

The Arrival, which is the first installment of the Eslites has a really interesting concept to it.

Miranda Mays is in her teens when her home town is invaded by what we'd call aliens. They are Eslites. With their race doomed and needing to produce more offspring, their invasion comes down to one premise. Earth's women.

Set a few years on, we find out that young girls between fourteen and twenty five are required (unless seen unfit) to give three egg extractions to carry on the Estiles human race. Any more than three and they would be in danger. They have signed and created laws and have well and truly been invaded not just on their planet but the girls have too. In return they will give cures to diseases like cancer.

C.M Dorpoto bought her story to life in a rather short time - which I must say is impressive. This is what I would consider to be a novella/a short story but please do not let that deter you. It's not all jam packed and badly spaced and the story flows well within the short time it has to tell it. You're able to conjure up the world with ease and as a young woman I have to say I did connect with the characters thoughts and feelings. Would be horrid to be put in that situation!

The characters each show different strengths and weaknesses, highlighting what it would be like if you got thousands of girls and forced them to give away eggs. Some are afraid, worried to fight back, others rise above it, some hide their feelings, others take strength when they need it most. They are becoming impowered young ladies, ones that will fight for what they feel is right.

The other interesting thing that is added to this, is what the outside opinion is of these girls. They are almost seen as threatoning, dirty, turn your nose up at them because they are one of 'them.' The prejudice against these girls and the Estiles was a even match.

If you're looking for a sci-fi alien story, I'd say give this a go! There is a cliffhanger that will leave you gawping.

I got this book from the author, free of cost, in exchange of an honest review from my side.
Firstly I would like to thank C. M. Doporto, author of The Eslites, The Arrival, for giving me this opportunity of reading and reviewing this fabulous book.
A great sci-fi read with a nice twist. I loved this book and really enjoyed every bit of it. Totally unique concept and well planned out plot. Here we are taken to the time where the human race is facing grave danger due to the invasion of an alien race that are using our women and girls as a carrier to reproduce and continue the existence of their kind. Amongst this chaos we find an utterly brave girl Miranda who has set a firm foot against all odds and is determined to save her and others alike and get them free.
A totally intriguing read which is packed with action, romance, suspense and will take you on a whirlwind ride. Unpredictable twists and turns will shock you now and then and the quest that Miranda leads and the problems through which she drags herself out smartly and intelligently will surprise you. The romantic scenes spiced up the read and the awesome writing style of the author made the read simple and easy for me and it didn’t seem confusing at all. Crisp dialogues and excellent presentation of the unknown race and the detailed descriptions regarding each and every aspect of the characters and the plot really made it a page turner. The characterization is great and Miranda’s developed character won the show for me. She was confident, independent and totally in control of her bearings and I liked Bryce as well but Miranda’s dad made me furious and I wanted to kill him myself. All in all a great and recommended read for ya all and hope that you guys will love it. Enjoy, folks!

4 stars!

The Eslites is a science-fiction piece, taking place in our time and world. This seemingly alien race has been stranded on our planet, but after finding that we have females compatible with them they decide to stay and rule over us, using and abusing our woman for their purpose. To save their race. We follow a girl, Miranda Mays, as she is brought in for compatibility testing and kept for egg extractions to make new Eslites. However, not everything is as it seems and when Miranda and her friends get pushed too far they decide to rebel, putting their lives at risk. Miranda especially since she leads their rebellion.

I really liked this book and want to see where the story goes, I'm guessing it'll be part of a series. My biggest complaint is the holes in the plot and character instability. There were so many things that weren't explained or described that we NEEDED but Miranda can ogle every guy she meets so we know their build and what their wearing. We're told she's so stubborn and rebellious yet yet directly following that comment we see nothing but complacent Miranda until she talks back to Dimas, the Eslite leader and her partner for reproduction recombination. She's not the strong, determined and rebellious character everyone would have us believe even when she's at the forefront of the rebellion. Her wish-washy character and feelings for Dimas and Bryce.

But despite those inconsistencies Doporto did a great job of creating and imagining these things. Her locubots, the tablets functions and capabilities, trackers and nanocytes, even all her other character development especially the Eslites. Dimas and Dr. Ridus seeming the most thought out and built.

Where to next with the wearisome Miranda and enigmatic Dimas? Will he keep his word?

I received this book free from the author in exchange for a beta read and review.
Again, another friggin gorgeous cover from author C.M. Doporto. I'm not the biggest sci-fi fan but I read the short story The Eslites and really enjoyed it so I was delighted to be asked to Beta this one. After reading the novella I was left with so many questions and this instalment gave me everything I had craved. I found this book to be a fast paced and exciting read. I also liked that the novel dealt with quite a controversial/ ethical topic, but I really enjoyed that aspect. OMG! C.M. Was a total jerk with the cliffhanger ending and just when things were getting amazing.
I really loved reading how the girls lived on Nidus or should I say how they tried to stay alive. Miranda really surprised me, I found her to be so rebellious that's she was willing to risk her life to try (and maybe not even succeed) and save the others living on Nidus and the rest of the human race. But most shocking for me was Miranda's dad, her own father, the asshat of asshats. GRHH! And that's all the time I'm gonna waste on him. Not sure if I like Bryce yet. He is also an asshat, but he did somewhat redeemed himself but he does really need to grow a pair.
Overall I was really impressed for this being the beta read through. I can't wait to see where the story goes from here. I would recommend it to sci-fi junkies.

*NOTE: Since publishing this review a newer version of the story has came out. It doesn't have that cliffhanger ending anymore and it is going in a different direction but I still feel the same way and feel the rating is accurate.

First a big thankyou to the author for gifting me with her books to review.

4.5 stars
I will be honest, compared to the prequel, it took me a long while to get into the rhythm of this book.
But when I did, this book I found was well written. I loved the flow of the story. Everything just came together nicely.

As for Miranda... she was a character I couldn't really decide on what to think about her. She had her moments where she was cool and other times where I would just roll my eyes but she wasn't that bad a majority of the time.

Dimas, I will be honest, really freaked me the hell out. To me in the beginning he came across as weird and creepy but as I read along he really did grow on me and I would love to know more about him in the second book. :) Took me a while to get to like him but he changed my mind in the end.

The flow of story went well, Ms. Doporto knows how to write well and would be a great author to look forward to with her other books.
Overall I did enjoy reading this book and I would highly recommend anyone and everyone to dive into and be captured by the plot.

Thankyou again to the author and happy reading to you all! :)

First off I would like to thank the author for allowing me to read her book. I was a beta reader on this book.
C.M. Doporto I don't know how you come up with these amazing stories but keep it up.
Wow this book was amazing. I read it in 4.5 hours. I couldn't put it down. I was captivated from page 1. (No spoliers)
This is based on what the human race fears the most. An invasion and our women being forced into breeding with another life form.
I loved how unique each person in this book was.
Miranda is kinda crazy and ridiculously brave.
The dad ugh I wanna smack him.
But the Eslites were by far the most unique.
Dimas creepy to the core you don't know what his true motivations are. He isn't necessarily bad but far from good.
The author creates a world that is eerily peace full at Nidus. But dark with the knowledge of horrible things going on.
I don't know what is scarier the calm manner of the Eslites or the fact they wanna take over the world.
I cant wait for the next book.

The Eslites: The Arrival
By: CM Doporto

What a adventure. Loved the characters. I would say the main character Miranda Mays is my favorite. I am normally a not big fan of this kind of stories of aliens taking over but this story pulled me in and kept me on edge wanting to see what was going to happen.
Story is about alien people coming to earth to taking young girls to use for their breeding purposes. They are without females in their race. So they are injecting and running all kinds of test on these girls. Things are not going right girls are dying and Miranda is determined to get to the bottom of it. While she save them?
Very well written. Fully kept my interest. Love to read part 2.

I received this book free in exchange for an honest review. Yeah!! (*does Victory Dance*)

Aliens using women's eggs to further their species? I was sucked right in. I had to know more. Turns out there's a lot of mystery surrounding this whole idea, and even after finishing this book, I still have questions unanswered. But boy, did I enjoy the ride! I liked Miranda, I sympathized with her family troubles (her stiff father, her submissive mother, her little bro ). I was intrigued by the connection between Miranda and Dimas, like, what, I mean WHAT is going on there??

I'm dying to read the next one!! (Thank you very much Mr. Abrupt Ending-Cliffhanger!!)

I received an ARC copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This is my kind of book: scifi, mystery, adventure, and a bit of romance thrown in for good measure. It is a solid story and well on its way to being a must-read for fans of the genre.

Overall: keep in mind that it is an advance copy, so there are still a few grammatical and spelling errors. However, the story is there and lends itself to being an amazing series. I look forward to seeing what happens next!!

Story: I am a fan of this genre and do tend to be a bit picky about my scifi, but I love the overall story. It kept me wanting to read more and not wanting to put the book down (causing a few late nights!) due to the mystery and challenges to overcome. The one problem I did have with the story though was that things seemed to be a bit too convenient at times; things just happened to fall perfectly into place with no real explanation as to why.

Characters: the main character is a strong feisty female with a lot of potential and ample amounts of skill and know-how. Sound familiar? With the introduction of her friends, I was excited to see this character not fall into the loner trap. However, she seemed to not want their help. I don't want to get into spoiler territory, but there are situations that could have been handled and solved better had her friends just done it. Like a divide and conquer technique. Also, I would love to know more about the Eslites themselves. Prequel, perhaps? ;)

I have two issues with this book...first, and least important because I am reading an ARC, are the grammatical issues. I hope that these will be corrected before the book is released. The second is how it ended...talk about cliff hanger although agree that if you were going to have one, this was the perfect place for it. I just hate to wait!

What I liked is the concept (in that it was different). That an alien, but not so alien, race comes to Earth because they do not have any females to procreate and seek a partnership whereby they will help humans with cures to diseases like cancer in exchange for harvesting womens eggs in an attempt to save their race. The Eslites genetic make up is very similar to humans, except they are a bit more advanced. I was pulled in rather quickly because things were not as simple as it seemed. As Miranda learns, the Eslites are not quite following the agreement outlined to the government and girls are dying or being kept longer than the agreed upon terms. She herself is threatened and decides to try to seek her father's and other important government officials help in changing the current agreement. However, things don't go exactly as planned and she'll find herself risking her life to save the girls.

So far, so good and I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

First posted to http://bookyramblings.wordpress.com/2...

I had the pleasure of Beta reading this for the author. It was a book I had been looking for to reading since I had read The Eslites. Because this is a Beta read it is possible that some scenes may change, and some scenes may be added or deleted, which makes a review fairly difficult.

When I read The Eslites I said I would have liked the story more if it had been longer, I didn’t know then that Doporto had intended to release the book in instalments, now that I have had the chance to read more of Miranda’s story with the Eslites I can honestly say this instalment is not enough. I want more because I’m greedy like that. And the next instalment cannot come fast enough.

At just 16 there is no doubt that Miranda is a strong character, she is forced into a situation that many older woman wouldn’t be able to cope with and she survives. But at the same time she is a typical teenager, some of her decisions are very childish and sometimes downright stupid.

Doporto’s writing draws the reader into her world almost effortlessly to the point that it is easy to ignore the world going on around you. This book in particular was so easy to read that I managed it in one sitting.

An Alien race arrives on Earth and begins to broker deals with the government. What they have to offer has the government salivating more than a St. Bernard knowing it is getting the Thanksgiving turkey to eat.

Dystopian/Alien themed books are not usually my cup of tea, but I was drawn into this book. Curious to know just what the aliens were planning to do. Ms. Doporto gives us a strong willed young woman, named Miranda, for a main character. The fate of many is placed in her hands. It was a bit unnerving to think that this could actually happen if intelligent life exists.

The book moves quickly and aside from a bit of whiny girl moments, which gives you a better understanding of what they endure, I enjoyed it. It is a first in a series, so I was left wanting more. I look forward to how the adventure plays out and whether Miranda is strong enough to win her freedom.

I recommend checking out the prequel, The Eslites. It gives you a good start.

When the aliens came they made some demands. They needed fertile girls to get eggs from to help with their reproduction issues. Miranda Mays was one of those girls stationed at a medical compound run by the aliens. She needs to come up with a plan to save the human race from the overpowering alien force that was brought to Earth.

I did like the parts with Dimas. I wanted more interactions with him and I found the rest of the story to be a little lacking. I was looking for more and more of him. Their interactions were so tension filled I really want to know what was going to happen next. It was not inspiring as I hoped it would be.

I have to say I did really in joy this book. I not a huge sci-fi person. The story have to grab me from the start for me to keep reading it and this book did that. I found this book to be a fast read.

I loved how brave Miranda was and how she was to save herself and others.

I have to say the twists and turns had me on the edge of my seat. and left me speachless for a while. the romance was so well written it spiced up the book in all the right spots.

I really enjoyed this read and I'm sure you will to!!

I was really excited to get my hands on this book. I loved the concept when CM told me about it and the book did not disappoint. This first installment of The Eslite Chronicles follows Miranda Mays as she navigates a new world where humanoid aliens (the Eslites) have partnered with actual humans in order to sustain their race. The story was action-packed and full of emotional decisions that will have you wondering what will happen next. I really liked the twist at the end that even Miranda didn't see coming. I'm looking forward to reading the next installment of this series!

I received this book from the author for an honest review. This book was a really fast paced book for a sci-fi read. Alien invasions - check. Stealing our women to impregnate - check. Lots of action - check. Romance - check. Suspense - check. This book has it all. Oh yeah, the heroine, Miranda, tries to save everyone. Great read by CM Doporto - would definitely recommend it to everyone.

I also liked that Miranda was really ready to sacrifice everything to help the other girls. I hope that her and Bryce are able to over come what is in store for them.

The Eslites: The Arrival is a wonderful YA Sci-Fi about the power in a persons will to survive, as well as the importance in having faith in those who support you. Miranda's continued fight, and her strange but enticing connection to Dimas will keep a reader wanting to know more with every turn of the page. I can't wait to read the sequel!

So... it's been roughly a year since I read The Arrival's prequel, well before the author actually made it into a series. I even mentioned that it had potential to be a good series, and here we are: it's actually a series!!! I signed up ASAP when I saw it available to be reviewed on David Estes Fans and YA Book Lover's R&R program, despite the fact I should probably be knocking out some books on a certain reading challenge. *coughs* 2014 TBR Pile Challenge *coughs*

Plus, I'm really surprised I actually read this really quickly, and I'm personally thinking it's probably because I must be getting tired of not going to school or something. Or maybe my mind is still in devouring mode after reading The Forever Song and The Body In the Woods (review in June).

Either way, it's a quick read, and the prequel is actually set after the prologue in The Arrival, but before Chapter 1. It's set about 3 years after the events in the prequel, and Miranda and the other girls in Nidus are ready to break free from the compound because they discover the Eslites are there for different reasons entirely.

This is no sappy romance you usually find in other alien stories where the alien falls in love with the human while trying to get away from an enemy species that's not by the name of human. This is pure "aliens are going to take over the world, and they're a dominant species with high-tech technology." It's not like Lux or the Lorien Legacies, where the aliens are trying to be inconspicuous. The Arrival is completely different from that, even though there are romantic elements mixed in. Miranda is a determined heroine wanting to break both her and the girls currently in the compound away from the Eslites true reasons. And she's preventing other girls meeting similar fates.

Then there are a few curve balls thrown at you, which is always the biggest plus in the bowl. And there's the ending, in which I'm extremely curious about because it probably does some more table turning. Actually, that ending did do a table flip, so all I'm doing is blinking rapidly and wondering if that really just happened and the book is over. o_o

Oh, and a random thought, but Dimas really isn't as bad as I thought he would be from the prequel.

Aliens arrive and want to breed with our teenage girls. Haven't seen a YA book about egg harvesting before, so unusual premise, but a little strange. Not much happens in this short book. It sets up the premise of the story and then ends with a major cliffhanger before anything is really accomplished.

I counted 17 versions of: "Mays are strong and never show weakness." A bit much for a 157 page novella.

Story was a little dark about taking eggs from teenage human girls to save an alien race, or else. Annoying that Miranda's father, Mayor Mays is unwilling to fight or help.

Dimas, the head alien Miranda executes a clever plan to appeal for help for the donor girls.

With-reservations:
prejudice, egg harvesting, aliens having sex with humans

Really enjoyable and fun book!

Pros
The fact that this books is so action packed made it really easy to read and get through! I also thought the concept of the book - aliens using human females for their eggs - was something I had never seen before in YA, and as dark as it is, it was still very interesting to read about! I should also mention that the last 40 pages or so were super exciting and I read the second half of the book in one sitting! The cliffhanger at the end was also something I did not see coming, and I'm nervous and excited about book two! I also felt like the main characters behaved like actual teenagers, without being able to shoot people or have ninja skills out of nowhere. The way they talked and acted made me really see them as teenagers, and YA sometimes has the tendency of making teenagers act like adults.

Cons
I definitely wished this book was longer! I can see that it serves more as a introduction to the series, but I thought that the fact that it was less than 200 pages made me not connect to the characters as much as I wanted to. Seeing more of Nidus and of The Eslites invasion would have been amazing, and I definitely hope the author explores more of that in the future books. I also thought that because of the fact that it was so short, some of the elements in the book felt unbelievable, and I sure hope that the next books in this series explore more of the world.

Overall, this was a quick enjoyable read and I'll definitely continue on with the series! :)

Pros:

-Miranda is a quite strong and intelligent character, yes she had her moments when she annoyed me but those moments just made her a more complete character in my mind.

-Kate: The perfect companion to Miranda, she brought great balance to the book, another strong character but in a different way so no cookie cutter characters

-Dimas: He intrigued me since the prequel and this book makes me want to see much more of him. I kind of picture him as a younger alien version of Tom Hiddleston.

-Overall all the characters were excellent, their presence made sense in the story, no one was just there to look pretty. Even Miranda's dad

-A very original Alien invasion very smart too, I can imagine how scared I would be to be selected to be a donor. It also was different to all the other alien stories where the plot focuses on the survival of a group in a ravaged planet, in this book the planet was “ok”.

Cons:

I really couldn’t find any cons in this book; the only thing that annoyed me a little bit was how many times the phrase “Mays are strong leaders. We never show weakness” I understand that Miranda but it bothered me a little bit.

I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for a honest review.

I do not usually read sci-fi novels, but I was intrigued by the premise of this story. The Human Race is in danger, but no one seems to realize it. They have accepted the Eslites and allowed them to do as they please in exchange for technology. It was decided that “Sacrifice some for the good of the whole” is the best step to ensure human survival. The sacrifice is made by young girls that have been deemed “worthy” by the Eslites. One of these women is Miranda, whose strength of character intrigued Dimas, the Eslite leader, and made her a prime candidate. This story takes us through Miranda’s journey to try and escape and free her friends from the Eslites. I enjoyed Miranda’s selflessness and determination to free the women at the camp. I am curious to see if Dimas cares more about Miranda then he lets on and how that relationship will unfold. And yes, Miranda’s dad drove me nutty. I would like to see how he would fare at the camp. Overall, a good read.

Why isn’t the next book in this wonderful series available yet? Admittedly it started slow and it does get wrapped up in technical details and daily life inside the sterile facility, but it did wrap me into Miranda’s constrictive life and her yearning for freedom and it is incredibly fun reading as Miranda embarks on her mission to free herself of the Eslite technology and find sympathetic authorities.. There is a tantalizing possible romance with the Eslite leader Dimas who looks like he’s out to seduce her, enthrall her, or possibly genuinely wants to help her. It did irk me how old-fashioned and chauvinistic her father was as well as most of the aliens and mostly all of the adult humans. With such a progressive female, you’d expect more to be seeing women on equal footing, which made it feel like the story was set in the 40s (but there is a use of cell phones which argues against being set in the past). But the ending, wow, left me on a major cliffhanger and wanting more, now. It reminded me a bit of V and Gattaca.

Such an amazing book. I know that anything that the author, C.M. Doporto writes I'm going to love! I fell in love with her short story, the one that came before this book, and knew that this story idea was pure brilliance. I'm not really a Sci-fi fan but I do like this book. I guess it takes a great book to change your mind about a genre you previously didn't like.

I love the main character, Miranda. She was brave, strong, and a very relatable character. She's fun to read about and she isn't dull or boring. She is unique and a great heroine.

Overall, this book was fantastic and amazing! I recommend this book to everyone. It's a awesome book, trust me!
