Levi is a werewolf. His boyfriend, and the love of his life, is a witch. After living together for three years, they decided to commit to each other and change Glyn into a werewolf. Levi hoped the pack would accept Glyn more readily as a wolf. Glyn hoped it would eliminate his erratic magic and erase the OCD it caused. One year later, they're still trying...
Levi can't understand why his bite won't change Glyn and he's running out of time to figure it out. His pack is being threatened by a larger one, he's facing dissension in the ranks of his own ruling council and Glyn's grandmother is poking her witchy nose into their relationship.
Under threat of a violent takeover, the council pushes another potential wolf at Levi, infuriating Glyn and adding weight to Levi's own doubts. Council machinations divide the two lovers, leaving both men questioning their lives, their love, and what they're willing to endure for each other.
Full moon is a time of power and change. It could be a disaster, or it could be the key to happily ever after. If they're strong enough to take a loss and make it a win.
Kate Lowell lives on the east coast of Canada, in an old farm house that has way more personality than it has any right to. During the winter, she spends her time dreading snow, cursing at snow, shoveling snow, and scheming ways to shove it down the kids' necks. During the summer, she prays not to have snow. :)
Kate likes to play in ALL the sandboxes. While her main genres are paranormal and contemporary suspense, she is also interested in science fiction, fantasy and--weirdly--romantic comedy. She's willing to pay large amounts of money to anyone who can come up with plot-bunny repellent, which she will first use on herself, then sell to LA Witt for an exorbitant price to recoup her costs.

Kate Lowell is a new author and with Bite Me Tender, she has drawn me in and has me totally invested in the two very delicious characters she has created in Glyn and Levi... and I just adored them, two men who so obviously love each other. The writing seemed effortless and flowed smoothly with the intensity building slowly. This is a story fraught with inner turmoil, conflict and tension, with an underlying thread of danger and element of mystery that runs throughout, a whole heap of craziness and some laugh out loud snarky banter and humour between our two MC’s that I LOVED!
Glyn is a witch, untrained and with no control over the gift he has inherited, he also has no confidence in himself or his ability. To function on a daily basis he needs order, which borders on OCD, desperately trying to hold onto the tentative grasp he has on his sanity. In his eyes the only way to complete his power as well as being with the man he loves is by Levi changing him to a werewolf, only problem is… it’s not working, and Levi is consumed with guilt over the scars that already cover Glyn’s body from their failed attempts.
Levi should really be Alpha, but he doesn’t fully trust himself and the wolf within and doubts his ability to lead the pack, so when Glyn and Levi returned from New York the decision was made that the pack would benefit from the democracy of a pack council and it is that very council, that now put their love and happiness at risk.
The pack need more male wolves, due to the threat of McCourt, a power hungry Alpha out for blood, encroaching on their territory and with Levi being strong and having previous successes… and unmarried, it seems he is the only choice… in the councils eyes! They also see Levi and Glyn as an infertile couple as Levi has so far been unable to complete the change in Glyn… the fact they love each other and have been together for the last four years is of no consequence to them… they need new blood and they have the ideal candidate… Connor!
Glyn is devastated, witches don’t share, bringing another into their relationship, even for the sake of the pack is more than his heart can bear… all of this compounding Glyn’s insecurities… feeling rejected with no place in the human, wolf or witch world, and I could feel his hurt and pain. The very same emotions mirrored in Levi, and I could also understand his conflict between his love for Glyn and the safety of the pack… he doesn’t want to lose Glyn and neither does his wolf but he is an honourable man, aware of his responsibilities.
I felt this novella was a chapter in the lives of Glyn and Levi, and what a chapter it was! …as I am left chomping at the bit for more… I want to know their past, how they came to be? How they met? …and the events that transpired to make them into the men we see now, I want to know about Glyn’s crazy family, mostly Gram! …and why he has no control over his gift? OMG …there were so many things touched on but not yet fully explained or developed!
And don’t get me started on what there is to come… I want to know about Glyn and his power, where Conner is going to fit in… as that gate was sure as hell left wide open! Oh… and Bryan, I really want to know about him too, mainly because I want to see him get a punch right on the end of his smarmy nose …he really pissed me off! The Pack Council, not completely convinced with them, firstly they rubbed me up the wrong way with their manipulation of Levi… and also when they needed a show of strength it was Levi they turned to!
I have to say, it’s not clear in the blurb that this is part of a series and had it been a standalone I would have been disappointed with all the unanswered questions, now I know we will be seeing a whole lot more of Glyn and Levi…. that makes me very happy!
There is a lot to like about this book, and plenty to get excited about for the series… Kate Lowell made me care about these characters, get emotional about them and desperate to know more, not only the two MC’s but also secondary characters, both in a good and bad way, and yes that includes Conner… who I have to say I actually felt sorry for by the end. I loved Gram, she brought the pages to life and produced a nice little twist. And… The boys, when not in the grips of conflict, were in the throes of passion which quite frankly had me squirming in my seat, especially Levi when he got all growly and Alpha… that man is HOT!
My first experience with Kate Lowell was for her "Love Has No Boundaries" contribution, Sign of Spring. I liked that story enough to give this one a try. And I really enjoyed it.
What I loved about this was the new 'offer' regarding werewolf tropes. As an Alpha (and a gay one), Levi was expected to make some new male wolves to strengthen the number of his pack. Female ones could make new male wolves too, but of course since Levi was a male, he was stronger and had higher possibility to succeed. I thought this plot was interesting
The problem was, Levi was in a relationship with Glyn (a male witch) -- and while Glyn truly wanted to become a werewolf, it never had been successful. And they've been trying for a year! So Levi's council was forcing him a male human for Levi to turn. I enjoyed reading Levi's turmoil -- his responsibility as Alpha versus his love (and monogamous relationship with Glyn). Because Glyn wouldn't share his lover! No siree.
I enjoyed that Levi and Glyn was an established couple. I felt entertained with Glyn's witch grandmother who in the end helped Levi and Glyn to achieve what they wanted. The grandmother was a really fun character!!
This wasn't a solid 4-stars though, due to a couple of reasons. One, while I loved established couple, I still missed how Levi and Glyn became together. I would love to read that prequel. Second, I wasn't too happy with the hint that .
All in all, I still count it as an enjoyable werewolf story. ALTHOUGH, I'm not sure if other readers can accept the whole idea of Levi being "forced" to find other mate for the sake of the clan. As for me, I would definitely check out other stories from Kate Lowell.
PS: No baby as endearment!! In Sign of Spring, Kate Lowell used "Birdie" as endearment. Here, she used "Fido". I'm happy!!
At more than 65% of this book, I couldn't push myself anymore to finish. I absolutely hated it! I hated the characters, and I hated the plot. But still I pushed through until I finished.
We have an established couple, a witch and a wolf, which seem to have their set of problems because both had been out of control before being a couple. We know this because the author told us this in the backstory though I would have loved if we had been shown instead of told.
*POSSIBLE SPOILERS*
I hated all about the tax, accounting and billing references I hated how many times the term dog and mongrel -terms used for werewolves- were used in this story. I hated the references to Rover, butt-snifing etc. The author might have tried for funny or playful, but this didn't come across when even the grandmother used it as a sign of disrespect or insult. I hated the pack politics and the pack dynamics perse. I hated that this book had infidelity as an issue to convert a wolf. If I would have known that it was part of the book, I would not have chosen it. I hated that Levy, the werewolf, considered Glyn, our witch, selfish, a Diva because he would not compromise in letting him f*ck Connor. How dare he... I hated that Glyn felt the need to justify how he felt as being a "witchy" thing since witches don't share. Dammit, if you're in a committed relationship you are not the one in the wrong and have no need to find excuses for not letting your partner f*ck another. To top it all, Levy "nobly" stated that they could share Connor IF that's what it took to make Glyn happy. Whaaat???
I could still count more ways how I hated this book and characters, but two things stand even more. One is that Glyn backed down and stated that in a couple of months it will be ok to bring Connor to their bed. This was stated before and after Glyn turned wolf and the other one is how the grandmother manipulated all of these events to take vengeance on McCourt, the man she hated.
Hmmm...I'm not sure. There is a lot I liked about this one. Glyn is a witch, but only a quarter, but that is enough or maybe too much and gives him 'issues'. We only see a few and others are hinted at, but he had major OCD and has a lot of excess energy he needs to work off. Levi is his packs alpha, but I'm guessing he instated a council and now they are wanting to force him to turn other humans into weres in order to increase their numbers . There is a baddie wolf trying to take over his pack and so his pack is putting him under a lot of pressure to do that. The problem is turning another human male, means not only biting him, no it means months and months of sex. Glyn's witch nature will not stand for his lover sleeping with another....conflict ensues. Glyn also has a crazy ass wonderful grandmother who I wish had played a bigger role.
Now, I had a few issues, I understood Levi feeling his obligation to his pack, but it all seemed a little too 'forced'. They can force him and vote, even as an alpha, yet none of the others have to do it too. Seriously ONE person is gonna make a difference? I would think everyone strong in the pack would need to turn someone, if its numbers they are worried about.. And on a side note
This is a great start to what looks to be an interesting series. When we meet Levi and Glyn, they are an exclusive couple. Glyn is a witch with power is he isn’t fully able to control. To give Glyn an edge over his control, among other things, Levi has been trying for the better part of a year to turn Glyn into a werewolf, though they have been unsuccessful.
Levi, who should be a total alpha, somewhat shuns that responsibility due to his past uncontrollable nature of his werewolf side. He belongs to a pack of wolves who have created and tried to live as a democratic society. Unfortunately, there is another, stronger pack of wolves looking to take over. The only way for them to become stronger and have a chance of winning is to create more wolves. The pack believes Levi needs to step up and make more, and they feel he is the best option out of them all due to his being one of the strongest of the few unmarried males in the pack. This puts a lot of strain on Levi and his relationship with Glyn. He doesn’t want to be with someone else in order to turn them, and Glyn doesnt want it either. I felt bad for Glyn and could understand his feelings so easily, yet it was hard not to feel for Levi as well. He was torn between not wanting to lose Glyn and needing to do what was best for the pack.
I often felt like I missed a lot of background to this story, but you are given enough information to figure things out along the way and that made sense in the end. The writing was smooth, and this was an easy read, even with the missing information. This was sexy and funny, but with action and mystery to make it a nicely rounded out story. I had so many questions about these guys and the things that happened leading up to this point. Questions about the magic and how they ended up together, etc. I’m really looking forward to seeing more of this story.
This was an interesting spin on shifters and I liked that a witch was also part of the pair. I would have really enjoyed learning more about them and how they came together. The pieces that we got of their past seemed like it would make a real interesting story. I would like to see a continuation of this world, but really don't want Connor to be put with Glyn and Levi, not because I don't like m/m/m story lines, I just don't want him with them. Love grandma, I can just imagine how much more havoc she could have created.
Levi is a werewolf and is madly in love with his boyfriend Glyn and after being together for so long they have been attempting to change Glyn into a wolf.... but Glyn is a witch and the change isn't taking. Levi doesn't know what to do, his pack is on his back about increasing numbers and a rival pack is making noises about taking over his territory but he can't betray his lover to make more wolves. Glyn wants nothing more than to become a wolf like his lover, it should help to settle his magic and the pack would accept him fully, but each month the bite doesn't take and the pack are trying to force his lover to change someone else. Can Glyn and Levi discover why Glyn isn't changing and would their love survive if Levi caved in to his packs demands.
This story is brilliant, it is a paranormal story that has disagreements, temptations, danger and realizations. Each month Levi and Glyn face disappointment when the wolf bite fails, they have been attempting for months to change witch Glyn but each time it fails. Now Levi's pack are pressuring him to increase their numbers and there is only one way to change a human into a wolf and it involves lots of sex, Levi can't do that to his lover but the pack are refusing to back down. Glyn's magic has always been unstable and with the difficulty he is having he turns to his grandmother for help, and discovers there is more each failure than he first realized.
Glyn and Levi are an established couple who love each other madly, but the packs insistence is beginning to drive them apart. There is no way that Glyn could accept his lover having sex with someone else but the pack don't care, putting Levi in an awkward position of having to choose between his pack and his lover. Both characters are brilliant, with Levi being torn over what to do and Glyn refusing to be walked on by the pack, it is a rocky time for both men but their passion for each other never lessens. When the discovery of why Glyn's change never works is discovered Levi feels guilty but Glyn takes it all in stride, it makes a very interesting storyline and has a great twist for the shifters.
I really enjoyed this story as it wasn't perfect mates and the changing of new wolves was pretty unique, both Glyn and Levi are hot characters and you can clearly see the struggle they both face as temptation is thrown in Levi's face. I was amazed at the feelings this story invoked, disappointment and anger being the main ones. It really makes you feel for Glyn as he is faced with the possibility of his lover not only changing another, but having months of sex with that person as well. The thing is, you also see it from Levi's point of view as well, especially when he is trying to convince his pack that it is wrong for them to expect him to set Glyn aside for months. This really is a great story.
I recommend this to those who love shifters with a different twist, witches in a snit, fantastic sex, brilliant characters and a great ending.
Levi has been trying to change Glyn into a wolf. It’s not going so well. He’s convinced his attempts are merely causing Glyn pain. To compound matters the rest of his pack wants him to turn someone else. Levi won’t. He loves Glyn desperately and knows the sex that is part of the turning process will utterly destroy the relationship the two men have. The pack isn’t just being fickle or homophobic. Another pack, a more vicious pack, is growing rapidly and threatening to overtake them. Something needs to give. When Levi’s hand is forced by his pack his relationship with Glyn blows up. Glyn has his grandmother to rely on. She’s a witch. A really gorgeous and eccentric witch. Glyn tries to use his magical abilities to see a way to help himself become a wolf and nothing really looks good. He’s also not at all sure of what his grandmother is up to. She’s definitely up to something. When both men feel everything is completely over Glyn manages to surprise Levi with a well timed rock to the head. The rest is vicious, bloody, and precisely what needs to happen.
This book had the grave misfortune to be what I read after two really amazing books. It’s not fair to dislike a book simply because it wasn’t another, and I feel that’s what happened here. Even using the word dislike is too strong. I didn’t feel much of anything for this book. It wasn’t at all bad. The magical concepts were interesting and there was a new take on how to become a wolf that added up to interesting world building. In terms of characterization there was a great deal of hinting and referencing the brutality to which Levi couldn’t allow himself to wallow in. Glyn made him better but we only see the better version. I would have liked to witness the brutality and been able to appreciate the metamorphosis. If you’re a huge fan of paranormal romances this book is right up your alley.
2.5 While Levi did not come across as an alpha to me, mainly because he was letting the pack dictate what he did, what made me dislike him was his attitude that his partner for years, supposedly his only, was being unreasonable for not allowing Levi to turn, I,e, have multiple bouts of sex, with Connor. "I'm not cheating on you when I do this". Sorry Levi, glyn doesn't agree to it so yes you are.
And gram? Way to make you grandson miserable in your search for revenge.
Ok the blurb was interesting but from what I understood reading some of the reviews, there will be Menage and cheat. If it's really like that I pass. No thanks.
Well, that was different. While other werewolf books usually use 'the mate bond' to ensure monogamy, this one tries to use lycanthropy as an excuse for infidelity.
A paranormal tale with a dangerous amount of magical appeal!
Levi is a progressive man. Although he's technically the alpha, his werewolf pack is governed by a council, the member's contributions towards pack finances are voluntary, and he owns a business that employs both humans and shifters alike. The path toward tolerance was not easy for Levi; his reputation as a fierce and bloody alpha stems from his deeply troubled past. He's constantly at war with his inner wolf, but the years have lent him both inner strength and emotional compassion. The strength is essential for effective leadership of the pack, while the latter is a rare finding indeed. He credits Glyn, his half-witch boyfriend, with his remarkable transformation, and wants nothing more than to turn Glyn into a wolf so that he can run at his side.
Glyn has always struggled to manage both his humanity and unstable magical abilities, but Levi's presence over the last four years has helped him find balance. A gift he is sure will only become stronger once his transformation is complete. Months of unsuccessful attempts to bond witch and wolf have left both men frustrated. The pack needs new members and, with Levi unable to turn Glyn, other Alphas have started to eye his territory and challenge his ability to lead.
BITE ME TENDER is a fast paced paranormal romance that is packed with dominant alphas, steamy sex, crazy coven members, and enough werewolves to inspire readers to howl at the moon! It's a well written tale with elements of aggression, danger, territorial romance, and a hint of BDSM in the boys' bedroom! While not containing a lot of emotional depth, this book is sure to entertain mature readers with its spirited characters and moments of humor. The perfect read to take on an entertaining journey of fantasy and romance
A curious combo of paranormal genres, Bite Me Tender is the story of a werewolf alpha and his partial-witchblooded boyfriend. In a turn from the standard, this group of wolves is ruled by a council rather than just the alpha, allowing for everyone with power to have a say in the directions the pack takes. Levi desperately wants to change his partner, Glyn, into a wolf, but despite a year’s worth of full moon bites, Glyn has yet to make the change. With a rival pack threatening the safety of Levi’s, the council decides that Levi needs to set aside Glyn for a few months and bite another human to strengthen the pack’s footing. Neither Levi nor Glyn wants this to happen. But what happens when the council Levi sets up decides they are going to overrule his wishes?
I enjoyed nearly every moment of this. Glyn’s psychotic grandmother, Levi and Glyn’s D/s tendencies, Glyn’s near OCD need for order to help contain his witch blood from taking over. My one issue is that there needed to be more background on the two leading men, because a bit got lost in the backstory that would have made for both a longer book as well as a stronger connection to the characters.
However, that being said, this is a 3.5 star read that I’m rounding up to four stars - it’s fun, it’s unique, and despite the fact that I’m reviewing this three years after it was released, I am hoping that Ms. Lowell will revisit this pack and add to the fun that was Bite Me Tender!
ARC provided by author in exchange for an honest review. Reviewed by Cat from Alpha Book Club
Levi, a badass alpha-type werewolf, has been trying for a year to change his quarter-witch boyfriend, Glyn. (Done through sex. Yes please.) The problem the pack needs more new werewolves, like yesterday. There’s a new baddie in town, and Levi might have to choose between the possessive Glyn and the future of his pack.
As anyone who has beta read or critiqued before, you know sometimes when you get into the editor mindset it’s hard to enjoy the actual story. Bite Me Tender had the opposite problem. I kept falling into the words, into the story, and the unique premise.
First of all, the sex is smokin’ hot. Like, I was reading this during my lunch break in the cafeteria (being the excellent employee that I am) and I could feel myself blushing. And I’ve read sexy stuff since I was knee-high to a grasshopper, so that’s saying something. I was looking around to make sure no other coworkers noticed and everything. (They probably did.)
Anyway, back to the book: The world-building is super interesting. The take on how the characters ‘grow’ werewolves in each other through sex is not only unique but an excellent way to introduce a lot of hot hot hot scenes (see above paragraph).
What really makes me give mad respect to this book is how the author put BOTH characters in between a rock and a hard place. These characters have legitimately tough decisions to make between who they are, their relationship, and the future of the pack. There are no easy solutions.
I’d love to see more of this universe. Either a prequel to how Glyn and Levi met, or a sequel with what they’re doing after the book. I don’t care. Give me more and give it to me soon.
What happens when you take a werewolf and a witch and put them together? You get an amazing read that's for sure! This book had the drama that I was looking for; the paranormal aspect that I enjoy; and of course the off the walls HAWT sex that takes place in the book.
Right off the bat when it comes to writing this review, my one big complaint that I have is that I felt confused during the reading at quite a few parts. I am unsure if there is a book before this that explains what had happened between Levi and Glyn before this story starts. If there is a book before this one, I would enjoy reading it. If there isn't one, then I personally think there should be.
But back to this story, taking the complaint I mentioned earlier out of the equation, I think that this book was a really good one. There was enough drama, the politics of the werewolf life, that was taking place throughout the whole book that was done in the right amounts it didn't overtake the whole book. Levi's character was one had a hard past, you could tell that from the hints we were given about it. You could also tell the care and compassion that he had for his packmates, along with the love he has for Glyn.
Glyn's character was confusing to me at times, I still don't understand the OCD things. The fact that he is a quarter witch had a large part in the way he is today. I did enjoy his grandmother though, she was a great comic relief that was able to calm down a stressful scene. But not only that, she shows the lengths she will go to to keep her family safe.
Overall, I did enjoy reading this book and I will see if there is more to come from the author in the future!
Ms Lowell dealt beautifully with one of my all-time favourite love-hate shifters in Bite me Tender: Mr Werewolf (Levi).
On to the main pairing. It's a strange mix, werewolf and witch, one where you step back, prepared to watch the usual dynamics play out: alpha wolf with a fall-into-line witch who just likes it a little more wilder than most, and who also just happens to have a few tricks up his sleeve. But this witch (Glyn) comes with a dangerously possessive side, one who knows how to confuse a wolf and leave him chasing his tail, and also lose the instinct to bite a lover.
Glyn is a little more complicated than Levi, dealing not only with fitting into the pack, which he doesn't; fitting into his own heritage of being a witch, which he doesn't; but also living with a wolf who has to sleep with men for his pack's survival, which, since Glyn arrived on the scene, Levi hasn't done either. And to top it all, Levi has OCD -- not good when you're sleeping and living with the wild.
Levi is far more straight forward: want it, sort it, get it, which leads him into a lot of trouble when he can't get what he wants from Glyn.
There were characters in this that made me growl, and for good reason, and Ms Lowell's command of language overall carried me through some very loving and raunchy scenes. I would have loved to have seen more of Levi through his past, really got to know his darker side (let him show his teeth more), but for a debut, this was a good little surprise.
I'm not usually a shifter girl (I know, I know, I'm the only one--freakin' nonconformist), but I really enjoyed this. I do like witches, and the combo of shifter/witch was fun. I'm looking forward to seeing what direction the next book takes. Kate Lowell has a unique writing voice and is a total pleasure to read.
3.6 stars. An interesting shifter story with a witchy spin, a universe and characters that I would have liked to see developed at more length. As it stands, this was a tasty but quite brief bite...
