Ricky Cruz is a seventeen-year-old farm boy from eastern Washington. In the year 2250, his family leaves their successful farm to be part of the first wave of colonists to the planet Murna nearly 40LY away. His great grandmother asks him to keep a handwritten chronicle and to send her copies with every ship that returns to Earth. Problems start with the expedition before they even leave orbit. It soon becomes apparent that the problems are systematic sabotage which eventually leads to worse.
