I have to admit I watched the anime first but when I saw this manga in the store (they had volume 1, 2 and 3) I couldn’t resist it and after reading it I have to say it is so good and the illustrations are amazing I wish I could draw like that. Also the story is amazing of course it’s a very interesting situation and I like how they keep getting closer to each other. I will have to buy the next volumes next time I go out to the store.

4.5 Stars. A really fun beginning to a story I hope to continue. Right off the bat it's simple good natured and funny. Well it does fall into some tropes they are easily moved past or done in very unique ways. When it comes to stories like these some of my favorite chapters tend to be the inevitable character getting sick but starting off a story with it was a very unique and intriguing beginning. Overall very entertaining.

So far, so cute.
The meeting of the two starts with an act of kindness. And follows a bunch of awkward interactions and a paying back of the kindness she receives.
From the illustrated version, I thought Amane was the main character but from the light text provided, it was more Mahiru’s perspective.

They go to the same school, aren’t part of the same social circle. Does she have a troubled home life? He lives alone. Is that common? I wonder how this will play out.

So ik there's a spin-off manga, a oneshot, and the light novels but I just finished watching the anime first which is why I'm now diving into the manga now.

Ngl, I was curious on how the manga will be since it's still on-going. Anyways, I like the minor attention-to-detail differences of how it is in the manga vs in the anime & I actually enjoy their character designs a bit more in the manga too.

If you are a fan of the light novels owning/reading the manga is worth it for at one least this reason:

The bonus chapters included in the back of the manga are a short 2-5 page chapter about a key event from Mahiru's perspective. If you enjoyed the perspective switches in the 5.5 volume of the light novels then you will love those bonus chapters.

I really liked this first volume!
It's so original and interesting, I liked the characters and the mystery around the MFC, also I always love when a manga is centred around food, it always looks so good!

this story is quite simple, but in a good way, and the dynamic between the 2 mcs is really charming.

High schooler Amane lives alone in a small apartment and clearly has no life skills - he eats convenience store food or take out, rarely cleans his apartment, and seems perfectly fine mixing his clean and dirty laundry around his home. He also happens to live next door to Shiina, the class “Angel” who is perfect — she’s beautiful, poised, and put together. The two are in completely different leagues, and Amane wouldn’t dare to approach her even if they are neighbors. When he sees her sitting on a swing in the rain one day, he can’t help but intervene, causing an odd-couple friendship that brings Shiina into his messy life in the form of dinner leftovers, apartment cleaning, and inspiration to get his act together.

Cultural context: Long time readers of manga won’t be shocked by the storyline that high schoolers are living on their own at the age of 15, but new readers might have a bit of culture shock to see Amane and Shiina responsible for an entire apartment, shopping, and laundry by themselves without parental supervision.

This started as a fun tet-a-tet between the two of them, but quickly became a reinforcement of gender stereotypes. Amane is helpless to do cooking or cleaning without Shiina, and her offer to clean his apartment for him felt a bit like Amane tricking her into it with his learned helplessness. Here’s to hoping he has absorbed some of what she taught him while organizing and he can keep his apartment clean without having to have her come over. At this point, I can see why Amane would have feelings for Shiina, but I don’t see why Shiina would reciprocate other than Amane is the only guy who can have a conversation with her without falling madly in love at first sight.

Square Enix rates this for Teen, and this book would be fine for most middle and high school libraries. However, given the one-sided nature of the romance there are better school life stories that would be better to include in collections that don't encourage half the population to continue to rely on the other half for their meals and laundry services.
