Legend of the Dawn #1-3

Legend of the Dawn: The Complete Trilogy

Rate this book
Having been drawn to the wild for a number of years, young Luke McKinney is forced to leave 1839 St. Louis for the North Country even sooner than he expected to go. At seventeen, along with a female companion and an elderly father figure, he is literally running for his life.

With the law pursuing him and the wilderness unforgiving, he finds himself caught up in a survival system that has nothing to do with civilization or laws.

Then the unthinkable happens, the love of his life is taken from him. It is during the pursuit of her captors that Luke finds a strength and determination that will shape his moral existence for the remainder of his life.

This is a trilogy of books that spans the lives of Luke McKinney and Breanne Bruyere, their undying love, through hell and high water, for over fifty years.

Daring, thrilling, romantic, historic... What else is there? UNFORGETABLE!

Legend of the Dawn: The Complete Trilogy (Legend of the Dawn #1-3)
by J.R. Wright

This is the story of seventeen year old Luke McKinney and young Breanne Bruyere set in 1839-1870 America. The story starts with Luke traveling from St.Louis to the North country. It is an adventurous and emotional tale, filled with Indian wars, secrets, love and loss. With likable characters, thrilling story line a fantastic historical drama, spanning fifty years. Definitely a page turning all night read. I strongly recommend reading in sequence.

Nice read waiting for the next book in the series and anxious to see how it works out. I like the narration and how it holds your interest for the next book.

Anachronistic language and ideas, as expected in a western pulp novel.

This story is ok as far as it goes. I have. Some quibbles over the idea of badger towns, boarding horses etc., but the real resistance to this tale is with the style that was used more in the first book than the last, but still prevalent throughout. The Great White Savior and the superior mind of the white race. Stories with this attitude are becoming extinct for good reason. I enjoyed such mindless reading in my youth, but seek out better reasoned scripts to feed my imagination today. This is not to say that I will only read the politically correct sanitized versions to keep my thoughts pure, I just prefer a bit more from my authors. Minor editing errors, nothing too jarring, relatively clean language, mild descriptive carnal romance scenes.

A great read!

I love a good western and this was a wonderful story with a lot of twists band turns. I really grew to have an attachment to the characters and and the story kept me engaged throughout. A book filled with a lot of emotions, and well thought out history. And a new found anger at the way our government treated the Indians and the carefree way they gave and then broke the many treaties negotiated with them. All in all I thought it was a great story.

The Truth At Last

Book s about the settling of this country and the Native American people have always been a favorite of mine. This is a great book, one of the best. I have read. I admire Mr. Wright for adding to a very good story facts that just happen to be the truth. I would recommend to anyone who reads, this well worth the time, just an all round good book for anyone.

I didn't want the story to end!

I loved the way the "fictional" characters were woven into history and historical characters we're all familiar with. I've always felt when reading a historical novel, that there were so many people involved in the history of the world, whose names we never knew, how do we really know that they were fictional?

A great yarn!

The only thing wrong with a book like this is it must end at sometime. As I read the tale I kept looking down at the page numbers to prepare me for the conclusion. What a great ride! Well done!

Profanity!!!

It's a shame that authors can't tell a story without using profane language. I made it to page 35. It was starting to be a good story too.
