Recipes, games, costumes, party ideas, and decorations, along with excerpts from vintage periodicals, show the gaiety that epitomized historic Halloween celebrations.
An excellent account of the Golden Age of Halloween. It really opened my eyes to the wider, more charming aspect of the holiday as it used to be celebrated, rather than as it is celebrated now. I had read about Halloween's origins, of course, and I'm living its present, but I hadn't heard or known much about its Golden Age (from the late 1900s up to World War I) and how it was celebrated then.
Really great book, highly recommended. I don't want to return it to the library! :)
Another solid book of Halloween celebrations past, this one focusing on parties, you'll find everything from invitations to table decor, food and serving ideas, games, divinations, decorations, party favours and planning children's parties. It's as thorough and delightful as the author's romantic Halloween volume, just not quite as exciting, but still fantastic.
This is an awesome book, especially if you love Halloween. It is so interesting to see the pictures and read the poems, directions, etc from days of Halloween past. I loved it!
