Hilda lives a simple life; busy doing her duties around the medieval village she calls home, she can barely think of another way to live. When Viking raiders arrive to loot and pillage her settlement, however, everything changes. Hilda thinks quickly, and offers herself as a bride to the Viking leader; to follow his every whim and desire, if he'll only end the destruction.
What she finds is a man more sensitive and war-wearied than she ever expected, and her soon-to-be Viking husband finds a confident and fearless wife; a perfect fit for the mother of his child!
I have a confession to make, and not a pretty one.
About 4 years ago I joined Amazon's digital services and I started reading digital books. At first I was reluctant, in some ways I still am (nothing can beat having a physical copy of a good book), but at first I was so reluctant that I didn't buy books. I downloaded the freebies.
And at first I was so curious and excited at the prospect of free books that I just clicked and clicked without paying attention to the material. I am ashamed to admit it, as I am a little ashamed at some of the materials that roam in my library from those dark first days.
This is one of those freebies. Supposedly a Viking erotica. Should be, at least a little, interesting.
But no. The sex is not hot, the main character- brave Hilda- is boring at best and the guy is just annoying. He didn't feel like a warrior- no energy, no danger, no nothing.
If that is not enough, and it's not, this was full of historical inaccuracies, I can't even begin to list.
At this point I have to say a book of knock-knock jokes would have been better.
Darn it, I really wanted to like this one better. Viking erotica??? Should be my thing. But alas, it fell short.
I don't have ridiculously high expectations for short story erotica. I really don't. I just require that it be well written and semi-researched. For goodness sakes, this book is a whole 36 pages long. Is it that difficult to find out that the Vikings did not call themselves "vikings", nor did they speak "viking", and they did not say "I want to make sure Mama is okay." Ugh.
The story is of Hilda and Brynjulf. I am quite certain that finding authentic names was the extent of the research put into this story. Anyways, Hilda is a country maiden (?) and her village is getting pillaged by THE vikings. So what does quick thinking Hilda do? Yep, ask the big bad viking if his leader is single. Of course he isn't. And of course he looks like a clean shaven Abercombie and Fitch model.
They get married (despite the circumstances, it's a joyous affair! Her Mother packed her a heritage trunk!) and boink about 7 different times. Feeling like stories are too bogged down by dialogue? Don't worry. There's pretty much none in this one. It's also told in first person, which is super annoying. Mainly because Hilda is super annoying.
Despite the fact that I pretty much hated the story, I'll give it two stars. Perhaps i'm feeling charitable tonight. I guess the sex was kinda hot. The cover is kinda cool. That's about all I've got for you folks!
This was a free kindle book. I am giving this book my honest opinion. This book was all about sex. No plot to the book. Nothing interested me into buying book two. I thought this book would be better but I guess I was wrong. The main characters met each other and started to have sex again, again and again. It was horrible, I felt like I was reading an erotic book or seeing some porno movie. Romance is about love, it is a sad fact that many authors mix in SEX with love. LOVE wasn't all about SEX. Authors NOW A DAYS, LOST what passed authors had. Communication.
I'm not usually a fan of historical romances but I really liked this one. However, I kind of felt like this was really modernized. Even the writing had very little history to it but maybe that's why I liked it. :)
Story was good and I really enjoyed that side of things. Felt a little rushed with the whole story but great otherwise. I decided not to carry on reading the series as I personally felt it was a little expensive and not really worth the time.
I think I would have LOVED this book and story if it were a FULL story. Well written and easy to follow and I did really feel the love and heartache in the book.
I am still glad I read it and Im sure other who enjoy short series book will enjoy this book to.
There was absolutely nothing worth reading in this book. No character development and really no story. This was not worth the space it used on my Kindle and the only reason I give it one star is because I have to give it something to rate it. I am not normally this harsh but, this was absolutely horrible. The writing was okay but, the author was a little lost on the time period because things did not make sense but, anyways I guess you win some and lose some.
I didn't like this book one bit. There was no story just sex, sex and more sex!!!! I read a lot of erotica books but come on, man. The same stuff over and over with her supposedly a submissive. Whatever!!! Don't read this drivel unless you just want to read about them having sex and her liking it. UgH!!!
Not usually something I'd pick up but I really did enjoy this one! The only thing I could say that I didn't really care for was the lack of a cohesive plot. The were parts that seemed to be cut off and she moved right along to the next scene. I will be continuing with part two shortly just to see if in fact it turns out any better than the first.
Overall, I really enjoyed this story. It was a quick, delightful read. There were some errors but it did not affect my ability to enjoy the plot. I will definitely recommend this to any friends who enjoy a good historical romance.
I liked this novelette. I usually don't read short stories but this story sounded interesting. I think it started strong I enjoyed the story about how Hilda started her life. I was kind of thrown off by more modern wordage in the story once she is with the viking.
