Fire & Ice #2

Baby, It's Cold Outside

Rate this book
Librarian's note: This is an alternate cover edition for ASIN: B00B0J815Q.

Just when he thought life couldn't get any better he's suddenly feeling it couldn't be any worse. Carter's got the love of his longtime dream girl. At least, he did until Justine's accident made her forget that they were involved. He's got to pull out all the stops to help her remember or his future is going to go completely off of the rails. Good thing he's got a plan...

***Due to language and sexual content, this book is not suitable for people under 17, people who find course language offensive, those with prudish tastes, and most importantly, readers who don't think a younger man is HOT.

Do you ever want to know what the hero of a romance novel is thinking? Where Just Add Heat tells Justine's story, Baby, It's Cold Outside gives you Carter's version of the same events. It's true what they say; men and women don't think in the same way. The difference is all in the perspective!

This is the companion book to Just Add Heat, but the story stands alone.

I'm a writer of romancy chick lit that leans to the steamy side, mother to a surly teen, and general dogsbody for my husband's audio company. In my dark past I've been a bank teller, waitress, bookkeeper, telemarketer (I'm sorry!), bartender, chef, and restaurant owner. Writing has been the one thing that I've always done, and I'm such a sucker for a happy ending that I can't write anything else.

My deserted island must have: a loaded Kindle with a solar charger. That is, of course, only if there's plenty of food available.

I spend an inappropriate amount of time thinking about funny things and sexytimes--all in the name of book research of course!

I really liked this book and plan on reading the prequel, PreHeat, to get the cute backstory and see how Carter managed to snag Justine. But I have no desire to read book #1 because I don't need a rehash of what I've already read. I love 2 POV' s and can't help but think this whole tale could have been really great if we got to have both pov' s simultaneously rather than reading it again to get the other side of the story.

It was cute, sexy and different. The whole premise of partial amnesia for a main character in a committed relationship is fun to read and not the usual fare for conflict in romance novels. I'm just not down with the whole "companion" novel bs.

I got this book for two reasons: 1) the title hinted at a seasonal/holiday theme, *AND* 2) it's an amnesia book, and I like those. Typically. Or at least, I try to.

I hate this book for FAR more reasons than that. The first of which is that it has NOTHING to do with anything seasonal/holiday. FALSE ADVERTISING!!!

The story is horrible. There is NO description at all. When they go to the farmer's market, we aren't told if it's in a park or a city lot, what they sell, what the booths look like, who they see, what they buy (aside from asparagus)... we don't even have any idea what the characters look like. *NO* description.

The story is about Carter, who's live-in girlfriend slips getting out of the shower and hits her head on the toilet. She has a concussion, and wakes up not remembering the past two years of her life... which means she doesn't remember even getting WITH Carter, although she knows who he is (her best friend's much younger brother). So Carter has to help her remember him and get over the age thing all over again. With much sex to help.

The story is BADLY told. Meaning there are three epilogues that show the things we're told in the story, in "prologues as epilogues" - and it just doesn't work. It isn't until the second epilogue that we even know how big of an age gap there IS between the two.

It was just... badly, badly done. And the characters aren't anything special - Justine is bitchy and bratty, and Carter is juvenile and needy. It was simply not worth the time to read it.

First paragraph: I heard the alarm on my phone ring and sat up to turn it off before rolling over.
"Juss, wake up." She didn't budge so I shook her shoulder lightly. "Baby, come on." I was on concussion watch, worried now, and about to get loud when her eyelinds opened a crack."
"What are you doing?"

"Baby, It's Cold Outside" is a novella length romance novel told from the male lead's point of view. I usually am very interested in getting into the 'thoughts' of the male in a romance novel, probably because they are so foreign to me. However, I had a difficult time with this book and with the male lead, Carter. In the story, Carter is the younger male, in a 2-year relationship with an older woman, the best friend of his older sister. Jess, the girlfriend, has suffered a head injury and has forgotten the last two years of her life, putting Carter through the equivalent of relationship-hell on the very weekend he was planning on proposing to the love of his life.

The story is well written and engaging, and surprising free from grammatical errors. I just couldn't do the cougar thing. I need an alpha male. It's a personal thing.

Amnesia

Baby it’s Cold Outside is an interesting read. To start off the title has nothing to do with the storyline at all and starts interestingly with the reader feeling as if they may of missed something. There was constant issues of the female characters name being switched from her nickname to actual name. At points the storyline was uncomfortable to read with some sexual details written in a way that just made the reader uncomfortable (have read sexual books so it wasn’t the issue of sex yet how it was written and the wording used). It was made fun of how a female may feel how males talk/interpret things. The storyline however was interesting as for myself I haven’t read anything like it (a guy tries to get his girlfriend to remember their relationship after she gets amnesia) however the book could of ended there with her memory coming back as the extra chapter although it gave the characters closure wasn’t relevant to the storyline. Also the final chapters provided extra details into which were talked about in the story and could have just been incorporated in the storyline rather than just put at the end.

What a hell of a weekend for this poor guy. I couldn’t picture it. Wondering if you’d lost everything on what should have been one of the best, most exciting days of your life. And the author lays it out so realistically that you can’t help but feel for the characters.

This story being a romance from the male POV is just phenomenal. It’s an awesomely heart wrenching love story, but with a bit more kick. None of the frilly, girlie stuff here. The story draws you in without asking and doesn’t let you go. Although Jourdin’s writing style remains consistent from the first novel in the series, but yet changes to accommodate Carter as the POV character. It’s quite unique.

Character development in this novel is minimal, however, the characters are so well laid out in the first novel in the series that it would be redundant here and would actually break the smooth flow of the story. We do, however, find out more about Carter and his view on the other characters in the novel.

All I have to say right now is that I F-IN LOVE this story. It was the embodiment of awesomeness. Taking this unique storyline, that was already atypical for the genre, and telling it from the male POV just pushed it over the top.

Please note that I received this novel free of charge from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Carter is devastated when, his girlfriend, Justine has an accident and gets amnesia. She has lost the last two years of her life so she doesn't remember that they are in love and living together. Carter was planning to propose to Juss on the day of her accident but, of course, he couldn't do that until Juss got her memory back. Carter tries to recreate special past events, hoping they will help bring back Juss' memory.

There wasn't much character description in Baby, It's Cold Outside but I gather that is because this is not the first book in the series. Even so, I really liked Carter but was not crazy about Justine. I really didn't like Carter's sister, Cheryl.

This story was unique because it was told from Carter's POV. I felt so sorry for him when it was obvious that he loved Juss so much and she didn't remember loving him. The story was well written and I especially found the emotional descriptions to be great. I was worried for Carter and hoping things would work out for him. This story had me in tears and also laughing at times.

I found the Prologue as Epilogue confusing and thought some of it should have come into the story earlier to make the events more understandable.

I haven't read the first book, from Justine's point of view, this one was free which swung my vote.

Carter wakes Justine up - she's hit her head and the doctor has advised waking her every two hours. The trouble is Justine remembers him - but not why he is in bed with her. It's as though the last two years never happened.

We see Carter trying to help Justine regain her memory by recreating events from their past - and worrying that she may have subconsciously chosen to forget their relationship.

This was short and enjoyable. Carter's comments occasionally jarred - most of the time he didn't "read" young but every so often he would do or say something which seemed out of character, which is when his character demonstrated his youth.

Not sure, based on this, that I would pay to read the first book.

Justine has an accident and she forgets two previous years of her life. Carter is frantic as she does not remember living with him. She knows him though. His sister is her best friend. At that time she did not even like him. She is older to him and that seems to bother her.

Carter does not know what to do. They were going to be engaged and she does not remember a thing! Slowly with his patience and love, she start remembering the past. It is narrative from the male point of view. Some might find the couple cute but it did nothing for me. And I found it quite mundane too, at some places. It is one time read and one can safely forget it after reading. I downloaded it for free. I am not going to buy anything by this author.

This was...different. I kinda liked it/kinda didn't like it. Quite a few editing issues. Although Justine and Carter's weekend was described to every detail, the characters themselves were not. I like to at least be able to visualize what the characters look like and with the vagueness of their descriptions, I couldn't. The story is told from the male POV. I don't think that helped this story. As I didn't learn any new female/male secrets. Basically Carter's POV just confirmed what I already knew...

I didn't read the first book on this series. Apparently it's not continuance, but rather the same story as book 1 told from the male point of view.
It's a quick, fun read. I thought the female character was demanding but it was apparently to show that the guy would do anything for her.
The title has nothing to do with the story, so that was misleading. The characters could have been described better also. Over all it was pretty good. Good enough to hold my attention and keep me reading so that I finished it in 2 days.

This was a free book given for an honest review. Though the story was given from a male point of view, I couldn't believe that the main character Carter was believable or as shallow and self-centered as he was in this book.

Maybe I should have read the Fire & Ice, #1, first. After three attempts I did finish this book. I would have preferred more depth of character and more background information. MPV doesn't mean raw reasoning or stripped down descriptions.

I found the prologue confusing because it's placement at the end of book.

The book 1 was pretty good but this was the exact same story from the male character's point of view. Not a good idea. Boring and not as good as the first book by any means. Lots of editing errors and things that they didn't catch as inconsistencies between the two books. Would like a sequel to the story but this was a big waste.

I am rating this with three stars, because that's what the heroine's POV got from me too.
For all of you who have read the first installment, no need to bother with this one because you will have to read all the dialogues from part one again here...

This book was okay. It was nice to get the perspective of the other side and helped a few things make more since. However 90% of the book is exactly the same as the 1st one, Just Add Heat. Took me longer to read because I found the story boring, like I read the same book twice in a row.

I did not read the 1st book and not sure I needed to. I was confused with what appeared to be three epilogues. seemed like one or a combination of them could have been at the front of the book. other than the organization of content I really liked the story.

3.5 stars I didn't read the companion story from Justine's POV, but it was still sort of fun to read a romance from the hero Carter's POV.

Loved seeing it from carter's point of view. It made the scenes more interesting and to see how he struggled along with Justine with her memory loss.

Really disappointed that I bought this book, it's just a rehash of Book #1 but from Carter's perspective. I thought it would be a continuation of their lives.

2.5 stars. A fast read. No read depth but highly entertaining. I didn't read the first book so have nothing to compare it with. Based on other reviews, I don't think I need to read book 1.

Cute premise but unfortunately, I was distracted by amateurish writing (sorry) and the fact that this did not sound like a guy's point of view at all to me.
