A literary biography of the life of Walter Tevis; author of the Queen's Gambit, The Hustler, The Man Who Fell to Earth and The Color of Money among others.
Fans of the Netflix series The Queen’s Gambit or the films The Man Who Fell to Earth and The Hustler will find a wealth of information about the author of the books that inspired these shows in this book by Kasey Kowers. His conversational style of delivery, adding anecdotes and connections within the narrative, makes for a more interesting read than if he had just presented information about Tevis in a strictly chronological way. I was unfamiliar with Walter Tevis before I read this book, but enjoyed learning about him.
This book did a good job of getting me interested in Walter Tevis, and I intend to read one of his novels. But Kowars’ book needs editing. It reads like a series of articles strung together to make a book. This leads to a fair amount of redundancy.
