Possessive Love

My Demon Husband

Rate this book
He was supposed to summon a familiar, not a husband!

After numerous failed attempts to summon a familiar necessary to guide his considerable magic, Toby was down to his very last try. They would never accept him as a full-fledged member of his birth coven without a familiar. He didn’t know which punishment was worse; exile or binding his powers forever. Everything was against him, including his abnormally powerful magic and an enemy hiding in plain sight. When the spell takes a dramatic turn, poor Toby is unprepared for the consequences.

Zephyrin is desperate to no longer be the screw up of the family. His parents have had enough on their plate dealing with a family curse. Even knowing that he could be lost to them forever, Zephyrin answers the surprising call for his summoning. After meeting his summoner, Toby, he's positive that he is destined to be by his side as his husband. Maybe having a witch in his corner could break the curse, that is, if Toby lets him visit home.

Unfortunately, Toby has troubles of his own. Can they work together to find a solution to both their problems before the Witch Council tears them apart?

His Demon Husband is a standalone paranormal romance between an overpowered witch and a demon with control issues in the multi-author Possessive Love series.

Started okay became mediocre quickly. Skimmed the epilogue because I wasn’t that much interested.

It was insta-love, their fears were the same throughout the book. They solved an issue and had the same issue 5 minutes later. The potential poly thing 🙄 urg. Both said they wanted to be monogamous. Suddenly zeph fears Toby wants to have another husband. What?

And the end. Call it a quirk of mine but I absolutely hate it when characters are moving. Especially when they are moving to a location with less technology or something.

2.5 stars rounded up.

First book in this series was the best so far.

This book had me in its claws from the getgo and did not let go til the last page, and let's be honest, I need more from Jax and these characters.
Zeph & Toby have always been outsiders from their respective communities because of the lack of control of their powers, but once tied together, all that changes and the magic begins. So much happens along the way, pulling you deeper and deeper, and can happily say these men and their families now own me. Let's just day good ridden to Toby's old Coven and their backwards ways of not wanting to know more of their past to lead to a better future.
If the rest of this combined universe is as good as this, we are in for an amazing combined universe.

Year after year Toby failed to summon a familiar. From misspelling to downright set fire instead of summoning, his magic is out of control.
In another dimension Zephyrin isn’t any better., he can’t control his magic in the right way.

When at his last try to summon or else he would leave his coven, Toby finally succeeded.
Only, it wasn’t what he or any of his coven expected, he summoned a cute demon, who said they were to be husbands.

“I don’t like the thought of you being apart from me.”

There’s an instant connection, a feel-good bond. They are empathic, possessive, and protective of each other. It’s kind of sweet to watch.
Being together makes them stronger and more stable, they complement each other.

It seems there is a sabotage.
They try to get to the truth, and that’s a journey!

Bonding, covens, coups, curses, spells, wards, charms, betrayal, shifters, vampires, witches, demons, half-demons, angels, fantasy brought in all forms and all wonderfully written.
We get answers as to why magic got out of control. It took me time to get into the story, I’m bad with names, new environments, and too many characters (with books and RL lol). But when I felt more comfortable it was a blast.
The author created a varied story, with magic, action, sexiness, lovable characters, chemistry, and a good plot.

I really liked that this story focused on two people - one witch, one demon - who didn’t ever feel good enough. No matter how much they tried they were always kind of cast aside for being different. In reality they were both so much more. Because no one could understand what they were able to offer they were made to feel less than. Honestly, that’s pretty much how the world works with anyone or anything. If you’re different in any capacity, it doesn’t matter what you’re capable of, as much as it’s what can we do to just forget about you.
So this was lovely because they’re both stuck in this feeling of not ever quite feeling at home or like they belong. They’re missing a piece that makes them feel in control of themselves. Mostly with their own magic and powers.
One day that shifts drastically when Toby (the witch) and Zephyrin (the demon) are bonded in a summoning gone a little awry. They immediately feel safe with each other. Although there is still that little niggling of doubt on can I or will I be enough for this person (hello past trauma voices), they have an instinct to trust one another and know that they can be for each other what no one else believed they could accomplish. They work together to show not only others but most importantly - themselves - that they can handle anything that comes their way.

They definitely have obstacles to defeat along the way, but with each other and people they later find that accept them for who they are - they’re able to accomplish all. They get to have a very much deserved happy ending.

A really fun and emotional story!
Toby has never quite fit it in his coven. His magic is strong but unpredictable, and after several attempts to find his familiar, he’s on his last shot. After some very dangerous attempts, Tony takes every precaution to make sure this goes right, and finally he succeeds. But his familiar is not what he expected.
Zephyrin is a demon prince, but he’s never felt like the rest of his family. He can’t control his magic, and he longs for just one person to love. When he feels a pull from another world, he’s scared but excited. Then he sees the witch who’s summoned him, and he’s stunning, and Zeph is all in.
Immediately after their bonding, everything goes awry. There’s talks of sabotage, betrayal, and usurping the coven. Toby and Zeph know things aren’t safe, but they need a way to fix it and protect Toby’s family. There’s also a threat to Zeph’s family in the demon realm, and the odds are against these two. As their bond and magic grows stronger together, maybe these two have a fighting chance.

This is my second book by this author and I have liked both of them. The author has created a good fantasy world with Shifters, Witches, Demons & other paranormal creatures. But having said that I just wanted more of the two MC's and their relationship. There were 2 different plot lines and it seemed lie we moved from one conflict to the next and only really got closure on one. I also did not like that it was left open that the couple could someday be poly. I have no issues with reading about poly relationships, but this was not a romance about that and though the couple are monogamous and I understand that demons usually are poly, I just did not like that Toby didn't rule out a Poly relationship (at least in the future) when Zeph (a demon) wasn't up for one. Just left me with a bad feeling.

All in all this was a good solid read with great characters. I actually want to learn more about the side characters in this one. But I am not sure if we will ever get one.

Really loved Zeph and Toby together. Toby so deserved a good mate following the issues he had trying to summon a familiar for so long.
I am hoping that we might hear more about these characters as the demon word and the new coven has a lot more to explore.

My Demon Husband is a sweet, hopeful, loving story between Toby and Zephyrin. I loved the demons, their world, and the misfit coven in the book. The book was well-written, and the story kept me engaged until the end. Overall a very good read. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

4.5 stars!

Zeph and Toby were just so sweet together and a perfect match. Toby has been through a lot, especially with all of the failures at summing a familiar. They both suffer from problems with their magic and were on the outside in their families, Zeph family loved him, but he always felt less than. They have a lot of problems to face, with all the problems with Toby's coven and the curse on Zeph's family. They just worked together so well and brought out the best in each other. The love they have for each other is beautiful and I need me a demon!

So, I actually wanted to be kind and give it 3* but after a few hours contemplation during work I just cannot. The poly thing just makes me so mad.

I liked the general premise of the book but the execution wasn't quite what I expected. It started of very promising but as soon as the summoning was complete it felt like a different book somehow.

Zephyrin especially didn't feel like the same person/demon. Who is he really? A juvenile still dependent on his family even though older in years? A warrior who nobody trusts to accomplish anything complex because of his magic? An outsider for the same reaseon or a socialite (he mentioned not hurting for lovers in the past)? Why did he have to leave his brothers wedding, couldn't he have just NOT used his magic for a few hours? After the summoning he didn't act or present himself as a warrior at all even though the author told us he was. It was all just weird.

Another weird thing was the strange discussions about being poly or not. Every time they started a conversation concerning this they went on to discuss some other topic instead without returning to the question at hand. Both of them said that they didn't want anyone else in their relationship. Zeph even thought during his brothers wedding that he would love to just have one person for himself, one in a one-on-one relationship.

It made me wish for someone of my own. Females were pretty, but I was happy just to have one person, preferably a male, that could look beyond my magic and control problems to see the demon underneath. One that valued family and loyalty above anything else.

Still they kept bringing it up and every time I cringed, because what?, this was not what I want to read, this was NOT what I signed up for. Also, when they initially bonded, Zeph even thought that he hoped Toby wouldn't want to go look for his mate, if he had one other than him, as their bond wouldn't allow for anyone else. So the discussions all seem like a tool to rile the reader and create drama that was completely unnecessary. What made me mad the most was that both could feel the others emotions and Zeph got territorial and jealous every time another flirted with Toby. And what was Toby's reaction you might ask??? Keep in mind he FELT that Zeph was NOT into it and they even SAID to one another that they only needed one another.

Right at the beginning of their relationship:
He met Zeph's eyes. "Cool contacts, man. You looking for a third?"
Zeph stood rigid, his face carefully blank. It was a relief that he kept his growl to a quiet rumble. I felt his agitation, his need to keep me to himself down the bond. I didn't know what the guy's deal was, so I kept it polite. "Hey, tempting-" Zeph's hand squeezed and his growl got louder. "But no thanks. My husband and I are on our honeymoon."

At the end of the book:
Nerioyrin followed us out into the hall. "Hey Zeph, your husband is pretty cute. Great witch, too. Is he looking for a second husband?"
A growl left me. "Nerio, back off!" I tucked Toby closer to me. He turned his head on my shoulder to look at my brother. I felt his curiosity, and it made my jealousy spike. We had already decided we were it for each other. Was Toby changing his mind?
Nerio held up his hands. "Hey, cutie," he directed at Toby. He saw my temper flaring and grinned. "I'm just asking, okay?"
"No, thanks," Toby stated flatly. "Zephyrin is all I need. Maybe ask in a decade or two. Just don't hold your breath that I'll change my mind, okay?"

What an asshole! Ask in a decade or two, you know what that implies. Ask then, maybe I'm tired by then of just f*** your brother and could use some fresh meat. How very comforting for a relationship. Wow, I would feel so loved and secure in my partner. The knowledge that any day now he could come up to me and say, you are not enough anymore. And that is exactly the difference between people you actively CHOOSE polyamory and those who DO NOT. There are a LOT of people out there who might like the "idea" of it but the reality makes them scream and cry. A relationship between a poly and a monogamous person will never work long-term. If a poly person wants to open up that relationship the monogamous partner will ALWAYS suffer and their love for that partner will ALWAYS suffer too. I am confident enough to state that. There is proof of that fact everywhere.
Back to the MC's. So the quotes from the book and Toby's behavior make me fear/sad for Zeph. Especially as Zeph stated right from the beginning of the book that his job was to be there for Toby, that he was "owned" by him. So what if Toby wants a third? Will Zeph relent just because? Just no.

In general the characters felt so in flux/incomplete and not who they were supposed to be. Maybe that lead to them flipping about like humming birds, never sticking with a plan or a decision. Stay or go/go or stay/mono or poly/confident or not/ verse or not / in love or just falling / dominant but not quite / and so on and so on an so on.

The characters and conversations also felt very juvenile a lot of the time. I can see them being playful times but when a coven leader starts to giggle at property damage I draw the line, even if it was done as some sort of revenge (if it was justified or not is in question at the time the did it). If I had bought that house and found it destroyed you could bet your a** my lawyer would be knocking on your door and the money would be right back in my account.

I read this one awhile ago but I'm going back and trying to write reviews for most of this Possessive Love series.

This one was the first in the series from an author I had already read. I like Jax Stuart's work and I ended up liking this book as much as I expected to.

The take on demons was unique and refreshing and I always enjoy a witch x demon romance.

Somewhat insta-love short story. There were some inconsistencies that really kept me from getting into the story. I also really bothered me that the whole poly issue kept coming up after it was said numerous times they wanted to be in a monogamous marriage.

terrific characters, great storyline

Rating: 4🌈

Possessive Love is a 15 multi-author book series about demons in love. I love to explore a collection like this because of the opportunities to find a new author like Jax Stuart who wrote the wonderful My Demon Husband in this group.

Stuart begins by drawing us into the life of witch Toby and the small magical town he’s growing up in. It’s not a happy life. Year after year, Toby is unable to summon a familiar on his birthday, his magic not working properly.

The manner in which Stuart cuts away from year to year, allowing the reader a window into the pain and frustration that’s been felt throughout Toby’s adolescence is remarkable. He’s become a real person to us and his suffering is now something we can connect with.

For Prince Zephyrin, the same can be said. The glimpses the author gives the reader into his life offers up much more insight into his own personal issues as well as his own family’s sufferings.

Two beings are about to be connected in the most unexpected way. This element of Stuart’s narrative is such a powerful and compelling one. It’s a part of the overall mystery. How both are connected becomes a strength of the relationship and, imo, one of the book. Because it prompts one necessary discussion about consent, status, sexuality, equality , and dominance. All of these things could have been ignored or avoided in a lesser story.

The romance between Toby and Zeph really comes together as they fight for their bond and right to stay as a magical couple as they define it. It just feels so believable and engaging to read as they grow into their dynamic. I just love them.

The mystery behind Toby’s failures is not as well developed as most of the other storylines, and it has just as many questions left unanswered at the end of the novel.

The author fills up this book with so much detail and depth in the world building that it calls out for additional novels. The covens that appeared later on with their own fascinating characters, Zephyrin’s Mother’s “queendom” and his family, and even the questions left behind as to what will happen to that village of Toby’s, it all seems to cry out for more storylines!

My Demon Husband: An MM Paranormal Romance by Jax Stuart is highly entertaining and well written. I throughly enjoyed the characters and the world built around them. I hope Stuart will revisit them someday to catch up on the loose ends and how this couple is faring.

This is a definite recommendation and for the rest in the collection, check out the list below.

I haven't really ventured into the monster/demon category before. I wasn't sure what to expect but I really enjoyed this story and am a bit sad that is a standalone. I would love to see more of this world, especially Oscar's story!

Both Toby and Zephyrin have had a rough time at home. When Zephyrin is mistakenly summoned as Toby's familiar, they both realize the other could be the solution to their problems. But their relationship went much deeper than that. Zephyrin immediately claimed they were husbands, and feelings developed pretty quickly between the two. I loved how possessive these two were, especially since Zephyrin comes from a world where almost everyone is poly. They were committed to keeping each other safe and happy from the start and their bond only grew the longer they knew each other.

I liked that the romance wasn't the main plot of the story. There was plenty of steam and we got to watch the relationship grow, which was enough for the romance reader in me to be totally satisfied, but I think the story needed the other plots as well. They helped to push Toby and Zephryin together and really helped form their future. I wish we would have gotten a bit more about the Oscar/Avery issue (although the Afterword made me hopefully we will be seeing more of them in the future!).

I wish we would have gotten a bit more background/worldbuilding, especially when it came to Toby and Zephryin's magic and Toby's need for a familiar. There was enough there to understand the story, but I would have liked a little more context in a couple places.

It was really hard for me to put this down to get some sleep. It had my attention from the start and I really enjoyed these characters and this world. I know this was written as a standalone for a multi author series, but I would to see Stuart expand this into a series

I received an ARC of this book from the author and this is my honest review.

Toby and Zephyrin's romance has a sweet nature to it, when it's just the two of them, as well as becoming very heated, but there is a lot more drama when it includes the rest of Toby's coven and what is happening back in Zeph's home dimension with his mother and unborn sister.
Toby has failed at summoning a familiar on his birthday for the past few years and he expects this to be no different except for the more extreme pressure as this is the last year he can try. However, what unfolds it the most unexpected and dramatic event but he can't find himself regretting summoning Zeph, regardless of the circumstances or how they may have unfolded. Zeph is so happy to be in the presence of his new husband. Being dragged away from his family wasn't the greatest but he has high hopes for his mate. What he didn't expect was how they have been treating Toby and the fallout of his summoning. They must work together to strengthen this new bond they have and uncover what is going on with Toby's coven before more lives are destroyed.
There are some truly horrible people in Toby's coven and I hope they get what's coming to them in the end but what they have given Toby, I'm sure he wouldn't change for the world. Love and acceptance for just the way he is as well as bringing stability to his magic has Toby falling for his little demon husband in no time. The same can be said for Zeph, though probably even quicker as he has his demon senses helping him. He's also hoping to get some help back home but priorities have them saving themselves and Toby's family before anything else. We also meet a great group of ragtag supes who have banded together, I'm hoping they get their own series in the future as they are some great characters and it would be good to come back to this world to catch up with Toby and Zeph.
A really great read that gives me high hopes for the rest of the series. There are several moments of levity, many heated ones but also a fair few to cause hurt to one or both MC's. They provide each other with a great deal of support, friendship and eventual love.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

I must start off this review with saying that Zephyrin is fucking precious and I will hurt anyone who says otherwise. OK now that that's settled I can begin my review. Poor Toby. Someone is working against him and it may be someone who is closer than he thinks. Year after year he attempts to summon his familiar without success. No one can have that bad of luck, especially a powerful witch like Toby. When it comes to his last attempt before probable exile at best it turns out that Toby finally succeeds...except his familiar is definitely not what or rather who he expects.

Zephyrin is a demon who adores his family regardless if he's known as the family screw up. When he's randomly summoned he decides to answer the call of fate and go. I'm certain he had no idea the drama his summoning was about to ensue. The first meeting between Zeph and Toby was not all hearts and rainbows. It was actually rather traumatic if I think about it. However, it didn't take long for Toby to realize what a gift he had in summoning Zeph as his familiar. These two were just so adorable. I loved how Toby made sure that Zeph wanted him for him and not due to some sense of duty. Toby respected him as an equal. It was more than Zeph could have hoped for and he was already smitten just from the sight of Toby.

As this is a novella the plot was pretty fast paced as was the romance. It was also super sweet. I loved how protective Zeph and Toby were of each other. They proved that they were each other's top priority and I don't think either of them could have found a better match for a surprise husband.

Angst and more angst

Not quite a great story, heavy on the angst and with a habit of doing complete one-eighties after taking the time to establish something.

Toby is essentially a magical failure as he can't summon a familiar, so his magic is haywire and useless. His coven is about ready to kick him out, but he has to make his last summoning attempt first. This has him accidentally summon a demon as a familiar, which actually works well but makes his coven trust him even less. Zeph really does try hard down in hell but he has poor control of his magic and can't seem to fit in. When he finds out he is being summoned he goes to follow his heart, even as though that journey could be fraught with heart ache.

It is clear from the start that things will be angsty, and they rather stay that way. Toby has a miserable life, with his parents practically disowning him and his coven hating him, and there is no improvement with the demon summoning. Zeph sees this and just wants Toby safe and happy, but that takes an odd course. First they fiercely fight to stay in the coven, then they flee and fight to make a new home, just to turn around determined that they will never truly be happy if they don't go back to the coven where they were miserable, just to turn around wanting to burn it to the ground. Then suddenly we get into going to hell and making a home there or on Earth.....it is all just constant flip turn decisions and all the angst about them. It was truly annoying to read this anxious flipping about and it made for a jerky read and an overall lackluster book.

The ending saved it

From the start the power imbalance with this couple bothered me. Yes the author tried very hard to explain that although Toby could technically control Zeph, he could only do it if he *really* wanted to. It was a very tidy, plot safe way of making the power imbalance less icky, though it was completely dependent on Toby being a good person. Along with that, Zeph was exceedingly accommodating while Toby occasionally got mad at him randomly (like Zeph revealing he needed Toby to help break his family’s curse and Toby threw a fit because Zeph was “using” him… as if Zeph wasn’t quite literally bound in servitude to him…). There were also multiple times where Toby said he had to prove to everyone that he had Zeph under control…

So again, lots of ick with the power imbalance. What saved the story was the ending. *minor spoiler warning * they ended up deciding to spend most their time living in Zeph’s world. I was super relieved at this decision because it felt like it finally equalized things and didn’t fall into the pit of a character being ripped away from their world but being totally okay with it because the power of love. Zeph internally thought about how much he wanted to live with his family but would have stayed in the human world just for Toby’s sake, and I’m glad that didn’t happen because Zeph is far too accommodating when it comes to doing whatever Toby wants. And to be fair Toby didn’t take advantage of Zeph in any significant ways, but the power imbalance in general was just a no even with Zeph claiming to like being bound to Toby.

I really enjoyed this sweet story of Zephyrin and Toby from Jax Stuart. This book is part of the Possessive Love series and I’m looking forward to reading more from this multi-author paranormal series.

Zeph’s character was the perfect combo of sweet, caring, protective and possessive of Toby. Hearing everything that Toby has been through and seeing how his coven and its members have treated him - he wants nothing more than to protect Toby. I enjoyed that they are both oddballs of sorts with their magic before they are bonded and that being together truly makes them stronger.

Although Toby has his sister and brother in law who were extremely supportive of him and always tried to help him out, he faces a lot of problems from the other members of his current coven and I was so glad that he found Justice’s coven. It felt like there were lots of great characters there as well as from Zeph’s family. They definitely added to the story gave Toby more of an extended family and support that he needed.

Well deserved HEA for these two characters and I hope it isn’t the last time we see these characters from this author. I would love to see some of these side characters get their own story and maybe get things right. I read a complimentary copy of this book and this is my honest and fair review.

Witch Toby after many years of failure was on his last chance to summon himself a familiar to guide his formidable magic to gain acceptance into his coven before he would either have to face exile or have his magic bound. When the spell takes a dramatic turn he is unprepared for the consequences. Demon Zephyrin is the screw-up of the family plus his parents have a family curse to deal with so he answers a call for his summoning from Toby whom he is positive is destined to be by his side as his husband and he hopes to help break the curse if they can visit his home. Unfortunately, Toby has troubles of his own. Can they work together to find a solution to both their problems before the Witch Council tears them apart?

I enjoyed this story with the bigger part about the situation in Toby's coven but also the curse against Zeph's mother. There was a lot of intrigue, betrayals and danger in this story as well as some new friends and allies. I loved the way that Toby and Zeph accepted each other after the initial shock and were determined to protect each other (especially initially when Zeph stayed awake guarding Toby). Easy to read, feel and understand. This is an MM story with mature content.

Cute story with a sweet HEA

Zeph and Toby were super sweet. They’d both struggled with their magic so seeing them finally able to have confidence in themselves was lovely. The secondary characters were fun and incredibly supportive, exactly what you want for a made family. The overarching plot was interesting though I would have enjoyed some more world building around how covens came to be and other paranormals. It seemed like the coven was very insular but it wasn’t always clear especially given at least some of those in the coven were aware of demons and their connection to magic. I do think that this sometimes struggled compared to Jax’s other books. There were some plot points that felt very much like they operated to manufacture a connection/relationship but not much else (of course plot points will always do that but usually they feel less obvious) and occasionally the writing seemed a little less fluid than normal. That’s not to say it wasn’t enjoyable - it was, it just didn’t quite meet the standard I’m used to with Jax’s books. I still enjoyed it and had fun seeing Toby and Zeph fight their way to a HEA.

My Demon Husband

Jax Stuart did an amazing job of weaving this Paranormal romance together. It had some erotica but not overly filled. To me what sells this is the story itself. The main characters, Toby and Zeph really make the story with their love and the way they share their magic.
I loved how Zeph wasn't afraid to leave his family as he got pulled to another dimension. He was happy when he arrived. One thing that really blew me away about their connection was that as they tried to separate them they both passed out. The other very interesting concept was their first connection when they had sex for the first time. Magic moved all around them but it was both their eye color.
That is what made me wonder when Justice said there was Demon in Toby, that scene would totally make sense. They both have the same bright blue eye color?
I want there to be a second volume to see how they are but to pick up on Justice or on Nerio or on Zera as she grows and takes Demon men into her queendom. Focus on a new set of characters. But I blew threw this book and I honestly don't want to say goodbye to these characters.

Absolute MUST READ!

I love all things paranormal and magic. This book was full to the brim with both of those themes! Toby is a witch who's magic always seems to go haywire. It doesn't work or listen to him as it's supposed to. He has one more chance to get this spell right or else. Upon him attempting the spell once more, instead of him summoning a familiar he ends up summoning a... Husband?

Zeph and Toby are such a cute couple! I really like this story, it's was funny yet still had serious moments. It had action scenes along with a budding romance between a witch and a demon prince. I thought this book was well written and had terrific characters! I really hope Jax writes more books that takes place in this world cause I don't want to leave it yet. I feel like there is so much more to discover and learn! I liked how Jax wrote about the curse that has played Zeph's family for decades. I do wonder about Oscar's character, I haven't decided if he's a bad guy or just someone who got taken advantage of.

Overall a really great book to read!

This was such a lovely, sweet romance. Two misfits - one witch, one demon - that can’t get control of their magic, completely drawn to each other by a spell gone wrong … or right?!

It was instant connection, fated mates goodness. I loved how sweet and protective Zeph was over Toby. And poor Toby who’s felt like an outsider his entire life finally had someone who could not just love him, but make him feel good enough. I truly disliked his coven and all they did to him. But his sister and brother-in-law?! Everyone could use a Tabby and August in their life!

There was a lot to keep track of for such a quick read between the scheming of Toby’s coven and the curse on Zeph’s family. But it was played out well and solidified the bond between them.

Jax indicated this may end up starting a new series and I’m onboard for that. I loved the group of shifters, vampires, witches, angel/demons that became their found family. I hope to see more of them, esp Andras. 😉

It was a lot of fun reading about Zeph and Toby! Toby's a witch who is supposed to summon a familiar and has trouble. Zeph is a demon who has trouble handling his magic and is summoned by a witch! Betcha can't which one ;) Toby and Zeph become bonded by the summoning and then flee Toby's coven. There's quite a bit going on here between the plot against Toby and the curse on Zeph's mother. Zeph's family actually takes a backseat and I kind of wish we got to see more of them. The main focus is definitely on Toby and his coven but along the way we get to meet some other quirky characters while Toby and Zeph learn more about each other. There's some sizzle right off the bat but it does seem to cool for a bit while we learn some truths about witches and demons before things get spicy again! I'd say that it's a solid 3.5/5 on the spice level for me. I enjoyed getting to know these characters and I hope we see some of these side ones (like Oscar) again!

This is my first read from this author and I’ll be reading more. I loved Toby and Zeph’s story, which felt very much like a paranormal cozy with a small town, interesting characters, great worldbuilding and trying to figure out who was behind everything.

I loved how Toby and Zeph both struggled with their magic, and were so much stronger together. Their relationship is sweet, and I loved Zeph learning about Toby’s world. The revelation bout witches and why Toby has issues is nicely done, and not what I expected.

This is very much a story about family with Toby’s rallying around, and Zeph’s family’s reaction to him. I loved Justice and her clan. They totally rocked, and I loved how inclusive they are. I like the mystery around Oscar and how that played out. I’d love for him to get his own story.

I hope the author is planning to write more in this world. It has a lot of potential!
