Within the covers of this volume you will find thoughts, stories, poems, and proverbs by authors as diverse as Spencer W. Kimball and Vince Lombardi. President Monson of the First Presidency has selected has favorite quotations and arranged them into eight sections. As he says in the preface, ''Over the years I have collected quotations . . . that have influenced me with their simple but eloquent messages. May these short but important messages give you as much pleasure as they have given me.''
Thomas S. Monson served as the 16th President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (often called the "Mormon Church" or "LDS Church") from 2008 to his death in 2018. Before his time as President, he had served as a Counselor in the First Presidency of the Church since 1985. He was ordained an Apostle and called to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in 1963 at the unusually young age of 36.
Monson was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. After serving in the US Navy and earning a bachelor's degree from the University of Utah, he married Frances Johnson and they had three children. Monson worked in the local news publishing industry until church service became a full-time occupation.
With over 900 quotes this book was chock full of what I love best--quotes! I love quotes because they express my beliefs in a few phrases or paragraphs. They're direct and meaningful. Some of these were President Monson's own quotes and words, and I appreciated these very much because I value his teachings. But mostly these were a collection of his favorite quotes and poems. Some of my favorites are in this book, so I have little paper markers sticking up from many pages so I won't forget where they are. I loved reading these quotes and pausing to ponder their meaning for me. I will use this book as a reference now for uplifting thoughts and talks I may give at church, etc. I love knowing that our prophet chose these quotes, so they have double meaning in my life.
I loved this book. It's so full of inspirational lines and stories. I was pleasantly surprised, however, at the fact that there were so many business quotes in here from Peter Drucker. There are of course a wealth of antidotes that I have heard Thomas S. Monson use many times. Overall, it's a happy little book with something uplifting for every occasion.
I keep this around for lessons, talks, cards, my journal, or just for a general pick-me-up. His collection is inspiring, informative and often hilarious.
I'm a quotation collector, and all of these are GREAT. Some are serious, some make you laugh. If you ever need just a different kind of read, or quotes for a talk or lesson, this is the book!
Great collection. It's a little old fashioned and I wish it had a wider range of topics, but I'll definitely be referring to it often. Many of these are just sweet because they remind me of President Monson.
