Growing up is an awkward waltz. Between discovering sexuality, pleasing a strict parent, and fitting in with peers, the task of starting a relationship can seem impossible not to trip over. Add the uncertainty of whether or not you should date someone and you're in for a roller coaster of blossoming neuroses.
The Blue Book is the first four chapters of an ongoing love story about how hard, and amusing, it can be to find love in unexpected places.
This is my first attempt at reviewing a webcomic. I never actually read the comic on the web and decided to only start when the paperback copies arrived. I bought vol 1-3 at one go and from the flip through I can see there are some changes to the style throughout the years. One distinct difference is that vol 1 is not in full color. I thought I wouldn't like it as much, but boy I was wrong. I really dig the 'monochrome'? I know don't what they called it, but is this shade of blueish/greenish color that looks very pleasant to the eyes.
This story revolves around Milo and Liam in high school. There isn't much background to the story, so at the beginning, it feels a little awkward and my head was full of questions. However, it gets better from Chapter 2 onwards. Milo is instantly likable and I love his curly hair. This is a visual source, so I should comment on aesthetics appearance, right? On the other hand, Liam had a more prickly attitude and he had some bad habits. Ahem. I have so many questions about Liam, which I hope will be answered in the following books. As for the romance front, Milo acted fast and there are plenty of smooches, which I fully appreciate.
This has been on my to-read list for at least a year now and I finally read the first volume! It's an adorable little slice-of-life webcomic that's available in print. It follows the characters as they work through life, figuring out sexuality, romance, and all the other things that come with growing up, finding out who you are, and navigating through the social world.
Chapters 1-5 in the webcomic. I’m excited for the rest of the series as this is just the build up essentially. I do however think the start of Milo and Liam’s relationship was messy and unhealthy so I hope their communication becomes even better so I can be able to root for them the rest of the series.
Little rambles I wrote while reading:
- Liam’s last name is Schwartz? Sir are u Jewish- - I dig the main characters (Milo apparently) hair - Liam autistic, I already know this and I am 6 pages in - I would include content warning but it’s impossible with the website - LIAM DOESNT CELEBRATE HALLOWEEN AND SAID OY VEY ARE U JEWISH SIR - “Yeah I liked it obviously” but he’s spent the whole book complaining about the kiss and Milo?? Unhealthy mate - THE LITTLE SHOP INTERMISSION COMIC IS SO WHOLESOME - Okay they’re getting better at communication whew
if i were told a kid in junior high wrote this i would 100% believe it.
· ┈┈┈┈┈┈ · ꕥ · ┈┈┈┈┈┈ · my 2022 goal: each month i select 1 book from my bookshelves that has been neglected for years and finally read the damn thing. this was my pick for april!
rep; milo (mc) is gay. liam (mc) is bisexual. noel (sc) is black. kat (sc) and penny (sc) are queer (unlabeled) and dating.
liam is a little annoying, he seems to always take issue with something. him punching milo after milo kisses him really bothered me. there’s a bit of emphasis put on sex/kissing in relationships, like it’s inherent or universally important. and it bugs me that noel got mad at liam for stepping in when her boyfriend was being pretty aggressive to her.
The first thing that jumped out at me about this book is the art and how fantastic it is. I was aware this started as a web comic, so I was expecting the artwork to be good but not great. I'm happy I was so wrong.
The story itself is fairly straight forward, it's basically a love story between two high school kids, but the characters are written in a very endearing way. I really like them both in different ways and can relate to what they're going through.
I've already ordered the second and third books, so I'm looking forward to the rest of their adventures.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for this ARC in exchange for my honest review!
This was a super cute story and I'm interested to see where it goes. However, where it starts in the beginning it felt like we were dropped in something established already and I felt like I was missing something. I also noticed it looked like the art changed randomly a few times? But other than that the story was very cute. I can't wait to see more of these 2 and how long distance works for them!
Loved this. I read the entire book on the GO train home from TCAF, and ended up asking a friend to pick the rest of the series up for me the next day. Can't wait to read it.
I just got this in the mail today and read the whole thing as soon as I opened the package! Tripping Over You is a webcomic I've been following for a while about two boys in an English school falling in love and dealing with life stuff. It's so adorable and sweet: I'm filled with warm fuzzies every time I read it. This book is the collection of the first four chapters along with a new prologue and some bonus art. The first chapter looks a little odd now after seeing their new style for such a long time, but the art quickly improves. This is a lovely, lovely series and I highly recommend it.
There's no other way to describe this book, but 'cute'. And cute is not a bad thing. There are some very genuine, heartfelt moments in here. As this is the beginning of what could be a long-range story there are seeds sown with supporting characters that could prove to be very interesting, especially between one of the main characters and his father. Looking forward to the second book (although it could be a long wait).
Tripping over you, like many comics is the story of growing up, and falling in love, this one just happens to be about 2 boys, adorable and heartfelt throughout. Really looking forward to seeing more from this duo.
