In this book, President Thomas S. Monson shares personal experiences and gospel truths that lead to an understanding of life's purpose and how to achieve lasting happiness. As always, his thoughts are powerfully expressed in eloquent language and moving accounts that illustrate the ability of man, working with Deity, to overcome the trials of earthly life.
Thomas S. Monson served as the 16th President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (often called the "Mormon Church" or "LDS Church") from 2008 to his death in 2018. Before his time as President, he had served as a Counselor in the First Presidency of the Church since 1985. He was ordained an Apostle and called to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in 1963 at the unusually young age of 36.
Monson was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. After serving in the US Navy and earning a bachelor's degree from the University of Utah, he married Frances Johnson and they had three children. Monson worked in the local news publishing industry until church service became a full-time occupation.
A collection of talks and writings from the current President and Prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Thomas S. Monson (at the time of publication, he was an Apostle). Each chapter deals eloquently, yet simply, with a different aspect of "living the good life," with service and kindness and obedience to God's laws as a thread running through all of them. He speaks powerfully of leading children correctly, of taking care of the widows amongst us, of humble and quiet service to the needy and lonely, and many other aspects of living a Christlike (and satisfyingly joyful) life. In his own recognizably distinctive style, President Monson brings the principles to life with story after story. What I like most about these types of books is that, not being very original or creative in my own efforts to give service to others, I get many good ideas from their pages. This is just such a book.
This book is a quick read -- i read it on one Sunday. The book is a compilation of various talks given by President Monson, although most are over 30 years old. Some of the stories will probably sound familiar, especially for those who have read Monson's recent biography or other books. Nevertheless, I find President Monson such a compassionate individual I came away uplifted and inspired to be a better person. Many of his stories made me emotional, and I hope I can find more opportunities to serve as he has served -- by simply loving others.
President Monson is one of the great servants of the Lord in this dispensation. He is probably the best example of following the promptings of the Spirit that we have. However, that doesn't make him a great writer. He uses a lot of cliches, a lot passive voice, and his talks start to feel very repetative.
This book was amazing. He has so many wonderful stories that made me cry almost every chapter. Thanks to my bro for giving me this book to read. I feel like I know our new prophet so much better. I wish we could give 6 stars.
President Monson always tells such great stories and gives wonderful insights. This book is a compilation of talks that he had given man years ago. The way he speaks really appeals to me and gets my attention. Recommend reviewing and studying these talks.
Book taken from his former speeches. Very motivational. Shows his personality and his love for literature. He selects little snippets out of great poems and stories.
Cute little book with lots of little golden nuggets. packed full of great Scriptures and cute poems. Perfect for referencing during religous discussions.
A collection of stories from President Monson’s speeches, this was uplifting and heartwarming. I love all the literature sprinkled throughout, and his emotion for good stories, real and written, is inspiring. Though I usually find books like this rather dry, this was a really happy read.
I love how positive President Monson always was. These are great, short messages that make you want to do a little better. It’s a great, uplifting read.
As I prepare for October General Conference, I read once again, Live the Good Life by President Thomas S. Monson. The book is a collection of president Monson's talks. I miss him so much. The ability he had to communicate through stories and experiences was exceptional. He was truly a great man with a big heart. I so much wish that he was still with us. He truly knew how to live the good life and how we can live the good life as well.
