The Mastermind has upped his game . . .

As Kitty can tell you, it's not easy being the wife of the vice president - especially not when he's an alien from the Alpha Centauri system. And being a parent of preternaturally talented children, don't even go there. But she and her A-C husband, Jeff, have learned how to roll with whatever life and the bad guys throw at them - they think.

Kitty & Company have been savouring a few months of quiet since they got back from Beta Eight. But suddenly their peace is shattered by the arrival of a mysterious female assassin - who might be Jeff's missing niece, Stephanie. And that's just the beginning of the fun.

When the Alpha Centauri Planetary Council requests a visit with the president and vice president, things look politically dicey. When the most dangerous prisoners in the most secure supermax prison escape with ease, things look bad. But when the Mastermind releases a virus that kills people in a week, things go to Defcon Worse fast.

Now it's up to Kitty to save everyone important in the U.S. government - including her mother, her husband, and herself - before the virus spreads through the rest of the country, and then the world. Plus she's facing invisible attackers, crazed assassins, a teenager in hiding, the most dangerous train ride ever, the disappearance of her beloved flyboys, and a mysterious alien who could be an enemy or the ally she needs.

and this time, the Mastermind's made it very personal. Either he's going down . . . or Kitty is.

It's not often you can reach book 12 in a series and still have an author surprise you with the direction the story takes. There aren't many authors out there like Gini Koch though and not only is she an expert at creating action packed stories that are full of sub plots upon sub plots run by a huge cast of wonderful supporting characters but she also fills her books with so much humour that they never fail to make me laugh out loud. Kitty is undoubtedly one of my favourite characters, she comes up with such hair-brained schemes and you can honestly never guess what she'll try next but you know for sure she'll come out fighting and that any bad guys in the vicinity had better watch out.

We have been watching the Mastermind pulling the strings for a long time now, he's done a lot of despicable things and caused the deaths of some much loved characters but now Kittye and crew are onto him and they're working hard to bring him down. Unfortunately it's not quite as simple as calling him out since they have absolutely no evidence to use against him and they're pretty sure he has several back up plans in place in case anything happens to him. It's no use cutting off the head if the hydra is just going to grow a few more replacements so this really does need to be done carefully. Unfortunately the Mastermind has a few more tricks up his sleeve and when he kicks off one of his Doomsday plans Kitty realises that the people she cares most about are in more danger than they've ever faced before.

You're in for a crazy journey in Alien in Chief so you should just sit back and enjoy the ride. Crazy fight scenes, snake attacks, a deadly virus, alien visitors, invisible armies, old enemies finally getting what they deserve, new allies found, old allies lost and so much more can be found in these pages. The fun never stops but you should also be prepared for a few tears because not everyone makes it to the end of the book. Things have also taken a really interesting turn and the future is about to get extremely interesting for Jeff and Kitty as the series continues. I can't wait for Camp Alien!

Twelve books into the Katherine “Kitty” Katt series and Gini Koch is still able to deliver a fast-paced, action-packed thrill ride that stays true to what faithful readers love about the series but still manages to throw in some unexpected twists and turns.

What I love about this series is the fact that no matter what situation Kitty finds herself in, her voice never gets old. Right from the very first page, Kitty’s narration grips you and it makes the 500+ pages that this book is a little more tolerable because of her friendly, affable nature.

This is definitely not a series to be read out of order. However, I think new readers can still appreciate the fact that each book is its own journey. Even though larger threats are happening all around Kitty and her crew, Koch does some things that really ground her character and make her more relatable. For example, Kitty can kick ass in a fight but she struggles to take care of her two children. The younger one seems to be developing some new abilities that they don’t know how to control or understand yet so it’s definitely fun to see how they will handle that. I love the fact that despite this is all set in an alternate world with aliens and the Mastermind, etc, there is still something very genuine about Kitty and I think that’s why this series is able to go on for so long. Readers find that she isn’t that much different than the rest of us.

As I mentioned earlier, this book is quite long (as most sci fi novels are) so a lot can happen. I think Koch’s writing continues to get better with each book. Each chapter ending pushes me to read more. Each new advancement makes me wonder how in the hell Koch is able to come up with this stuff. Her imagination has no bounds and that’s what makes this series so fun to read. Anything can happen.

ALIEN IN CHIEF is another fantastic installment to the series. Bursting with action with a few laughs along in the way, the Katherine “Kitty” Katt series is sure to be your next reading addiction!

*My Thoughts*

Alien in Chief is the Twelfth installment in Gini Koch's Katherine "Kitty" Katt series. This is the episode I have been waiting patiently for since the unmasking of the Mastermind in the previous installment called Alien Separation. The mastermind is as devious and nasty as he is brilliant to the point where he is always one step ahead of Kitty and her gang sworn to protect her from his machinations.

500 pages of non-stop action. These people will never have a quiet day. But to be fair, they have had many quiet days since her second baby has been born. Quiet for a time then.

*Other aliens are coming to visit. Hey, what a state visit!
*The bad guys are still out there. And the mastermind, even if they know who he is but can't do anything about it. I really hate that guy.
*Let's see, other bad things going in. Someone is trying to kill everyone. But who is it?
* And a mystery virus that kills really fast. The clock is ticking on that one.

But I must say, the constant need to tell me what she is listening too. After 12 books I fear I am rather tired of that. I can live without that.

I also felt that there was not enough Martini. I know that she is a big girl and can handle herself, but sniff, I love Jeff. I want more Jeff and Kitty action (and I am not talking about the bed here.)

I have seriously started to doubt they will ever be happy on this planet. There are so many crazy peeps trying to kill them. That evil church. Hybrids. Sorry earth, maybe they should just leave and find a nice beach somewhere. But there are more books so hopefully they can find all the crazy ones and live happily ever after.

This book does pack a few punches 0_0

Kitty, Martini and Co. are back for more non-stop action and I could not have asked for more.

I absolutely love this world Gini Koch has created, 12 books in and I hope we get many more. Yes, there is a lot of plot under the bridge and I do recommend you read these books in order, but Gini does a great job keeping us returning readers in the scoop and reminding us of previous operations A.K.A. novels.

There is a bit story for everyone, alien races visiting, action, romance, intrigue, mystery... This series makes my heart beat faster and is always one of the best parts of the year.

The mastermind' end goal is in sight and there is a lot of development in the overall plot. I for one cannot wait for more!

If I had one complaint it would be that I wish we got ore Martini... but I can't really complain, Gini akes me fall in love with these characters again and again with each book.

If you enjoy a great sci-fi romp, this is the series for you... I totally recommend it!

Quick & Dirty: Kitty’s back to fight the Mastermind in another action-packed, crazy and heartbreaking installment.

Opening Sentence: Ah, to see the world, travel to exotic locations, and meet interesting people. Sounds great, doesn’t it?

The Review:

The twelfth novel in the Alien/Katherine “Kitty” Katt series finally has Kitty and her crew back on track to take down the Mastermind. After the two previous novels, one of which did have Kitty learning the identity of the Mastermind but otherwise, were more like side journeys and then barely a year and a half of downtime for Kitty as she had her & Jeff’s second child, all that time and the gang still couldn’t come up with valid proof of who the Mastermind is and how to take him out. This novel does heavily rely on the previous books so I do highly recommend reading the previous novels. You could read it as a standalone but I don’t recommend it, there are a lot of reminders in the book for things that are pertinent but as in depth as this series is there is still so much more that you would be missing out on.

Less than two years have passed since Kitty’s adventure on Beta Eight. Life has been pretty uneventful for Kitty, yes, she had her second child but she hasn’t had to put her life in danger in quite a while. The Planetary Council have decided they want to visit planet Earth. Kitty and the American Centurion don’t know why they want to visit but they all agree that now is not a good time because of a variety of reasons but they also know that they can’t say no. One of the reasons for the bad timing is that an unknown female assassin is now targeting A-C’s, A-C sympathizers and Kitty. Thankfully, she always arrives on a Harley, so Kitty has plenty of time to try to thwart the assassin’s plans.

Plans are made to meet with the Planetary Council at the NASA base in Florida. For some reason, they decide that they must make the trip by train, a special “Rail Force One”. The President, the Vice-President and other members of the Statehouse are making this very special trip. As always, trips can never go smoothly and no matter how much they prepare, Kitty and the A-C’s must be ready for an attack. The Mastermind has stepped up his game and it seems that there are may actually be more than one group trying to take down Kitty and the aliens. The train scene is crazy, over the top action that I can totally see in a movie. This scene is also perfectly portrayed on the book cover.

This series continues to be crazy, over the top fun. I really enjoy the humor and the musical playlist that is more of a partner to Kitty than even Richard White. It’s not all fun and games though, there are some hard times for Kitty. These books are really long so sometimes I do forget some of the events that happen at the beginning, which, in my eyes can be a good and bad thing. The story is definitely not boring.

Kitty is crazy, funny and sometimes crazy funny. She likes to think outside the box so of course, her solutions are a little nutty, which as a reader keeps me on my toes because I don’t know what she’s going to do next. The secondary characters and the way that Kitty interacts with them are some of my favorite moments in the books but I really like the animals. I really want a Poof of my own.

Overall, I wasn’t entirely surprised by some of the events in the novel especially when the name of the novel itself is a spoiler. I had a bad feeling that this novel would end badly and continue to the next. Thankfully, it didn’t end on a cliffhanger but there are things that are left undone. Hopefully, these stories will be wrapped up in the next installment.

Notable Scene:

“Honestly, Mom, I’d prefer not to tell any of you what I’m planning. In no small part because Jeff and Christopher are the worst liars in the world. I know you pulled up how you used to feel about Chuckie for that ‘fight,’ Jeff. I don’t think you can do that for the ‘where is your wife going’ question.”

I hate to admit it, baby, but you’re right on both. I’d like to know, but it’s probably better that I don’t.” He sighed. “And you know how bad it is when I’m letting you do this, without me and without argument.”

“Don’t worry, Jeff,” Christopher said. “Kitty’s plan will be something insane and foolhardy that will put her and everyone else on her team in mortal peril. Several times, most likely.”

“You don’t know me.”

“Just be really clear about your location when you call for help.”

“You remain not my favorite, Christopher.”

He grinned. “Nice to see that Jeff’s still number one in your heart.”

“And in the bedroom.”

“Too much information!” That was said in unison by most of the room.

Jeff just grinned. “Even when we face the potential end of the world, it still sucks to be me.”

As always, Gini Koch's Alien series is great value.

Another entertaining story, great characters and I love an author who isn't afraid to follow a story through even if this means losing characters I love. Looking at you Laurell K Hamilton ;-)

Some time passed since Kitty's adventure in space. Not much happened beside the fact that Kitty's son Charlie was born and - finally - Amy and Christopher expecting their first child. But then another assassin started to bring terror to Washington: a masked person on a motorbike armed with a crossbow tries to kill some of the people near Kitty and even tries to kill her friend Lillian Carver just when she is about to learn some news from her. And then the Planetary Council announces their intention to visit Earth which also stirs trouble among the people around president Armstrong. And in addition, Kitty is visited by their ally Benjamin Siler who asks for a favour: His kind of adopted daughter, a teenager called Lizzie, is in trouble after having pranked the pampered kids at her private school. Unfortunately, those kids all have ties to people in Washington who are not friends with the Armstrong administration in generell and the A-Cs in particular. Therefore, Siler wants to keep Lizzie save and no place is saver than American Centaurion embassy.

To prepare for the visit of the Council, Armstrong and Jeff decide to meet them at NASA base in Florida and to travel with their entourage their by train - railforce one and two. But their enemies are always one step ahead and what seems to be a nice and easy trip at first ends in a nightmare..

After having finished the previous book - Alien Separation - I was a bit worried because even though I liked the book, it was partially a bit boring. Therefore, I was curious what Gini Koch has up her sleeve for Kitty's next adventure. And boy, she did not disappoint me!! I was hooked at the beginning and couldn't put it down. A rollercoaster of action and the idea with virus was brilliant and heartbreaking to read while good friends of Kitty died. Normally, I'm not bloodthirsty but in the end I really hated this smug bastard, the mastermind.

I don't want to spoil but there were two losses in particular which brought tears to my eyes. People in this book dropped like flies and this was horrible to read and I really feared for some of my favourite characters but fortunately Kitty saved the world again. It was a great read; very funny and extremely captivating and I'm glad to say that this was better than the last one.

We were left behind with a small cliffhanger in the end as some people are still missing and I'm really looking forward to the next book and hopefully an explanation who this mysterious Mr. Drax and what's his agenda is. I already pre-ordered the next book which will be published in May 2016. I keep my fingers crossed that Amazon Germany will not take too long to ship the book once it is available.

I enjoyed Alien in Chief, though I admit that it's getting harder to remember all the characters--and who is now good --or not, though the author is good at filling in the background. Even so, .... More mayhem--and suspense--and I always hate losing my favorite characters--and having villains escape again. Though what really bothered me was the unlikelihood of having an alien become president even though he was in the United States presidential line of succession (see below). But it's still a good read, and I enjoyed meeting old friends--and the poofs, though I'd have liked to see more of them and other characters, but the stage is getting crowded.

Note: Current list:
Vice President, Speaker of the House, President pro tempore of the Senate, Secretary of State, Secretary of the Treasury, Secretary of Defense, Attorney General, Secretary of the Interior, Secretary of Agriculture, Secretary of Commerce, Secretary of lLabor, ... (I was curious.)

I liked it. As always, I laughed lots, cried a few times, and had fun on the ride.

But a lot of the characters I like seeing in action were mostly not present for the action. Very little of Jeff, Chuckie and Christopher (what was so great about the last book was seeing them plus Kitty right at the head of all the action again, just like in the early books). And not as much fun with Richard, which made me sad, because we didn't get him in the last book at all.

And there were some bits that I just didn't understand. Mostly:

Oh, and I feel like this book underscored Kitty's badass DNA, that I have been theorizing about (and I think wrote about in the last review).

Lastly...

FINALLLY. Things are coming together! Although it’s always so hard when characters die it’s also hugely unrealistic that the good guys only lose a handful of people. War is not pretty, nice, neat, or sensitive to those you love. This book had elements that played right into the timeline of this year and it was so wild reading it and being like “that’s literally happening right now lol”

I love that we got to see more Adriana and that there won’t be anymore pussyfooting with Cliff. Similar to Kitty I would rather not deal with all the politics and just get to the good stuff but there must always be a balance 🤷🏽‍♀️

When the last book came to an end I was wondering why earth wasn’t represented on the council but it looks like that might be happening now!

Also, I wonder what Stephanie is gonna do now that TCC has been activated 🤔 so much to think about and do all the time. Very action packed this book was.

Such an addictive series.

Love all the drama in this book. The characters are as snarky as always, and I always enjoy rereading any of the books in this series. Huge upheavals this time round, both personal and politically, and once again Kitty has to say goodbye to people in her life. While a great book in the series, definitely not one to read out of order. Highly recommend this series if you love sci-fi, series heavy on the political machinations, and a long running plot.

Don't read this one during a pandemic

Unless you want to scream at the page " Why aren't you wearing masks? You should be social distancing! Why don't the doctors have PPE??? " The book is a fine entry in the Kitty Katt series, but it was written in a pre-COVID world, so the airborne virus storyline plays reads very differently now.

Code Name: First Lady

Powerful and emotional, but not without lightness at times - you'll cry and laugh and feel more than you're prepared to when you read Alien in Chief. This is the most intense book in the series up to this point (which is saying something), and a prescient one. It also gives me hope. So dive into Alien and Chief, but make sure to have your tissues ready.

“Alien In Chief” by Gini Koch is book 12 in the ‘Alien’ series. Kitty and her husband are settling into the vice-presidency roles so of course additional challenges have to disrupt everything! A mysterious bow-wielding assassin, a train trip to Florida to greet a visiting alien delegation, and all of the mayhem and chaos that goes with thwarting the Mastermind and other enemies provide plenty of opportunity for moves and counter-moves that mobilize allies and enemies alike.

The wonderful blend of reality and fantastical science fiction adventures provides hours of entertainment in this series that continues to ramp up the excitement while exploring how aliens can get well-assimilated into Earth politics. The hints being delivered through song choices, the escalation of events that will alter the tenor of human and alien relations, the challenge of trying to defeat the Mastermind without losing allies, the fortuitous provision of an essential piece of equipment that didn’t even require discussion with the refrigerator, plus the use of Poof Approval for vetting folks all add up to another wacky and exciting chronicle of the adventures of Kitty Katt-Martini and hubby and VPOTUS Jeff.

A train ride to rival any trial under fire, enemies galore, and biological warfare add up to a plethora of changes and unexpected events that aren’t all resolved by the end of this book. One definitely needs a quick breather to catch up on things, and woe betide you if you forget who is on which side. Of course, what was true yesterday may not be true tomorrow, so the best thing is to dive in and hang on for a totally wacky ride…but better if you have read the rest of the series so you don’t have such an intense case of whiplash. This is another fun and hair-raising set of adventures featuring an intrepid and occasionally klutzy but loyal and protective woman who finds a way to utilize all of the resources at her command in order to save the day. Warning, tissues should be close at hand…if only to deal with the fallout of infectious disease…and I am very relieved that I already have the next book in the series waiting to be consumed!

NUMBER OF HEARTS: 4
Long live Wolverine with Boobs!!! Kitty is back and she is not bothering to take names this time.
I really enjoyed the opening scene with Jamie complaining about Charlie. Cracked me up!! I would have loved to see more of the kid-o’s, but being at war is not the best place for them to be. And super excited that Becky is here!!!!
Each time I pick up one of Ms. Koch’s books I realized what a complicated and involved series this is (meaning you need to start with book one and read in order). I am very thankful that she recaps the characters. At times I feel like I need a cheat sheet to keep track of everyone. :)
This was a fun book because as always Kitty does some serious butt kicking and who knew she could drive a motorcycle so well. But sad at the same time because there were too many deaths. And damn it Mastermind got away AGAIN!!! Can’t he just be gone already??
I can’t wait to see what happens next because I am not sure that Earth is ready for the new President and First Lady. Oh and don’t forget the first children!!! Pack your bags Jeff & Kitty your shiny new house is White.

Wisecracks, Action and a Fun Romp

Fun series continues with more dastardly deeds by the Mastermind. Kitty continues to listen to music, make wisecracks, and kick butt. The cast has expanded so much that a large portion of the book is spent in telling groups of people what to do and where to go. Although Kitty remains vibrantly in the front, Jeff, Christopher, Chuck, James and others who were interesting and close get only small inserts from time to time. Others get even less. The action actually begins past the center of the book while the first part is taken up with logistics of who is going to Florida and who is staying in D. C., calculations on what the Mastermind is up to, and Kitty's complaints about behaving and dressing appropriately. The large cast is slightly shortened with eliminations during the last half. Yet this still makes for a fun, action packed, romp. I only wish for a little more personal exchange and depth between Kitty and some of my favorite people: Jeff, Christopher, James, Oliver and Chuck. Olga and her daughter were a nice touch, as were the friendly assassin's. Maybe every single person from all 12 books doesn't have to be mentioned in every story even though they were great in the book that introduced them. It feels unwieldy.

Alien in Chief is the 12th book in the Kitty Katt series. Still full of humour, high powered action, explosions, gorgeous aliens, prison escapes, deaths and cute kids & pets. Not to mention visiting aliens of the Planetary Council.

The Mastermind, Cliff, is still hanging around doing the schmuze and our good buddies still haven't got enough to convict him. That doesn't stop him from escalating the action and it slowly dawns on Kitty that Cliff knows that he has been unmasked. That just makes him more dangerous.

The President, Jeff Martini the VP & Kitty's husband, and their entourages board Rail Force One & Two to head down to NASA Base in Florida to meet the Planetary Council and as usual there are 3 plots afoot to stop them getting there. Club 51, Invisible Commandos & the hybrids which Kitty calls the Crazy Eights. Just picture every train action movie, especially using the roof, and you've got a good idea of what's ahead, the only thing missing is the horse.

This book is complete but sets us up for the next one Camp Alien (Katherine "Kitty" Katt, #13) by Gini Koch with missing personnel and the mysterious arms dealer Drax.

I can't believe this is already book 12 in the series. It feels like just a short while ago that I read book 1 and got addicted.

And this book is another great addition. Kitty might have worked herself up from a clueless outsider to the rank of Ambassador, she's still the Kitty I fell in love with, always ready to kick butt and take names.

There's lots of action and intrigue in this book, and the stakes are once again high. I usually don't like these total doom scenarios, but the perfect mix of humor and suspense in these books makes that I don't mind the fact that's it's basically Kitty trying to save everything from total destruction. For this series it fits.

There were some shocking events in this book that left me reeling, I will confess. And although lots of things are resolved at the end of the book, some things are left open, making me worry about what might be next.

All in all I very much enjoyed this book, and I can't wait for the next one. Fans of this series will love this book, and if you haven't started on this series yet: Have you been listening to me at all? Go get Touched by an Alien right now!
