Count down the colorful frogs sitting on a log, five to zero, in this interactive board book based on the beloved children’s song. A QR code links to both instrumental and vocal versions of the song. Simply scan the code to listen and sing along— Ribbit! Ribbit! Ribbit!

FIVE LITTLE SPECKLED FROGS is a push-pull-slide board book of a countdown song. Each page features something children can do to interact with the book, such as turning a wheel or a pull-out extension. A QR code on the back provides a link to the song in case caregivers would like to sing it or have it ready for independent listening.
What I loved: This is a very colorful and sturdy board book. The interactive elements add something special to the book with different things for little ones to try out on each spread. The pages are very thick, which helps it to stand up rough readers. The font on each page is large and bold, so it is easy to read, and the QR code provides a nice recording of the song.
What left me wanting more: Some of the elements were tough to do, such as the wheel, which is very tiny and hard to get the edges of, without holding the page open (so tough for little ones to do by themselves). Each page has a lot of words, since it has a 2.5 minute song in only 4 page spreads. While the words are a bit repetitive, it makes the pages turn very slowly. This might be one that works with older toddlers and young preschoolers better than the littlest readers.
Final verdict: FIVE SPECKLED FROGS is an overall cute and interactive board book that young readers can enjoy playing with and singing.
Please note that I received an ARC. All opinions are my own.
A rhyming interactive board book about the counting song Five Little Speckled Frogs. With soft illustrations and sliders, tabs, and a wheel that show the frogs leaving one by one, this is an appealing version of the classic song that will be fun to share.
I wasn't familiar with this song until I picked up this book. I really like it! The book is great, too. I think the variety of interactive elements makes this book really unique. I wish there had been an interactive element for three frogs to two frogs. That's the only page that doesn't have one!
*I received this book as a DRC. Short, simple, and cute! I enjoyed reading this book, and I know that kids would love it! The illustrations are colorful, and the story is fun to read!
