Lauren Wilder fell for the wrong man, trusted the wrong man, and she paid a very dear price for it. Now broken and wounded, she's retreated to the bosom of the Colter family and the unshakeable love and support they offer. But the man she once loved and trusted is not without his own power, and he'll use every bit of his money and resources to make sure he gets Lauren back, no matter whom he destroys doing it.
Liam and Noah were hired by Lauren's brother to watch over her. But with danger looming, they head to the Colorado mountains—where Lauren has found temporary sanctuary. In her wounded eyes, Liam and Noah see the woman she once was—and could be again. They’re determined to show her everything a man can be—someone who will love her, cherish her, satisfy her, and when the time comes, put their very lives on the line for her.
Maya Banks is the #1 New York Times, #1 USA Today and international bestselling author of over 50 novels. A wife and mother of three, she lives in Texas.
The Colters’ series comes to a close with Lauren’s story, the sister of Max who’s married to Callie (Colters’ Daughter). Lauren was in an abusive relationship with a very dangerous man, Joel Knight, who runs a prostitution ring with some very high profile clients. Lauren was able to escape and Max hired two men, Liam and Noah, to watch out for her. Lauren moved to be closer to Max and the Colter family and she’s trying to rebuild her life one day at a time. Before she left Joel, she downloaded all his business information to give her some sense of security should she need to use it as leverage for him to leave her alone. Now, it’s uncovered that murders have been hidden and Lauren’s information is the key to bringing Joel down once and for all. Also add in Liam and Noah, two best friends who haven’t been able to get Lauren out of their thoughts since she came into their lives. They travel from New York to Colorado to see her again and to see if she’s open to a different type of relationship, one that involves all three of them.
Unfortunately, this story didn’t work for me from the start. I just never bought in that these two men who’ve never shared a woman before, never even contemplated being in a relationship together with one woman, would all the sudden be a-okay with sharing Lauren. At least Lauren has reservations about how all this will work between them, but the men were convinced that everything would be perfectly fine. I didn’t buy it. I also didn’t find Lauren to be a heroine I was eager to get to know more about. She’s constantly thinking about how amazing it would be to be loved and cherished by two men and how she’d love to be a part of the Colter family. This is repeated many, many times throughout the book and got old fast.
The dialogue from all the characters comes across at times as over the top sappy and way too sugary-sweet for this reader’s taste. I think that’s where Banks and I have gone wrong, especially recently with her erotic books. They all are starting to read very similar to me and the sappiness, I have no other way to describe it, is just too much. Another theme that seems to be present quite a bit is the heroine being sexually assaulted, either on page or off, but happening during the time frame of the story. It happens again here and I just didn’t see the need for it within the storyline. I simply just don’t care to read about a heroine being assaulted during the story and it’s very rare that this works for me in any book. It didn’t work here, but that could just be because I had pretty much already checked out of the book by the time this scene rolled around.
There is a short novella at the end that wraps up the entire series. Again, it’s full of love, hope, rainbows and sunshine, and fans of the entire series will no doubt enjoy it. However, I’m left feeling disappointed because while I was a big fan of book #1 (Colters’ Woman), I just lost more and more interest with each new book/novella as the series progressed. This will probably be the book that makes me break up with Banks and her erotic/romance stories. I’m tired of reading not only the same type of dialogue but also the books tend to have the same overall feeling that doesn’t make them stand out.
Colters' Gift is the completion of the Colters' Legacy series and, well... it's time. The books have become weaker as the series progressed. Here the insta-love was so instant that it made my head spin. There was zero explanation of why these characters cared about one another as they supposedly did. But all of a sudden there are declarations of love, talk of forever and future children. I tried to go with it as much as possible but the fanatical devotion (and possessiveness) Liam and Noah had for Lauren was hard to take at times.
Additionally, nothing felt new here. Our leading lady has a dark past or is emotionally traumatized in some way, all seems to be made better by the men she instantly loves (and they worship the ground she walks on), evil from the past must be dealt with, and then hello happily ever after. Somehow this really worked for me in Colters' Woman, the first book. The story of Holly, Adam, Ethan and Ryan was one that I enjoyed and the one that has remained my favorite. Since then, I'm afraid the formula has worn thin.
On the plus side, it was fun to revisit with all the characters from the past because they were in full abundance here. Holly and the dads, Seth, Lily and all the others were all accounted for.
The storyline was too repetitive and slow. I didn't realize I skipped a book. I'm not sure I will go back since it seems like the previous book to this one is like an epilogue of the previous books.
Colter's Gift is a standalone and you don't need to read the prior books. This one is a MMF.
I was also disappointed in the lack of steam. For a smutty read, I wouldn't think it would have only two steamy scenes!
Maya Banks books are always hit or miss with me, but I'm glad I finished the series. It's one of the first series smutty books I read.
I've really enjoyed the Colters' series and I am sad to see them go, but I understand why Banks must move on. I enjoyed being able to revisit with all the characters, and I just love that they are such a loving and accepting family with their new additions of Lauren, Noah, and Liam. This story was definitely heartwarming, and a very nice closing to the series.
First, let me start off by saying that Colters’ Woman is one of my favorite books. I have read that book countless times. I fell head over heels in love with Adam, Ethan, Ryan and Holly. I have enjoyed reading about the Colters’ in this series. Colters’ Gift is the last book in the Colters’ Legacy Series. I was looking forward to this book, and I am sad to say that it did not live up to my expectations as the series ending book.
Lauren Wilder is a Colter of the heart. Her bother Max is married to Callie Colter. We first met Lauren in Max and Callie’s book Colters’ Daughter. Lauren found herself in an abusive relationship, and her brother sent Liam and Noah to protect her and find out who hurt her, since Lauren would not tell Max what happened to her.
When Colter’s Gift opens Lauren is settling into the Colters’ small town of Clyde, Colorado. Lauren is making a new life for herself working at the local diner and moving into a small apartment in town. Lauren’s finally peaceful life is changed when Liam and Noah show up in Clyde wanting answers to why Lauren lied to them about who hurt her.
Noah and Liam want nothing more than to protect Lauren from the monster who hurt her for so long. Only problem is, Lauren lied, and Noah and Liam have gotten nowhere in their search for the man responsible. Once they find Lauren in Clyde, they realize that they want to protect Lauren forever. Sharing a woman was not something Liam and Noah ever thought about doing, but once they realize they both have feelings for Lauren, they set out to make her theirs.
I had a really hard time getting into this book. I started and stopped several times. I felt like the main plot line was from books I had already read. I never got emotionally attached to the main characters. There was not much story to build up the relationship between Lauren, Liam and Noah. I found myself wanting to know what was going on with the characters from the previous books that I fell in love with. I really wanted to love this book, but sadly I did not.
I am sad to see the Colters’ go, but I did enjoy the earlier books in this series, and I am sure I will continue to read Colters’ Woman over and over.
Lauren Wilder has been basically hiding out in the Colorado Mountains. Her brother Max is married to Callie Colter and once you are involved in any family way with the Colters, you become family. Lauren had it bad when she was in New York. Her boyfriend was a cruel and sadistic SOB who was also a glorified pimp who ran a prostitution ring. Lauren was often on the wrong side of Joel Knight's fist and the last time she barely got away alive.
Two investigators were hired by her very wealthy brother to keep a close eye on his precious sister, but Lauren wasn't altogether honest with them, so they make the trip to Colorado to question Lauren about the vermin that did her harm in New York. Only problem is, Liam and Noah have become emotionally attached to Lauren and neither man wants to lose her to the other. The only way they see them all being happy is if the three of them become involved, much like the Colter family's relationships. All Lauren wants is to be loved, but after the horror of her last relationship she wonders if she's even worthy of love. When Liam and Noah tell her that their needs and desires for her are strong, she must take a leap of faith and pray that all will be like she has dreamed.
Now not only do Liam and Noah have to protect Lauren, but the entire Colter clan steps up to the plate to keep one of their own from harm. Joel Knight doesn't like to give up what he owns and apparently Lauren is one of his possessions and he will stop at nothing until he has her within his grasp once again.
I am so happy to be back in the fold with the Colter family. Even though Lauren, Liam and Noah are not blood relations, the relationship to the Colters is a strong one. Maya Banks has done a wonderful job coming full circle with this fabulous series. I have loved each and every moment of it. Colters' Gift is new and fresh with suspense and danger in the mix with the romance and family adoration. I really enjoyed this story and I know other readers will as well.
I seem to be hating on my beloved book series because once again, I was not “wowed” by a book that I had such high hopes for.
COLTERS’ GIFT was good, don’t get me wrong, but there was nothing new to it. It felt like all the rest of the books, but with three new characters. I love them though, just not in the 5 star way.
Anyway, Lauren finally gets her story and I must say, she took a lot of abuse. Although Banks skimped the big parts, it reminded me of P.J. from SHADES OF GRAY. Lauren had to overcome both physical and mental abuse, but luckily she had such a great family to recover with.
Noah and Liam are back protecting Lauren after discovering she wasn’t exactly truthful with them about the man who beat her up. Now that they’ve gotten another chance to be near her, they aren’t letting her go without exploring their feelings.
The Colter family gathers around each other as they face their last challenge. Together they heal, celebrate and live forever.
Now that I have finished the series, I have to write something about it... Ok I got all the books for free, but I don't understand how someone would pay for these books? These are so childish! If it's not for excessive and needless adult content you could read to a child! Three men fall in love with one woman, they marry her, adore her, and practically breath her, then they have three sons and a daughter, 33 years later their three sons fall in love with one woman and they marry her, and cherish her, their daughter's husbands sister again has two men who fall for her and who would do anything for her, like leave their jobs and be jobless..
Not to mention, in these books women do not feel contractions until the baby is crowning!! That's just pathetic! Pathetic!!!!! And they joke and laugh right during labor! Like the moment of the delivery...
I don't really know what the purpose of the books are!!
Colters’ Woman was the first Maya Banks books I read. I instantly fell in love with Adam, Ethan, and Ryan. I was so happy when Maya decided to expand the world of Clyde, Colorado and give us Colters’ Lady, Colters’ Daughter and Colters’ Promise. It was bittersweet to read Colters’ Gift and have to close the door on all these characters who feel like family.
As the story opens we see Lauren, months after the terrible ordeal with her ex, finally settling into the small Colorado mountain town. She has a job and a new place to live and has slowly regained her independence.
Trying to move on and leave her painful past behind, Lauren gets an unexpected visit from tall, dark and tattooed, Liam Prescott and Noah Sullivan. Liam and Noah have been on a wild goose chase for months and came to Clyde for answers and to claim the woman they both love. What has Lauren been keeping from them? Does she return their feelings as well?
Lauren can’t believe her luck when not one but two men want to claim her. But can the relationship really work with two headstrong alpha males? As they explore the possibility of a relationship, the trio’s world is turned upside down when Lauren’s past literally comes crashing down on them. Can Liam and Noah save the woman they love from being thrust back into the previous hell she barely survived before?
It is no secret that Maya Banks is one of my very favorite authors. I absolutely love her character-driven stories and this story is no different. It was wonderful to see all the Colters again. It’s hard to believe that only a few years separate the books but many years have aged all those characters we love. There are a few adult themes addressed in the book that may be uncomfortable for some readers consisting of a violent and somewhat sadistic nature.
At the end of the book we are treated with a novella, Colters’ Legacy, that concludes the series. We find out what happens with Lily’s pregnancy; Lauren, Liam and Noah’s future; and a final scene with Adam, Ethan, Ryan and Holly that had me balling my eyes out. I will miss all of these beloved characters so very much.
I think that’s what makes a great author. Someone who makes us laugh, cry, and give us unforgettable characters that change our outlook. Maya writes about strong, tough men who love, respect and takes care of the women in their lives. Although fictitious, I often wonder if men like these truly exist. Thank you, Maya for helping us to dream and for sharing this beautiful story that is The Colters.
***I received an ebook copy from the publisher via Net Galley in exchange for an honest review. All conclusions reached are my own***
I have this feeling that the author wanted to bury this series once and for all. The kind of love/hate an author may have toward a series when the author wants to end it but the fans keep begging for more but the author is ready to move on to some other stories and characters. It is sad in a way because the series did not end the way I wanted it to end. It was rushed or something was missing. But I will get to that.
First, the book is split in two parts: Lauren’s story and then the Colter’s epilogue.
Maya Banks privileges the plot in every of her stories. She portrays her heroines at first as victims of big bad villain and make them evolve into deserved spoiled women surrendered by devoted males. The plots are generally about mobs or pimps, murders or rapes.
Colter’s Gift is no exception.
I am not sure why the choice of the title. The heroine, Lauren, was no gift in my opinion, nor the heroes. If gift, it was more the grand-baby that is born at the epilogue but since it is in a different novella/story, I am not sure what the gift refers to.
My main issue with this story was equality. It was Lauren and Liam, Lauren and Liam, Lauren and Liam … and Noah.
(...)
Again, another sweet kinda mainstream menage romance. I still like few things though like Holly, the very first heroine of this series who was 35 years older, the first menage heroine in Colters’s woman that I feel for. Holly became with time a mama bear, a matriarch that everyone listened and indulged. It was fun because I do not remind her that way at all. She was a little mouse, scared of her shadow. But that is how Maya Banks likes to make her heroine evolve, no big surprise.

Sadly. Maya Banks failed to give me the happy ending I wished to find in this last story. As a reader and a fan of this series, I would have hoped to find an open door with the kids, the grand-children, that would continue the “unconventional” way to fall in love in a ménage relationship.
Colters’ Gift is the fifth and final book in the Colters’ Legacy series. I discovered the series shortly after the first book, Colters’ Woman, was released and fell in love. I think it may have been my first menage book and I have been reading them ever since. In my opinion, Maya Banks writes some of the best menages. Her men are so loving and so determined to take care of the woman they love.
Colters’ Gift is no exception. Liam and Noah have been friends since childhood and business partners for a number of years. However, they have never been partners in a relationship. That is where this book differs from the previous ones in the series involving menages. In the earlier books, the men’s families have a history of menage relationships. Liam and Noah have no idea how to handle a situation in which they both want the same woman.
Lauren has lived surrounded by the Colters and is accepting and (she admits it) a little jealous of the relationships her female friends have. She wonders what it would be like to have three men who were focused on loving her and pleasuring her. She actually has an easier time with the idea of a menage relationship with Liam and Noah than they do.
The book is not just a romance however. Lauren’s previous lover was an abusive monster as well as a criminal. She escaped him and he is determined to get her back so he can show her that he is the one in charge. She will not leave him unless he say so and that will only be when she is dead.
Liam, Noah, and Lauren get their happily ever after. It is a romance after all, but they have many problems to overcome before they can be together. As an extra treat, Ms. Banks has included an additional story titled Colters’ Legacy which is the epilogue to this book. It really brings a solid conclusion to the entire series.
I can’t imagine reading this book as a stand alone title. The characters from the earlier books play a major part and past relationships are not explained. They don’t need to be because the books all flow together which is really amazing because there are thirty plus years between the first book and the subsequent ones in the series.
Regardless, it is not hardship to have to read the earlier books first. You will love the Colters and, like Lauren, be a little bit jealous of their loving relationships.
Well thank goodness this series is finally over! See it started out great! I loved Holly and the dads story, it was by far my favorite book in this series. Lily's book was okay, as was Callie's. This book, however, gave me a damn toothache with its sweetness! Okay we get you all are family, you protect each other, you love each other, you have each others' backs! Must you repeat the same damn thing throughout the book, it got so tiring! Ughhhhh!!!
Many readers complained about the graphic violence towards Lauren but I don't agree, I mean she got slapped around but the rest of the violence was just implied not described so that was a good thing, although with nine big ass alpha men supposedly protecting her, you'd think she wouldn't have been kidnapped in the first place.
Lauren's character was super weak, her self pity was enough to want to make you drown yourself. Noah, Liam and the rest of the Colters spend the whole book trying to coax her out of that 'woe is me' attitude, she's just too damn depressing. Actually most of the book is.
Ms. Banks has been seriously slipping, not sure if she needs a break but she needs to go back and write books like her Sweet series, because lately her books just aren't cutting it.
Lauren Wilder was abused by the man she was previously involved in & has moved to Colorado after her brother, Max rescued her from the abusive relationship.
Liam & Noah were hired by Max to watch over Lauren & have been trying to track down the man responsible for hurting her, but are having a difficult time because Lauren wasn't honest about who the man is. They catch a break when they find one of his "girls" and head to Colorado for more information from Lauren. They've also decided after hearing about the Colters that they want that kind of relationship with Lauren.
IMO these books from Ms. Banks are becoming somewhat formulaic. There's not a lot of new content. Girl meets boy + boy. Girl + boy + boy become lovers. Girl gets into some kind of scrape, boys help rescue girl. HEA, the end.
I’ve read all of the Colters’ Legacy books by Maya Banks. Today, I finished Colters’ Gift. It was fabulous! Ms. Banks drew me in with her excellent character development. I was right there with Noah, Liam, and Lauren. The plot has all the elements, danger, suspense, murder, and love. The setting was superbly crafted. Clyde, Colorado, sounds like a marvelous place to live. And there was no shortage of steamy hotness. I’m sad it’s the end of the series. Holly, Adam, Nathan, and Ryan are great characters I will miss! Five Stars!
(Sep) So, here we are, finally, the end of the Colter series. Colter's Woman was one of my first (or maybe my first?) permanent menage book. The story of 3 brothers who fell in love with one woman was so not-to-be-beleived, but Maya Banks writs so earnestly, you want to beleive families like this exist out in the open (and away from Utah) and can have a lovely HEA. The series continues as the 3 Colter sons follow in their family's footsteps and also marry a single woman to share among the 3 of them. Daughter Callie marries a single man, Max, in her book, but she also becomes his collared submissive. And now we have Max's sister, Lauren,
Lauren ran away from an abusive relationship with a very bad man. She's taken refuge in Colterville (or whatever is the name of the town!)and is working, living on her own, and pretty much adopted by the Colter clan. Liam and Noah were hired by Max to help get his sister away from Joel (bad man) and protect her. Fear led Lauren to lie to Noah and Liam about Joel, so for 2 (!) years they've been on a wild goose chase, trying to find this guy. They find out about him, and go to see Lauren. Both of them fell for Lauren when they met her, but they never made any moves. All bets are off now that they are back with her and once she learns that Joel is still up to his nasty business (drugs, prostitution rings, murder), she decides she has to stop him. Meanwhile, Liam and Noah confess to her they both have feelings for her and would like her to consider a Colter-type relationship with them both. There is a bit more violence than we usually see in a MB book, but there is, of course, a HEA (along w/a lot of sex!). There is even a little mini epilogue included, which ends with Noan and Liam gainfully employed and married (they never say which one she legally marries) to Lauren..and fade to black.
One thing...MB has been writing her male main characters more and more emotive over the past several years. Hey, it's fine for a guy to be in touch with his feelings and to even have one or two heartfelt speeches, but here, as in her past several KGI books, the guys emote all over the place to the point where it's nauseating!
In Colters' Gift, Lauren, a Colter by her brother's marriage, has resettled after escaping an abusive relationship. She loves her new family and the town of Clyde, Colorado. Her plan to forget her past and move on is upset when Liam and Prescott show up at her door.
The two men had been hired by Lauren's brother to protect her before she moved to Clyde. They've been unsuccessfully hunting the man who hurt Lauren and they need her to fill them in on the facts. And, they both have a thing for Lauren. They make plans to claim her together, knowing that, having been around the Colters, Lauren is likely accepting of such a relationship.
It turns out they are right. Lauren is secretly jealous of the Colter women who enjoy loving relationships with more than one husband. But she is amazed that these two alpha males would want her after what she has done in her past.
While Lauren, Liam and Noah explore their relationship, they must also deal with Lauren's past. It all comes to a head when all three are put in danger's path and they and the Colter family must work to put all to rights.
Having read Colters' Woman a few years ago, I was familiar with the type of story this would be. Without the benefit of having read other books in the series, I still enjoyed Colters' Gift, but would recommend reading the books in order of the series if you are interested in the Colters' story. I like a little suspense or mystery or something else with my romance and found just that in the book. Good story, sweet romance. A little mushy in a few places, but I knew what I was getting into when I decided to read this one. If you like sweet menage romances, I'm certain you will like Colters' Gift also!
I won this book in a contest. Colters' Gift is rather saccharine, and many parts were not very logical or realistic. Some of the crime procedural parts and medical parts would not have happened the way they were laid out, but it did make the story easier, I guess. -/ with he sex, segments of the story appeared too smooth and without issue to be believable. I really had to work to suspend my disbelief multiple times in this book.
The concept that two guys with no history of sharing would out of the blue decide that they will share one woman seemed very far fetched to me. And, I think it was author Lauren Dane who once said, the idea of two guys having sex with one woman for the first time and having everything go smoothly is ludicrous, and I agree with her. She said there's going to be one guy accidentally touching the other guy's junk, or someone's going to have problems figuring out where to put their legs. These guys did not have any prior experience with threesome, and as far as we know, Lauren's never had anal sex. But they easily and without any problems had double penetration instantaneously? And with no anal prep for her? Not at all believable.
With the book and then the bonus novella at the end, Colters' Legacy, everything is wrapped up happily and completely in a big, shiny, red bow. The series did not end with a bang, with rather with a smooth taper down. I give this book 2-1/2 stars.
The Colters’ series comes to a close with Lauren’s story, the sister of Max Wilder who's involved with the Coulter's daughter. Lauren was in an abusive relationship who escapes and then is guarded by Liam and Noah. There is no back story until TA DA they actually really liked her. Lauren has since moved to live with Max her brother and his wife who are helping her out of her shell and surrounding her with a family she didn't have. Now fast forward and Noah and Liam are ready to come for Lauren when we find out she has lied about Joel's identity and they want nothing more to do then protect her.....spoiler Max hasn't paid them for watching Lauren at all and they have fallen for her FAST!!!
Liam is 100 percent behind sharing, and Noah has yet to catch up. They travel from New York to Colorado to see her again and to see if she’s open to a different type of relationship, one that involves all three of them.
The story works it just isn't the best, the Nauti series is much more emotional and you can understand the relationships, I just couldn't get behind this especially how it was like BAM, I'm ready to move forward...Bam, they are ready to upheave their life but without much of a discussion, like what are they really going to do in this new place if this all works out.....I've read better by Maya but it's a fast read.
Oh, insta-love, how I loathe you. It's very hard to do insta-love well (it can be done!), but usually it just pushes me right out of the story. Granted, they only said it was attraction at first, but the depth of their desire to protect her was over the top, and her ease at accepting them was eye-brow raising considering her history. Also, the gentle, sweet, kind, "badass" gentlemen just annoyed me to no end. They were just so idealized "perfect" and their constant perfect tenderness made my skin crawl. And the women were the same personality type too.
Personally taste aside, the writing style was flowing, easy and light to read, and the chapters were short and catchy, but the repetition grew increasingly distracting (telling Lauren she was part of the family now, how they protect their own, referring to the two matriarchs as authority figures, how badass the two lovers were, etc.), which removed me another kilometer of twenty from my depth dive into the story's world. Regardless of all this I'd still try another book by Banks. Her ideas are fabulous!
The novella at the end of the book is the only thing that kept this from being a one star book. Too much of the focus of the book is on Lauren's situation with her ex, Joel Knight. I like a suspenseful book where the heroine has some peril before the HEA, but the violence in this book towards Lauren went to a level that was disturbing. It's rare I have to skim-read pages, but I did in this book because it was just too hard to read. The HEA is hard to swallow because I kept thinking how can she have an HEA without years of therapy first. Personally, I wish the book had focused more on the romance of Lauren, Liam, and Noah with her trying to overcome what had already happened to her versus the storyline as it is. The romance is really back burner in the book and was hard to get invested in.
As for the rest of the Colter family, it was great catching up with them. In fact, if you skip Lauren's part of the book and novella, it's a great read.
I win a signed paperback of this book and I couldn't be more thankful. :)
I pretty much enjoyed Colters' Legacy series. Even though the idea of brothers sharing a woman is a bit odd and scary, but Maya Banks nailed it. I loved Holly's, Lilly's and Callie's story.
But Lauren's, I don't think this one's my favorite. Sure the storyline's typical Maya Banks—which is no problem at all because I love it just the way it is, abundant with alpha-male and coated with heavy angst. But, I think Maya Banks went a wee bit too far with the description of Lauren's abuse.
I read the uncorrected proofs that never before published, so I don't know how this book turned out in reality. I just hope that the editor cuts some paragraphs that quite disturbing.
The rest, I think it went just fine. I'm so happy that I stumbled in Colters. Great series with great ending. :)))
I love this series and I'm very sad to see it end. The first Maya Banks book I read was Colter's Woman and I couldn't get enough of her books. I feel that this is a good ending and I loved the characters. Lauren Wilder is Max's Wilder's sister she was severely abused by her boyfriend and Max hired Liam and Noah to protect her and find the man that hurt her. When question about the boyfriend she lies about his identity to protect Max and the two men she has come to care about. When Liam and Noah find out the mans true identity they come to confront Lauren and that's when the sparks start to fly and the book really began took off for me. I highly recommend this series and I suggest you read them in order to truly enjoy the books. Thank you Maya Banks for giving me hours of truly enjoyable reading.
Always nice to see what's going on in the lives of the Colters. That's one of the reasons for the 4 stars instead of the 3 the story would have gotten. The other is because I really like Lauren and was glad to see how strong she turned out to be, especially after all she had been through.
The reason the story itself only merited 3 stars is because the romance part with the multiple partners was too much like the ones the preceded it. I kept thinking well maybe the guys will be secretly in love with one another and that would change the status quo just a little bit, to no avail because that wasn't anywhere close to be the case.
Still, that being said Maya Banks writes endearing and heartfelt characters, so her books are always worth reading.
This was an ok book... The plot was decent but not developed enough - back burner .... The menage between the main characters was ridiculous and unbelievable... Who, in their right mind, would be ok to share their lover and live permanently as a threesome?! Not caring what their families think, what everyone else thinks, which one of the two guys impregnated the woman, etc... Highly unrealistic and annoying!
The sex was not very hot. Mostly it was awkward (both for them and for the reader)... Overall - meh!
Love all Maya Banks books on re-read all the ones I have and still can't get enough of them I was so happy that she got her men she went through hell and found happiness in the end I am so glad that they stuck by her through everything the colters helped her heal and move on she gets a job a apartment and thought the pass was in the pass but nope but these two sexy alpha are there for her the two alphas have feelings for her and she has feelings for them but she is still hiding something from everyone to protect them but doesn't realize by doing it she isn't protecting anyone
I am a Maya Banks fan, but this book is just not up to her usual writing. In a word, boring. I enjoyed Colters' Woman, but this, not so much. Lauren has zero backbone. I see no reason why Noah, and Liam would lover her so much. I was surprised she could shower herself, she was so helpless, and stupid. I found myself reading faster just to finish the book. I believe if we could hear Lauren speak, it would sound very whiny.
I enjoyed this erotic romance with its tragic premise but it could have had more action. I did like the whole sense of family and the heroes dedication was endearing. However, there were times when it seemed like everything was fitting together too smoothly. Liam and Noah were hired as Lauren's bodyguards and they were all attracted to each other.
